TECNALIA REHABILITATION
We undertake research in the field of rehabilitation devices for professionals dealing with the diagnosis, evaluation and management of people of any age with physical and/or cognitive impairment and disability. This area encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of patients with functional limitations. NEURO-REHABILITATION • Rehabilitation robotics and functional electrical stimulation for physical training and motor learning. • Tools to quantitatively assess the functional improvement. • Technologies allowing outpatient and home rehabilitation. • New methods for assessing motor and cognitive learning and training in terms of neuronal changes.
ORTHOPAEDIC REHABILITATION • Technologies that aim to aid recovery from musculoskeletal injuries, and minimize and/or compensate for any functional alterations. • Smart materials for support of function or recovery. • Biosignal sensing and feedback - Garments and Orthoses.
“TECNALIA has developed a technology based on functional electrical stimulation (FES) approach and using multichannel electrode arrays for paralysed muscle stimulation. The neuroprosthesis delivers electrical stimulation pulses to innervation pathways in order to replace the missing biological control signals. Movements are stimulated to perform motor functions like reaching, grasping or walking. FES neuroprostheses, like robotic devices, can be used in combination with a telerehabilitation platform for home use.”
