A Perfect Storm for Buzzin

The launch of Buzzin Media Groups new lifestyle publication takes to the sea with the children from the Bang Jing Jai Orphanage for an afternoon of Pirate fun.

Pattaya’s Biggest Party Boat

The Pirates of Pattaya Whilst Pattaya may not have too much in common with Gilbert and Sullivan, we do have our very own Pirate Ship. Fitting, some would say, but for us at Buzzin we welcome yet another quality attraction to the most happening town in Thailand. Admirallica has a huge capacity of up to 150 guests and during their daily tours, you not only get to visit the islands in style for swimming and snorkelling but with crew and entertainers all dressed like Captain Jack Sparrow the journey itself all becomes part of the show. The team at Admirallica also provide private charters, evening cruises and party cruises. As always you can find all the information on the Buzzin website http://www.buzzinmediagroup.com

Coffee with a View We all know the association of coffee and the effects caffeine can have, but here in Pattaya we can add to the buzz! How? Well imagine enjoying a lovely fresh coffee, but this time, instead of sitting in a cafe or restaurant why not sit overlooking the bay of Pattaya and enjoying what has to be one of the best views in town? Now that’s gotta be a buzz right? Where is this I hear you ask? Well, so many visitors here in

Pattaya, including residents, don’t realise that when you stand on Beach Road admiring the magnificent Pattaya City sign in the hillside, unknown to most is the fact that situated right above the sign is a wonderful coffee shop, called Coffee Break. But unlike most coffee shops, it has a panoramic view stretching right across the bay of Pattaya and as far as the eye can see. On a clear day you can see the Port of Laem Chabang, one of the busiest ports in Thailand.

Coffee Break offers all its visitors a full range of hot and cold coffee as well as shakes and soft drinks. Obviously, as I am sure you can imagine, it’s not big and seating is limited so make sure you are prepared to wait if they are busy, but trust me when I say this, the views are incredible and well worth the wait, you won’t have had a coffee here in Pattaya like this before that’s a certainty! To get there just follow the roads to the top of Pratumnak Hill and head up to the statue of Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongue. The Admiral was instrumental in the development of the Thai Royal Navy, so once you have finished your coffee why not wander around and learn all about this incredible man? The coffee shop is right there as one of our favorite spots in Pattaya and we think they make the best Green Tea as well.

DINING PATTAYA

Thailand is famous for its cuisine and for good reason! Thailand is one of the most amazing countries when it comes to culinary delights. Often travellers visiting for the first time are amazed at the diverse range of food available. Pattaya has its fair share of

restaurants offering international cuisine as well as the traditional local recipes, no matter what your taste buds desire the answer is here. In this edition we take a look at some of Thailand’s signature dishes.

Buzzin Lifestyle

Tom Yam Goong (Spicy Shrimp Soup)

The fusion of spices and herbs such as lemon grass, kefir lime leaves, tamarind, mushrooms and chilli pepper to name a few, once combined with coconut milk, form a mouth-watering soup that brings to the table a unique taste experience. This spicy and sour soup comes in a variety of styles which includes chicken, pork, seafood and prawn.

Pad Thai (Fried Noodle)

If you are a noodle lover then this is a must try dish. Dating back centuries, this dish is renowned for the balancing of five fundamental flavours in its preparation. Through history Pad Thai has separated itself into two main styles, the classic, which has bean sprouts, egg, fish sauce, shrimp and tofu as its main ingredients, whereas the alternative variation is relatively dry and not so heavily seasoned and more commonly served by street vendors.

Kang Keaw Wan Gai (Green Chicken Curry)

Chicken is not the most popular choice when it comes to cooking Thai food, however, this famous dish is the leader of the pack when it comes to Thai chicken dishes. This sweet and slightly spicy curry is created using green curry chilli paste, coconut milk, fish sauce, and sugar and normally served with steamed rice. This is a very popular dish and once you have tried it you will find out why!

Pattaya’s Island Life Pattaya is more than just a busy city, it gives you a taste of everything, from the hustle and bustle of city life, to the network of trendy bars and restaurants, as well as many nearby tourist attractions, you really are spoilt for choice. However, what a lot of people don’t realise, is that no more than a stones-throw away are some of the most wonderful and beautiful islands surrounding us. of papaya salad that includes dried prawns and crab shell, it’s an acquired taste and only for the brave that dare to turn up the heat level when it comes to spice! Be prepared and don’t say we didn’t warn you! If you want a quieter stay then you should head to the South Western part of the island, Thian Beach is a lot quieter, although almost the same size. It is immaculately clean and certainly a wonderful place to lay back and relax. If you want as close to your own private beach as you can, then you do have Samae Beach which is very small, approximately 100m long, and the quietest beach on the island without a shadow of doubt.

