Energy Management System for Hybrid Power Plants

Tekniker has developed a plant controller for hybrid power plants (HyPPs) with energy storage systems, consisting of an EMS and PMS level.

Adaptable to multiple plant configurations combining wind, solar PV, BESS and electrolyzers.

TWO MAIN CONFIGURATIONS COVERED

Grid connected | These plants aim to maximize their revenues participating in electricity markets.

O grid | Complying objectives such as feeding the critical loads in the system, maximizing the hydrogen production…

Technical description

The EMS calculates the energy to produce by each subplant of the HyPP for each scheduling period. In addition, it determines the bids for pay-as-cleared markets, such as energy (day-ahead, intraday) and ancillary service (aFRR, FCAS) markets.

Multi-objective optimization approach

Profit/Hydrogen production maximization, storage system degradation minimization, emissions reduction…

Multiple market participation

Select the electricity and Hydrogen markets to participate at (prepared for multiple countries).

Optimality and robustness ensured

Linearized formulation for ensuring in-time and feasible results.

Metaheuristic algorithms for improving the linearized result.

Real-time operation approach

Feasibility ensured by multi-scenario consideration (possibility to include stochastic approaches).

Software and Hardware

Developed in MATLAB® and Python and distributed as a library. Direct implementation via libraries in other languages such as JAVA, Python, C++…

Native optimization solver from Mathworks® integrated.

Hardware requirements based on problem complexity.

Experience

Adapted for the Spanish and Australian markets.

Already implemented for industrial clients. Jon
