Third Eye Blind Returns with “Summer Gods Tour 2024”

Third Eye Blind is back and ready to make waves this summer with their highly anticipated “Summer Gods Tour 2024.” Produced by Live Nation, this tour marks the fourth edition of the beloved “Summer Gods” series and promises an unforgettable experience for fans. The tour will make a much-anticipated stop at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on August 3, 2024, featuring special guests Yellowcard and A R I Z O N A.

“I have this sense that I am feeling the same way everybody else is—that we need a summer tour so badly, like more than ever,” says lead singer Stephan Jenkins. “We need the lights, the noise, the heat, and everybody up close to each other, singing as one. Can’t wait.”

A little over a year after their 2023 “25 Years in the Blind Tour,” alternative rock band Third Eye Blind is ready to hit the road again, bringing their energetic performances and timeless hits to audiences across North America. The tour kicks off in June 2024 and will run through the summer, culminating in a series of spectacular shows.

Upon releasing their self-titled debut album in April 1997, Third Eye Blind quickly rose to fame. The band’s biggest hit, “Semi-Charmed Life,” won a Billboard Music Award for Best Modern Rock Track, and its accompanying music video became a staple on MTV. The debut album was a massive success, eventually being certified six times platinum by the RIAA. The band’s extensive touring schedule, which included opening for legendary acts such as U2 and The Rolling Stones, further solidified their status in the rock music scene.

“Third Eye Blind’s self-titled is a masterclass in songwriting that blew all of our minds when it released in 1997,” says Ryan Key of Yellowcard. “As 90s kids, we were gifted with so much incredible music in our formative years, and we are all such massive fans of the band because of that record. It doesn’t feel real yet that we will be sharing the stage with one of our alltime favorite bands every night this summer.”

“Third Eye Blind was the soundtrack to so many summer adventures during high school!” adds Nate Esquite of A R I Z O N A. “My friends and I would drive up and down the NJ Parkway blasting ‘SemiCharmed Life’ out the windows and

dreaming about one day playing PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel as we passed. To be a part of this tour is a dream come true in so many ways - being able to sing our hearts out to 3EB every night and playing so many incredible venues along the way.”

Formed in 1993, Third Eye Blind hails from San Francisco, where singer Stephan Jenkins made his name as a solo musician after earning an English degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Jenkins soon decided to piece a band together. After several lineups failed to gel, former Fungo Mungo bassist Arion Salazar joined the group, which Jenkins had named Third Eye Blind (in reference to the metaphysical concept of a mind’s eye). At one of the band’s early shows, guitarist Kevin Cadogan—a former student of Joe Satriani who later became involved in the northern California ska and punk scenes— introduced himself to Jenkins. Cadogan subsequently joined Third Eye Blind in late 1995, bringing along former Counting Crows drummer Brad Hargreaves as well.

As Third Eye Blind worked on cementing their sound, Jenkins began earning major-label attention through his

production of the Braids’ cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which became an international hit. He signed a publishing deal shortly afterward, reported to be the largest such deal ever presented to an unreleased artist. Meanwhile, Third Eye Blind cultivated a dedicated fan base by playing the Bay Area frequently, and the group’s original 14-song demo attracted attention from major labels. The buzz continued to build when the musicians finagled their way into a prized opening slot for Oasis’ April 1996 concert at the Civic Auditorium. The group was still unsigned at the time, but following their well-received performance (which included an encore—a rare accolade for an opening band), Third Eye Blind became the subject of a bidding war.

The band eventually signed with Elektra/Asylum, a label that afforded them a considerable degree of artistic freedom. Jenkins was tapped as their producer and received a production deal to help develop new groups, but his top priority remained Third Eye Blind. With Jenkins handling production duties, the band recorded their eponymous debut in San Francisco with the assistance of Eric Valentine, an engineer who had also worked on their early demos. The self-titled Third Eye Blind was released in the spring of 1997; by that summer, the introductory single “Semi-Charmed Life” had become a charttopping modern rock hit. Spawning several more successful singles (including “How’s It Going to Be” and “Jumper”), the album broke into the Billboard Top 200 and remained there for over a year, establishing Third Eye Blind as one of the most popular bands of the late ’90s.

Following the success of their debut, the band released their sophomore effort, “Blue,” in 1999. The album sold 150,000 copies within a month of its release and was heralded by fans as the band’s strongest album. Although only one song, “Never Let You Go,” matched the success of their past singles, the album continued to build on the band’s reputation. Tours across the globe followed throughout 2000, but by the time 2001 rolled around, the group had lost a crucial member (guitarist Kevin Cadogan, who co-wrote much of their material before exiting the lineup) and opted for some time off. Tony Fredianelli soon climbed aboard as the band’s

replacement guitarist, and Third Eye Blind turned their attention to several charity events. They played shows in support of the Tiger Woods Foundation and helped organize Breathe, a performance that promoted breast cancer awareness.

By 2003, Third Eye Blind resumed their schedule with the release of their third studio album, “Out of the Vein.” Featuring the single “Blinded,” the record initially debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart. Nonetheless, due in part to poor marketing, a side effect of Elektra’s merger with Atlantic, “Out of the Vein” ultimately failed to ignite the same commercial sparks as its predecessor. Undeterred, the band quickly began work on a follow-up, but Jenkins’ lengthy battle with writer’s block slowed the production. In the interim, they released a 2006 best-of compilation and continued to tour. Finally, on the heels of the group’s tour of Japan in 2008, they released the digital EP “Red Star,” featuring the single “Non-Dairy Creamer.”

The following year, Third Eye Blind returned with their long-awaited fourth album, “Ursa Major.” Produced by Jenkins and released on the band’s own Mega Collider Records, the set hit number three on the Billboard 200, buoyed by the singles “Don’t Believe a Word” and “Bonfire.” At the end of the group’s tour in 2010, they parted ways with Fredianelli, who was replaced by Irish guitarist Kryz Reid. Over the next several years, the band continued to tour and work on new material. A free digital single, “If There Ever Was a Time,” released in support of the Occupy Wall Street Movement, appeared in 2011. In 2015, they released their fifth studio album, “Dopamine.” Once again produced by Jenkins, the record was the first with bassist Alex LeCavalier, who’d joined as a full-time member in 2013. It also returned them to the Billboard 200, where it cracked the Top 20.

In March 2016, Third Eye Blind garnered attention for remarks Jenkins made criticizing the Republican Party while playing a benefit show for the charity organization “Musicians on Call” at Cleveland’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. While not technically a political event, the show was held in close proximity to the Republican National Convention, with Republicans in attendance. The following October, the band released “We Are Drugs,” an EP featuring covers of songs that TEB find inspirational.

Third Eye Blind returned in October 2019 with “Screamer,” a stylized, modernized collection of original material that was recorded in part with Billy Corgan, who functioned as the album’s “musical

consigliere.” The group’s seventh LP, “Our Bande Apart,” arrived in September 2021 and featured a guest appearance by Best Coast’s Bethany Consentino on the single “Again.”

In June 2017, frontman Stephan Jenkins announced plans to release an EP titled “Summer Gods” to coincide with the tour of the same name. While the EP wasn’t ready for release by the end of the tour, the name was given to a live album release of performances from the tour. The “Summer Gods Tour” has since become a beloved tradition for fans, returning in 2019 and 2022, and now gearing up for its fourth edition in 2024.

The “Summer Gods Tour 2024” is more than just a concert series; it’s a celebration of the band’s legacy and their connection with fans. Stephan Jenkins’ vision for the tour reflects a desire to create a communal experience, where fans can come together, enjoy the music, and relive the memories that Third Eye Blind’s songs have created over the years.

As the band prepares to take the stage at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on August 3, 2024, anticipation is building for what promises to be a night of unforgettable performances. Fans can expect to hear all their favorite hits, from “Semi-Charmed Life” and “Jumper” to “How’s It Going to Be” and “Never Let You Go,” along with newer material that continues to push the boundaries of their sound.

Third Eye Blind’s enduring appeal lies in their ability to create music that resonates with listeners on a deep, emotional level. Their songs capture the highs and lows of life, offering a sense of catharsis and connection that few bands can match. The “Summer Gods Tour 2024” is an opportunity for fans to experience this magic live, to sing along with the band, and to be part of a collective celebration of music, memories, and the unbreakable bond between artist and audience.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of this incredible journey. Mark your calendars for August 3, 2024, and get ready to join Third Eye Blind, Yellowcard, and A R I Z O N A for a night of music, energy, and pure rock and roll at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The “Summer Gods Tour 2024” is set to be one of the highlights of the summer, a testament to the enduring power of live music and the timeless appeal of Third Eye Blind.

Cage The Elephant Emerges from Their Cage: Neon Pill Tour and Album Release Announced

Cage The Elephant is back and ready to unleash their electrifying energy across North America with their highly anticipated ‘Neon Pill Tour.’ From June through September, the alt-rockers will embark on a sprawling 45-concert journey, bringing their signature sound and cathartic performances to fans nationwide. This tour supports their upcoming sixth studio album, “Neon Pill,” which shares its name with the tour and marks a significant new chapter in the band’s storied career.

The ‘Neon Pill Tour’ is not just a series of concerts; it’s a celebration of resilience, growth, and artistic rebirth. Special guests Young The Giant and Bakar will join Cage The Elephant on select dates, adding to the excitement and ensuring that each show is a unique experience. One of the most eagerly awaited performances will take place on July 12th at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas. This iconic venue will serve as the perfect stage for what promises to be an unforgettable night of music, emotion, and connection.

Lead singer Matthew Shultz described the emotional depth behind “Neon Pill,” an album crafted following a series of traumatic events, including

the passing of his father. “With this album, having gone through so much, life had almost forced us into becoming more and more comfortable with ourselves,” Shultz said in a statement. “We weren’t reaching for much outside of the pure experience of self-expression, and simultaneously not necessarily settling either. We just found a uniqueness in simply existing.”

Since forming in 2006, Cage The Elephant has been a beacon of creativity and innovation in the rock music scene. Their uncompromising artistry and wildly cathartic performances have earned them a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim. The band’s discography boasts numerous Gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum certifications, over 5 billion streams, and a series of charttopping hits. They have achieved ten #1 records on Alternative Radio and five #1 records on Triple A Radio. The band’s accolades also include two GRAMMY® Awards for Best Rock Album, one for “Tell Me I’m Pretty” (2015) and another for “Social Cues” (2019).

Cage The Elephant’s impact on popular culture is undeniable. Their music has been featured in various media, from the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game to the Amazon Prime campaign, and the hit series “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Their ability to

inspire millions, whether through TikTok creations or sharing the stage with legends like Dave Grohl, Iggy Pop, and Beck, highlights their unique position in the rock landscape.

The Kentucky-bred six-piece band, composed of Matt Shultz, Brad Shultz, Jared Champion, Lincoln Parish, and Daniel Tichenor, has always relied on their enduring bond as both musicians and friends. Together, they navigate life’s unpredictability and channel their experiences into music. Their journey is marked by moments of elation, expressed through infectious hooks and swaggering rhythms, as well as introspection, conveyed through tense riffs and jittery grooves.

Cage The Elephant’s story began with their 2008 self-titled debut album, which featured the hit single “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked.” The song quickly became a transatlantic hit, propelling the band into the spotlight. Their subsequent albums, “Thank You Happy Birthday” (2011) and “Melophobia” (2013), solidified their place in the rock pantheon. “Thank You Happy Birthday” debuted at number two on the album charts, thanks in part to the hit “Shake Me Down.” “Melophobia” continued the band’s upward trajectory, featuring

collaborations with Alison Mosshart (The Kills, The Dead Weather) and the modern rock radio hit “Come a Little Closer.”