Koh Larn, situated to the west of Pattaya is notably the most known of all the islands, you can’t walk past Bali Hai Pier without having a board thrust in your face by a street tout or eager speedboat owner, beckoning you to go for a ride.

If you want a quieter stay then you should head to the South Western part of the island, Thian Beach is a lot quieter and it is immaculately clean. A great place to lay back take in the scenery and relax. The water is clean and there is some great coral reefs to explore. Just dont forget to bring your snorkel, mask and of course sunscream.

The island itself is a reasonable size, approximately 4km by 2km in size covering some 14,000 Sqm. If you opt for the slower ferry boat across it will take you around 45 minutes to get to the island, whereas Captain Speedboat can get you there in about 15 minutes, depending on how fast you want to go! Once you reach the island the most popular of the beaches is Ta Waen Beach in the northern part of the island.

on admit it, is kinda funny to watch when it’s not you! The beach offers you all you would expect from a highly popular destination, a range of stalls selling hats, goggles, wind chimes and just about anything else you may wish to take back as a souvenir. There are many restaurants offering some of the freshest seafood dishes around and of course it wouldn’t be Thailand if you didn’t have the vendors walking along the beach with their elephant fruit bowls, duvets and corn on the cob’s to name just a few of the wonderful items they will try to sell to you!

The beach is most known for its long, 750m stretch of white sand and beautiful clear sea. As soon as you arrive you will be offered a choice of sun beds and places to take shelter from the sun, they are pretty much all alike to be honest, but if you walk further along the beach near the boat pier, it’s a great place to sit back and watch people trying to come to terms with walking along a pontoon, that at times, really can be a tough one to negotiate.

The restaurants are clean and the food is good, the choice of food available is endless but here are a couple of favourites that you may wish to try out, delicious grilled prawns (pronounced GUNG in Thai) or some Crab Fried Rice (pronounced COW PAD BOO in Thai), both of these dishes will leave you wanting more! Thailand’s signature dish has to be Som Tam , this is a spicy mix

You do get the odd splash as someone takes a rather premature swim as they fall off the side, which yes, go 6

Now if all this talk of quietness is getting you thinking there isn’t much to do other than sunbathe or eat on Koh Larn, then think again, there is plenty to do! How about parasailing, rent out a jet ski (don’t panic, these are friendly operators), go hiking in the hills, you can try out shooting (please not the wife), then you have the forever popular banana boat ride, why do we love being thrown off these, you know you can’t hold on! There are also interesting activities underwater, including snorkelling, scuba diving, you can even walk along the seabed and feed the fish, this is a great experience, I have done this personally with my

young son and he absolutely loved it! If you want to go under the water but don’t fancy the whole swimming aspect then don’t worry, why not take a tour in a glass bottom boat? So, next time you want a day out and fancy a change from the water’s edge of Pattaya, why not head over to Koh Larn and enjoy a day on the island, you won’t be disappointed and probably won’t want to leave! Koh Khram, one of Pattaya’s most beautiful islands is a hidden gem. The island is under the watchful eye of the Thai Royal Navy and the number of tourists permitted to the island is strictly controlled, you won’t be jumping on a jet ski here that’s for sure! The island is more than just an island, it‘s the home to the beautiful sea turtle. During the breeding season the island is completely out of bounds to protect the turtles and anyone

Getting There It doesn’t matter where you are staying in Pattaya, getting to the Islands is easy. Ferrys leave every 30 minutes between 6:30am and 6:30pm from Bali Hai Pier (at the Southern end of Walking Street). Ferrys cost 30 baht per person each way and depending on the beach take about an hour to get there. There is no need to book in advance. If you prefer a quicker service, then there are numerous speedboat operators all along Beach road, Cosy Beach, Jomtien Beach and at Bali Hai who will take you to the beach of your choice. You can either go privately or join with other people. If you are taking a private charter, then expect to be charged around 3,000 baht for the day after you are done with your bartering! who dares to enter will find themselves staring down the turret of a naval ship quicker than you can say Jack Sparrow!

make the journey to Phuket, instead you can meander around this stunningly beautiful part of this magical island and take in all the natural beauty! The island has so many coves and inlets to explore, it’s almost like being Robinson Crusoe.

