“WHEN
DREAMS BECOME A REALITY”
With close to 20 years of experience in luxury black car service, husband and wife team Rich and Sue Reyes decided to leave the LA area to bring first class car service to Temecula Valley Wine County. With what was once only a vision that has now become a reality, Rich and Sue are taking wine tours to the next level. “In just a little over a year and half, our dream for Tour del Vino has definitely become a reality for us—with the help of our amazing partnerships with the wineries, Airbnb’s, estates, luxury suites, and hotels in the area,” Sue mentions with a smile. “With guests from Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Palm Springs, and all over the country—it is our pleasure to provide our guests with an experience of Temecula Valley Wine Country like no other. The close partnerships we’ve cultivated with the wineries—alongside our experience with black car service—allows us to give our guests a truly unique and unforgettable experience.”

And now for some news, my dear readers. I am now nine months pregnant with my first baby. Any day now, we will be adding this little dude to the Vibe staff. Family has always been incredibly important to me, and I know you never get the newborn baby time back after your kids are grown. So, to give me a little bit of a maternity leave, we are going to be taking a short break from print after this issue. We will still be active on social media and our website, so be sure to subscribe and follow us for updates. After the couple months we take off, we will be back and better than ever—before you know it— ready to share and discover more about the valley we love so much. Now, on to the fun stuff! This issue is all about Community. We are happy to bring you info on some of our favorite local non-profits, and how residents around town are donating their time and

money to these incredible causes. We will explore the benefits of giving back and getting involved—and talk to a few people who have made it their mission in life to do good for others. We’ll introduce you to the incredible Kodi Lee and the rest of the Lee family, as they reacclimate to life on the other side of America’s Got Talent’s golden buzzer. Find out some of our favorite stops around town to shop, eat, and drink local—as we hear from a few locals on their favorite spots as well. As always, we will discover some great new places to explore in our area, including this issue’s cavernous spotlight winery: Oak Mountain. I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Remember to shop local, check out some local events, get involved with the community, and above all—be good to each other. We will see you soon! F

Launch Pointe BY KATRINA McBREEN
LIVING IN THE TEMECULA VALLEY has so many incredible perks.
Wine country is in our backyard, the beach and San Diego are just a short distance down the way, the snowy mountains aren’t far, and the desert is our playground. Nearly every possible outdoor adventure you can think of is right here at our fingertips—and just a short drive away. What many of us forget, however, is that we have our very own lake right next door—complete with an incredible brand-new lakeside resort called Launch Pointe. Lake Elsinore is the perfect destination for those who love to boat, fish, paddle board, kayak, or camp. Camping at Launch Pointe, or even visiting for just a day trip, you’ll forget how close you really are to home. With gorgeous mountains to the west, and the beauty of the lake before you, this lakeside resort will make you feel like you are worlds away. Though travel is fantastic, and one of the biggest spices of life in our opinion, sometimes it just isn’t in the cards. When work, family commitments, and finances get in the way, it is easy to throw in the towel on adventure. But instead of resigning yourself to another weekend spent on the couch, take your family on a staycation instead. Adventure is what you make it, and the first step is exploring the wonder in your own backyard. Launch Pointe is unlike any other resort in our area and offers a one-of-a-kind lakeside experience. Newly built and opened, this gorgeous and family-friendly destination resort opened up in July of 2019. Completely modern, the campground and boat dock are the perfect spot for family fun, couples, grown-up groups, and even wedding festivities and other events. With plenty of spacious RV spots with full hookups, each spot in the campground enjoys a beautiful view of the lake and full access to the resort’s many amenities. Offering spots with privacy fences for those hoping for some solitude, as well as more group-oriented spots, Launch Pointe features security cameras over all of their camping areas and patrolling security units for your safety and peace of mind. If you do not have a recreational vehicle or trailer, you can “glamp” in luxury in one of their unique yurts. Each of their six themed yurts contain beds and furniture as well as a coffee bar and refrigerator— each with its own bathroom and sink located a short few steps outside

