MUNSTER won’t give up hope on Simon Zebo making their starting XV for their Heineken Cup quarter-final with Harlequins at the Stoop on April 7. The wing wizard limped out of Ireland’s 12-6 RBS Six Nations loss to England yesterday at the Aviva with a broken metatarsal bone in his foot. Declan Kidney confirmed that the Munster player would require surgery today and that he would be out for up to 10 weeks, but Munster will be hoping that Zebo’s age and his previous healing speed from injury will see him back in time for the Heineken Cup clash. If not then it is likely that Keith Earls, who filled in on the wing for

GAA mourn Coughlan loss THE GAA community in Cork was united today in paying tribute to former Nemo Rangers and Cork star and chief County Board draw co-ordinator Seamus Coughlan (below) who died this weekend. As a player his contribution to Nemo and to Cork was immense and the highlight of a glittering career was being a key figure at only 20-years of age in Cork’s famous 1973 All-Ireland triumph over Galway. Billy Morgan was captain that day and both were lifelong friends on and off the field. “Seamus was just a lovely man, he did not have an enemy in the world and a person who was always in good form. “During his illness he never complained and it’s such a pity that he has been taken from us because he had so much to give.’’

Zebo was one of the growing injury list for Ireland with Jonny Sexton limping out of the action after half an hour with a hamstring injury. Seán O’Brien and Donnacha Ryan both needed x-rays last night while Brian O’Driscoll suffered a twisted ankle and Mike McCarthy a strained medial ligament in his knee. Irish coach Declan Kidney also must sweat on Cian Healy to see if he will be cited for an alleged stamping offence in yesterday’s game. ● See more rugby on P50-53.

CORK CITY make a welcome return to Setanta Cup football tonight against the oldest club on the island, Cliftonville, ZULWHV 12(/ 63,//$1( It will be City’s first competitive match of the new season and manager Tommy Dunne has promised to field his strongest available side ahead of next week’s return leg at Solitude in north Belfast. City have Johnny Dunleavy and new signing Denis Behan ruled out for this attractive opener at Turner’s Cross (7.45pm) “Cliftonville are the best team up north this year and a side we wanted to avoid to be honest. “They have been scoring goals for fun lately hitting five against Coleraine, four against Lisburn Distillery and they won through to the quarter-finals of the Irish Cup with a 2-0 win over Donegal Celtic at the weekend,” said Dunne. “I think being at home first is not a bad thing for us. If we can play well and keep the tie alive, then we will be in a good position for the second leg up at Solitude’s all-weather pitch,” he added. City beat Longford Town 6-1 in a friendly on Saturday with a Daryl Kavanagh hat-trick and further goals from Ian Turner, Denis Behan and an own goal. Cliftonville, 12 points clear at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership, won the Iru Bru League Cup final two weeks ago with a 4-0 demolition of Crusaders and they are heavily involved in the chase for four trophies this year. ● See more City soccer on P40.

Voices of Hope for Pieta House GALACONCERT

Tributes paid to former Cork and Nemo stalwart CORK GAA By JOHN HORGAN Morgan remembers him too as a great Nemo and Cork footballer. “He was a great player, a great hurler too and he was a key member of a great Nemo team that won the double back in 1970 that went on to form the backbone of our seniors for years after. “After Jimmy Barry-Murphy, he was the second youngest of our Cork team in 1973 and all I can say is that he was just a fabulous person and we will all miss him terribly.’’ Cork County Board chairman Bob Ryan offered his condolences too on the passing of someone

who he described as ‘a great Cork GAA person’ “Seamus did so much for Cork on and off the field, firstly as a great Nemo and Cork footballer and afterwards as the chief co-ordinator of the hugely successful County Board draw. “He worked very hard to make the draw the resounding success that it is today and he was a very popular guy in the offices in Páirc Uí Rinn. “On behalf of the Board I want to offer my sincere sympathy to his wife Brenda and family.’’ As a mark of respect, tomorrow night’s County Board meeting at Páirc Uí Chaoimh has been cancelled. ● For full GAA coverage of the Cork hurlers and footballers over the weekend see P46-48 inside.