During the Melophobia era, Cage The Elephant parted ways with their founding guitarist, Lincoln Parish, who transitioned to a career as a producer for other artists in Nashville. Despite this lineup change, the band continued to evolve and innovate. In late 2015, they released their fourth album, “Tell Me I’m Pretty,” produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. The album’s success was undeniable, earning the band their first GRAMMY® Award for Best Rock Album in 2017. The ensemble embarked on both nationwide and European tours, captivating audiences with their dynamic performances.

In early 2017, Cage The Elephant offered fans a more intimate experience with a series of stripped-down, unplugged shows around the United States.

These performances spanned their entire back catalog and were captured in their second live release, “Unpeeled,” which arrived in the summer of 2017. The band’s ability to connect with audiences on a deeply personal level was further showcased in these raw and powerful shows.

Cage The Elephant returned in 2019 with “Social Cues,” an album heavily influenced by Matt Shultz’s divorce. Exploring dark emotions and complex themes, the album was produced by John Graham Hill and included the singles “Ready to Let Go” and “Night Running,” featuring Beck. “Social Cues” became the band’s second straight album to win the GRAMMY®

for Best Rock Album, solidifying their status as one of the most important rock bands of their generation.

After contributing a cover of “The Unforgiven” to “The Metallica Blacklist” tribute album in 2021, Cage The Elephant reunited with Hill to record “Neon Pill” at Texas’ Sonic Ranch studios. The album’s lead single quickly became the group’s 11th single to reach number one on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay charts, setting the stage for the band’s triumphant return.

Cage The Elephant’s evolution from their early days in Kentucky to

becoming a staple of modern rock is a testament to their resilience and dedication. Their debut album, featuring the breakout hit “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” set the stage for their success. The band’s relentless touring schedule, including appearances at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, helped them build a loyal fanbase. Their sophomore album, “Thank You Happy Birthday,” debuted at number two on the Billboard charts, propelled by hits like “Shake Me Down.”

The release of “Melophobia” in 2013 marked another milestone in the band’s career. The album showcased their willingness to experiment and push boundaries, resulting in critical acclaim and commercial success. Collaborations with artists like Alison Mosshart added depth to their sound, and tracks like “Come a Little Closer” became anthems for fans.

The departure of founding guitarist Lincoln Parish could have been a

setback, but Cage The Elephant continued to thrive. Their fourth album, “Tell Me I’m Pretty,” produced by Dan Auerbach, earned them their first GRAMMY® Award. The band’s ability to evolve while staying true to their roots has been key to their enduring appeal.

“Social Cues,” released in 2019, was a deeply personal album for Matt Shultz, influenced by his divorce. The album’s raw emotion resonated with fans and critics alike, earning the band their second GRAMMY® Award. Tracks like “Ready to Let Go” and “Night Running” featuring Beck showcased the band’s ability to blend introspection with energetic rock.

The recording of “Neon Pill” at Sonic Ranch studios marked a return to their roots while also reflecting the band’s growth and resilience. The album’s lead single quickly topped the Billboard Alternative Airplay charts, signaling a strong comeback. Fans can expect “Neon Pill” to be a powerful

exploration of themes such as loss, healing, and self-discovery.

Cage The Elephant’s journey from their beginnings in Kentucky to their current status as rock icons is a story of perseverance and passion. Their music has not only topped charts but also touched the lives of millions. Their ability to connect with fans through their honest and powerful performances has solidified their place in rock history.

As Cage The Elephant prepares to hit the road for the ‘Neon Pill Tour,’ fans eagerly anticipate the emotional and musical journey that awaits. The combination of the band’s dynamic stage presence, introspective new album, and the energy of their loyal fanbase promises to make this tour one of the most memorable in recent history. Don’t miss the chance to witness Cage The Elephant live on July 12th at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and experience the magic of “Neon Pill” firsthand. This tour is not just a series of concerts; it’s a celebration of the band’s resilience, creativity, and enduring connection with their fans.

The Glam Rock Revival Storms Into Houston The Struts

The Struts

Get ready Houston, because the biggest, brashest, and most bodacious rock n’ roll revivalists are coming to the House of Blues on July 23rd. The Struts, the flamboyant modern glam rock torchbearers, will be bringing their arena-sized riffs, singalong anthems, and Freddie Mercury-esque stage swagger to Space City for a summer spectacle simply not to be missed.

For over a decade now, frontman Luke Spiller and his cohorts have been leading a resounding charge to resurrect the spirited, groove-laden sound of classic 70s-era British rock. With inspirations spanning from Queen’s majestic bombast to the snarling attitude of The Libertines, The Struts forge a thrilling modern fusion of vintage glam and contemporary pop/rock energy that has seen them hailed as “glamorous and dangerous” and harbingers of “a real rock revival.”

“We’re unabashedly over-the-top and retro-fetishist, but with an impeccably modern edge,” says Spiller. “Our music pays tribute to the timeless classics that inspired us, while also aiming to spark renewed excitement for this storied genre in a new generation of fans.”

That mission will be on full display when The Struts roar into Houston in support of their latest album Pretty Vicious. Released in late 2023 on Big Machine Records, the LP represents the band’s most potent distillation yet of their signature explosive sound and vision - a dizzying, hooks-laden ride of crunchy riffs, preening vocals, and swaggering rhythms.

From the skyscraping vocals and fat riffage of lead single “Breakout” to the slinking, seductive grooves of “Hard Work” and the punchy pop stomp of “Bang This,” Pretty Vicious doubles down on everything that’s made The Struts a worldwide arenapacking phenomenon over the past decade. Creating the album with producer Julian Raymond (The Pretty Reckless, Bully) allowed the band to seamlessly blend their 70s glam and classic rock influences with a modern sheen and punch.

“This record really showcases each individual member’s strengths while staying true to our core DNA as a band,” explains Spiller. “The riffs are massive, the hooks are undeniable, and we really poured everything we had into making it an electrifying listening experience from front to back. It’s some of my favorite music, hands down, that we’ve ever created - the record everyone’s been waiting for from The Struts.”

Houston fans will get to hear those new rock n’ roll ballet bangers from Pretty Vicious alongside Struts’ classics and greatest hits spanning their entire decade-plus career. From their breakout 2014 single “Could Have Been Me” which first sparked international

buzz around their unabashedly flamboyant and retro-leaning sound, to swaggering grooves like “Body Talks” off their 2018 album Young & Dangerous, this will be a full-scale celebration of the group’s revivalist vision and mission to “keep rock n’ roll alive and well.”

Speaking of celebration, The Struts have had plenty of reasons to revel lately beyond their latest acclaimed album cycle. In recent years, the band was handpicked to open massive stadium tours for legendary rock icons like the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, and Guns N’ Roses - a testament to their massive crossover appeal and staggering live prowess.

Dave Grohl himself gushed about The Struts impact, declaring: “They are the best band we have ever had supporting us....ever!” Even Rock N’ Roll royalty like Mick Jagger has lauded them as “a breath of fresh air.”

Beyond sharing bills with rock’s most esteemed legends, Spiller and company have also earned esteem through high-profile collaborations with esteemed artists like Kesha, Tom Morello, Robbie Williams, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, and even a team-up with Paris Jackson called “Low Key in Love.”

However, beyond the star-studded affiliations and hard-earned accolades, what keeps driving The Struts is a profound love and appreciation for the showmanship, flamboyance, and pure euphoric rush of classic rock n’ roll. Spiller commands the stage like Freddie Mercury reborn, channeling rock’s golden eras through his outrageous skintight jumpsuits, soaring vocals, and boundless charisma and swagger.

The musicianship is equally inspired, with driving rhythms from Jed Elliott on bass and Gethin Davies’ thunderous drumming matched by Adam Slack’s lightning bolt sixstring pyrotechnics, blazing solos, and meaty power chords. When this quartet locks in with their arena-sized grooves and walls of singalong choruses, it’s an electrifying torrent of sound true to rock’s 1970s bombast and glory.

As Spiller proclaims: “We’re bringing that untamed, raucous nature of our live

shows and fusing it into our most exciting songs to date with Pretty Vicious. When we hit Houston, fans are going to get the full force of this new album alongside all the anthems they already know and love. It’s going to be an unforgettable celebration of real, unabashed rock n’ roll.”

The recent runaway success of film hits like the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis has proven that audiences are still hungry for the thrills of old-school, flamboyant, theatrical rock. Music pundits have widely praised The Struts as the most viable torchbearers to satisfy that insatiable appetite.

As Rolling Stone writer Andy Greene declared: “The Struts are pretty much the only band in years to effectively channel Freddie Mercury and Queen in both their look and sound. When they take the stage, it’s like Queen never left.”

On July 23rd, the House of Blues in Houston will be ground zero for experiencing the full force of this modern glam revival. The Struts’ potent combination of searing musicianship, singalong hooks, larger-thanlife showmanship, and boundless infectious energy is simply not to be missed.

Their recent ascent feels reminiscent of Queen’s own trajectory from hungry upstarts to arena-slaying juggernauts, fueled by their undeniable songs and Spiller’s uncanny ability to command any size stage. As the frontman insists, it’s all about keeping the spirit of real, untamed, flamboyant rock n’ roll alive and well in the 21st century.

“We give absolutely everything we have to our live performances because that’s where the magic happens,” Spiller states emphatically. “When we hit Houston, fans are going to experience the exhilaration of rock n’ roll’s glory days but revved up for a new era. The Struts are all about letting our freak flags fly and transporting people to a state of true rock euphoria. Just wait’ll you see what we have in store!”

Consider Houston’s House of Blues duly warned - The Struts are coming to blow the roof off with their explosive modern glam rock manifesto. The revolution will most definitely be revived on July 23rd.

Conjunto Primavera to Perform at Houston’s Arena Theater on July 5th

Fans of norteño music are in for a treat as the legendary Conjunto Primavera is set to take the stage at the Arena Theater in Houston on July 5th. The multi-Latin Grammy-winning group from Chihuahua, Mexico, known for their romantic and stylistically unique sound, will be bringing their infectious melodies and heartfelt lyrics to the Bayou City for an unforgettable night of music.

Founded by saxophonist Juan Dominguez in 1978, Conjunto Primavera has been a driving force in the norteño scene for over four decades. The group’s name, which translates to “Spring Ensemble,” is a nod to their formation on the first day of spring, March 21st. From their early days performing in local venues throughout Chihuahua, the band has grown to become one of the most acclaimed and influential acts in the genre.

Conjunto Primavera’s sound is a captivating blend of traditional northern Mexican folk music, rancheras, boleros, and ballads, infused with elements of vintage doo-wop and rhythm and blues. This unique combination has set them apart from their contemporaries and has been a key factor in their enduring success. The band’s current lineup

features the talented Tony Meléndez on vocals, Oscar Ochoa on bass, Félix Antonio Contreras on accordion and electric keyboards, Manuel Rolando Pérez on bajo sexto, Francisco “Frank” Mata on electric bass, and Adrian Anthony Regalado on drums.

The group’s early recordings, released on the independent regional Mexican label Joey Records, laid the foundation for their future success. However, it was their 1993 album “Me Nortie,” released on AFG Sigma Records, that proved to be their breakthrough. This newfound popularity led to a transition to the prominent Fonovisa label in the mid-1990s, a move that would significantly boost their profile and cement their status as one of the leading acts in the norteño scene.