the structure. Secure showers are located conveniently inside the yurt village. For those with a taste for nostalgia, Launch Pointe’s vintage trailers are the perfect way to camp comfortably within your own blast from the past. Vintage Village, with perfectly restored vintage trailers from different eras—dating back as far as the 1940’s—is situated in a gorgeous secluded clearing surrounded by tall majestic trees. A beautifully crafted dualstone fireplace graces the center of the village’s common area, with chairs and tables surrounding it encouraging guests to mingle amongst each other and get to know their camping neighbors. Each vintage trailer features modern amenities and custom layouts, including air conditioning and a RFID locking system. You’ll also get your very own deck with patio furniture so you can gaze out over the lake with your morning coffee. Enjoy Launch Pointe’s permanent food truckturned-lakeside café, the Bobber, for some delicious eats and experience live music every Friday and Saturday. Right next door to the Bobber, you’ll find all of your fishing needs at Launch Pointe’s Bait and Tackle shop. Head over towards Launch Pointe’s all new guest’s services office, where you can take a dip in their large sparkling pool or soak in the relaxing hot tub to really get in the vacation mode. Their beautiful community hall building—complete with upper deck overlooking the lake—is the perfect backdrop for a magical lakeside wedding reception, corporate retreat meeting space, or even a family reunion. April kicks off Lake Elsinore’s spring boating season. The lake will be open for boats, fishing, water sports, kayaking, paddle boarding, and other amazing festivities. Their one-of-a-kind splash pad—set to reopen in March—is perfect for keeping the kiddos (and grown-ups) cool during our hotter spring and summer months. With Spring Break camping specials and a special concert series in the works, Launch Pointe is working hard to make Temecula Valley’s local lake a fun, community-oriented place for the residents of the valley to gather for some fun in the sun. hat better way to show support for your cause than to wear it proudly around your neck? Locally-owned La Masters of Fine Jewelry can make that happen. Through their fantastic Jewelry for Your Cause program, they make beautiful custom pieces for charities and non-profits that can be sold to raise funds for the cause. Giving back to the community has always been incredibly important to Leah Finn, owner of La Masters. Whenever she can, she contributes to local causes through the success of her business. Jewelry for Your Cause allows La Masters to do what they do best—make incredible pieces of jewelry—in order to do good for people in need. Jewelry for Your Cause is open to any non-profit or charity in the area and beyond. La Masters will work with you to design a custom piece representing your cause. Using your logo or emblem, they will create a gorgeous line of pendants or bracelets. Choose from gold, silver plated gold, or dia-
mond embellishments to customize the piece to the cause. Once the design is approved by you, La Masters will manufacture as many pieces as you desire for your inventory. After the pieces are ready to pick up, La Masters will sell the pieces to you at wholesale so your non-profit will then be able to sell the stunning pieces to raise funds for the cause. Some of Jewelry for Your Causes’ previous projects include the American Heart Association, the Boys and Girls Club, Charity for Charity, Jacob’s House, Komen for the Cure, Our Nicholas Foundation, and many more. Nominated numerous times for Business of the Year Award by the Temecula Chamber of Commerce, La Masters has taken home the award three different times. They have been serving Temecula for over 30 years since their opening in 1988. With such a strong connection and roots in the Temecula Valley it is no wonder that this family-owned business’ ties to the community run deep. F

Matt’s son Jaden (pictured on stage with his dad above) and his wife Hannah FreemanFallesen (pictured right) are proof that for this trio, music is a family business.
Edward Jones financial advisor by day, classically-trained opera singer by night—Matthew Fallesen is a man of many talents. And now he is bringing Vegas-caliber entertainment to the Temecula Valley for a very good cause. Because of his passion for art and in an effort to give back to the community, Matt has decided to organize “Pop Up Noize” events three to four times a year where the proceeds go directly to local non-profit organizations. His February event, “Matt’s Magnificent Mardi Gras”, will benefit local non-profit JDS Creative Academy—but he is always looking for new organizations and causes to support with the event. The Pop Up Noize events feature exciting entertainment from opera singers and magicians, to belly dancers and other incredible musical acts. You’ll enjoy an evening of good food, tasty drinks, and unforgettable entertainment while supporting our local art scene. You’ll often find shows of this caliber in San Diego, Los Angeles, and other big cities, but Matt has made it his mission to bring this type of Vegas-style entertainment closer to home. For more information on Pop Up Noize or to find out about their next event, visit them on Facebook @popupnoize. Matt’s artistic side is matched only by his business savvy. Matt’s down-to-earth and artistic personality really shines through in his work with his clients. “I want to help people understand their money and where it is going,” Matt explains. Matt works with the general population as well as business owners. “For business owners,” Matt adds, “we handle their own personal finances, but also provide business retirement plans for themselves— through the business--and for their employees through accounts such as 401k, Simple IRA, SEP IRA, and Owner K.” He specializes in tax efficiency and can also help people navigate estates and trusts. COMMUNITY GIVING THE GIFT OF SOUND:
The Miracle-Ear Foundation by Pax Ansley
O
ur sense of hearing is typically one that we don’t understand the importance of until it is on its way out—or worse, completely gone. Millions of people across the globe start to experience hearing loss as a gradual process as they age, and think it is “just one of those things” about getting older. The truth is, the process of hearing impairment can be slowed if it is caught early on. A simple hearing evaluation—like the ones they offer at your local Miracle-Ear—can help you find the right hearing aid for your particular degree of loss. And the correct hearing aid can make all the difference in the world. But what about those who cannot afford the proper equipment? What about those who simply cannot make it into an office for an evaluation? Instead of letting these vulnerable populations slowly drift into the silence and isolation of severe hearing loss, Miracle-Ear is committed to reaching out to these members of our community in every way they can. Miracle-Ear performs frequent home visits to assisted living and retirement communities across the valley. The residents of these centers are often the ones who need hearing health care the most—and the ones who are least likely to be able to get into an office on their own accord. Senior citizens are also among the most likely to develop dementia and other psychological disorders that are scientifically proven to be connected to hearing loss. Trained Miracle-Ear Hearing Specialists will travel to the community to offer the residents free hearing evaluations and hearing aid cleanings—allowing them to get the help they need and would otherwise not be
able to access. In addition to residential communities, Miracle-Ear also visits various senior centers throughout the area—offering the same evaluation and cleaning services. This allows those members of the community who are not able to get to a hearing center the ability to get those same services that they desperately need. They also frequent health fairs to offer their services to a wider range of patients. Through the Miracle-Ear Foundation, those with lower income or no insurance can qualify for free brand-new or refurbished hearing aids. Their Gift of Sound Program provides these recipients in need with the same quality service as MiracleEar’s paying customers—because no one should be left in silence. Made possible with the support of donated, functioning or non-functioning hearing aids as well as generous cash donations from the community, the Miracle-Ear Foundation has helped thousands of patients receive quality hearing care in their time of need. Contact your local Miracle-Ear office to ask about a financial donation to the program or to donate your used hearing aids. F

