In the year 2077, Jack Harper is a drone technician who lives in a tower high above the clouds with his assigned partner, Vika. They are the last people left on earth after it was destroyed by nuclear war that humans had waged with aliens known as the Scavs, who wanted earth’s resources. Now, earth is a radioactive wasteland, with most humans relocated to Titan, one Saturn’s moons. Some humans inhabit a huge spaceship, known as the Tet, that is in orbit around earth. Jack’s job is to keep Scav-hunting drones operational in an area that was the City of New York. One day, everything he thinks he knew about the Scavs and the earth’s war is called into question by a crashed spacecraft.

There are also two Town Hall Meetings on the 16th and the 23rd regarding the purchase of The Great Outdoors Golf Course and the Plantation House Restaurant. Many of the community clubs and recreational activities are getting back in action, noted with a “RETURNING” banner in this issue. And to end this exciting month, we’ll be having the Halloween Dance on Thursday the 31st in the Plantation Manor. Welcome back!

R Henry Whipple is an Iowa farmer who has more than 3,500 acres and also represents the Liberty Seed Company, which sells seeds that are genetically modified. He inherited the business from his father and hopes to pass it along to his younger son, Dean. That’s because his older son, Grant, has run away from the family to climb South American mountains. The plan might not work since Dean would rather be a NASCAR race car driver than a farmer. Further testing the father-son relationship is an unexpected business crisis. It remains to be seen how far either of them will go in pursuit of their dreams. This emotional drama is MPAA rated R for sexual content and for language.

Items of Interest: Website: As many of you know, we had some website and e-mail problems this week. We have corrected these problems and the website and e-mail are back up. The website can now be found at: www.tgocsa.org. Please note that the only change is the last three letters. Previously we were .com, so be careful when you type the address in your browsers to put the .org. The CSA Staff and Board of Directors e-mail addresses also now end in @tgocsa.org instead of @tgocsa.com. These are all posted on the website at www.tgocsa.org. Text Messaging from the Mass Notification System: Many people now use text messaging, and next week we will send out a Mass Notification e-mail that will allow you to opt-into receiving text messages from the Mass Notification System. The e-mail will include instructions on how to opt-in. If you don’t want to receive text messages, then you don’t need to respond. If you do want text messages, then just follow the instructions. If you opt-in you can always opt-out if you change your mind. Document Change Written Consent Forms: If you haven’t returned your vote for the CSA document changes that were mailed in August, please do so as quickly as possible. We need to get those results tabulated and out to the community as soon as possible. If for some reason the USPS didn’t deliver your packet yet, you can access the it on the CSA’s website at www.tgocsa.org and mail your vote to 100-D Plantation Drive, Titusville, FL 32780. Hogs and Hog Damage: We are still having some hog damage, but the use of the capture dogs and traps has really helped. We will continue to run the dogs and set the traps to keep the hog population down. We have been moving the traps around to different areas with some good success. If you notice hog damage in your yard, please notify the CSA Office. Please take a look at the article in the Nature Center section on our hog control efforts. CSA Board of Directors Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month from October through May, except for February when it follows the Annual Members Meeting. Planning Meetings to set the agenda for the Board of Directors Meetings are scheduled from October to May on the second Wednesday of the month. They are held in the CSA Conference Room. DISTRICT MEETINGS There are ten CSA voting districts at The Great Outdoors. They are non-geographical, but are determined by the last digit in each homeowner’s street address. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 The President’s Council includes the presidents of the eighteen Condominium Associations and the Fairways Homeowners Association here at The Great Outdoors. At an informal monthly meeting every third Tuesday from October through April, they get information on changes in Florida state law, compare notes on issues affecting the condo associations, work on budgets and discuss other operational topics. NO PETS ON NATURE TRAILS For the safety of your beloved pets, do not take them on the Nature Trails. With alligators, bobcats, and snakes out there, we wouldn’t want any close encounters of the wild animal kind. Many signs are posted that state this rule.