Under the Fonovisa banner, Conjunto Primavera released a string of highly successful albums, including the platinum-certified “Necesito Decirte” in 1998, which sold over a million copies. Subsequent releases, such as “Morir de Amor” (2000), “Ansia de Amar” (2001), and “Perdoname Mi Amor” (2002), consistently achieved gold status, selling over half a million copies each. The band’s commercial success was matched by critical acclaim, with regular Latin Grammy nominations and a win in 2006 for Best Regional Mexican Song for

“Aún Sigues Siendo Mía.”

The accolades continued to pour in for Conjunto Primavera throughout the 2010s. In 2014, they won the Latin Grammy for Best Norteño Album for “Amor Amor” at the 15th Annual Latin Grammy Awards. The band’s albums consistently charted at or near the top of the Regional Mexican Albums charts, and their singles enjoyed similar success. The group’s rigorous touring schedule further solidified their status as one of the most beloved acts in the genre.

After a brief hiatus, Conjunto Primavera returned in 2017 with the studio album “Con Toda la Fuerza,” followed by “Lo Más Escuchado De” in 2019. The latter, a collection of new and re-recorded romantic songs, featured the charting single “Si Te Vuelvo A Ver,” which was released in early 2020.

As the band prepares to take the stage at the Arena Theater in Houston, fans can expect a night filled with Conjunto Primavera’s greatest hits, as well as new material that showcases their continued evolution and relevance in the norteño scene. The group’s ability to connect with audiences through their heartfelt lyrics and infectious melodies has been a hallmark of their career, and their live performances are known for their energy and passion.

The July 5th concert is a testament to Conjunto Primavera’s enduring popularity and the universal appeal of their music. The Summer Slaughter Returns to Crush Houston

The Summer Slaughter Returns to Crush Houston

After a four-year absence, the most extreme and highly anticipated touring festival of the summer metal season is finally back - the Summer Slaughter tour is returning in full force and making a brutal stop in Houston on July 25th at Warehouse Live. This year’s mammoth 21-date run across the U.S. will be co-headlined by two of the heaviest and most brutal acts in modern metal - the djent-fused metalcore titans Veil of Maya and the deathcore anime obsessives Brand of Sacrifice.

For long-time fans of the Summer Slaughter tour, having the progressive metal juggernaut Veil of Maya as coheadliners is a full circle moment. The Chicago-based band first surfaced in 2004, merging deathcore brutality with elements of djent, hardcore, and proficient musicality. They played the very first edition of the Summer Slaughter tour back in 2007 in the opening slot as an unknown upstart act.

Over 15 years later, Veil of Maya have climbed their way up through the ranks of heavy music to stake their claim as co-leaders of this year’s stacked bill. Their most recent album, 2023’s [m]other, saw them further embrace djent’s distinctive palm-muted grooves while retaining their unique penchant for technicality and fusing aggression with melody.

“It’s an absolute honor to be back on the Summer Slaughter tour,” said Veil of Maya guitarist Marc Okubo. “This tour has been responsible for some of my favorite memories of playing music and some of

Veil Of Maya

my greatest friendships over the years. This year’s lineup is amazing and I can’t wait to share the stage with these incredible bands.”

Joining Veil of Maya as co-headliners is the awe-inspiring technical deathcore unit Brand of Sacrifice. Formed in 2018, this trio was born from the members’ shared love of the cult anime/manga series Berserk. They burst onto the scene with a brutal hybrid of hardcore, death metal, deathcore grooves, and surprisingly dynamic influences like sitar, choirs, and world folk instrumentation on their debut EP The Interstice.

Their unique multimedia concept inspired by Berserk’s bleak mythology and utterly visceral sound quickly gained Brand of Sacrifice a rabid following in the underground extreme music scene. A viral

video excerpt featuring their music scored to footage of people convulsing in a Pentecostal church service added over 10,000 new fans to their mailing list before they had even played a hometown show. Given that groundswell of momentum, Brand of Sacrifice was invited to play the 2019 Summer Slaughter as the opening act.

Four years later, they’ve skyrocketed to co-headliner status off the momentum of their two Unique Leader albums, 2019’s Godhand and 2021’s Lifeblood. The latter saw them further blend death metal extremity with injections of groove, melody, and even subtle trap influences into their dynamic songwriting. It’s a sonic whirlwind that has cemented their reputation as one of deathcore’s most exhilarating and forward-thinking new voices.

“We’re so excited to introduce the new age of Summer Slaughter this year with Veil of Maya and this truly awesome lineup of bands,” said Brand of Sacrifice vocalist Kyle Anderson. “Back in 2019 we were the first band on the bill, so it’s a bit surreal to be here at the top now, bringing in the new era of the tour with our first ever full headline set.”

Rounding out this crusher of a lineup are Gideon, Left to Suffer, Ten56, Tallah, Cabal, and Brat, with one more band still to be announced. The Alabama-bred hardcore heavyweights of Gideon will be bringing their punishing breakdowns and Southern-fried grit to the stage, hot off their 2023 release More Power. More Pain. That album saw the band embracing an even more thrash-forward and extreme approach to their signature lurching hardcore style that first put them on the map in the early 2010s.

The Summer Slaughter Returns to Crush Houston - Continued

Atlanta’s rising forces of deathcore, Left to Suffer, will be representing their stacked local metal scene with their unique “nu-deathcore” sound. The band has been on a rapid rise since their formation in 2019, fusing nu-metal grooves with scorching deathcore extremity. Their 2023 sophomore album Feral demonstrated why tastemakers have praised Left to Suffer as “a force to be reckoned with” in the new generation of underground heavy music.

From the blackened fury of Las Vegas trio Tallah to the dynamic future deathcore of Ten56, this Summer Slaughter lineup runs the gamut of extreme music’s most exhilarating up-and-coming acts. And it’s all being brought back by the tour’s creator Ash Avildsen, founder of the Sumerian record label which has helped break and nurture many of these bands over the years.

For extreme music fans in Houston, the return of the Summer Slaughter tour on July 25th is an absolutely can’t-miss event. Initiated back in 2007, the Summer Slaughter quickly became one of the most crucial touring franchises and rites of passage for new artists trying to break through in the crowded heavy underground. It was also key for establishing acts to ascend to headliner status through a series of climactic performances on bigger stages each year.

Now after a four-year hiatus, the legendary Summer Slaughter is back with a vengeance led by two of the biggest and most creative names in modern metal - Veil of Maya and Brand of Sacrifice. It’s a

lineup that encapsulates the full spectrum of what’s most exciting in the heavy music world right now, from subgenres like metalcore, deathcore, djent and blackened death metal to wildy creative fusions of styles.

“This tour has been crucial year after year for breaking new artists as well as elevating the headline status of established acts,” said Sumerian founder and Summer Slaughter creator Ash Avildsen. “I’m thrilled to be able to bring it back with such a youthful and outstanding lineup, grateful for all the fans who have stuck by the brand, and excited for the new generation to experience the tour for the first time.”

The Summer Slaughter kicks off on July 12th in Brooklyn and will leave a wake of destruction in its path until the final show. When it arrives in Houston at the end of the month, fans at Warehouse Live better be prepared for a relentless onslaught of breakdowns, blast beats, and bone-crushing brutality.

Between the progressive djent grooves of Veil of Maya, the vivid mythology and extreme metalsmanship of Brand of Sacrifice, the gritty Southern heaviness of Gideon, the down-tuned nihilism of Left to Suffer, the occult blackened menace of Tallah and a stacked undercard of heavy music’s hottest upstarts, this will be a night for the books in Houston’s storied history of extreme music shows.

The Summer Slaughter has been reborn as a showcase of modern metal’s most fearsome subgenres and brightest rising talents. For bands like Veil of Maya and Brand of Sacrifice who have played the tour at different stages of their careers, this year’s prominent co-headlining placement feels like a passing of the torch to the new vanguard. For fresh faces like Ten56 and Cabal, it’s an opportunity to prove themselves on one of heavy music’s biggest stages and potentially be the next act to climb the Summer Slaughter ranks.

And for fans, it’s simply a chance to witness the entire eclectic spectrum of underground metal’s most punishing styles all on one stacked, can’t-miss billing. From Veil of Maya’s sweeping progressive grooves to Brand of Sacrifice’s mythological deathcore madness, from Gideon’s Southern-steeped breakdown assaults to Left to Suffer’s nu-metal tingedberserker rages, the 2024 Summer Slaughter is a full immersion into heavy music’s darkest recesses.

When this fearsome traveling festival inevitably descends into the sweltering Houston summer night on July 25th at Warehouse Live, the heavy music community will be waiting with bated breath and fists clenched tight. The new era of Summer Slaughter is upon us, and it’s shaping up to be more intense, more diverse, and more devastating than ever before.

Texas Music Titans Two Tons of Steel Bring the Party to Dosey Doe

For nearly three decades, the San Antonio-based band Two Tons of Steel has been the torchbearers for a rambunctious brand of “countrybilly” music that blends rockabilly, Texas country, and infectious roots rock energy into one electrifying package. On July 27th, this veteran group will be making a highly-anticipated stop at the Dosey Doe Big Barn in The Woodlands to showcase why they’ve become beloved ambassadors of the Lone Star State’s diverse musical lineage.

Led by frontman and founder Kevin Geil, Two Tons of Steel first started turning heads in the early 1990s when Geil’s original band Dead Crickets began packing small bars and honky-tonks across San Antonio with their signature high-octane sound. It was the beginning of a twenty year journey that would see them earn a spot on the cover of Billboard Magazine, win the Ameripolitan Honky Tonk Group of the Year award in 2019, and even be featured in the internationally-released IMAX concert film Texas: The Big Picture.

“Before there was Americana, before there was Texas Country as most people know it, Dead Crickets rocked a sound that blended the best of musical worlds and really pushed the envelope of that classic ‘Texas’ sound with our own signature brand of highenergy country,” said Geil. “We just packed those small local bars and hangouts and quickly became the Alamo City’s most-loved band.”

That boundless local adoration soon turned into national and global recognition as the newly-renamed Two Tons of Steel saw their kinetic hybrid of blues, rockabilly, Tex-

Mex grooves, and vibrant country swagger spread like wildfire. Key early releases like 1994’s Two Tons of Steel and 1995’s Crazy For My Baby scored them a sponsorship deal with Lone Star Beer and opened doors to play historic venues like the Grand Ole Opry. They even took their roots-steeped sound on the road internationally with tours of Europe and a celebrated run at the National Theater in Havana, Cuba - where they truly cemented their reputation as worldwide ambassadors for the diverse sounds of their Texas homeland. Closer to home, their music would go on to be featured prominently at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville via their performance of “King of a One Horse Town” in a documentary.

“Two Tons of Steel really embodies the spirit of true Texas music at its most rambunctious and quality-driven,” said Kelly Lenz of Dosey Doe. “They have been repeatedly voted ‘Best Country Band’ by the San Antonio Current, one of their hometown weeklies, which is just an incredible testament to their local legacy. But they’ve also managed to spread that homegrown spirit and sound to the biggest stages across the globe.”

Through an extensive catalog of critically-acclaimed albums like 2006’s Vegas (which hit #7 on the Americana charts), 2009’s Not That Lucky (#4 Americana), their 2018 effort Gone, and an array of awards including 12 “Band of the Year” wins and 4 “Best Male Vocalist” nods for Geil, Two Tons of Steel has cemented their place as a true institution on the national Texas/Red Dirt scene.