Sydnee Michaels Cele Golf Tournament
F
rom the glamourous stage of Ms. America to the greens of the LPGA tour, Temecula Valley local golfer-turned-pageantcontestant Sydnee Michaels has used her platform to spread a message of female empowerment across the nation. And now, she is bringing the Sydnee Michaels Celebrity Golf Tournament to Murrieta’s Bear Creek Golf Club. On Monday March 23rd, golf pros of the PGA and LPGA, NFL stars, and all manner of other celebrities will descend on the Temecula Valley to play 18 holes for a good cause. Open to all golfers, participants will have the opportunity to shake hands—and get paired up—with celebrity golfers, all while enjoying a day of sunshine out on the beautiful course at Bear Creek. Through the Sydnee Michaels Foundation, the proceeds of the event will be donated to three charities and non-profits that are incredibly close to Sydnee’s heart. The Southern California Professional Golfers’ Association Foundation’s mission to provide young golfers with opportunities to practice and hone their skills—on and off the course— supports the growth of the game through various initiatives. Similarly, the Valley Jr. Golf Association works to promote the traditions of golf and encourage competition and camaraderie among junior golfers. Both the SCPGA Foundation and the VJGA are working hard to encourage more women and girls to get involved in the sport through scholarships and female tournaments. The third charity to benefit from the event is the beloved local non-profit, Rancho Damacitas—a big part of Sydnee’s platform since her run with the Ms. America pageant. Rancho Damacitas serves children and single mothers who were the victims of abuse and violence in the home. Through different types of programs and resources, Rancho Damacitas strives to help these women and children achieve financial stability, accountability, and faith in themselves. The Sydnee Michaels Foundation’s mission is to encourage girls and women in sports as well as working towards female empowerment in all aspects of life. This co-ed event is open to all golfers. The tournament will feature teams of four amateurs matched up with a celebrity. During the tournament, a local vendor showcase will be set up along the course—with greenside tastings from Refuge Brewery, Batch Mead, and Wilson Creek Winery. The night before the event, participating golfers—as well as the

ticketed general public—will have the chance to enjoy a Pairings Cocktail Party. With live entertainment, a hosted bar, buffets, and a raffle, this pretournament party will feature beer by Garage Brewing and sparkling wine by Wilson Creek Winery. Rub elbows with some of the 18 participating celebrities—including NFL kicker Brandon McManus of the Denver Broncos and San Diego Charger Alumni running back Hank Bauer. You’ll have the chance to get acquainted with your team as you enjoy the night. Included in your tournament fees, you’ll be invited to attend an 8am player’s breakfast—bright and early before the 10am shotgun. In addition to the Pairings Cocktail Party and the Player’s Breakfast, your fees also include lunch on the course during the tournament, all green fees, and even some great tee prizes. The tournament is free to watch by the general public. Hoping to grow into an annual tournament, Sydnee would love for the Celebrity Tournament to be a one-of-a-kind event that functions as a showcase for the Temecula Valley and all of the incredible things we have here. If you would like a way to promote your business to the local area and support a great cause, the Tournament is also open for sponsorships and raffle donations. For more information on the event, to sign up, or to become a sponsor, visit Sydnee’s website at sydneemichaels.com/ sydnee-michaels-foundation-golf-tournament. See you on the green! F

23-year-old Kodi Lee did what he was born to do—he inspired the world with a song. With his ecstatic family watching from the wings, Kodi demonstrated to the world what can be accomplished when you have a fire in your heart and a team surrounding you that refuses to give up.

