The Tennis Europe Junior Masters took place from 13-15 October in Monte-Carlo, Monaco. The Top 8 European boys and girls aged 14 and 16 & Under battled for the prestigious season-ending championships, which were hosted by the Monegasque Tennis Federation for the first time. Former winners of the event include the likes of Rafa Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Kim Clijsters and Belinda Bencic. On the eve of the competition, the players were joined by rising star Holger Rune for a special edition of the Junior School. The youngsters took the opportunity to ask questions about the former Junior Masters silver medallist’s transition from top junior to ATP Pro. Matches were streamed live for viewers of Tennis Channel international (Austria, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, UK), and broadcast on Monaco Info in the host nation.

14&U girls’ winner Laura Samsonova celebrates.

Day 1 of the competition saw ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi among the spectators. He told us: “I have to say I am impressed. These kids are playing a tremendous level. They look very professional and I like the way they behave on court from an early age. There is more attention to the mental aspects and the psychology behind the sport. It’s impressive, and I’m looking forward to seeing these guys become champions in the future.” The unique format of the Junior Masters meant that all 32 competitors played on all three days. While the eight finalists are battling for gold medals, the rest of the players were still scrapping for pride and ranking points. The final day saw Marko Maksimovic become the first ever player from Bosnia & Herzegovina to win a Junior Masters title, battling to a 7-5 6-3 win over Slovakian Michal Krajci. With the win, Maksimovic ended his Junior Tour season with four titles, a win/loss record of 22/3,

Centenary Tennis Clubs Update In October, the Association of Centenary Tennis Clubs celebrated its first event since the beginning of the pandemic when four European clubs met for a seniors competition in Barcelona, Spain. Villa Primrose (FRA) won the competition with a resounding 8/1 opening victory over the team from Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club (GBR) in the final. Earlier the champions beat hosts RC Polo by the slimmest of margins, the 5/4 win taking them through to the final. Polo went on to beat Circolo de Bologna (ITA) 6/3 to secure third place overall.

The organisation also held its Annual General Meeting recently, with member clubs attending virtually. CTC President Jordi Cambra opened the meeting by highlighting the importance of the Association and stressed the need to define a future strategy that maintains the traditional tennis activities of the CTC, the sharing of good practices among the member clubs and the promotion of the values of the sport at a social level. To this end, work will be done to obtain the necessary support for the development of the areas of marketing and communications, as well as the structural needs required for the constant growth of the Association. Three new clubs were welcomed as members of the Association: Templeogue Tennis Club, Ireland, Tennis Club Venezia, Italy and Naas Lawn Tennis Club, Ireland. This brings the total number of clubs to 80 in 4 continents. The Association of Centenary Tennis Clubs is an umbrella group of clubs that have more than 100 years of history and includes some of the most prestigious and bestknown clubs in the sport. Initially founded by eight members as a pan-European association, the CTC now has an extensive and truly global membership, is affiliated to Tennis Europe and recognised by the sport’s governing body, the International Tennis Federation.

Tennis Europe Junior Tour Rankings - 14 & Under Tennis Europe’s junior ranking system is devised to give a unified overall list that shows the relative strengths of all players, regardless of where they achieved their results or picked up points. A player’s overall total includes points from Tennis Europe Junior Tour 16 and 14 & Under events, plus points earned by players in these age categories who participate in ITF Junior Circuit and professional tournaments, all of which are weighted according to their relative strengths. The 14 &

14 & Under Boys Rank

Under ranking is still available separately, as well as being integrated to the overall rankings. For more information on the rankings system, check out the Tennis Europe Junior Tour Rules and Regulations at www.TennisEurope.org. The ‘Race to the Masters’ rankings are also available separately, and include points earned exclusively at Tennis Europe Junior Tour events. Rankings below are as of Tuesday 14th December, 2021.
