Cork won’t let loss derail Munster bid Cathal Naughton is down in the dumps after the final whistle.

CORK aren’t going to let the setback of relegation from the league derail their championship campaign. That was the message from the Rebel management team after a two-point extra-time loss to Clare yesterday in the Division 1A relegation play-off. Cork couldn’t hold on to their late lead after Pa Cronin pounced for a goal in the closing stages, and must now pick themselves up before the summer, and a
New Australian diet available for those with IBS
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common digestive disorder. Symptoms vary from person to person, such as crampy pains, bloating, nausea, and altered bowel motions such as constipation and or diarrhoea. A ‘low FODMAP’ diet, developed in Australia has been adapted for UK and Ireland. This diet is clinically effective for symptom management for those with IBS and other functional gut disorders. Coeliac Disease should be ruled out before trying this diet, ask you GP to test you. FODMAPS are types
of carbohydrates (found in bread, some fruits and certain vegetables), that are poorly digested and trigger production of gas resulting in pain, bloating, and sometimes diarrhoea in those with IBS. Reducing these foods has been proven to reduce these symptoms. Our Dietitian helps each individual to identify problematic
June semi-final date will be Rebels’ sole focus HURLING provincial semi-final against the winners of Clare and Waterford. “We have to get on with it and it’s all going to be about the 23rd of June now in the Munster championship,” said selector Kieran Kingston. “No matter who went down it was going to be disappointing but we would still say that we had a good league campaign. There was only a puck of a ball between being in a semi-final or being releg-
ated.” Cork now drop into Division 1B for 2014, where they will play Limerick, Wexford, Offaly, Antrim and Laois. It has been suggested the six-team format will be altered again because of the implication of Cork’s relegation, which would see the Leesiders and Limerick compete in a new eight-team top flight. However that remains a long shot, given the excitement generated by this year’s league. ● See P52-53 for more.

Keane claims his first World Cup podium TRIATHLON CORK’S Bryan Keane (right) claimed his first World Cup podium in Ishigaki, Japan despite crashing on the bike, while fellow Irishman Conor Murphy also hit the tarmac, but got back up to finish 14th. The podium finish was just deserts for Keane, who suffered bad luck last weekend at the Auckland World Triathlon Series where he was knocked from his bike while in a strong position. Both Keane and Murphy had good swims and came out after 1500m in 10th and 12th. Keane seized an opportunity for a breakaway on the bike with Ryan Fisher and Dan Wilson. With conditions treacherous due to the wet streets Keane came down and it looked to be another disastrous race for the Irishman. He was quick to dust himself off and was back in the chase in a matter of seconds. In the chase pack behind, Murphy also had a brush with the tarmac and suffered some nasty road rash. He too was quick to get back into the race and was still looking for a good result. Murphy had some work to do after his mishap on the bike, but was in top running form picking off athletes as he went along thanks to the fifth fastest run of the day in 32min 44secs. Thanks to improved rankings Keane and Murphy have got a start for the Yokohama leg of the World Triathlon Series on May 11. ● More page 48
