TURKS AND CAICOS WEEKLY NEWS

The former national athlete had suffered a broken arm and a broken jaw.

Deangelo Germain has recovered nicely since the accident.

Germain “recovering well” after car accident FORMER national athlete Deangelo Germain is back on his feet after recovering from most of the injuries he sustained during an automobile accident on April 14. After a lengthy stay at the hospital, the dental hygienist is now back home. “So far I am recovering pretty well,” the 26-year-old stated in an invited comment this week. Germain who faced isolation, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was in immense pain after he had completed two surgeries in the latter part of April.

When he had spoken to the Weekly News, he noted that the pain he was feeling was so intense that he would not wish it upon his worst enemy. The former Munro College athlete, who represented TCI with distinction in his primary and high school years, had suffered a broken arm and a broken jaw, after he was struck down while exercising on Butterfield Drive. The bone in his right arm had pierced through his skin, so he was rushed to surgery when he arrived at the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre. To

fix the problem doctors implanted a metal rod. He also completed a surgery to the mouth, which had left him with temporary speaking problems. Throughout his time in the hospital, Germain had praised the doctors and nurses and they did not disappoint, since his jaw, which he claimed was “broken up”, and had nine screws, has almost healed. He is now left to fix his two front teeth, which were cracked. Despite the recoveries, the former

400M and 800M specialist noted that there are still both physical and mental hurdles to cross. “At first I was feeling self-conscious about my face, especially with my teeth but I am trying to get used to it…. Physically, I am not 100%, because there are still some things I can’t do and it has affected me mentally but I trying to cope with it.” Along with his teeth, Germain still has to look after his hand, which he hopes can recover quickly enough for him to return to work.

No masks and no ball boys - Premier League return plans revealed PLAYERS and coaching staff will not be required to wear masks at stadiums when the Premier League restarts. Players will be encouraged not to spit or clear their noses and not to break social distancing during goal celebrations. There will be no ball boys or girls - a system of sterilised replacement balls will be used. Aston Villa v Sheffield United will be the first game when the league returns on

17 June. In Germany's Bundesliga players and staff have been required to wear masks at all times, except for during play. In the Premier League they will not have to wear masks at all, even in the changing room or on the bench, although the fourth official as well as doctors and physios will have to. On Thursday the Premier League announced there will be a minute's silence to remember those who have died with

coronavirus before the first matches. Heart-shaped badges in tribute to frontline NHS staff will also be worn on kits. Clubs agreed to a range of medical and operational protocols for the restart of the season at a meeting on Thursday. There will be strict limits on those allowed into stadiums on matchdays and grounds will be split into zones, including the tunnel and pitchside. In total only 300 people will be in each

stadium, with no more than 110 in the 'red zone' including players, club staff and officials. There will be deep cleaning of corner flags, goalposts, substitution boards and match balls before and after each fixture. Some extra disinfection, such as of the substitution board after it is used, is likely to take place during matches and at half-time, while other work will be carried out during drinks breaks if they are permitted by the league.