every person’s life, there are moments that come along that change everything. For the Lee family, that moment came in the form of a golden buzzer—the perfect ending to the musical performance of a lifetime. With nothing more than his gorgeous voice and a piano on the stage of America’s Got Talent,
Kodi is blind and autistic. From a young age, Kodi’s mom Tina knew he was different. “At first, you start to blame yourself,” Tina remembers, “But then I realized what a truly extraordinary person Kodi is. He is an angel, and I am so honored to be his mom.” After spending time with Kodi, it becomes immediately evident what a pure and genuine soul he is. He lives to spread love and joy and to make people happy. As Tina proudly puts it, “We need more people like Kodi in the world.” After his incredible golden buzzer performance, given by America’s Got Talent judge Gabrielle Union, Kodi went on to win season 14. As AGT judge Simon Cowell told Kodi after his audition, “I am going to remember this moment for the rest of my life.” Pride doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of the feelings that the Lee family—his biggest fans—were feeling as they watched their Kodi sing his way into America’s heart. Raising a child takes a village. For children with disabilities, this is especially true. Luckily, Kodi is surrounded by the best team possible. His loving mom, Tina, has been his number one since day one. “We are a package deal,” she admits with a smile, “Having Kodi was such a precious gift, and also a responsibility of the best kind. I just knew I had to share him with the world.” Becoming a mother completely changed Tina’s life. After Kodi, Derek, and Kayla were born, Tina felt as if she did a complete 360. “Before my kids, I hate to say it, but I was cold and selfish—they taught me compassion,
TEMECULAVALLEYVIBE.COM
18
patience, and love,” Tina adds, “Kodi, especially, taught me not to take things for granted, and what an absolute miracle it is to be alive.” Through it all, Tina knows that her faith in God is what has carried her through the tough times. Eric and Tina have never stopped working as a team for their children. These two are living proof that it is possible to
co-parent and continue to be a family—even in an unconventional sense. Their devotion to their children is absolutely inspiring. Eric is a graphic designer by profession and does freelance work for multiple clients. Of course, Eric’s newest career path has him joining the team of the Valley’s newest rockstar—his son Kodi. After Kodi’s success with AGT put him on the national radar, Eric began using his expertise to design and build Kodi’s website as well as all of his graphics and logos for merchandise. Derek and Kayla have always looked up to their big brother, Kodi. Of course, growing up with a sibling with disabilities is rarely easy—but the trio have always been close. Knowing how hard it can be, mom Tina was careful not to ask her son or daughter to make it their responsibility to take care of their brother. However, as time went on, an amazing thing happened: Derek and Kayla selflessly chose to take care and look out for their brother without being asked to. Derek, now 21 years old, has always had a great “brother relationship” with Kodi. When they were younger, Derek would constantly pester his older brother—as little brothers do—looking for attention. “Derek would crawl up to Kodi, wanting to love on him and play with him,” Tina remembers, “Derek was the first one to help Kodi accept touch and contact. They really have taught each other so much.” Fun-loving Derek was also the one to teach Kodi the beauty of a good practical joke—the love language of brothers. A lover of humor and adventure, Derek loves that he has been able to travel with his brother across the country as part of his team. Just as Derek has taught his big brother about humor and the importance of human touch, Kodi has taught Derek the meaning of perseverance and strength in the face of adversity. Diagnosed with an auto-immune eye condition called uveitis at the age of seven, optimistic Derek has never let this get in his way. He has demonstrated to himself and his family
that his loving and positive nature is matched only by his resolve and strength. The youngest of the Lee siblings, 20-year-old Kayla is a natural caretaker. Currently in her second year of college in Irvine, Kayla is studying to be a doctor. Her incredible sense of intuition and nurturing gives her the perfect disposition for the medical profession. Inspired by her brothers’ medical diagnosis, Kayla knew from a young age that her end game would be to take care of people like Kodi. “When they were younger, Kayla was always asking to learn how to take care of Kodi—it was just in her nature,” Tina reminiscences, “Without being asked, she would be by his side, helping with all of the day to day processes that are hard for Kodi to do on his own.” Kodi is a prodigious musical savant—one of approximately 25 in the world. He picked up piano by ear alone at 2 years old. The Lee family discovered, on a trip to Disneyland, just how much of an entertainer Kodi really was and how it would change his life forever. As the family sat and enjoyed lunch at the park, little Kodi heard the harmonious tones of a nearby Acapella group. After watching the group and drumming along, one of the singers noticed little Kodi keeping a perfect beat. After finding out from mom that he was also a singer, the performer asked if Kodi wanted to join them. He immediately agreed and went up to sing with the group. As a crowd began to form around them, Kodi’s family watched something in him change. Performing with the group, he was entirely in his element—Kodi had found his happy place. The group was so impressed with Kodi, they invited him to join them for the rest of the afternoon. That moment changed everything. Suddenly, Tina and Eric knew how to help connect their special son with the rest of the world. “It gave us hope. Once we found Kodi’s strength, the thing he loved to do, it was like finding a window into his world—we knew how to reach him. The moment he begins to perform, it is like a switch is flipped within him.” Kodi was born to entertain. Music is the way in which he understands things and the way he relates to the world. It motivates him to learn life skills such as socialization, patience, and communication. Music is Kodi’s love language. “We found his niche,” Tina adds, “We just needed to give him the opportunity to hone his skill and talent.” His devoted team of teachers have worked tirelessly to help him get to where he is today, including his piano teacher Yiyi Ku—who has gotten him to Carnegie Hall twice. His tapdancing teacher, Sarah Fekete, has helped him with balance and movement as well as fitness—to help Kodi work off his favorite treat: delicious hot chocolate. Of course, his incredible vocal coach, Salvatore “Sal” Spinelli has been with him since the beginning and has helped Kodi—along with his other vocal coach, Nonie Hilgesen—to sculpt and perfect an already beautiful gift of song. Before there was America’s Got Talent, there was Kodi’s band, “The Midnight Satellites”, whom he absolutely adores. He has every intention of continuing his local shows. “We live in a very special place,” Tina explains, “When we moved here nine years ago, I knew we needed to find somewhere that would accept and see Kodi for the beautiful soul he is—not just his disabilities. His teachers, local fans of his music, and the community here accepted him with open arms. You just don’t find this kind of people everywhere.” We can all learn a lesson in unconditional love from this inspiring family. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Learn to forgive. Everything is going to be okay. And above all, never give up. F

BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TO GRAZE WITH GRAZING THEORY BY PAX A N SLE Y
is a new way of enjoying food. Quickly gaining in popularity, grazing is essentially eating a little bit of everything while enjoying the company of others. Charcuterie is the perfect presentation of food for grazing. With a gorgeous selection of meats, cheeses, olives, fruit, honey, nuts, jelly, and crackers--to name a few components— @golden_arrow_photo charcuterie boards provide a certain “wow” factor and a beautifully colorful conversation piece to help provide the ideal atmosphere for this “new” way of eating. Gina LaMora, founder and owner of Grazing Theory, has always enjoyed hosting and party planning. When partygoers at her events began marveling and asking about her gorgeous charcuterie displays, the idea for Grazing Theory started to take shape. “Grazing is all about connection,” Gina explains, “Breaking bread with someone naturally develops a sense of camaraderie.” Creating and discussing different flavor profiles in search of the perfect bite is also an incredible conversation starter. Grazing at a charcuterie board is a one-of-a-kind experience. Grazing Theory came into existence just over 10 months ago. They are a fully licensed and insured catering company that operates out of a kitchen in historic Vail Headquarters off of Temecula Parkway, and occupy a new loft space above Temecula Brewing Company. They also hope to partner with local wineries and breweries to turn the space into a kind of local tasting room showcase for the community. Gina tries to incorporate local sourcing as much as possible for her boards. From local raw honeycomb used to make their signature Brie to locally made Mrs. G’s Jelly, Grazing Theory is all about bringing the community together. They have also partnered with some of Temecula’s favorite wineries and wine tour companies—such as Akash, Danza del Sol, Peltzer and Tour del Vino—to bring the beauty of charcuterie to wine country with their ready to order tasting boards and charcuterie workshops. Let’s Talk Tacos:
Angel Tapia of Tap’s Taco Catering BY: KATRINA M cBREEN
Owner Angel Tapia in his element.
—no matter what culture you are from—has a way of bringing people together. For the Hispanic culture in particular, food is an essential piece of their identity. Twenty-four-year Temecula native Angel Tapia, like many other children of Hispanic heritage like him, had two incredible women in his life that helped to inspire his love and passion for cooking. His grandmother and mother set a foundation for his family’s love of food—especially when it is made from scratch with love. “As a child,” Angel remembers, “I would always be in the kitchen with my mother and grandmother, assisting with the meal and learning their techniques.” Angel’s dream of a career in the culinary arts began all those years ago—but it wasn’t until just about a year ago that he finally started a business of his own. Using the inspiration of his family’s recipes with a twist, and the incredible street tacos from Tijuana he enjoyed as a boy, Angel started a local taco catering business called Tap’s Taco Catering. Angel puts it simply, “I do what I do because it’s my passion and it makes me happy.” He loves watching people come together to enjoy the food that he prepares with love— just as his grandmother taught him. Angel’s is not your typical taco catering business. The level of customer service he offers throughout the planning process will give you just a taste of the professionalism you will experience on the day of

your event. He works hard to understand what the customer desires as well as the vibe of the party itself. Tap’s offers quesadillas as well as traditional street tacos—with a “choose three” option between four different types of meat, veggie options, or even seafood! Their two-hour serving experience includes rice and beans, traditional taco garnishes, a full home-made salsa bar, your choice of a delicious agua fresca beverage, and all paper goods needed for serving. For Angel, communication is the key to success in the catering business. “Why choose us? Because we care,” Angel adds, “From start to finish, we make it easy to do business.” Incredibly responsive and accommodating, Tap’s Taco Catering is Temecula Valley Vibe Magazine’s go-to for simple and delicious event catering—and we are never disappointed. has changed in the world of men’s fashion over the years. Long gone are the days of “Dapper Dans” donning their fedoras and tailored suits every time they left the house. Vigilantly shined custom leather shoes have slowly been replaced with the newest designer sneakers or flip flops. It seems that custom suits and shoes have all but disappeared from the modern man’s wardrobe—and can only be found on the runways of New York, Paris, or Milan. However, in a little shop in the heart of Old Town Murrieta, it seems that the lost art of bespoke design isn’t completely lost after all. As a little boy, Jeremy “Geronimo” Ochoa can remember sitting and watching his grandfather—a self-taught craftsman tailor—hard at work resoling and repairing shoes, making belts out of carefully tanned leather, or fixing and hemming pants and jackets. Geronimo’s grandfather was an immigrant. Because his large family lived off of very little means, his grand-

father simply taught himself to make and repair clothing and shoes—completely out of necessity. In doing so, he unknowingly began planting seeds of inspiration in his young grandson. “My grandfather taught me everything I know about making clothes and shoes,” Geronimo smiles, “I would just sit and watch him work and be completely mesmerized. I even remember the way he smelled—he always smelled like leather, wood, and aftershave. Everything I do today is in the hopes of making him proud.” Walking into Geronimo’s Clothing and Barbershop in Old Town Murrieta is like stepping into the past. The sights and smells of nostalgia come flooding in as you breathe in the beautiful shop. Custom clothing, shoes, and accessories adorn mannequins that seem to beckon you inside. Red velvet curtains frame the traditional barber shop in the back of the store, and a vintage shoeshine chair sits in the corner next to a display of custom-made shoes. Getting a suit designed and made by Geronimo is truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment you walk into his shop, he takes the time to get to know your style and preferences to make you the perfect suit that will make you feel comfortable—like the best version of yourself. “Geronimo approaches his craft with professionalism and precision. I couldn’t ask for a better fitting custom suit,” says longtime customer James Shelby. The process starts with measurements, wool color and pattern selections, and design—and ends with a fitting of the final product, to make sure the suit fits you exactly right. “I help build confidence in men through teaching them to feel assured in dressing themselves,” Geronimo explains. In addition to his custom suits, shoes, and hats, Geronimo also offers suit tailoring, alterations, leather repair, hat restoration and resizing, and shoe repair and restoration—as well as a full array of haberdashery. You’ll find leather goods such as belts and messenger bags, as well as an assortment of vintage cufflinks and other accessories. He has even recently started branching out into custommade women’s shoes! Pop in for a haircut for a true traditional barber experience with barbers Juan Carlos Manimbo and Omar Pimentel—complete with full grooming services and a straight razor shave. Make a day of it while you sit for a full shoeshine and sip on a glass of whiskey. “I am just doing what I can to bring a little more goodness and beauty into the world. My grandfather passed his legacy on to me, and now I would love nothing more than to pass my legacy on to my own kids,” Geronimo muses. Visit him in Old Town Murrieta for a true gentleman’s experience. F