In addition to Geil on vocals and guitar, the current Two Tons of Steel lineup features JD Larish on bass, Stephen James on lead guitar, and Rich Alcorta on drums. The quartet plays a wildly entertaining mix of fan favorites from their stacked discography alongside some of their classic cult hits from their 27 (and counting) years of the “Two Ton Tuesdays” summer concert series at the famed Gruene Hall in Gruene, Texas.

Anyone who caught their legendary performance segments in the IMAX film Texas: The Big Picture can expect plenty of that same electrifying spirit when they hit the Big Barn stage. Their dedicated legion of fans will likely be in full voice all night for a setlist representing the entire Two Tons of Steel experience.

“This band has this blissful ability to blend together amped-up honky tonk, rockabilly attitude, Tex-Mex melodies and just good old-fashioned Texas grit into something utterly unique,” said Lenz. “It’s a high-energy, shake-the-rafters kind of show that always has the crowds hollering for more.”

From heartland rock & roll anthems and twangy Texas two-steppers to harddriving Southern boogie romps, a Two Tons of Steel gig promises to run the full gamut of roots music’s most irresistible facets. Their instantly infectious grooves and Geil’s bourbon-drenched vocals transport audiences to a joyful state of rapture that has been decades in the making for this veteran band.

After reaching heights like being named the official “Texas Band” at the 1968 HemisFair celebration in San Antonio, filming those IMAX concert scenes witnessed by millions, selling out every single night of Gruene Hall’s summer series for over 25 consecutive years, and spreading their self-described “countrybilly” gospel across six continents, Two Tons of Steel has more than earned their status as prestigious ambassadors of Texas music.

“This band clearly has an uncanny ability to unite audiences across all cultures and backgrounds through the universal language of their live show charisma and that authentic Texas spirit,” said Lenz. “On July 27th, the Dosey Doe Big Barn is going to get a real taste of why these guys have such a profound legacy back in San Antonio and beyond.”

Two Tons of Steel’s appearance promises to be an outright celebration - a raucous, roof-shaking, boot-stomping party paying tribute to both their own enduring legacy and the entire radiant history of Texas’ incredible music scene. From soulful TexMex melodies to adrenaline-fueled rockabilly riffs, cowboy song narratives to electrified Southern boogie, it’s a high-voltage live experience that could only be delivered by true contemporaries and stalwart heroes of Texas music itself.

So let the rager commence! When Two Tons of Steel rolls into Dosey Doe’s Big Barn on July 27th, they’ll be armed to the teeth with decades of crowd-pleasing anthems and an endless supply of exemplary Texas musical craftsmanship. In the immortal words of frontman Kevin Geil, “We’re coming in hot!” Somebody brace the darn barn doors.

Thrash Metal Titans Megadeth Bringing Destruction to The 713 Music Hall

Houston headbangers, brace yourselves - one of the most influential and iconic thrash metal bands of all time is about to bring the full force of their live show fury to the 713 Music Hall on August 3rd. The aptly-named “Destroy All Enemies” tour will see the legendary Megadeth, led by visionary founder Dave Mustaine, unleashing their latest neck-wrecking musical onslaught alongside a stacked bill of special guests in Mudvayne and All That Remains.

For over 35 years and across a hugely impactful, massively successful career, Megadeth has remained both a definitive force and relentless sonic innovator in the world of heavy metal. From helping to pioneer andmold the

thrash metal genre itself with ferocious early albums like 1985’s Killing is My Business...And Business is Good! and 1986’s Peace Sells...But Who’s Buying?, to reaching iconic mainstream heights in the 90s with seminal works like Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, and Youthanasia, their unique fusion of blistering rhythms, meticulous shredding, and Dave Mustaine’s distinctive throat-shredding snarl has inspired countless imitators while influencing entire generations of metal musicians.

Their newest album, last year’s critically-exalted The Sick, The Dying...And The Dead!, has reaffirmed Megadeth’s status as leaders of the metal vanguard. The blistering 12-track effort hits with a “visceral energy [and] paranormal pace that few would expect

from such a seasoned band,” according to critics, blending the band’s trademark speed and technical precision with a ferocious modern edge.

As the mastermind Mustaine himself proclaims, “This record could easily sit between Countdown and Rust in Peace. The musicality that we started to add around Countdown is prevalent on it, while it still has a lot of the unhinged aggression that Rust in Peace had.”

That signature combination of technical proficiency, complex yet hooky arrangements, and sheer metallic force will be on full display when Megadeth brings songs from their latest album as

well as a cavalcade of classic fanfavorite anthems to the 713 Music Hall stage on August 3rd.

The “Destroy All Enemies” tour will also mark Houston fans’ first chance to see and hear the band’s updated lineup in person. While Megadeth stalwarts like Mustaine and powerhouse lead guitarist Kiko Loureiro (who made his recorded debut with the band on 2016’s Grammywinning Dystopia) remain anchoring the group, the release of The Sick, The Dying...And The Dead! heralded the addition of new faces.

In the engine room, the band has enlisted the addition of Brazilian drummer extraordinaire Dirk Verbeuren, hailed as “an untouchable metal drummer” by Modern Drummer magazine. While on bass, the inimitable Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Testament, Sadus)

(continued from previous page)

stepped in temporarily to record the album before the permanent return of previous Megadeth bassist James LoMenzo.

“Chris [Rakestraw, producer] and I have an understanding of what a Megadeth record is supposed to sound like,” explains Mustaine. “And his work ethic is a lot like mine - we worked hard, he worked even harder. Having fresh players like Dirk and Steve involved really benefitted the process and the songs.”

Of course, elite-level live performance has always been a forte for the tireless Megadeth machine. As AllMusic raved about their recent “Crush the World” tour shows, the 60-year-old Mustaine remains “as ferocious and hard-hitting as ever” even after all these decades, captivating audiences with both

classic hits and new material. Across their catalog of 16 full-lengths to date, Megadeth has consistently pushed boundaries and kept fans guessing.

Indeed, the band has long been renowned for their “unparalleled energy and mastery on stage” according to their team. Their uncompromising, fullthrottle concerts have become a “benchmark for heavy metal performance worldwide.”

What Houston audiences can expect from this latest “Destroy All Enemies” tour is a sonic extravaganza spanning Megadeth’s entire iconic catalog from blistering early thrash classics to proggy epics and radioembraced latter-day anthems, all delivered with the absolute finest in instrumental virtuosity and shredding chops.

As Mustaine declared in the run-up to the tour, “Our ‘Crush The World’ shows have been a tremendous experience for the four of us. We are all playing tighter than ever, and that has made it possible for me to really focus on solos, singing, and channeling the energy. We are playing more songs than ever before on this tour, and we are closer to each other both onstage AND off.”

That revitalized band chemistry

Megadeth - Destroy All Enemies

and seeming renewed hunger to shred faces old and new alike will be on full display when the “Destroy All Enemies” tour assaults Houston’s 713 Music Hall on August 3rd

Reinforcing the stacked night of heavy music bonafides, co-headliners Mudvayne and All That Remains will ensure this is an absolutely unmissable evening for metal fans of all stripes and eras. Having emerged from the New Orleans nu-metal scene in the late 90s, the newly reunited Mudvayne are likely to deliver a high-energy greatest hits setlist packed with era-defining anthems like “Dig,” “Not Falling,” “Happy?”, and more.

Representing the modern metalcore contingent, Massachusetts’ All That Remains (founded in 1998) will bring their signature blend of chunky riffage and pit-friendly breakdowns to the 713 stage. With a stacked catalog including bangers like “Two Weeks,” “The Air That I Breathe,” and 2017’s “Madness,” their blistering metalcore grooves are the perfect curtain-jerker for Megadeth’s impending thrash onslaught.

(continued from previous page)

From the genre-defining bona fides of Megadeth’s bulletproof catalog stretching back to the 1980s, to their zeitgeist-capturing new material on The Sick, The Dying...And The Dead! displaying the absolute state-of-the-art in modern heavy music, to the powerhouse support of co-headliners representing two vastly different eras of metal’s global dominance, this will be an evening of pure headbangingcatharsis for Houston audiences.

As the hard-touring Mustaine emphasizes, Megadeth’s mission has always been to make that lasting connection and relationship with their diehard fanbase: “I think the metal community wants to honor itself and have something that’s unique - something that sets us apart and rewards the people for their hard work, perseverance, and unwavering loyalty to the music and lifestyle.”

Metalheads and music fans who bleed for the genre will undoubtedly feel that intense soul-bond when Megadeth’s searing riffs, thunderous rhythms, and

Mustaine’s sword-slicing rasp shakes the 713 Music Hall on August 3rd. This is a tour and overall live experience that could only be produced by true legends and lifers dead-set on delivering an unforgettable night of heavy metal ecstasy.

“We’re not nearing the end of our journey as a band, not even close,” Mustaine declares with the same fiery conviction and self-belief that propelled Megadeth from hungry underground upstarts to multi-platinum-selling icons across their 16 albums to date. “We’re still doing our damnedest to push the boundaries and give our fans exactly what they crave from us - the most intense, authentic, and wildly performed brand of true heavy metal around.”

When this new visceral chapter in Megadeth’s iconic story gets written in scorching riffs and shredded solos at the 713 Music Hall, the destruction and euphoria for thousands of Texas metalheads will be nothing short of glorious to behold. The titans have arrived - may Houston be adequately prepared for the thrash metal onslaught.

The Redemptive Fury of As I Lay Dying Storms Houston

On August 2nd, the House of Blues in Houston will bear witness to one of modern metal’s most remarkable comeback stories as As I Lay Dying brings their incredible live show to town. The hugely influential metalcore outfit fronted by Tim Lambesis will be coheadlining a summer U.S. tour alongside Chelsea Grin and Entheos on this date, allowing fans to experience firsthand the band’s incredible redemption and creative rejuvenation.

For years after Lambesis’ shocking 2013 arrest for his role in a murder-forhire plot targeting his estranged wife, it seemed the book had been closed on As I Lay Dying’s bright future and enduring legacy. The singer ultimately pled guilty and served a 6-year prison sentence, leaving the remaining members adrift

and vowing to never work with Lambesis again.

However, in a profound display of forgiveness, inner resolve, and the immense healing power of creative expression, Lambesis’ former bandmates began welcoming him back into the fold after his 2018 release from incarceration. While the reunion sparked controversy and backlash, it paved the way for As I Lay Dying to heal through the writing and recording of their first new album in 7 years - the compellingly-titled Shaped by Fire.

As Lambesis explains, that 2019 comeback record captured a renewed vitality for the band: “No disrespect to some of these other bands, but some bands, when they get to as far along in their careers as we are, they start lightening up or putting out records that

are, I think, less exciting than their previous material. And I think for us, it’s really cool. I feel like [Shaped by Fire] is a second wind with As I Lay Dying where this record has a lot of really cool intense parts, a lot of really great intricate melodies and cool guitar work and stuff.”

That intense, impassioned spirit comes through in waves on Shaped by Fire and has been a driving force behind As I Lay Dying’s remarkably powerful return to stages across the world over the past four years. A big part of that revitalized live experience and creative energy also comes courtesy of the band’s retooled lineup featuring new additions like drummer Nick Pierce (ex-Unearth) and bassist/vocalist Ryan Neff (Miss May I).

