Kong the Savage Logan Paul is a huge social media star and actor, he makes amazing vlogs and does some amazing yet crazy things, but one uncertain day… he cracked a plate on the floor and mistakenly hit his dog with a glass shard, everyone got worried at his home, Logan was panicking because if the word spread and someone got to know about this, he could be in serious trouble and could lose a lot of fans and followers. The house became a total chaos and finally Lydia (Logan’s assistant) came up with an idea to call up a veterinarian, so they called up a vet to take good care of Logan’s dog. Suddenly the doorbell rang. Brandon (Logan’s cameraman) thought it was the vet, so he opened up the door, but unfortunately it was a Mexican guy for pizza delivery. Logan took the pizza, “OMG, are you Logan Paul? I am your biggest fan!” exclaimed Mexican guy. Logan was very tense so he replied, “Um, yes! I am Logan…” Mexican guy noticed the dog and said, “What’s up with Kong?” Logan angrily shut the door. After some time Mexican guy texted Logan that if Logan did not give him one thousand dollars by the evening, he would expose him in front of all his fans and followers, and that he would tell them that Logan murdered his own dog. Another doorbell rang at Logan’s house; Logan shrieked as he opened the door, it was just Ayla and Logan’s dad. Ayla noticed the huge scar on Kong’s body and there was a sudden silence in the room “W-what happened to Kong?” muttered Logan’s dad. Logan replied, “I smashed a plate to start my YouTube video, but when I did it, it hit Kong, but thankfully Brandon deleted the footage.” “Logan, you are insane!” exclaimed Ayla.

Brandon came up with an idea. “Ayla, why don’t you take Logan and Kong to your home for a few days, so Logan does not have to worry about his fans and followers downstairs,” exclaimed Brandon. Logan did not want to leave his home though because his home was very big and awesome while Ayla lived in an apartment which was very small for all of them. “Not a bad idea,” said Ayla excitedly as she packed her and Logan’s bag. Logan had to go with Ayla because if anyone came to his home, they would see Kong, and Logan could be in BIG trouble. On the way to Ayla’s home - in his McLaren, he found a lot of his fans, so he put Kong in his backpack and drove as fast as he could to Ayla’s home. They finally reached and got a breath after the long adventure. Logan took out Kong from his backpack. Kong’s heartbeat was getting slower and slower. Logan could see the big scar on Kong’s body. When they got inside Ayla’s apartment, Logan got a phone call which was from the hospital. Luckily, after Logan and Ayla left, Brandon and Evan rushed to the hospital to tell them what had happened. Logan quickly rushed down the building at the speed of light without Ayla. He ran to his McLaren and drove all the way to the hospital. “Hang on buddy; stay with me,” cried Logan as a tear from his eye went with the flow of the wind. Logan parked in the emergency lane. The nurses were already out, so they took Kong immediately to the emergency ward. Logan received another call. Unluckily, it was from the wicked Mexican guy. Mexican guy told Logan that this was his last chance to pay him the amount. Logan replied to him fiercely, “I do not care anymore. Kong is alright; tell my fans if you want, they won’t believe you.” Mexican guy hung up on Logan. The nurses came to Logan and told him that Kong was alright. Logan cried out tears of joy as he realized that he should not be doing crazy stuff for more views.

Moving out Clair stood still. She allowed herself to weep tears – they were tears of anger. She was looking at her photos of when she was young. She heard a knock. It was her big sister. She wept her last tear and opened her door and went downstairs. Clair looked at her house and said her last good-bye and went in the car. “Hey sis, it won’t be that bad,” said Kate – Clair’s big sister. “I just want to go back to my old house,” said Clair. “My house is amazing! I don’t understand why dad wants us to move out”. “Well, dad told me that he wanted a change since there were only two rooms – Clair and Kate shared a room and their parents shared one room. He said he wanted to get a bigger house, so we could have more space,” said Kate. “But we have been staying in that house for at least 8 years!” said Clair. “I was 3 years old when we were in this house and now I’m 11!” said Kate. “Maybe the new house is better.” She went out of the car and miserably looked at the house. It was a grayish, old house with some broken windows. She opened the huge door and went inside. “Why is it so dark in here?” said Clair. Clair went up the broken down stairs and stopped half way. “Clair, your father, Kate and I are going outside to see the neighborhood,” said Clair’s mother. “We will be back soon, bye.” “But…” Clair’s mother slammed the huge door. Clair walked to a halfway – which looked never ending. “I’m getting tired. I will go sit in a room for a while” . Clair opened the door. “Aaaah!!” Clair saw a ghost and a room full of spiders. Clair turned pale – she looked as white as a sheet of paper. Clair screamed on top of her lungs

and ran out. “You will never leave. What was that noise?” Clair continued to walk through the dark and gloomy hallway. She heard a smashing noise. “Aaah!!” She continued to run faster. She heard a bell. She slowly tiptoed down the stairs, opened the door and saw her parents. She told them everything. They went to the police and moved out.