Paint for Good: PRETTY PAINTS’ AUTISM AND THE ARTS INITIATIVE By Katrina McBreen
EVERYONE NEEDS A PASSION—SOMETHING THEY LOVE TO DO THAT OPENS THE DOOR TO THE PERSON THEY TRULY ARE.
For many people, art is that outlet. Local mobile Art Studio, Pretty Paints, provides a place for people to come together to create in a fun atmosphere. They offer incredible Paint & Sip, succulent workshops and other crafty classes and parties all around town—at some of Temecula Valley’s favorite wineries, restaurants, and shops. However, there is so much more to Pretty Paints than wine and canvas. Owner and founder, Crystal McFarlin, is committed to something much larger. When her daughter was diagnosed with autism, her world was turned upside down. In searching for a way to communicate with her daughter, Crystal discovered her daughter’s love for drawing and painting. Once Crystal figured out how to help her daughter communicate her emotions and feelings through art, it was then that she found her life’s greater purpose. She wanted to create a program that would help other children on the spectrum, like her daughter, to use art as a tool for communication and socialization. Pretty Paints Mobile Art Studio was born out of a mother’s love for her daughter, and a devotion to helping the community. Out of Pretty Paints came the Autism and the Arts Initiative—started by Crystal with the help of local autism awareness resource Our Nicholas Foundation—committed to providing a safe and welcoming place for autistic children and their families to learn and practice art. Autism and the Arts Initiative provides free classes for kids on the spectrum. With the hope of encouraging these special children to find a passion and practice socializing with others, these classes are artcentered and always all-inclusive. During the summer, Autism and the Arts Initiative puts on week-long camps throughout the month of July. These camps are free (with a small registration fee) for those with ASD as well as their siblings, family, and friends. Kids experience painting, sculpting, and crafting, and will receive a camp t-shirt as well as an end of month pizza party for all. Details for this year’s camp will be released on the Pretty Paints website on April 1. Just as important for grown-ups as it is for the kids, Pretty Paints many workshops across the valley are open to everyone. Plus, all TEMECULAVALLEYVIBE.COM

Pretty Paints classes, parties, and workshops raise funds for the Autism and the Arts Initiative. So, as you have a great time being creative with friends, you will know you are helping a great cause. Pretty Paints will also be involved in this year’s Balloon and Wine Festival. Present at the festival for all three days, May 29-31, there will be a mobile paints popup tent raising awareness for the program and the local autism community. All funds raised from paint projects over the three-day festival will be donated 100% to the Autism and the Arts Initiative. They will also host a VIP Paint and Sip Party on the second day of the event—which is the perfect place to unwind a little, enjoy a glass, and cool down out of the hot Temecula sun. Tickets and details will be available on Pretty Paints’ social media accounts, so be sure to follow them on Instagram and Facebook (@prettypaintsparty) to stay in the loop. What better way to give back to your community than to enjoy a night of good drinks, good friends, and good fun. As you express your own creative juices, you’ll be helping local kids on the spectrum to find and explore their passions—giving them the tools to express emotions that often get stuck inside. Cleaning House: 4 Tips from a Pro on How to Keep your Home Clean and Tidy For many of us--especially those of us with children, pets, or larger households--keeping the house clean can seem like an ongoing battle. From excessive clutter to dust bunnies in places that rarely see the light of day, we wanted to put together a list of helpful tips and tricks from trusted cleaning professional Nelly Rodriguez of Rodriguez Professional Cleaning Services. INVEST IN A QUALITY CLEANING SERVICE.
Okay, so this one seems like a no-brainer. If you are financially able, investing in a cleaning service at least once a month (but ideally twice a month) will do wonders for your sanity. Let’s face it: we are all busy. Sometimes you just don’t have enough time in a day to get to all the household chores— like dusting, vacuuming, or cleaning toilets and showers. With a quality cleaning service like Rodriguez Professional Cleaning Services, you’ll know that your house will be taken care of and given the squeakyclean love it deserves. “Nelly and her crew are nothing short of fantastic,” local real estate agent Amber Treat mentions, “After having her come out and do such a meticulous job at my home, I felt 100% confident in referring her to all of my clients. She is detail oriented and extremely trustworthy. I recommend Nelly to everyone!”

DE-CLUTTER YO U R S PA C E .
CLEAN AS YO U G O .
E V E R Y B O DY D O YO U R S H A R E .
As the Marie Kondo method swept our country in the past year, millions were inspired to de-clutter and organize their space—and get rid of anything that does not “spark joy”. Not only will this simplify your life, but it will shave countless hours off of your cleaning time! Less stuff means less to clean and less to collect dust. We recommend a yearly (if not monthly) purge. Once you start the process of donating and throwing away things that are not being used, it only gets easier—until it starts to become sort of invigorating. One way to see if your clothes are being worn is to start the year off with all of your hangers switched in the opposite direction. Once you wear the piece, put it away with the hanger facing the usual direction. You will quickly start to see which garments you are actually wearing, and which ones are just taking up space.
For this trick to work, you really need to make it part of your daily life and routine. The basic idea is to clean things as you dirty them. Make wiping down the stove and the counters part of your after-dinner cleaning ritual. Keep a rag under the sink to wipe it out after you’ve brushed your teeth, applied makeup, or performed a hair removal process (really though, this one should be automatic). Little habits like this will add up to far less funky gunk buildup to clean later on.
As a wise purple dinosaur once taught us, “clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere. Clean up, clean up, everybody, do your share.” Barney may be long gone from our televisions, but this golden rule still rings true. It may be harder said than done but instilling good cleaning habits in your little ones—and significant others—will save you a world of trouble later on. Little things, such as making beds before school and clearing plates after mealtime will put your mini-me’s in the “do your share” mindset.