Head to the south of the island and you would think you have been time-warped to Phuket as some of the limestone dropoff’s depict a scene from Phang Nga Bay.

the surrounding waters are crystal clear. The marine life swim past freely and have no fear of coming right up close, it is a spectacular sight! You never know, if you look hard enough you may see Nemo swim past!

Kings Cup Marathon comes to Pattaya

We all like to keep fit in one way or another, but for those of you hardcore athletes out there maybe a challenge to compete in the Kings Cup Pattaya Marathon is right up your street? Every year Pattaya holds its very own marathon, and this one is not for the feinthearted. Its run in the early hours of the morning as the heat really can take its toll later on. Despite the early start, the event is very well supported and the streets are packed with well-wishers, as well as the odd late night party animal who is trying to stagger home, wondering why so many

people are running past! The run takes participants throughout Pattaya’s main streets, along Sukhumvit Road past the impressive Ambassador Hotel in Na Jomtien, until they return to Pattaya where just for good-measure they are challenged to climb the long hill up Thrappaya Road, before finally descending down to Beach Road for the last part of their run to the finishing line. The race is all about having fun, however, there is a serious side to the event as competitors come from across the world to compete for the title as well as the cash prizes on offer.

Essentials Despite the early start, expect Pattaya Beach Road to be packed with supporters. Many Roads will be closed all around Pattaya until around 11am

Party Bangkok

There has always been a huge rivalry between Singapore and Bangkok as to which city has the best nightlife in South East Asia. Singapore for sure has the glamour and a large number of options to keep you partying all night, but Bangkok has always held its own with some of the best super clubs and top international DJ’s to party the night away. One of the most popular areas for the young crowd in Bangkok is Royal City Avenue, or RCA as it is normally refered to. RCA is at the epicentre of the Bangkok scene and is also an officially designated nightlife zone. Two of the most well known clubs are Route 66 and Slim, which are packed every night of the week and always have a wide variety of events and promotions going on every night. For visitors, there are so many options at RCA and you can easily hop from one club to another as the mood suits you. You can enjoy international DJ’s, live bands as well as a variety of local artists. RCA is seperated into four blocks. Block A is closest to Rama 9 road, whilst Block D leads on to Petchaburi road. Whilst both have MRT underground stations, they are a little too far to walk from and our suggestion is to arrive via motorbike taxi or regular taxi.

Our Favorite RCA Spots LED (Formerly 808) - A mega-soundsystem and a range of bass-heavy musical genres played on Fridays and Saturdays only. On Fridays LED offer promotions with free drinks for ladies until midnight. Depending on the time and night you visit, the DJ could be spinning vocal house and chart music, through to the latest dubstep and techno. As the name suggests, LED has some amazing lighting and visual displays lighting up the dance floor. The crowd are typically young and dressed to impress. Mello Yellow - More of a music club and miniconcert hall than a party house, this funky venue is where to go to meet like-minded music lovers, and of course down a few bottles of beer, or choose a bottle from their impressive wine list. The place keeps its concert schedule eclectic and diverse, welcoming all music genres, although there is definitely a focus on jazz Onyx Bangkok - A focus on bass-heavy house and techno music. While most other clubs in the area close at 02:00, Onyx keeps the drinks flowing until 05:00 so it is always the last place to close.

Entry fee is 300 baht with a free drink. Route 66 - Has achieved legendary status in Bangkok for its wild parties and it seems everyone in the city has passed through their doors at one time or another. Open seven nights a week from 20:00 to 02:00, this massive club tries to cater for all musical tastes. Entry is 300 baht. Slim & Flix - The biggest club in the whole of RCA There is something for everyone here with house music, hip-hop and live music playing in their three different rooms. Entry is free for Thais and for foreigners it is 300 baht per person.

Shopping Heaven There are so many different areas for shopping in Bangkok and many are dedicated to specific products. If, for example you are in the market for a second hand engine you need a “Zieang Kong” shop. There are many of these in the Langsit area where they will literally drag an engine out of the shop for you and start it on the street. For more main stream shopping,, there there are several huge malls and markets around town for you to load up with your souveniers.

In the Pratunam area, take a walk around for a few hours and explore. You will find Pantip Plaza, which is a huge shopping mall catering purely for IT products. Just around the corner from there, you can find the wholesale clothing market, and the Platinum Mall. A short taxi ride away, you will find the enormous MBK mall, which quite literally has everything and is a cheaper alternative to Central which has more of the brand name stores available. 10

For an amazing shopping experience, then the weekend JJ market is a must visit. It is the largest market of its kind in Asia and you can literally spend all day there wandering around the stalls. JJ market does get very hot, so definitely make sure you take some extra water on your visit. For more information and the low-down on all of the shopping areas, checkout: http://buzzinmediagroup.com

Let’s go for a Massage! Pattaya and across Thailand is the massage heaven of the world, as you cannot walk 50 meters before you find a massage parlour. So what is on offer, what exactly are you in for, the minute you walk through the door? Here are the three most popular types of massage you can enjoy.