Just Breathe Alissa’s oxygen ran low when she reached level 4 on the Northeast Ridge. She’d been told this might happen. Her breath was labored and she was far behind the group. Maybe it was three kilometers. She sat down on a rock and unzipped her bag. Rifling through it, she was losing consciousness quickly. She slapped her cheeks. Slapping her own face wasn’t part of the training she’d had for the past three months. It was hard enough just getting to the training. She had taken four flights over two days and had missed the first two days. The layover in China took eighteen hours because of a snowstorm and she’d had to sleep in the bathroom on a mat overnight. Tom Houston, the manager, had kept the other climbers from going up because he wanted to make sure Alissa got the chance of a lifetime. Several of the climbers had gotten restless, and one of the climbers decided they’d skip going up because they had heard there was a snowstorm coming. During her training she made friends with Zack who liked to tease her about her panda backpack. The backpack had furry ears and it made everyone think Alissa was not climbing on a professional level. She’d only been climbing for two years and had already surpassed the endurance and strength of someone three times her age. She was a tough bull who didn’t take no for an answer. Not ever. Even her friends had tried to discourage her from going, but at least her parents were supportive.

Back on the Northeast ridge, Alissa’s cheeks stung with cold and desperation. Where was that other oxygen tank? She had packed and unpacked her bag seven different times to make sure that nothing was missing. Finally, on the very bottom her frigid finger made contact with the metal tank. At the top, Tom yelled, “Alissa put out your arms, you know, something. We need the youngest female climber to ever reach the top of Mount Everest to look excited.” She threw out her twelve year old arms and said, “Yeah!” AYESHA DURANI

Nightmare Don’t eat just before going to bed! My mother used to tell me. You might get a nightmare. How right she was I never believed until it happened to me. One night I felt hungry just I was about to go to bed. So I made myself a pizza with a glass of milk. After consuming them all, I went to bed. Soon I drifted off into a troubled sleep. I dreamt that I was with a group of people looking for an old women but I was not sure why we all seemed afraid of her. Somehow we had to find her. So there I was searching for her high and low for her in fright places I had never been before. Sometimes I seemed flying while other times I seemed unable to move. The whole atmosphere was on one fear like a dreadful horror in which I was a victim. After some searching I entered a darkened room and saw a figure sleeping on the bed. As I was going near and near the door suddenly got closed on its own. And also suddenly the figure threw away her blanket, got up and stared at me. It was an ugly old woman with golden shiny teeth. She raised her claw like fingers and walked towards me. I wanted to run but was unable to scream louder and louder. I found that I couldn’t. I struggled and struggled to get away from frightful woman. The next moment I gave a muffed yell and found myself painting on my bed. My goodness! What a horrible nightmare that was! I lay in my bed, not daring to close my eyes to continue the dream.

Snow Day In the winter it’s every kid’s dream, As snowflakes begin to appear, That suddenly there’ll be a blizzard, And they’ll cancel school for the year. Though most kids are willing to settle, And I am inclined to agree, They could merely close school for one day – One day off would be just fine with me. A day free from all forms of homework, A day without science or math, When you leave all your schoolbooks at home – And run out the door with a laugh. A day full of sledding and cocoa, And snowmen who wear dad’s old clothes, No writing out boring equations After lunch when you’d rather just doze. A snow day’s a day meant for lounging, Where idleness isn’t condemned, A day where you sleep in till lunchtime, A day that you don’t want to end.

And if you are truly quite lucky, The snow will continue its flight, And you’ll spend the afternoon hoping The next day will be just as white. BY AABIA AZHAR

Night of the Living Dummy By R.L Stine A book review by M.Mehdi Twin sisters, Lindy and Kris Powell, are out for a walk when they decide to check out the house next door that is under construction. Lindy finds a ventriloquist dummy in the dumpster behind the house and decides to call it Slappy. When Kris asks her why Lindy threatens to slap her. Kris and Lindy like to compete for everything, so Lindy suddenly finding great success with Slappy makes Kris jealous. It is revealed that the neighborhood children love ventriloquism. Lindy is soon being offered $20 to perform at birthday parties and Kris begins to ask her parents for a dummy of her own. Her parents propose the two girls could share Slappy. When Kris attempts to retrieve the toy from Lindy, Slappy tells her that she is a moron and then slaps her across the face. The next day, Mr. Powell brings home another ventriloquist dummy that he bought at a pawn shop. Kris names him Mr. Wood. Then she begins bragging to Lindy that her toy has better clothes than Slappy. Lindy comes back every day with more stories of how good she is at ventriloquism. Lindy also reveals that besides just telling jokes, she and Slappy have a "rap routine". A couple days later, Lindy volunteers to help Kris with her ventriloquism, as Kris has been told by the music teacher that she can perform at the school concert. While helping her, Mr. Wood turns his violent rage towards Kris again and begins calling her terrible names. Kris hops over to pull the dummy away from Lindy but Lindy insists she hasn't done anything; the toy is alive. Later that night, the sisters walk in on Mr. Wood strangling Slappy. The two girls agree to talk to their mother about the strange occurrences.