COMMUNITY PARTNERING WITH THE COMMUNITY:
Pala Cares Gives Back by Pax Ansley
The Pala Band of Mission Indians have been a huge part of the Temecula Valley since long before the area was officially “settled”. Made up of what was originally two different tribes—the Cupa and the Luiseño people—the Pala Band of Mission Indians have called Pala home since the early 1900’s. that time, this generous and compassionate group of people have been dedicated to giving back and being involved in the communities that surround them. The Pala Casino Resort & Spa success of Pala Casino Resort and Spa has allowed the tribe to donate millions of dollars to local charities and causes. “Giving back to the community has always been important to the Pala Band of Mission Indians,” says Pala spokesperson, Coley McAvoy. “Partnering with our guests to help others in need is the essence of community and ties perfectly into Pala’s brand of ‘We’re all about you’.” As part of Pala Casino Resort and Spa’s dedication to giving back, their newest fundraiser—the Pala Cares $20,000 Charity Slot Tournament—kicked off in October of 2019 and is confirmed to run into March 2020. This monthly slot tournament is designed to partner with their guests in order to raise money for some of the country’s most beloved charities including the American Heart Association, SUSAN G. KOMEN San Diego Breast Cancer Research, Wounded Warrior Project, Marine Toys for Tots, and the American Red Cross. All entry fees for the tournament are matched by Pala Casino and all proceeds from the event are donated to the selected charity of that month. For the March tournament, proceeds will be donated to the March of Dimes—a national non-profit dedicated to the fight for the health of mothers and babies through advocacy, research, and education. So far, Pala has raised and donated over $45,000 through the tournament since its inception in October. To enter the slot tournament, you can sign up at the casino on the day of the event or call their special events team in advance. For a $20 registration fee, you can join with Pala to have a blast for a good cause— and the opportunity to win up to $20,000 in free play. Through the Pala Cares community outreach initiative, Pala Casino Resort and Spa were also able to partner with a local SAN DIEGO FOOD DRIVE to donate 200 frozen turkeys to families in need over the holidays. Above all, Pala truly does care about their neighbors—be they near or far. F SINCE

here are many motivations that inspire a person to become a realtor. However, when I decided to make that career move, it was for one single reason alone. I believe that every family deserves to have a place to call home. The fact that I am involved in the largest purchase a family will ever make is an honor I truly treasure. I grew up in a small town in Ireland. If you know Ireland, you know it is beautiful, green, and lush—mostly because it rains much of the time. Forty years ago, Ireland was a relatively poor country and many homes were heated with just a small fireplace in the main living area. My two siblings and I were raised by a single mother and suffice it to say that money was tight! Our house was not fancy, yet my mother always managed to create a warm and stable environment, furnished with plenty of love. It’s these beautiful memories that inspired me into the housing sector. Owning a home provides a sense of security to children— and to families. It becomes their foundation and a place to call their own. I sell homes from $200K to over a million—to people from all over the valley—and I feel so completely honored to do that. Hard working families deserve to own a home, but often I ask myself about those who have fallen on
hard times. There are so many barriers in making homeownership possible, and I know that the twists and turns of life often puts families in vulnerable situations. That is why I am so grateful to be able to sit on the Board of Directors and serve as Fundraising Chair for Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley. If you go back to why I became a realtor, the link to Habitat is an obvious one. The organization--a nonprofit affordable housing developer--recently placed a single mom with four boys in a beautiful home in Lake Elsinore. It really warms my heart to have been a part of this and Habitat’s overarching mission: to facilitate the dream of homeownership by providing decent, affordable housing to those in need. Every day, our local affiliate works hard to raise money for projects all over this community. Whether through homeownership, house preservation, education, or by allowing access to low-cost materials—families are

able to improve living conditions right here in Southwest Riverside County. Habitat is on the forefront of solving California’s housing crisis and I am so proud to be a part of that. Literally thousands of people in our community volunteer with Habitat each year. Tasks can include everything from framing a house to performing minor repairs, teaching a class, painting a mobile home, scrutinizing Home Interest List applications, and so much more. When you are surrounded by people who are doing something for the right reasons, it makes every day worthwhile. I truly love what I do! To put it quite simply—when I work with clients, I also reflect on my own personal journey as a child and then as an adult. I know firsthand the impact of homeownership, and it is truly profound. Whether by a traditional sale or by referring families to programs like Habitat for Humanity, I take each client very seriously and I work hard to make it all come together. No matter which route we take, handing over those keys makes the whole thing worthwhile. F
WINE + DINE
Bring Wine Country into Your Home by Tania Reuben
W
it? There are a number of amazing pieces from wine country artists and photographers that will bring that spot alive.
hat is it about wine country that is so enchanting? Maybe it’s the rolling hills striped with vines, misty mornings, or sunsets that literally make you stop what you’re doing and stare. Or perhaps it is seeing the very same view that is ever-changing—and therefore never the same! A friend and I recently made a futile attempt to put our finger on it— what it was exactly about wine country that had us constantly captivated, what made it so universally inviting. Over three million visitors a year flock to the area for a reason. Which then made me wonder…how can we capture just a bit of that magic and bring it into our home? After asking around, careful observation, and some deep thought, here’s what I found!
In the stairwell at my own home, we installed an oversized chandelier made from recycled wine barrel staves. We also have a few wine racks that complement our décor—while at the same time provide a much-needed spot to store wine in waiting. Outside, we have a couple pairs of wine stave Adirondack chairs, but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect cork saver for the dry bar!
Other pieces inspired by wine country include wine stave art, rustic wood cutting boards, wine stave bowls and platters, cork savers, and wine racks of all shapes and sizes. So, the question becomes: where can you find all of these decorative touches? Luckily, Old Town Temecula has a number of beautiful locally owned shops to meander through. Or, give yourself an excuse to venture into wine country to check out the winery gift shops—filled with hand-made wares from local artists. Be sure to check out the artisan pop-up markets in wine country, Old Town, Vail Headquarters, and Galway Downs (you’ll find events like these posted in the Wine Country Living Group on Facebook or in the TVV calendar!).
SET THE SCENE
There are a number of accessories for your home that will add a little wine country flair—but use caution and don’t go overboard—or else you’ll go from stylish to tacky in a hurry! After studying interior design in two countries, I do have some tips to make it work for your space. 1. Work with the style you’ve created for your home. It’s easy to LOVE an item and leave it because it won’t work in your individual space.
WINE CLUBS
If you really want to bring wine country home with you, join a few wine clubs during your visit! Long after the vistas have faded from your memory, you’ll be reminded of your adventures in wine country with every shipment that arrives. You’ll find yourself bringing bottles to friends’ homes and sharing your adventures with them too—and maybe even plan a trip together! F
2. Bring something in, set something free. Chances are— unless you’re starting with a blank canvas—if you only keep adding, you’ll end up with cluttered instead of chic. 3. Bring wine country to your walls! Maybe you’ve got a few empty spaces, or maybe you’ve got a few pieces that just don’t seem to “spark joy” in your life—how much more meaningful would it be if that focal point had a story behind
Wine Staves:
large planks or thick sticks of oak that are added to wine juice in steel barrels before or after fermentation to deliver oaked characteristics to the wine.

