Welcome
building digital portfolios creating films, podcasts and audio files building presentations designing and building for VR and AR The possibilities are endless and as the technology changes, so too does the learning engagement and the options available to us as teachers. Consider all the different ways you are utilising technology now. What other ways could you integrate technology into a learning experience?
When students work across platforms like Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams, they employ organisational and collaborative skills, enhancing the purpose of their work while considering their audience and delivery methods. These are fantastic futurefocused skills for students to embrace.

In this issue we explore the power of makerspaces as sites of deep STEM learning. We show you how to set one up and then we unpack our latest issue of T4L Kids, which asks students to design and develop a transport app. This kind of challenge could be perfect for your makerspace. We’d love to hear how your students go – don’t forget to share their ideas with us!
About magazine.T4L
ICT – an exciting challenge for all
This magazine is produced by Technology 4 Learning (T4L) at the Information Technology Directorate with the NSW Department of Education. This magazine is created on the lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. Artwork created by Suzanna, a student from Boggabilla Central School on Gamilaraay Country. It represents themes of community, school, friendship and family. 2
Today, students can demonstrate their learning by embedding technology in their work. Across curricula, this looks like:
There is a great opportunity for teachers to create engaging learning experiences with technology. I particularly like the TPACK model of learning (Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge model), with the SAMR model showing us that not all technology use has the same impact. An exciting challenge for you and your students could be to review, analyse and assess the learning undertaken using technology in class. Explore their experiences and start a conversation about how it could support deeper learning. Teachers need to integrate technology seamlessly into the curriculum instead of viewing it as an add-on, an afterthought, or an event.
NSW teachers named as judges in international competition

Two NSW public school teachers will represent Australia in the 2022 Universal Robotics Challenge World Final taking place in September in Japan. Julianne Doai, Mathematics teacher at Bankstown Girls High School, and Angela (Soo) Waesch, Head Teacher – Professional Practice, Innovation and Robotics Mentor at St Johns Park High School, are the first two female teachers named to represent Australia as international judges in the 2022 idea contest division at this renowned competition. Together, Julianne and Soo are pioneers in their field of robotics, leading the way and empowering women and girls who share their passion for STEM. This is a monumental step forward for women in STEM and we are extremely proud of Julianne and Soo. Congratulations from the T4L Team! We’ll be keenly following their progress and will report back.
ARTEXPRESS Virtual T4L is proud to have been involved in ARTEXPRESS Virtual – a virtual exhibition of the annual showcase of top HSC students in 2021. The 2022 exhibition launched in May and from the 4,000 works submitted, 52 were chosen to be digitally scanned using the photogrammetry process. The exhibition is housed in a virtual 3D gallery, and on launch night the artists and guests explored the artworks through iPad, large touch display screens and with immersive and interactive virtual reality using the new stem.T4L immersive VR kits, which feature the hi-resolution Reverb G2 headset. Check out the gallery of works!
