Cork City reps off to Madrid PROJECT Manager Niamh O’Mahony will head up a delegation of Cork City supporters that have been invited to speak about the importance of fan involvement in football at a conference in Madrid next weekend, writes NOEL SPILLANE. The invite was extended as part of the European Commission-funded ‘Improving Football Governance’ project that the City fans’ trust have been leading in Ireland since 2010. FORAS
SOCCER hosted a similar conference in Cork last November. “I am delighted to be able to attend the FASFE event in Madrid later this month. Ireland, like the rest of our European partners in this project, has many different issues which supporters can help to try and improve and resolve,” said O’Mahony. “The role of supporters in foot-
ball has never been more important across the Continent and I am looking forward to hearing a lot more about what is happening in Spain,” she added. The Irish project’s working group, assisted by supporters-run clubs, trusts and groups across the League of Ireland, is currently piecing together a handbook that aims to assist Irish football supporters at every level of the game. ● More local soccer P43-46.
