WHAT IS ACRYLIC?

Acrylic Canvas is a synthetic woven material, supplied in a range of finishes, designed to excel in outdoor applications. A highly technical but natural canvas appearance makes this fabric perfectly suited to withstand the rigours of the outside and marine environment. Solution dyed acrylic is the most colour stable cloth available with the highest UV resistance.

USES:

The Sauleda range of marine acrylic fabrics delivers proven performance against all outside conditions, with its resistance to water, air permeability, dimensional and UV stability coupled with the large range of colours, making it the perfect fabric choice for your cover maker to use to protect both yourself and your craft from the elements.

Over the years we have supplied acrylic canvas to a wide range of industries for various applications. Acrylic canvas is ideally suited for use in the marine environment and perfectly designed for use in biminis, enclosures, stack packs, dodgers and all types of boat covers.

Sauleda Acrylic Canvas is also the premier fabric of choice for aircraft covers, sunshades, garden shading and seating. The list is endless, you can use acrylic canvas in so many applications the only restriction is your imagination!

CARING FOR ACRYLIC

Manufactured and designed to withstand the harshness of the marine environment, Acrylic Canvas is built to last if cared for correctly. Hose down regularly with water. Use gentle brush to remove dust/dirt.

For deeper stains, use warm water below 30 degrees and a soft soap solution. Rinse soap residue thoroughly.

WINTERISING

Ensure the fabric is dry and clean before storing to prevent mould and mildew. Do not use a jet or pressure washer to avoid damaging yarns and strips the fabric of its strength and water proofing.

Do not use chlorine or bleach-based products. Do not tumble dry or iron. For best results, re-proof fabric after cleaning.

SAULEDA

Sauleda have been weaving and dyeing fabrics in Spain since 1897 and are one of the oldest and most respected textile makers in Europe. Woven from the finest yarns and coloured with the most stable dyes, Sauleda Acrylic is the product developed from this wealth of experience in the production of technical textiles.

Since 1995 Sauleda have operated their own spinning mill enabling them to directly control the manufacturing process and quality. Although the company is now 125 years old, they are continually upgrading the weaving looms and technology to ensure they operate the most modern equipment available.

Features

Sauleda Nautic Sea Star offers an outstanding performance covering the wide range needs of the nautical sector.

5 years warranty

The warranty covers abnormal deterioration of the fabric fibre and colour provided there is normal exposure to the sun and atmospheric agents in general.

Maintenance:

· Eliminate dirt by gently brushing or vacuuming the fabric.

· Occasionally use a water and soft soap solution to clean the fabric (maximum water temperature 30ºC).

· Apply to the fabric and then rinse with running water.

· Let the fabric dry completely.

· Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents.

Barrier effect

All our acrylic fabrics have been impregnated with SAULEDA FABRIC PROTECTOR. This creates a barrier effect and reinforces the water-repellent properties of the fabric. Furthermore, it delays the adherence of dirt to the fabric.It is important to know that agents such as acid rain or bird excrements,and washing the fabric with abrasive products may damage the SAULEDA FABRIC PROTECTOR coating.

Loop

Loop is Sauleda’s sustainable fabric produced with actual textile waste from their factories. Technology has been developed in order to remain faithful to Sauleda’s commitment to the environment, focusing on the circular economy by reusing those materials that are wasted in the production process.

20% re-used fiber from waste +80% solution-dyed acrylic fiber, the yarns are spun by a special process resulting in our unique recycled fabric ‘Loop’ retaining the special qualities of a Sauleda manufactured fabric.

Odyssey Softouch fabric is a combination of an acrylic coated woven polyester and a soft non-woven backer of 100% polyester. With the development of Softouch, fabricating professionals can now provide their customers with a material that has the strength, dimensional stability and water and abrasion resistance they expect from Odyssey along with a scratch resistant softness that comes from the non-woven backer. Odyssey fabric is impregnation coated, 100% polyester suitable for many indoor or outdoor applications. It features high strength, dimensional stability, abrasion, mildew and ultra-violet resistance and is produced with a clear seal coat to provide a high degree of water resistance for such end uses as boat covers, canopies and various other types of outdoor protective covers. Top Gun™ is a two sided acrylic coated 100% woven polyester marine cover fabric, super high strengths, abrasion resistance, minimal breathability, virtually no stretching or shrinkage over time, mildew and ultra violet resistant and very water repellent. The coating of Top Gun will not peel, chip, flake or crack even at temperatures as low as 0°F. To maintain a sharp appearance all that is required is to periodically clean with a mild soap and soft brush followed by a thorough rinse. To prevent 'colour rub off' a protective patch should be sewn in at contact points.

Outdoor carpet in three colours, which is ideally suited to a marine or wet environment. The yarn is impervious to salt water and is UV stabilised, so it will not rot and has the added advantage of not being susceptible to mildew with its 100% man made nylon fibres.

This specialist carpet is designed to hold its colour fastness and not fade in the sun, has very high abrasion resistance and features a channelled PVC backing to repel moisture and allow water to run out from underneath, so it cannot become trapped between the carpet and its fixing. The carpet pile weight is 1kg per square metre and it is available in Navy Blue, Sand and Silver (Grey) and is sold by the metre at a 1.5 metre width.

This marine carpet is ideally suited for sundecks, or areas which are likely to become wet through use or weather, wet bars, swimming areas or even top decks. It can also be used as an interior carpet in power or sail boats for a more comfortable cruising finish.

Allows joining of tubes with ability to dismantle one side. It should be noted that some Stainless Steel Decorative Polished Tube has no tolerance on the wall thickness so there may be cases where the above items will not fit.