BOND WITH THE BARD:
GETTING INVOLVED with
SHAKESPEARE IN THE VINES B Y:
PAX
ANSLEY
THE VERY DEFINITION OF COMMUNITY DESCRIBES A
sense of togetherness—“a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals”. There is nothing quite like theater to bring a group of strangers together to have them embark on a journey of human experience and imagination. While the audience sits without speaking a word to one another, there is a sensation of camaraderie as they laugh, cry, or even gasp in surprise at the story unfolding on the stage. Local theater group Shakespeare in the Vines brings all walks of life together encouraging our community to come and experience the root of humanity, always remembering that we are all in this story together. Preston Helms, the new artistic director of Shakespeare in the Vines, welcomes one and all to come experience their performances. “Theater is absolutely needed in our society. We provide an environment to express feelings and emotions— to relate to each other and enjoy each other’s company—it fulfills a longing for connection that is so common in our technology-driven culture.” Watching a theatrical performance is the perfect conversation starter. It can teach an audience to listen to communication, be it verbal or non-verbal. Shakespeare in the Vines is also the perfect way to get involved in the community. Volunteer as an usher or a front of house escort to help your neighbors to their seats, or if you feel the call of the bard—Shakespeare in the Vines is holding auditions for their 2020 season in late March! Of course, if time is an issue, they are always in need of financial donations as well to fund their performances. Email the team at askthebardtoday@gmail.com or visit their website for more information on getting involved. F

TEMECULA VALLEY VINE
Oak Mountain Winery by Katrina McBreen
OAK MOUNTAIN WINERY (951) 699-9102 36522 VIA VERDE TEMECULA, CA 92592 OAKMOUNTAINWINERY.COM
in Temecula Wine Country, you are bound to notice the beautifully timeless winery on a hill—complete with luscious grapes vines growing over the top of subterranean caves. Oak Mountain Winery is home to Southern California’s only mined wine caves. With incredible views of wine country from atop their hill, this winery is a family owned local favorite that has been serving visitors to the valley since 2005. Known for their classic, warm weather Mediterranean grape varietals, owner Steve and Valerie Andrews have produced over 30 award winning wines since their winery’s inception. Tours and tastings are offered daily in their truly unique wine caves, and their pup-friendly Cave Café and patio is open to grab a bite while you sip. Their caves and vistas are also the absolute perfect backdrop for a fairytale wedding or unforgettable event. You could say that wine runs in Valerie’s blood—but not in the way that you’d think. Her father and uncle were partners in one of Southern California’s pioneer wine shops. After her father arranged for Valerie and her husband Steve to take a tour of some of Santa Barbara’s wine country, they were hooked. As the couple proudly remembers, “Winemakers were born that day.” Their winemaking journey began in 2000 when they opened up their Temecula Hills Estate—the location of their beautiful home—for part-time wine tastings under the Temecula Hills Estate wine label. With grapes grown on their bountiful vineyards, their wine collection created quite a buzz around town. With the demand for longer tasting room hours and more space, a second location—Oak Mountain Winery—was opened in 2005. When the Andrews and their loyal wine lovers began to grow out of that space as well, they decided that the only place left to go was in. The idea behind their mined wine caves is simple. Work with the land to create the ideal conditions to age wine—and to enjoy it! With geothermal technology, cave temperatures and humidity always stay within an ideal range—with no sunlight variable to affect the barrels. Once Oak Mountain Winery’s vineyards were up and ready to go, winemaker Steve had a whole new crop of vines to work with under the Oak Mountain Winery label. Their Temecula Hills Oak Mountain Wine Clubs, as well as their tasting room, offer varietals grown on both properties. With different wine club levels to suit your tastes, needs, and price point, Oak Mountain’s Wine Club also offers a unique Avocado Oil and Vinegar club for the foodie in you. Known for their strawberry and raspberry sparkling wines as well as the very rare Pinotage varietal, Oak Mountain is the perfect place to come play for the day and experience all of what the De Portola Wine Trail has to offer. Once you emerge from their amazing caves, be sure to check out their temperature-controlled pavilion to take in the incredible views while you enjoy a tasting. Stop by on Sundays for live music! F
PINOTAGE: a South African grape varietal that is very rare in the US. For Temecula wine country, it can only be found at Oak Mountain!