As I Lay Dying

(continued from previous page)

“Well, [Nick and Ryan] are new for us, but, obviously, the guys have been around playing music for 20 years themselves,” notes Lambesis. “We’re familiar with them, just having spent so much time with Unearth and Miss May I who have a pretty similar sound.”

“The songwriting within As I Lay Dying has historically been mostly [guitarist] Phil [Sgrosso] and I,” the frontman continues. “Josh [Gilbert, former bassist] helped. But the core of the songwriting is the same. So this additional layer that we get from these new guys is almost like breathing fresh new air...a breath of fresh air into the DNA of the band.”

That rejuvenated musical DNA has been on full display as As I Lay Dying has toured relentlessly since their reuniting in 2018, including high-profile runs with the likes of Killswitch Engage, Underoath, and more. Their upcoming summer stint with Chelsea Grin and Entheos promises to be something truly special - and potentially offer a first taste of new music.

“We definitely have the new album scheduled to come out this year and some tours that are already booked to follow that. I just can’t announce those tours yet,” Lambesis teased in a recent interview, hinting that fresh material from the band’s first album with the retooled lineup may be on the horizon.

For those needing a refresher on As I Lay Dying’s game-changing rise, the San Diego-based quintet was at the vanguard of the metalcore movement in the early-to-mid 2000s. Formed initially as a trio in 2000 by Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino, and guitarist Evan White, the band exploded onto the scene with their 2001 debut Beneath the Encasing of Ashes.

As I Lay Dying’s increasing incorporation of harmonic singing from bassist Josh Gilbert alongside Lambesis’ punishing screams and roars propelled them to new heights with seminal

albums like 2005’s Shadows Are Security and their blockbuster 2007 LP An Ocean Between Us. That record debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200, cementing them as leaders of the American metalcore movement alongside peers like Killswitch Engage.

From there, the group’s rise continued at a meteoric pace through ambitious works like 2010’s Powerless Rise, 2012’s Awakened produced by punk legend Bill Stevenson, and 2013’s Decas which saw them covering influential metal acts like Judas Priest. Their trajectory was derailed after Lambesis eventually pled guilty to his criminal charges in 2014, leading to a multi-year prison sentence and the members going on to form the project Wovenwar.

Which makes As I Lay Dying’s reuniting in 2018 and the construction of their comeback masterpiece Shaped by Fire all the more impressive and cathartic. The album reveals a band reborn and recharged, blending their trademark brutal grooves, dynamic riffing, and explosive vocals with a potent sense of emotional purging and deliverance.

As Lambesis states: “Just showing people that we’re just as passionate and energetic about where we’re at as we’ve ever been, that, to me, is what’s important.” Judging by their showstopping performances since their reunion, that passion is burning brighter than ever before.

What is certain is that the House of Blues crowd on August 2nd will be

treated to an emotional exorcism and cathartic celebration of American metalcore’s most inspiring artists. From the punishing riffs and dynamic grooves to Lambesis’ powerful roars and soaring clean vocals, to the revitalized chemistry with Pierce and Neff, As I Lay Dying’s rebirth through fire and adversity will be on full display.

“For our fans, they think that the changes [to our lineup] happened all in a very short period of time, but they actually happened over the last two years,” Lambesis elaborates. “It was just a situation where Josh [Gilbert] decided to take a new direction in life and kind of cut himself off from the rest of us after the pandemic hit. And we decided we wanted to keep going forward.”

That forward momentum and relentless drive has restored As I Lay Dying to their rightful place as titans of the modern metalcore realm. While the road has been turbulent and their journey is still unfolding, their return to Houston on August 2nd will allow fans to rejoice in the strength, perseverance, and incredible artistry forged from life’s darkest trials.

The band’s first area show since 2012’s stint on the Mayhem Festival, this House of Blues gig marks a true comeback for the ages. When As I Lay Dying’s redemptive fury is unleashed in Houston, it will be a night simply not to be missed for devotees of heavy music’s courage against darkness and adversity. The new era of this iconic group is well underway.

On August 2nd, The Heights Theater will bear witness to the arrival of modern blues rock’s most electrifying force - Samantha Fish. The Kansas Citybred singer, songwriter, and guitar virtuoso has been leaving fans and critics alike breathless with her captivating live performances and depth-defying musical versatility. As Fish brings her current world tour to Houston in support of her critically-exalted 2023 album Death Wish Blues, audience members should prepare to have their expectations for the blues severely shattered.

Fish’s uncanny ability to shred with reckless abandon on her instrument while unleashing vocal melodies that shake the soul has earned her countless accolades over her decade-plus careerfrom being handpicked to perform at Eric Clapton’s prestigious Crossroads Guitar Festival to touring as part of the all-star Experience Hendrix celebrations. Her rousing Dynamite talent has even seen the 34-year-old hailed as the high priestess of blues rock’s future.

“Samantha is one of the hottest stars in the blues rock world for a very evident reason - when she plays, it’s

Samantha Fish The Future of the Blues Storms into Houston

utterly transcendent,” raves blues rock heavyweight Joe Bonamassa. “Her guitar work can veer from raucous to intricate to sublime in a single solo. Coupled with that elastic voice that can transition from a whisper to a scream on a dime, you simply can’t take your eyes off her when she’s on stage. It’s the work of a true virtuoso who was put on this earth to play guitar.”

While Fish is currently being breathlessly praised alongside icons of the blues, her own origins are rooted in surprising humility. As a teenage guitar prodigy in Kansas City, she took a pragmatic, blue-collar approach to getting her start - relentlessly cold calling clubs and bars in a determined effort to gain experience and book gigs, no matter how small.

“I used to actually open up the phone book and call every single place that had a listing in Kansas City, even if they didn’t have any history of hosting live music shows,” Fish recalls with a laugh over her remarkably humble beginnings. “I had maybe a 3% success rate getting places to give me a try, but I just kept grinding. Eventually I started filling up my calendar, because if you put on a good enough live show, word

just gets around through that mystical thing called ‘word of mouth.’”

And has word ever gotten around about the mesmerizing live performances of Samantha Fish. After establishing herself on the Kansas City scene, the preternaturally talented guitarist crossed paths with renowned mentor and blues stat Mike Zito, who produced her first few solo albums - 2011’s Runaway, 2013’s Billboard-charting breakout Black Wind Howlin’, and many more. She quickly gained worldwide recognition and acclaim for those early releases, where she merged vintage blues and roots influences with rock, funk, and even rockabilly flavors.

From there, Fish’s stardom only continued its trajectory with subsequent releases like 2015’s Wild Heart produced by Luther Dickinson, 2017’s Chills & Fever which featured covers of obscure pop and soul gems, that same year’s Belle of the West which earned her the Blues Music Award for Contemporary Female Artist of the Year, and her blockbuster major label debut Kill or Be Kind in 2019 for Rounder Records.

Samantha Fish

(continued from previous page)

Along the way, Fish’s sound has expanded kaleidoscopically to incorporate flavours of rock, soul, funk, and pop through both her vocals and guitar work, transforming her into a truly visionary, genreless performer inspired by studying songwriting masters like Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen. Her most recent album Death Wish Blues finds Fish fully embracing those eclectic muses by collaborating with rockabilly renegade Jesse Dayton to concoct a fierce, highoctane roots rock cocktail.

“For me, one of the greatest joys of making music is the robust exchange of energy at my live shows,” Fish explains. “I originally fell in love with music from going to shows myself as a kid, and I know how incredibly cathartic and transcendent the experience can be - it truly heals your heart. So anytime I’m up on stage, my sole goal is to tap into that same spirit and make people forget about everything else in the world, if only for a night. I want them to feel that same unbridled joy that I feel when I’m performing.”

Those attending Samantha Fish’s highly-anticipated August 2nd concert at The Heights Theater can expect to get swept up in the full force of that transcendent live experience she has become renowned for. With her vampiric charisma, blistering guitar skills honed over endless touring, and evocative, soul-bearing vocals channelling the entire historical fabric of American roots music, Fish will undoubtedly have the audience under her spell from the first torrid notes.

The singer-guitarist has spent the last decade establishing herself as a true force of nature in the modern blues-rock scene. She’s collaborated with icons like Dion, Buddy Guy, and even punk blues firebrand Jon Spencer, rocked the biggest stages everywhere from Clapton’s Crossroads to Bonnaroo, and achieved that rarest of feats - breathing fresh inspiration and vitality into a revered

American art form and tradition.

“I feel so charged up in the studio and on stage, because in those moments I can be anyone I want to be - there’s this liberating transformation when you own that creative freedom,” Fish says of the genesis of her exuberant, genreless sound. “In the studio it’s just me and these incredible musicians trying to make a piece of art that contributes something new to the world. So it’s never hard to feel inspired and empowered about that mission.”

The pop punk revolution is coming to Houston’s White Oak Music Hall on July 19th when rising star jxdn takes the stage as part of his massive “When The Music Stops Tour.” Get ready Houston, because the 22-year-old singer-songwriter has established himself as one of the most authentic and impactful voices in the revitalized pop punk scene, and local audiences will get a front row seat to his cathartic live performance.

The July 19th show is part of the first U.S. leg of the “When The Music Stops Tour,” which kicks off on June 6th at the iconic First Avenue in Minneapolis. jxdn and his band will energize crowds in over 20 cities across the continent before circling back to Texas, making White Oak Music Hall one of the last stops on the domestic run. Up-and-coming acts LØLØ and GUNNAR are tapped as special guests to get audiences primed each night.

But jxdn’s ambitions are truly global for this touring cycle. Following a late summer break, he’ll take the “When The Music Stops Tour” overseas starting September 12th at the legendary Bataclan in Paris for a sprawling run across Europe. He’ll play to fervent audiences in Spain, Italy, Germany and beyond over the following weeks. Finally, the tour will culminate with a can’t-miss

stretch of high-profile U.K. performances kicking off October 2nd at London’s renowned O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

The “When The Music Stops Tour” is in support of jxdn’s hugely anticipated second fulllength album of the same name, scheduled for release on June 28th via Travis Barker’s influential DTA Records label. It follows his blockbuster 2021 debut Tell Me About Tomorrow, which established the young artist as a foremost voice for Gen Z. That record seamlessly blended modern pop punk sonics with jxdn’s vulnerable, deeply resonant lyricism tackling mental health, addiction, and the turbulence of coming-ofage.

Tell Me About Tomorrow

was an unqualified smash, achieving RIAA gold certification, amassing over 1 billion streams worldwide, and yielding singles like “SO WHAT!,” “BETTER OFF DEAD,” “TONIGHT” feat. iann dior, and “WANNA BE” with Machine Gun Kelly. The record’s remarkable success earned jxdn nominations at the 2021 MTV VMAs and EMAs, and led to show-stopping television performances that further fueled his rapidly rising popularity.

With the highly revealing When The Music Stops, jxdn is taking his introspective songwriting even further as he details an intense period of personal struggle and self-discovery

following the whirlwind success of his debut. As he explained of the album’s profoundly meaningful title and inspiration:

“What do I hear when the music stops? I heard silence like I had never heard before. I heard an emptiness that overtook me. I missed the music of my life, I missed the safety it gave me. I had lost my love for the feeling. I went to hell and back since my last album. I questioned myself, I questioned my music, and I questioned life and its purpose. And through all that, I heard faint sounds ever so often that resembled a beautiful melody. They guided me through the silence back to the place I call home - the

music.”