They walk in on her reading a Stephen King book. Their mother tells them to shut up about the dummies and go to bed. Later that night, Kris finds Mr. Wood in the kitchen, surrounded by a pile of food from the fridge and also her jewelry. Lindy comes down and sees Kris frozen in shock at the sight and before they can clean it all up, Mrs. Powell comes downstairs. Already grouchy since Mr. Powell is away on business in Portland, she threatens to take away both their dummies if they do not quit pretending that one of their dummies are evil. The two girls talk her out of such punishment by promising to clean everything up. Back upstairs, Lindy diabolically admits she was responsible for all of Mr. Wood's bad behavior. The next day, Kris finds a piece of paper in the Mr. Wood's pocket. She recites the strange foreign words printed on the slip of paper (Karru Marri Odonna Loma Molanu Karrano- you and I are one now) and is astonished to see the dummy blink even though her hand was nowhere near the blinking mechanism. How is that possible? That night, Mr. and Mrs. Miller stop by for a visit. The parents volunteer their children to perform for the elderly guests. Kris foolishly suggests Lindy go first and naturally Lindy kills. Kris copes and still figures this will be good practice for her appearance at the concert the next day. Before she can begin her act though, Mr. Wood begins brutally harassing the old couple. Mr. Wood asks, if Mr. Miller is growing a mustache or if he is simply eating a rat. Kris runs away crying and her parents ground her, but still allow her to perform at the concert. The following day, Mrs. Berman leads Kris up to the stage. While the overweight woman adjusts the microphone, Mr. Wood lets fly some real humdingers about her weight. Appalled that a child's dummy would have such a foul attitude, the rotund teacher demands an apology. Mr. Wood replies by puking green vomit at her. Then he turns his open mouth out into the audience, soaking the children in vomit. Mrs. Berman tells Kris she is suspended from school and, if she has it her way, possibly expelled.

Back at home, Mr. Powell tells Kris that Mr. Wood is going back to the pawnshop on Monday. He tosses the toy in the closet and sternly warns Kris against playing with the horrible vomiting ventriloquist dummy that she hates. Kris tries to drift off to sleep, but is awoken by the unmistakable sound of wooden feet walking across a carpeted floor. She is startled to find Mr. Wood has come out of the closet. She is even more shocked, when he tells her without a lisp that she and her sister are his slaves. Kris pounces on the dummy and the toy responds by punching her in the stomach. Wounded, Kris drops the toy and it starts scampering away into the hall. Kris catches up at the top of the stairs and throws herself over the toy. Lindy walks out into the hall and understandably has more than a few questions. Kris attempts to get up to explain and Mr. Wood slips out from underneath her and starts making his way down the stairs like a snake. Kris runs down to catch up with him and pins him beneath her foot, just as their parents arrive to ask what is going on. Kris and Lindy try to explain but their parents ground Lindy, believing that she helped Kris with the concert incident, begin to question Kris' mental well-being, and suggest maybe she should see a doctor. As soon as their befuddled parents disappear back upstairs, the toy comes back to life and tells the girls that they are still his slaves. Lindy and Kris respond by trying to decapitate him, first by pulling off his head, then by twisting it off, and finally by just hacking at it with a pair of scissors. None of these tactics work and Mr. Wood just calmly reminds them that they are his slaves. Mr. Wood soon finds himself stuffed into a suitcase by the two girls and buried underneath the loose soil of the construction site next door. After digging all night, the two girls collapse into their beds and drift off to sleep. Kris wakes up early and makes her way downstairs, only to find Mr. Wood waiting for her. She calls her family, but her parents continue to disbelieve her and leave the house to go to the store. Kris pleads with

her father to bring the dummy back to the pawn shop today, but Mr. Powell says no. Mr. Wood tells the two girls that someone is going to have to die to show he is serious and then starts choking Barky, the family dog. The girls try pulling the evil dummy off the dog but only end up dragging Mr. Wood and the dying dog across the kitchen tile. Mr. Wood finally loosens its grasp on Barky and the two girls run outside and toss Mr. Wood in the path of a steamroller. Right before Mr. Wood's about to be hit, Barky runs into the path of the steamroller and the two girls are forced to let go of Mr. Wood to rescue the dog. Mr. Wood escapes and begins taunting the girls, a taunt that is interrupted by another steamroller which slams into him from behind. A mysterious green gas rises from the smashed corpse of the toy. The driver running out of the steamroller starts panicking because he thinks he has run over a child. Then the girls start explaining that he only ran over a ventriloquist dummy. The twin sisters tell him that he can keep the toy's smashed corpse and they walk back home. Once the girls arrive back home, Slappy says to Kris, who is going to shut the open window, "Hey, slave - is that other guy gone? I thought he'd never leave!" and then he screeched with an evil laugh.

FIELD TRIP In our school, we went on a field trip to the Meydan Horse Stables. When we arrived there, we went through the entrance of the lush grass pathway. We were guided by our guide throughout the fieldtrip. When we went inside the stable, we saw a lot of horses in the area.

It was a wonderful experience learning about horses and how they are trained. They are trained hard on treadmills. We are guided on how the horses are fed and how expensive it is to take care of them. It was a great way to learn about horses. BY M.HADI
