Open House Hawkbot’s Open House On January 17 Ocean View HS hosted an open house showcasing programs and clubs. Hawkbot members like Christopher Lee, Yasmin Jaramilo, Hieu Bui, Kendall Nakai, and Khang Vo represented our club, informing 8th graders and parents about the many benefits of getting involved with F.I.R.S.T..
Experience Kendall remembers how eager she was about building a robot and hopes the upcoming members enjoy it too. She also remembers how cool it was to see a robot built by high schoolers when she was in 8th grade.
“Even more so when there is a student, who with shine eyes, expresses the love for science, technology, and eager to join the team. It was great to see so many parents and student show up with enthusiasm!” - Kendall Nakia
Hieu Bui’s experience was explained as exciting and he was thrilled when a parent, student, or classmate came to the booth and asked about the robot out of cu4

2017 Build Season FIRST Robotics stands for FOR INSPIRATION & RECOGNITION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY. FIRST Robotics is a worldwide program in which students use the power of teamwork, ingenuity, and creativity to participate in building a robot from scratch. Every year, a new game is released and the difficult task at hand is to design, build, and perfect a robot in order to do good in the annual game seen as a competition. Each team is given six intense weeks to perfect a robot suitable for the competition. After the six weeks are up, robots are packed away into bags and students must wait until they compete in regionals and championships to reveal their creation.
Kick-Off Kick off day is the very first day our team works day and night to finish the robot best fit for the competition. Kick -off occurred on JANUARAY 7 ; it was exciting for every member and mentor. After watching what will be going on in this year’s FRC , we got to work and started to discuss what would be the best way to earn points . In the beginning, our team was split into groups. One group was in charge of the rules, Second group was in charge of the points, and the Third group was in charge for the measurements of the robot. For the competition it is required for each team to be able to get the fuel into the boilers to be able to power the steam pipes so teammates can receive gears from the robot and power the rotors. After long hours of hard work, YasFinally, with the last seconds of the game, mine’s om was so kind to bring us the robot must climb a rope. some delicious tamales.

Weeks of Building Week One Week one of Kick-off our new members and mentors were excited. Our hard-working team worked the hardest during this week and meetings were almost every night. During week one our team started to take measurements for the robot while a group of other members started to plan the frame of the robot.
Week Three During Week 3 we were finished figuring out the frame and where we would want to place the gear. The toughest part would during this week was climbing, bur as always the Hawkbots figured out a way to climb that everyone agreed on. For this week. A group of us figured out the climbing while another group working on putting the robot

Week Two During the next week of our time, our team started to build the frame itself. We were working our hardest during this week. We also started to have a final idea on how we would want to receive points. As for the new members, they were feeling how it is to build a robot. During this week we were working on the frame.
Week Four Once the time was running out , the team became to stay after meeting hours to work on the robot. This was new to the members but some were happy to stay and learn more as they built the robot. During this week we were figuring out how everything will be placed.

Week Five In week five, our robot was getting closer to being finished. So far our team was proud for the work we have put into it. For the new members. It was exiting to see all their hard work. During this week we were focusing on electrical and still piecing the robot together.
Week Six This week out team got finished in time. We are all proud of out our hard work and we can’t wait to play our robot in the competitions. The last few days was placing the electrical and driving the robot making sure it works.

SCRIMMAGE Scrimmage at Valencia High School In the past, this scrimmage as helped prepare ourselves for FIRST Robotics Competition. This has helped us isolate what needed improvements to make sure we are ready for the competition season. At the scrimmage in Valencia High school, everyone was eager to test out our new robot, Makoa, which was named after the new member of the family of our head mentors. It was exciting for every new member, especially me, (Kimberly Silva- Secretary), because it was my first scrimmage prior to the first competition I’ll participate in; It showed new members
EXPERIENCE WORDS FROM A NEW MEMBER
During the scrimmage, new members were taught how to scout and gather data by the returning Hawkbots. The students new to the family learned how important that job was to our team, dedicating a part of their day observing other teams test their robots. Every Hawkbot was very happy and satisfied to see that their hard work had payed off in a functioning robot that still has potential to improve. The team has fun and we all are looking forward to competition!!
A new member, Raymond McNiel, said that the scrimmage was very exiting for him. Raymond says his experience was exiting because a lot was going g on in the arena.