Fans have gotten a preview of the nakedly honest territory jxdn is exploring with When The Music Stops’ lead single “What The Hell” and its official music video directed by Hunter Moreno. The confessional track finds him wrestling with inner demons over anthemic pop punk production. Many more songs diving into jxdn’s personal odyssey are expected in the lead-up to the album’s June 28th release.

Despite his remarkable success at just 22 years old, jxdn remains grounded and committed to inspiring positive change beyond his music. He has an-

nounced that $1 from every ticket sold across the entire “When The Music Stops Tour,” including the Houston show at White Oak Music Hall on July 19th, will be donated to The Coop’s Advice Foundation. This is a non-profit organization jxdn founded after the tragic passing of his best friend Cooper Noriega, with the mission of provoking vital new dialogue and becoming a leading force in rethinking how society understands and addresses mental health struggles and addiction.

For the generation of new fans in Houston and beyond who have embraced pop punk’s adrenaline-fueled rebirth, jxdn has quickly established himself as an authentic voice they can pour their souls into thanks to his powerful pen and ability to capture the ups and downs of modern adolescence like few others. His songs speak to the thrill of finding oneself and the pain that often comes with that journey.

When the “When The Music Stops Tour” pulls into White Oak Music Hall on July 19th, it’s sure to be an explosive celebration of that revitalized sound and jxdn’s incredible personal odyssey that fueled the new album’s creation. This is the start of pop punk’s next era in Houston, with jxdn leading the charge. Don’t miss your chance to experience this generational talent’s breakthrough moment live and in the flesh.

The Brilliant New Frontier of Silverada Comes to Houston’s White Oak Music Hall

For over a decade, the band known as Mike and the Moonpies has represented the driving heartbeat of Texas’ honky-tonk soul. With relentless roaddogging and a catalog of criticallyacclaimed albums, they’ve flown the lone star state’s musical flag from Austin’s dusty dancehalls to the Grand Ole Opry and all the way across the pond to London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios.

But even as they ascended to becoming global ambassadors for homegrown Texas twang, bandleader Mike Harmeier and his cohorts were itching to outgrow their own identities. The momentum was undeniable, but it also left them hungry for something new - a sound and vision that could match their runaway ambition.

In 2024, that evolution has been realized in the form of Silverada, the newly reborn band formerly known as Mike and the Moonpies. Their daring new album of the same name, released in March, reveals a vibrant reinvention and expansion of the group’s trademark Texas roots rock. It’s the start of a bold creative rebirth that Houston audiences will get to experience firsthand when Silverada brings their electrifying new

live show to White Oak Music Hall on July 11th.

“Back in the day, all we wanted to do was play the Broken Spoke,” says Harmeier, referring to the iconic Austin honky-tonk where the seeds of Silverada were first planted over a decade ago. “We had different aspirations back then. We were still figuring out what kind of band we were gonna be, and that took a lot of time and a lot of records.”

Indeed, Silverada marks the 9th studio album for the road-tested band of roots music lifers, which also includes drummer Taylor Englert, guitarist Catlin Rutherford, bassist Omar Oyoque, and steel guitarist Zachary Moulton. But it represents their most ambitious artistic statement to date, one that was fueled by a kaleidoscopic array of new influences and total creative immersion.

“Going into the studio, everybody in the band felt inspired to do something bigger than what they’d done before,” Harmeier recalls. “We all knew we were at a precipice, and we wanted to jump.”

The resulting Silverada album is an 11-track epic journey where the band’s hardcore honky-tonk roots blissfully collide with globe-trotting sonic textures. From the scorching Springsteen-meets-

War On Drugs anthemics of “Radio Wave” to the improvised, intergalactic “Eagle Rare” to the sparkling disco-roots fusion of “Wallflower,” Silverada embraces a daring new palate of sounds and influences.

At the same time, the album remains grounded in the band’s Texas songwriting roots, with tales of workingclass grit (“Load Out”), family roots (“Stubborn Son”) and two-steppin’ romance (“Doin’ It Right”) nestled alongside the experimentation. It’s a record that truly encapsulates the grand ambitions of the newly reinvigorated collective.

“I brought in some songs that were metaphorical and not always straightforward, and that showed the guys that I wanted to take this music somewhere new,” Harmeier says. “So they threw their own rulebooks out the window, too.”

Harmeier’s bold new creative direction was inspired by an intensive writing period that saw the frontman surrounding himself with a dizzying array of outside texts and stream-ofconsciousness approaches. “We’d been on tour for so long, playing the same set

continued on next page

Silverada

(continued from previous page)

for almost two years, and I wanted to write something that was a departure,” he explains. “I spent a full month in that studio, going there every night, making word ladders and highlighting lines and learning to free write.”

His unique creative process involved everything from devouring scifi novels and astronomy guides to pouring over Jeff Tweedy’s writings on songcraft. “I would read some, work a little bit, read some more, and work a little more,” Harmeier says. The frontman enacted a full creative rebirth, pushing himself to shatter conventions and tap into uncharted territory.

Recorded at Yellow Dog Studios with longtime producer Adam Odor, Silverada both builds upon and radically reinterprets the sonic legacy Harmeier and company have built over their decade-plus career. It’s the first step into an audacious new era, one that reaffirms their status as standard-bearers for the constantly evolving roots music scene.

As Harmeier puts it, “We spent the

first part of our career figuring out who we are and what we’re good at. Now we want to evolve not only the sound of the band, but the dynamic of the live show, too. We’re all lifers here. We’re in this for the long haul. Silverada is us setting the stage for the next leg of the journey.”

When Silverada brings that whitehot new vision to White Oak Music Hall on July 11th, Houston audiences will be able to experience the brilliant next

frontier of a truly iconic Texas band. It promises to be a hometown area celebration of artistic courage and reinvention from a group that has traveled from the barrooms of Austin to the world’s biggest stages over their acclaimed career.

With the Silverada album and new moniker, this incredible collective of roots music veterans is stepping into a vibrant new chapter. Don’t miss your chance to witness the start of that evolution in Houston at White Oak Music Hall on July 11th. Tickets for the all-ages show are on sale now.

Kingdom Come’s Reclaimed Kingdom Begins in Houston

After years of turmoil, breakups, and battling the constant comparisons to Led Zeppelin that threatened to overshadow their entire musical identity, Kingdom Come has risen again. The newly reformed German hard rock band is beckoning a new era, one they’ve fittingly dubbed the “Return to the Kingdom.” And this rebirth will officially be christened on August 1st when Kingdom Come makes their acclaimed debut at Warehouse Live in Midtown Houston.

For the band’s core members like guitarist Danny Stag and bassist Johnny B. Frank, this Houston show represents far more than just another concert date. It’s a hard-fought reclamation after decades of Kingdom Come’s legacy being diminished by the inescapable “Kingdom Clone”jibes and accusations that they did little more than rip off Led Zeppelin’s bluesy hard rock sound.

“The comparisons were ridiculous from the start, but they took on a life of their own that nearly destroyed what we had built,” laments Stag. “We’re back now to remind everyone that Kingdom Come was its own entirely original voice in rock music.”

At the center of this reinvigorated renaissance is the band’s powerful new lineup featuring drummer Matt Muckle, a veteran skinsman who has toured with acts like Paul Gilbert and Lynch Mob. But the lineup’s most pivotal addition is new lead vocalist Ezekiel Kaplan, whose incredible range and projection allows Kingdom Come’s music to finally soar like never before.

“Having Zeke join on lead vocals has been a total rebirth for this band,” Frank states emphatically. “His range and energy is unlike anything we’ve had before. When we played those first few reunion shows back in March, it was like a weight being lifted hearing those

classics done justice again in a way Lenny Wolf could never pull off live.”

The Houston show promises to be a blistering reintroduction of all of Kingdom Come’s greatest hits like “Get It On,” “Should I,” and “Loving Anuby.” But it will also provide a window into the band’s future, with a preview of new material being recorded for their first full-length album since 2013’s Outlier.

“We know there’s always going to be the Zeppelin comparisons out there, but we’ve gotten to a point where we just embrace it now,” says Muckle. “If you like that kind of classic blues-infused hard rock, then this is the band for you. We’re not shying away from what made Kingdom Come connect with people in the first place. We’re just finally doing it at the level it always deserved.”

That multi-dimensional display of Kingdom Come’s revitalized sound and stage prowess will be put to the ultimate test on August 1st in Houston. It was in this city over 30 years ago that the frenzy first began with the release of “Get It On” and their 1988 self-titled debut album shipping gold on Led Zeppelin reunion speculation alone.

All these years later, Kingdom Come finally gets the chance to introduce a new generation to their music on their own terms, for the first time outside the reductive “Kingdom Clone” shadow. With an explosive new vocalist, renewed creative spark, and a hunger to reassert their hard rock legacy, this band is ready for its true comeback.

“We can’t wait to kick off this ‘Return to the Kingdom’ tour in Houston, it’s going to be a hell of a night,” Stag states emphatically. “All I can say is, you’ve never heard or seen Kingdom Come quite like this before. We’re coming in hot and hitting it harder than we ever have. It’s a new era for this band, and we’re coming to take what’s ours.”

Let the Kingdom reclamation event begin in Houston on August 1st. The true Kingdom Come sounds off at last.

With an extensive lineup of special guests and new music on the horizon, fans are in for an unforgettable experience that blends country storytelling with rock energy.

“It’s been a fun winter in the studio working on new music, but we can’t wait to be back on the road getting rowdy with the fans,” Wetzel shared enthusiastically. “And who knows, we might even have some more new music to sing for y’all at these shows soon…”

Kicking off the tour in his home state of Texas, the “Damn Near

Koe Wetzel Set to Ignite The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion with the “Damn Near Normal World Tour 2024”

Normal World Tour” spans 34 U.S. dates, hitting major cities including Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., Boston, and Nashville. The stateside run will culminate at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on October 13 before Wetzel heads overseas for 12 stops in the U.K., Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

Wetzel, a proud native of Northeast Texas, has made a name for himself as a country rockstar who blurs the lines between Nashville songcraft, Texas spirit, and Seattle hard rock. His 2022 full-length album, “Hell Paso,” released under Columbia Records, is a testament to his unique sound and rebellious spirit. “I did what I wanted to do,” he exclaims. “This was straight up me. Nobody told me to do this record. We pulled in every genre we were feeling at the time. We spent the last

ten years trying to make this sound — Hell Paso is it.”

The tour, produced by Live Nation, promises a series of highenergy performances that reflect Wetzel’s dynamic musical style. Known for his electrifying live shows, Wetzel combines aggressive power chords with poignant acoustic songs, creating an atmosphere that is both rowdy and heartfelt. His wild side and authentic performances have earned him a devoted fan base, evidenced by the 275,000 tickets sold in 2023 alone.

In addition to headlining his own tour, Wetzel will be playing multiple festivals throughout the summer, including Rock the Country, Tortuga, Cattle Country, Country Thunder, Country Jam, Watershed, and more. He will also be opening

Surrounded by flames, amps cranked all the way up, and no holds barred, Koe Wetzel leaves a trail of sold-out venues, screaming fans, and empty booze bottles wherever he goes. His unapologetic and undeniable presence on stage has solidified his status as one of the hottest live performers in the game. After moving over 1 million units under the radar and racking up over 1.3 billion streams, Wetzel has notched three RIAA Gold-certified singles, including “February 28, 2016,” “Something To Talk About,” and “Drunk Driving.” His 2020 Columbia Records debut, “Sellout,” received widespread acclaim from American Songwriter, Billboard, The Boot, Rolling Stone, and more.