Fitting Instructions:

Take one half of the tube that is to be joined and drill a 7mm hole approximately 12.5 cms from the end. De-burr the hole inside and out.

Slide Tube Insert into tube so that button locates in hole. Slide the other half of the tube that is to be joined over the exposed insert and secure with either two or more rivets, self tapping screws or weld. The screw or rivets should be set opposite each other.

NOTE: When assembled, avoid excessive downward pressure as this can collapse the spring clip. Usual safety precautions when drilling stainless steel tubing should be observed.

Threads

Thread is one of the most important components when making a cover or any outdoor application, the correct selection of size of thread and needle is paramount to reducing any possible water ingress.

Our threads are available in a range of materials, finishes and sizing. The most common fibre used in thread making is polyester, this is UV resistant and some options include an anti-wicking treatment, this means that the thread has a lubricant that repels water and prevents water from travelling down (wicking) the thread and into the needle hole.

Kayospruce offer a range of manufacturers Heminway and Bartlett, Dabond in plain and anti-wick, Serabond Invincible which is made to our specifications and is colour matched to the Sauleda Acrylic, Acrylic Centrefold Binding and Spradling Harmony Vinyl Range.

We stock two types of zip either Moulded Plastic or Coil (Spiral) both are available in different styles, colours and finishes to provide a solution for your application. On both options all teeth are formed onto a polyester Water Resistant tape with some UV inhibitors applied, although if left in direct sunlight the teeth and zip tape may discolour.

Coil Zipping:

Coil or Spiral zipping is available in Number 5 and Number 10 sizing. Coil zipping would be preferred in Upholstery or areas of tight radius, the spiral zips tend to form around corners easier than the Moulded Plastic. Coil zipping is also designed with a water-resistant coating and is available in 7 colours.

Moulded Plastic Zipping:

Moulded Plastic zips are Polyacetal teeth on Polyester tape with two sizes, number 5 (6mm) and Number 10 (8.6mm) available.

Continuous is supplied by the metre up to 100m rolls, this is usable where the zip isn’t required to separate completely and can be supplied with a range of slider options.

Open Ended is whereby both parts of the tape are able to be separated completely such as found on a jacket zip. This is required where panels need to be separated and reattached. Open ended zips come supplied as standard with a double metal puller, and are currently sold in a variety of lengths from 1ft (30cm) up to 60ft (18.28m)

Open Ended zips can be cut down to size at the top end utilising one of the many zip stop options to finish the zipper as required.

Assembly instructions for stoppers

Plastic Top Stops for moulded zipper: Place top stop on zipper’s tooth with opening facing you, snap in and twist.

Ring Top Stop for moulded zipper: Place the ring Top Stop on the zipper tooth, tighten with pliers until the stop is snapped into the zipper’s tooth.

Standard Top Stop for moulded zipper: Place stopper above the first tooth, tighten with pliers until stopper catches into the zipper’s tape.

Butterfly Bottom Stop for moulded zipper: Insert stopper between the zipper’s tapes right under the last zipper teeth and tighten with pliers.

Comparison Guide for Sliders

Prong Bottom Stop for moulded zipper: Place the stopper tips on both zipper tapes right under last zipper teeth, push stopper until its tips penetrate the zipper tapes, tighten with pliers.

Standard Prong Bottom Stop for coil zipper: Same as for moulded zipper.

Standard Top Stop for coil zipper: Place stopper on zipper tapes right above the first zipper teeth, tighten stopper with pliers into the zipper tape.

Fixings, Fittings & Fastenings

Unless stated otherwise, most Canopy Fasteners are Nickel Plated Brass. Where used, the preferred grade of Stainless Steel is usually 316 Marine Grade (A4). However, some items are only available in 304 Stainless Steel (A2). Microscopic ferrous pieces can “impinge” on stainless fastenings and fixings causing a rust coloured stain. The stain can usually be cleaned off easily and the strength of the fixing or fastener is undiminished.

H901 Portable, self-piercing, manual eyeleting machine

A truly portable eyeleting machine. It is small and light enough to use anywhere it is needed, even on site. It is simple to operate and minimal training is required. The machine punches a hole and sets the eyelet and washer in one operation. It is suitable for self piercing eyelets from 6mm to 13mm (size SPU to SPY and SP1 and SP2 Grommet Eyelets). Tool changes to switch eyelet sizes are achieved in a matter of seconds.

Adhesive Useful Tips

Preparation

Take off covering.

Remove any powdered foam using cleaning wheel. Clean surface with solvent cleaner – GLU901. Once process is complete see general application.

General Application Contact Adhesive

Apply even coat to both surfaces using spreader. Ensure adhesive is fully touch dry. Bring surfaces together. Ensure no air between surfaces. Once surfaces are laid, apply even pressure all over using a hard block or roller.

All surfaces need to be dry and dust free.

DO NOT use adhesive in temperature less than 10 degrees centigrade.

Damp or damaged surfaces should be replaced. Ensure all areas are well ventilated when applying solvent based products.

Do not use near naked flames.

Please Note:

Aerosol Spray Adhesive

Surface preparation as described previously. Apply evenly from left to right a coat of adhesive spray to one side, on the second substrate apply an even coat top to bottom.

Leave adhesive to dry 4-5 minutes or until tacky to touch. Bring surfaces together. Ensure no air between the surfaces. Apply even pressure using block or roller.

Water Based Pressure Sensitive Adhesive

Surface preparation as before. Apply even coat using paint roller to solid surface wood or fibreglass.

Leave to completely dry, adhesive will look clear and tacky to touch.

Once dry apply fabric. Fabric may be repositioned to final dressing.