Traditional Thai Massage

Blind Massage Why not try a massage by a blind person? Their heightened senses connect with you at a level only they understand and the massage is out of this world! They find every knot or torn

muscle in your body by feel alone and know exactly how to rectify it! Pop along to the Thai Blind Massage Institute located in the Jomtien Complex, along Thrappaya Road, Jomtien.

Prices start from 300 Baht per hour upwards.

if you are feeling in need of a good stretch then this is for you. Expert masseuses climb all over your body using their feet and elbows to manipulate you back into shape using a variety of yoga-like positions. Even though this may sound a painful experience often many people fall asleep as they reach a level of relaxation due to rhythmic pressure to the body’s core system. Apart from a fresh new feeling having been pulled and prodded around for a couple of hours, Thai massage also claims to be able to relieve asthma, migraines, sprains, bruises and even anxiety. Prices range from 150 baht up to 500 baht/hour.

Thai Oil Massage If the thought of being pulled and prodded, walked over and stretched is all a little bit too much for you why not try an oil massage. Unlike a Thai massage, it requires you to remove your clothing, but don’t panic, subtle but effective use of a towel ensure your modesty stays intact. The massage lasts normally an hour, during which your body is gently but firmly massaged from head to toe. Lay back, relax and let the world drift by as practiced routines ensure maximum relaxation. Prices range from 200 baht up to 600 baht/hour

Foot Massage Probably one of the most enjoyable massages available, especially if you have been pounding the streets of Pattaya and are in need of a rest. Lay back in a nice comfortable reclining chair as your masseuse meticulously works around your feet. Thai foot massage focuses on stimulating the points used in acupressure and traditional reflexology and it’s so relaxing you are almost guaranteed to be sleeping in next to no time!

World’s Best Public Transport I have lived in many cities, from San Francisco, New York, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Tokyo and Singapore. To this day, I do not believe there is a better, more affordable efficient public transport system than in Pattaya. San Francisco may have the charm of the trolley buses, Hong Kong may have the novelty of riding to work on

an escalator and London has its iconic Routemaster but in Pattaya we have a combination of Baht Buses and Motorbike Taxis. Together these work as an incredibly efficient method of getting you from A-B quickly and at very low cost. Baht Buses are essentially converted pickup trucks that follow a designated route, or if you wish can be privately hired. A short distance will cost you

Pattaya - A Family Wonderland Essentials

Part of the charm of visiting or living in a foreign country is the diverse wildlife. Here are some of our favourite family-friendly animal attractions: Million Year Stone Park - Feed the crocodiles, watch the show, grab a photo with a Tiger. Nong Nooch - Ride an Elephant, watch the Elephant show, feed the monkeys, turtles, birds, fish and more. Monkey Island - A troup of over 100 wild monkeys just off the coast of Pattaya. You can even watch the monkeys swimming in the sea! Turtle Sanctuary - On the Sattahip Naval base, learn about the breeding program and visit the turtle hospital. For more info. and ideas, see www.buzzinmediagroup.com

Don’t get stuck for things to do with the family in Pattaya. There are more attractions and activities in Pattaya than in any other City in Thailand. For expats and tourists, here are some of our favourite family friendly things to do. Pattaya has at least 3 water parks that we can think of, each offering their own thing. Pattaya Park was the first water park in Pattaya and whilst it is now a little old, there are loads of slides, flumes and a huge pool all right by the beach. If you prefer something a little more extreme, there is the new Cartoon Network waterpark just 15 minutes away from Pattaya that provides high octane rides for teens and adults alike as well as a huge variety of smaller flumes for the younger kids. As an alterntive there is the water park at the Centara Grand Mirage Hotel. It is open to non residents and has a dedicated kids area (pictured above) as well as beautiful tropical gardens with water slides nestled into the landscape - certainly our favourite for a tropical paradise for kids and adults alike. Had enough of the beach, or something for a rainy day? Then why not try Art in Paradise on