Wetzel’s recent single, “Damn Near Normal,” has been a hit among fans, and he has hinted at more new music to come. “It’s been a fun winter in the studio working on new music, but we can’t wait to be back on the road getting rowdy with the fans,” he reiterated. “And who knows, we might even have some more new music to sing for y’all at these shows soon…”

The “Damn Near Normal World Tour” will feature an array of special guests, including Treaty Oak Revival, Kolby Cooper, Pecos & The Rooftops, Tanner Usrey, Dylan Wheeler, Kat Hasty, and Kolton Moore on varying dates. Tickets for all dates go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 5th, at 10 a.m. local time. American Express® Card Members can purchase tickets before the general public beginning Wednesday, April 3rd at 10 a.m. local

time through Thursday, April 4th at 10 p.m. local time. Presale will start tomorrow, April 2nd, with code “DAMNNEAR.”

Koe Wetzel’s journey to stardom has been anything but conventional. Breaking through with a series of independent releases, he has carved out a niche for himself with his unique blend of country and rock. His albums, including “Blue,” “Out of the Vein,” and “Ursa Major,” have all made significant impacts on the charts and in the hearts of his fans.

At the top of 2022, Koe and longtime collaborator Taylor Kimball retreated to Sonic Ranch recording studio, just outside of El Paso, TX. Holed up on a pecan farm for a month, they had nothing to do “except eat wonderful Mexican food and fucking play music.” “It was straight-up bliss, man,” he recalls. “I couldn’t go to the bar because there isn’t one. I just had to make music!”

This tour marks another milestone in Koe Wetzel’s career, as he

continues to push boundaries and defy expectations. With a sound steeped in country storytelling and spiked with grunge grit, Wetzel’s music resonates with fans across the globe. As he takes the stage at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, fans can expect a night of highenergy performances, new music, and unforgettable memories.

As Wetzel himself puts it, “We brought everything together into one on Hell Paso. You’ve got to be yourself. Once I put out something authentic, it worked. This record is going to get a lot of flack, but it’s going to get a lot of love too. I’m not going to stop. Hopefully, I go home at some point, kiss grandma, and she’ll maybe cook me breakfast..

For fans of Koe Wetzel, the “Damn Near Normal World Tour 2024” is not just a concert; it’s a celebration of music, rebellion, and authenticity. Be sure to grab your tickets and join the party on July 27th at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

Edición Especial: A Musical Journey from Sinaloa to the World Stage

Get ready for an unforgettable night of music as the sensational Mexican band, Edición Especial, takes the stage at Smart Financial Centre on July 27th. Known for their electrifying performances and unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds, this rising force in the Latin music world is set to deliver an evening you won’t forget.

In the dynamic landscape of Mexican music, a new force has arrived, seamlessly blending tradition and innovation, passion and prowess. This powerhouse is none other than Edición Especial, a group that has taken the music scene by storm with their infectious energy and unique blend of musical influences.

Hailing from Culiacán, Sinaloa, cousins Arturo Villa (Accordion and Lead Vocals) and Cristian Valenzuela Villa (Drums) began their musical journey at the tender age of 10. Joined by Jesús Alan Obeso (Bajo Sexto) and Andy Bernal (Second Vocals and Bass), they formed Edición Especial in 2013, drawing inspiration from the likes of Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Miguel y Miguel, and Los Tigres del Norte.

Since their inception, Edición Especial has graced stages across Mexico, captivating audiences in states such as Sinaloa, Jalisco, Chihuahua, Baja California, Sonora, Nayarit,

and Estado de México. Their shared passion for music and undeniable talent has even led them to share the stage with their idols, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, on numerous occasions. In 2016, Edición Especial took their craft to the next level, recording two albums: “Corridos” and “Rompecabezas.” It was in “Corridos” that Arturo’s compositions, “El 3” and “El Doble RR,” struck a chord with listeners, becoming instant crowd favorites. The overwhelming response on social media prompted the group to release “El 3” on digital platforms, a corrido that tells the story of a character who earns respect through hard work and integrity in business dealings.

The following year saw the release of their third album, “Play Ball,” further cementing their position as rising stars in the Mexican music scene. Now, as they put the finishing touches on their fourth album, set to be released in late November, Edición Especial continues to push the boundaries of their craft, blending traditional elements with contemporary flair.

Their success has not gone unnoticed, with Edición Especial collaborating with some of the biggest names in the Latin music industry, such as Daddy Yankee, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin. These collaborations have not only showcased their versatility but have also introduced their unique sound to a wider audience.

The accolades have followed, with Edición Especial receiving numerous awards, including Billboard Latin Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and Latin Grammy Awards. Their single “No Me Llores” was certified Diamond in Mexico and won them the Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Song in 2018, while their critically acclaimed album “Amor de Mis Amores” peaked at number 1 on the US Latin Pop Albums chart in 2019. Beyond their commercial success, Edición Especial has become a beacon of influence in the Latin music world. Their innovative approach to blending Latin and urban music has inspired a new generation of artists, bridging the gap between genres and creating a sound that resonates with audiences around the globe.

As they prepare to take the stage at Smart Financial Centre on July 27th, Edición Especial stands poised to deliver an unforgettable performance, one that will showcase their incredible talent, infectious energy, and unwavering dedication to their craft. With each note, they will continue to write their legacy, leaving an indelible mark on the vibrant story of Mexican music and inspiring generations of artists to come. Edición Especial: a musical force that has emerged from the heart of Sinaloa, ready to conquer the world stage, one electrifying performance at a time.

Multi-platinum country music sensation Sara Evans is bringing her powerhouse vocals to Houston this summer. The acclaimed artist is scheduled to perform at The Arena Theater on July 19th, thrilling fans with a concert in support of her latest album, “Unbroke.”

Country music star Sara Evans has unveiled her eleventh studio album, “Unbroke,” released on June 7, 2024, through Melody Place Records and her own Born to Fly label. This deeply personal 11-track collection offers listeners an intimate journey through Evans’ recent life experiences, chronicling her separation from husband Jay Barker and their subsequent reconciliation.

Co-produced by Evans and Jeff Trott, known for his work with Sheryl Crow and Stevie Nicks, “Unbroke” was recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium studio. The album showcases Evans’ songwriting prowess, with the artist co-writing ten of the eleven tracks.

“Unbroke” has been described by Billboard as featuring “traditional country lyricism” reminiscent of legends like George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Evans herself characterizes the album’s narrative arc as moving “from break down to breakthrough,” exploring challenging emotions and culminating in reconciliation.

The album’s songs cover a range of deeply personal topics. The opening track and lead single “Pride,” released on March 21, 2024, addresses Evans’ feelings following Barker’s arrest. Other standout tracks include “21 Days,” an uptempo reflection on separation inspired by therapy, and “Mask,” which delves into emotional abuse.

Evans also tackles broader themes, such as the impact of alcoholism in “Cleaning Out Your Closet” and the complexities of long-distance relationships in “Gypsy Ways.” The title track “Unbroke” carries dual significance, touching on generational trauma in relationships while also celebrating Evans and Barker’s journey to a “good place.”

With its raw honesty and traditional country sound, “Unbroke” marks a significant milestone in Sara Evans’ illustrious career, offering fans a deeply personal and emotionally resonant listening experience.

Evans, a country music mainstay for over two decades, released “Unbroke” on June 7th, marking her 11th studio album. The record, co-produced by Jeff Trott, known for his collaborations with Sheryl Crow, offers a deeply personal journey for Evans. It chronicles a reconciliation with her second husband, providing listeners with an intimate glimpse into the artist’s life and emotions.

The upcoming Houston show is part of Evans’ extensive touring schedule, which typically sees her performing close to 100

Country Music Star Sara Evans Set to Perform in Houston

shows each year. Fans can expect to hear new material from “Unbroke” alongside the charttopping hits that have defined her career.

Evans’ impressive discography includes five No. 1 singles: “No Place That Far,” “Suds In The Bucket,” “A Real Fine Place To Start,” “Born to Fly,” and “A Little Bit Stronger.” Her platinum-certified hits “Suds In The Bucket” and “A Little Bit Stronger” each spent two weeks at the top of the charts, solidifying her status as a country music powerhouse.

With over 20 Top 15 singles to her name, Evans ranks as the fifth most-played female artist at country radio in nearly the last two decades. Her distinctive voice, described by Rolling Stone as “stunning, country,” has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Academy of Country Music Top Female Vocalist award.

Evans’ journey to stardom is as compelling as her music. Growing up in rural Missouri, she began performing with her family’s band at the tender age of four. Her talent was evident early on, leading to a recording session in Nashville just a few years later. After a brief stint in Oregon, where she performed as Sara Evans & North Santiam and opened for country legends like Willie Nelson and Tim McGraw, Evans returned to Nashville to pursue her solo career in earnest.

Her debut album, “Three Chords and the Truth,” released in 1997, caught the attention of country music icon George Jones, who personally selected Evans to open a special show in Nashville. However, it was her 2000 album “Born to Fly” that catapulted

Evans to superstardom. The title track became a massive hit, and the album achieved double-platinum status.

Throughout her career, Evans has consistently evolved while staying true to her country roots. Her music spans from classic mid-century country to contemporary country-pop, with touches of Bakersfield honky-tonk evident in hits like “Suds in the Bucket.”

In recent years, Evans has expanded her reach beyond music. She launched her own record imprint, Born to Fly, in 2017. Early in 2023, she appeared on the ninth season of the popular TV show “The Masked Singer,” and later that year, she received one of country music’s highest honors by becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Coinciding with the release of “Unbroke,” Evans has also launched a podcast titled “Diving in Deep with Sara Evans,” offering fans another way to connect with the artist.

The July 19th concert at The Arena Theater promises to be a showcase of Evans’ enduring talent and the emotional depth of her new material. For country music fans in Houston, it’s an opportunity to experience one of the genre’s most beloved voices in an intimate setting.

Tickets for Sara Evans’ “Unbroke” tour stop in Houston are expected to sell quickly, given the artist’s popularity and the anticipation surrounding her new album. Fans are encouraged to secure their spots early for what promises to be an unforgettable night of country music.

