Blarney geared up for Derry cup visit

CUP holders Derry City will be hoping history repeats itself in historic Blarney this afternoon (3pm). The Candystripes take on Blarney United in the second round of the Ford FAI Cup at O’Shea Park this afternoon and the last time they played here in 2006 with Stephen Kenny in charge, they went on to win the glamour trophy. Derry scored a 3-1 win over the Munster Senior League side seven years ago and today is another red letter day in Blarney’s proud history as Pat Keane and team boss Dave Moynihan are retiring at the end of the game. Club president Henry Murphy says the club will do well to break even financially as they get 65% of the gate, 35% goes north to Derry and the FAI get a seven and-a-half percent cut of the gate receipts. Blarney deserve great credit though as they have invested heavily in the playing