Second Road, or The Teddy Bear Museum on Beach Road. Art in Paradise is an amazing collection of Three Dimensional artwork that provides a photo opportunity at every turn. We promise you that you will come back with hundreds of photos of the whole family interacting with these amazing pictures and landscapes - a truly unique attraction for Pattaya. Despite its name, The Teddy Bear Museum is not really a museum. There is nothing old or stuffy about the place. It is in fact a collection of huge rooms each with its own theme furnished by Teddys all dressed in suitable atire. In the dinosaur area kids can use a paint brush to sweep away the sand and find real dinosaur fossils, in the jungle they can sit on the Teddy Island jeep and in the wonderland area there is a huge two story slide and some of the largest cuddly toys you will have ever seen. We have lots more on our website as well as complete details on these attractions. Take a look at: www.buzzinmediagroup.com 17

parks dotted about the city offering specimen fish from Giant Mekong catfish, Arapaima, Red tailed catfish, Alligator Gar, Tiger fish and the list goes on. All fishing parks provide tackle and supply bait for a small sum of money. If you prefer you may take along your own tackle but make sure it is up to the job as there are some monsters to be hooked. Prices for a days fishing vary from park to park. At the majority of the fishing parks, there are food and beverage facilities, so need to take your own food. Some fishing parks even allow you to take one kilo of fish home for the dinner table and it is usually free. But it’s practice I forsake myself as it depletes the stocks of fish and may spoil another mans fishing in the future. So get tackling up and get out there and enjoy a great days fishing.

Welcome to The Dark Side

Essentials While the lake is the centre piece, surrounding the lake there are life size trains and planes on display for the kids, a world class golf course and Polo Club. A whole range of sporting activities are available from Cricket to Rugby and Football. The indoor stadium at Soi Chaiyapruk plays host to some of Pattaya’s largest events such as Burapa Bike week, Drifting competitions at the race track as well as providing a wonderful park to walk around and take in the view. The prices on the dark side are generally cheaper than in the city and on almost every soi, you will find a market. These are great places to explore away from the tourist traps and for just a couple of Baht you can have some wonderful fresh cooked thai food.

From Pattaya City, the area to the East Side of Sukhumvit Road is often refered to as “The Dark Side” - This stems from a time when there was little reason for a tourist or expat to visit. Times have changed. The Dark Side is now a vibrant area, popular with locals and expats alike. You won’t find any of the tourist traps on the Dark Side but you will find reasonable prices and a suprisingly large number of activities and things to do. Our top tip for a hidden gem, head up Soi Khao Talo and at the top of the hill where you will find a local temple. At the back of the temple, you will find a set of steps that take you to the very top of the hill. Take the time to walk up and you will be rewarded with a stunning 360 degree vista of the Ocean and the City.

Whilst on Soi Khao Talo, why not also take the time to visit one of the markets, these are a great experience to walk around and see how the locals shop. If you don’t fancy Thai food, then there are many many western restaurants and bars all along the soi. Check them out and get a real taste of the darkside. As always, you can find out more about all these places and the hidden side of Pattaya on our website. www.buzzinmediagroup.com

Getting a UK Visa A UK tourist visa for a Thai wife or Thai girlfriend is also commonly referred to as a UK holiday visa. This visa is given to a Thai National to allow them to travel to the UK on holiday to experience the United Kingdom to meet your family and make sure that if you wish in the future your Thai girlfriend or Thai wife would be comfortable settling in the UK. We like to call the UK Tourist visa for a Thai the acid test, to make sure that you and your Thai partner are suited to living in the UK and the differences in culture. A UK Tourist visa for a Thai is not designed to allow you to reside with your Thai partner in the UK It is exactly what it says for tourism purposes and repeat aplications should be done in moderation as there is only so much to see in the UK.

A UK Tourist visa for a Thai is normally given as a 6 months visa and please be aware that you can only spend a 6 months period in any one year in the UK. So if you are awarded a 6 months holiday for your Thai girlfriend or Thai wife then after 6 months in the UK together your Thai partner must then spend 6 months back in Thailand before reapplying or face the chance of being rejected. The main aspects of a UK tourist visa is the documentation and presentation and making sure the correct statements are made to the Embassy clearing officer as one wrong word can spell disaster and nobody wants a refused visa application.

The Rango Steak House opened recently on Second Road, just before Soi 6/1 and is rapidly gaining a strong local following amongst the local expat crowd. The Rango Steak House is the latest creation from the family that brought us the famous Ali Ba Ba’s restaurant on Pattaya Klang. As with Ali Ba Ba’s you can expect some great food accompanied by first class service. The Rango Steak House is a family friendly restaurant so feel to bring a long the whole family.