I had just pulled out of Buffalo New York on interstate 90 heading for Ann Arbor Michigan. Ann Arbor because it was summer time and Michigan in the summer can be cool. Maybe not cool in the sense of the weather so much but cool none the less. In Buffalo I had seen Chris Gardner and the band perform and was moving along down to Erie Pa where I would see bluesman and now state representative Jake Banta perform. Both events were right in there and now I was tooling along on 90 doing my thing. It was time to stop for some gas, check the oil and stretch my legs so I hit an exit figuring I would hit a truck stop close by. The exit was labeled 6N south of Erie and there was a truck stop there ok but it was closed down. I went a little further up the road thinking there would be another one but no luck. However my kidneys were letting me know that truck stop or not it was time to stop. I saw another road coming up and took it. No one was on it so I wheeled over and did my thing. I turned the bike back around and when you are running ten over tubes with a ten degree rake on the tree plus a 45 degree rake on the neck of the bike well this can be a bit arduous to say the least. Now I was headed back to 6N and when I got there a woman was hitchhiking and wearing a nice smile. Well what’s a man to do? After all Mother always said be nice to strangers. You don’t always know the reactions of people when you pull up on a rig like mine but she was more than cool about it so all was ok in that department. I asked her if she wanted a lift out to interstate 90 and she said ya that would be nice. Then as I stepped off to bungee cord her bag to the front tubes she asked where I was going. I told her Ann Arber Michigan. I keep a small pea pad inside my sleeping bag that actually has suction cups on it that is perfect for situations like this and I put it on the rear fender. I got on the bike and she got on behind me. It wasn’t until then that I thought about her having ID with her. I mean trust me when an officer in blue sees a chopper, a guy with a beard hauling a nice young thing well like I say trust me I am going to get stopped. I asked her about an ID and she not only said yes but pulled it out of her back pocket. The ride out to 90 was short and I stopped at the junction and asked which side of 90 she wanted to hitch on she said west to Cleveland. When we got to other side I entered the entrance ramp and pulled off to the right. Even before we got off she asked if I would mind if she road a bit further with me and of course being the gentleman I am I said well of course. Well what would you have said? So here I was packing this precious cargo headed for Ann Arbor. Cleveland was about ninety miles

down the road and as we left the Pennsylvania line I spotted a state patrol car coming up. Interesting enough he didn’t stop us, that was cool. Next we entered into Ohio and had just passed the exit for Ashtabula and an Ohio State Trooper was inquisitive and his lights came on. Nice guy though, standard traffic stop, he ran our IDs and my bike registration and was personable about it. His only question was were we carrying any drugs and I thought ok here it comes, a tear down. But we both said nope and surprisingly he said ok and let us go on our way. That’s rare ladies and gentlemen, very rare. As we entered into the northern suburbs of Cleveland (Euclid Ohio) I took the exit as my hunger alarm had went off and this was probably a good place to drop of the cargo I was carrying. I pulled up to a café that was close to a gas station and shut off the bike. Nice big window so we could see the bike and our stuff that was cinched to the front tubes. I asked her if she wanted dropped here or on the other side of Cleveland. She told me with a smile that Michigan sounded nice. I smiled back and said yes but you got to know that the little seat and no springs on the frame can become uncomfortable fast. She said ok but what about just riding until that happens? I said fair enough and that was settled. I asked her if she was running away and she said no just being adventurous over the summer. She went on to say that she was a writer and I found that amusing. I mean if she only knew that I wrote for Rock and Blues International Magazine but why tell her now? She packed with me all the way to Toledo about two and a half hours away from the restaurant. Once there I told her I was going to stay somewhere near the junction that leads north into Ann Arbor and travel it in the morning. I didn’t want to arrive into the city at dusk and try to find a motel. She agreed. Now nothing that you might think could have come together at the motel did not just so you know. However, we both got our rooms and me well as usual I settled in with a motel room chair out in front of the room with my cigar, scotch and headphones. In a little while Susan was her name came walking my way and said she ordered in pizza, enough for two. I went inside without saying a thing other than giving a complimentary nod and brought out another chair. I went back inside and came out with a portable boom speaker. If she wanted a beverage she was on her own so she made way for the Coke machine up front. When she returned I guess it became question and answer time. I asked her what her favorite genre was and she said she didn’t know all the choices but she liked Taylor Swift and Katy Perry. Well folks that is a long way from what this guy has on his iPhone and so I just played what I would have played anyway. I started out with Janis Joplin because I was on my way to the land of some of the original hippies in the U.S. Ann Arbor Michigan. In the morning we

met up and hitched our gear to the front tubes and off we went to Ann Arbor about an hour and a half ride. Now what was cool is that about two thirds into it we stopped for gas and there was this VW bus tricked up with colorful graphics with girls going to what they said was known as Hippie Fest. They described it to us and we looked it up on our phones. Absolutely, positively one cool line up of summer festivals in various cities. The next one was going to be in Trufant Michigan. How cool is that? Fate at work. After Susan talked with them for a while she came and let me know that she was going to go with them and so I unhooked her bag and gave it to her. She gave me a hug and a smooch on the cheek like your grandmother does and then she was gone. The woman is definitely a free spirit and if anyone can respect that it would be me with this nomadic instinct alive within. So off to Ann Arbor and maybe some good music and a bar full of peaceful people. Yet this fest stayed on my mind. I was curious, how far was Trufant Michigan from Ann Arbor? About three hours at most and there was plenty of daylight so why not? Can you imagine going back in time to a hippie get together, to a portable commune? One that travels the country over the summer. Well I was curious and I must say I was not disappointed. I am telling you man get out and see America. There are still millions of real people, caring people that are everyday folks with interesting lives. “C’mon now people and smile on your brother, everybody get together and love one another right now” Well I arrived and it was like going back to the sixties complete with the sounds of the time and the peaceful loving people of the era. There were tye dyed shirts everywhere, funnel cakes, booths with spirit rocks for sale even bell bottom pants and hand made moccasins. The people were over the top cool. I had entered into a time machine and hundreds if not a thousand like minds there. The next one is in early August in Ohio then later that month in Omaha and finally in September Indiana. If you are young and never experienced such a festival trust me do it and you will understand why so many older adults still talk about the sixties and early seventies. If you have indeed experienced a festival like this in your past oh man this is like going back but without the mushrooms. Stress is a killer, after all what you are working for to pay the mortgage? No it’s about being at peace and being happy. Do yourself a favor and remain ever young. You are only here for so long and if not now, then when? Peace….

Lindsey Stirling Brings

On July 26th, the highly anticipated “Duality” tour, headlined by the mesmerizing pop-violinist and entertainer Lindsey Stirling, will make its stop at the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, Texas. Fans from across the Houston area will gather to witness Stirling’s extraordinary blend of virtuosic musicianship, breathtaking choreography, and heartfelt storytelling. The excitement is palpable as concertgoers prepare for an unforgettable evening of music, dance, and emotional exploration.

The “Duality” tour comes on the heels of Stirling’s latest album release of the same name, which has been hailed as her most ambitious and emotionally complex work to date. Released via Concord Records, “Duality” is a visionary meditation on inner wisdom, personal strength, and the ever-shifting nature of identity. The album showcases Stirling’s signature fusion of electronic violin, dance, and cinematic visuals, taking listeners on a transformative journey of self-discovery.

Stirling’s creative process for “Duality” was one of breaking free from self-imposed limitations and embracing a newfound sense of artistic freedom. “For a long time, I was trying to limit this album to a specific sound,” Stirling shares, “but finally, I decided to stop containing myself—and that’s when I started writing the songs that I loved the most.” This liberation allowed Stirling to explore uncharted musical territories and delve deeper into the themes that have always been at the heart of her artistic vision.

The result is a 12-track odyssey that explores the duality within us all—the push and pull of light and dark, strength and vulnerability, the known and the unknown. Collaborating with esteemed producers and co-writers such as Graham Muron (Thirty Seconds to Mars, Skrillex) and Lucky West (Walk the Moon, Dreamers), Stirling has crafted a sonically diverse and emotionally resonant body of work that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.

“Duality” encompasses a wide range of musical styles and influences, reflecting Stirling’s eclectic tastes and boundless creativity. The album’s first half is characterized by a grandiose and elaborately composed sound, informed by Celtic music and other global influences. Tracks

like “Untamed,” a thrillingly majestic piece that matches Stirling’s mesmerizing violin work with ferocious guitar riffs, bombastic rhythms, and sudden bursts of otherworldly vocals, showcase the album’s cinematic scope and emotional depth.

The latter half of “Duality” ventures into a boldly original form of left-of-center pop, with tracks like “Inner Gold” and “Survive” revealing Stirling’s pop sensibilities and knack for crafting infectious melodies. “Inner Gold,” a pop-tinged twist on the earlier track “Eye Of The Untold Her,” features the gorgeously strange vocals of alt-pop artist Royal & the Serpent and tells the tale of suffering through deception and emerging with a renewed sense of self-reliance.

Another standout track on the album is “Survive,” a sublime interpolation of Gloria Gaynor’s disco classic “I Will Survive.” Featuring the powerhouse vocals of Walk off the Earth’s Sarah Blackwood, the song is a soul-stirring anthem of resilience and empowerment. The inspiration for “Survive” came from a deeply personal place for Stirling, as she wrote the song in the aftermath of a painful breakup. “I definitely wrote several sad songs after my breakup, but with ‘Survive’ I wanted to write a song of empowerment,” Stirling shares. “As devastating as it was to go through that experience, I trusted that I would be okay someday. It was a matter of telling myself, ‘I’ve been through hard things before, and I know that I’m going to put in the work and the time to get back to a good place again.’”

As a multi-award-winning musician and New York Times bestselling author, Stirling’s creative output knows no bounds. With “Duality,” she has pushed her artistic boundaries even further, mining inspiration from illuminating works like Glennon Doyle’s “Untamed” and Martha Beck’s “The Way of Integrity.” These influences have helped shape an album that encourages listeners to break free from societal expectations and connect with their truest selves.

Beck’s book, in particular, had a profound impact on Stirling’s creative process. “In the book, Beck writes about

how the outside world tells us what we should believe and what we should do with our lives, and how that can disconnect us from our own beliefs and desires,” Stirling explains. “I’ve always felt that we’re all magical beings with so much spirit and potential, but we live in a world of expectations and rules that often makes us feel so constrained.” This idea of breaking free from external constraints and embracing one’s inner magic is a central theme throughout “Duality.”

As the Houston crowd gathers at the Smart Financial Centre on July 26th, they will be treated to an unforgettable night of music, dance, and storytelling. The venue, known for its state-of-the-art acoustics and intimate atmosphere, provides the perfect setting for Stirling’s immersive and transformative performance. From the moment she takes the stage, Stirling will captivate the audience with her virtuosic violin playing, electrifying dance moves, and heartfelt storytelling.

Throughout the evening, Stirling will take fans on a journey through the sonic landscape of “Duality,” performing a carefully curated selection of tracks from the album that showcase her musical versatility and emotional depth. With each song, Stirling will bring her unique vision to life, creating an immersive experience that combines music, dance, and visual storytelling in a way that is wholly her own.

Between songs, Stirling will share personal anecdotes and insights into the creative process behind “Duality,” giving fans a glimpse into the heart and soul of the album. She’ll touch on the challenges she faced while honing her vision for the

record, the life experiences that inspired her songwriting, and the transformative power of music to heal, inspire, and unite.

Stirling’s live performances are a testament to her multifaceted artistry and boundless creativity. With her stunning choreography, dazzling costumes, and infectious energy, she creates an immersive experience that leaves audiences spellbound. Her “Duality” tour promises to be a visual and auditory feast, showcasing Stirling’s evolution as an artist and her unparalleled ability to connect with fans on a deep, emotional level.

As the night draws to a close, Stirling will leave the audience with a message of hope, empowerment, and the importance of staying true to oneself. “I hope that in some way these songs help people to feel free and empowered and more connected to their truest selves,” she says. “I’d love to remind everyone that even though the world tries to tame us, that magic is always there within you.”

Lindsey Stirling’s “Duality” tour is more than just a concert—it is a celebration of the human experience in all its complexities and contradictions. Through her music, Stirling reminds us that even in a world that often tries to constrain us, the magic within us can never be tamed. As fans leave the Smart Financial Centre on July 26th, they will carry with them the inspiration, joy, and sense of connection that Stirling’s music and performance have brought into their lives. The “Duality” tour is a testament to the power of music to transform, heal, and bring people together, and Lindsey Stirling is the perfect artist to lead us on this unforgettable journey of self-discovery and artistic expression.

Conjunto Primavera
