CORK City have what could be a priceless away goal to take into next Monday’s Setanta Cup semi-final return leg with Shamrock Rovers at Turner’s Cross. City had to come from behind to eke out a 1-1 draw at Tallaght Stadium in front of a 2,000 plus crowd last night. Rovers took the lead on 38 minutes with a Danny Murphy own goal but inside two minutes it was 1-1 thanks to Daryl Kavanagh’s enterprise. “It was Daryl Horgan’s ball to me and I shimmied the pass, came inside and struck it low into the far corner. “I knew once it left my boot it was gone into the net and it’s a great result for us away from home,” said Kavanagh afterwards. The Leinster coach is one of four men who will be interviewed by the committee charged with choosing the man to lead the Ireland team as far as the next World Cup in 2015. The Kiwi, who is a former New Zealand Schools coach, has spoken again about aspects of the job which are attractive and others which are not. “There are other aspects of it that would probably suit family life a little bit more than the 24/7 that I spend thinking about rugby – if not doing it and analysing it,” he told reporters yesterday at UCD. “Whoever gets the opportunity, it will be a massive challenge and an exciting one and I think anyone would be energised by that.” ● See P50 for more.
