THE TENNESSEAN
Three rustic homes packed with modern amenities Âť HOUSE FROM 1H
...for being Awarded Top Residential Agent for Bob Parks Realty in 2011. “Thank you for your loyalty and support for the last 17 years.
House still isn’t sure whether Reba was serious or joking, but she was startled by the size of his catfish, which he handfeeds from buckets of grain, and worried that they were too fat to live in his pond. “One of the catfish swam up, and she said, ‘Gerry, you’ve got to get those fish out of there. They’re too big,’ House recalled. He declined to remove the fish, but he could have without any trouble. House’s Pegram Palace was originally designed as a fish farm. All of the ponds can be quickly drained and the fish can be collected for the table or, if the next owner shares Reba’s sympathies, relocation to a larger environment. “You can catch dinner off the back porch, but they’re like pets. Half of them have names, House said.
No traffic, no noise Over the years, House has made numerous improvements on the proper-

voltage exterior lighting. But those aren’t the reasons House and Allyson kept coming back after buying the place in 1998. There’s no traffic. The only nearby highway, River Road, is at least a mile away. There are no city lights to dim the stars in the night sky. On a recent visit, guests could see the tracks of raccoons on the steps leading to a pond, where they probably went hunting for some of House’s pet fish. The only sounds the next owners will hear are crickets and water rushing through the spillways into the creek — unless, of course, they convince House to include his guitar and keyboard in the sale price. House imagines the next owner will discover the quiet solitude that always restored his energy for the next show or the next song. “You go through that gate and shut the door, House said. “It’s so Zen when you’re out there. Contact Bill Lewis at 615-2625862 or wlewis77229@comcast.net.

ty, remodeling the two homes that were already there and building the one he uses as his writing studio. It features a living room that could double as a bedroom, and a private office with room for a desk, a guitar and an electric keyboard. A sign in the window offers a humorous warning: “No trespassing. Violators will be shot. Survivors will be shot again. The property is also larger than when House found it. Disturbed that he did not own a nearby ridge top overlooking the compound, he immediately set out to buy it. “We have what we call the ‘nudity barrier,’ he said. “You own as far as you can see. The homes vary in size. The two-bedroom main house is 1,185 square feet. The smallest is 400 square feet. The one House uses as a writing studio has 680 square feet. Each of the rusticlooking houses comes complete with modern amenities including heating and air-conditioning, satellite flat-screen televisions, indoor-outdoor speaker systems and low
