BESS Sizing Tool

The tool compares the desired utility-scale batteries (BESSs) and determines the best option according to di erent indicators.

To do so, the tool internally runs the EMS developed by Tekniker and simulates the operation of the plant during the full lifetime of the BESS.

The tool is applicable to hybrid configurations including renewable production (wind and solar PV). Moreover, it can run for standalone cases.

Technical description

The sizing tool is flexible and adaptable:

Adaptable to the desired markets (day-ahead, intraday, aFRR…), already implemented for multiple countries (turnkey solutions).

Enables simulating the desired forecast errors during the operation.

Multi-scenario and multi-objective optimization adapted to the user’s priorities:

• Possibility to include worst-case scenarios in the optimization problem.

• Optimization algorithm including the battery degradation to ensure cost-e ectiveness.

Software details

Possibility to run via a Windows application, or via command window, using Python or MATLAB®.

These options can be extended to the client’s convenience.

Experience

Adapted for the Spanish and Australian markets.

Already implemented for industrial clients.

Output files in the desired format (.csv, .json, .mat, graphical results…), including:

• Comparison between the batteries simulated and revenues breakdown by market.

• Real operation during the complete lifetime for each battery specified.
