O’Sullivan dropped the Lithuanian with a left to the body 2:17 into the third frame of the scheduled eight-rounder on the Stephen Ormond undercard at the Carlton Hotel. O’Sullivan is expecting an opponent to be announced for a WBO World title eliminator in London in June. British 2008 Olympian Billy Joe Saunders is being touted as a possibility. However, don’t rule out a WBO super-middle eliminator against a top American opponent to be named for the Loughmahon BC man this summer. ● Meanwhile, the Irish Elite team hammered their French counterparts 10-0 at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork last night. Both nations will meet against at Dublin’s National Stadium tomorrow. Rebels eye U21 glory once again U21 FOOTBALL
By MARK WOODS CORK are aiming to win their 12th All-Ireland U21 football title, when they face Galway in the final at the Limerick Gaelic Grounds this evening at 7pm. They last captured the trophy in 2009 by defeating Down by a point with a dramatic late goal, having denied Laois by the same margin in 2007. Cork have been the most consistent team in Munster, winning eight of the last 10 titles. The side is captained by full-back Damien Cahalane (Castlehaven), who is one of three players to have lined-out earlier in the national league. The others are centre-back Tom Clancy (Clonakilty) and left half-forward John O’Rourke (Carbery Rangers). Cork’s path to the final included wins over Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary in Munster and an All-Ireland semi-final victory over Cavan. Galway, who defeated Cork en route to the 2011 title, had wins over Sligo, Mayo and Roscommon in Connacht before overcoming favourites Kildare by five points in the All-Ireland semi-final. ● See P51 for more.