AED BASICS HAVE SOMEONE CALL 9-1-1 WHILE YOU OPERATE AED

The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device that diagnoses incorrect heart rhythm patterns that could potentially be life threatening. The device treats the condition with electrical shocks. AED use requires minimal training because an electronic voice prompts the user through each step. If you are helping a person who collapsed and you’re unsure if a heart attack is the reason, don’t hesitate to use the AED. Every minute counts. The device determines if the patient needs an electrical shock or not. Simply place the AED pads on the patient’s bare skin, one on the right upper chest and the other on their lower left side. No one else should be touching the patient because false readings could result. The AED will advise you, the device operator, what to do next. TGO Has six AEDs located at CSA buildings and the list is on Page 2 of The Happenings.

CSA Assessment Collection Policy Assessments are paid to the Association on a quarterly basis. These assessments are paid in advance on the first (1st) day of each month of January, April, July and October. Assessments that are not paid by the 10th day of the month in which they are due are deemed past due. Assessments that are not paid by the 10th day of the month in which they are due will bear interest at the highest rate allowed by law not to exceed the rate of 18 percent per year from the due date until the date they are paid. In addition, a late charge of the greater of $25.00 or five percent (5%) of the amount of the delinquent installment will be charged if the assessment is not paid by the 20th day of the month in which they are due. The Association will send a reminder notice to owners on the 10th day of the month when the assessment is due notifying the owner that if payment of the assessment is not received on or before the 21st day of the month in which the assessment is due, the member will be considered to be not in good standing. Members that are not in good standing will have their right to use the amenities suspended, pursuant to the provisions of Article 6.2 of the Declaration of Covenants. Additionally, members that have past due accounts in excess of ninety (90) days are not qualified to vote, pursuant to the provisions of Article 3, Section 4 of the Bylaws. The Association will send a forty five (45) day Notice of Intent to Lien to each owner who has not paid the quarterly assessments on the 21st day of the month in which the assessment is due. If the account is not brought current within the forty five (45) day period, the Association will turn the past due account over to the attorney for preparation and recording of a claim of lien against the property. The attorney will prepare a forty five (45) day Notice of Intent to Foreclose Lien to the owner of each past due account. After written notice by the attorney of the expiration of the forty five (45) day Notice of Intent to Foreclose Lien, the Board President or the manager will determine if the Association will proceed with the filing of a lien foreclosure action against the owner of the past due account. Once the account is turned over to the attorney, the owner will be responsible for all costs and attorneys fees incurred by the Association in collecting the amounts due in addition to the unpaid assessments, interest and late fees. Any payment received by the Association will be applied first to any interest accrued, then to any late fee, then to any costs and attorney's fees incurred in collection, and then to the delinquent assessment. The Association will make reasonable efforts to comply with the provisions set forth in this collection policy. However, the Association reserves the right to deviate from these provisions when reasonably necessary to protect the interests of the Association provided that such deviation complies with existing law. Any deviation from these provisions shall not relieve any owner of their obligation to fully pay any of the amounts owed on the property.

DO NOT COVER UP UTILITY BOXES WITH YARD DEBRIS Recently there was a TGO property where a lot of tree pruning and other yard debris had been deposited for pick up by the CSA crew. There was so much debris that the crew brought out a tractor equipped with a claw attachment to help collect it all. When the tractor operator grasped the first bunch he sensed an unusually heavy drag on the equipment. That was because all the debris had been heaped on top of the telephone utility junction box, obscuring it from view. Fortunately, the operator’s skill prevented many nearby properties from being left without telephone service.

The moral of this story is to please be aware of where you are placing debris and to not cover any utility or sprinkler control boxes that could get damaged as a result.

DID YOU CHECK THE CALENDAR? Before you call the Plantation Manor CSA Office (321-264-2393) to reserve a time for your activity in a TGO building, it’s better to first check the TGO Community Calendar on the website. You’ll be able to see if the room is available when you need it and if not, what other options you may have to make a suitable reservation. The website is www.tgocsa.org and the TGO Community Calendar is on the home page. Just below the heading is a drop-down menu where you click on ▼ so you can see what has been scheduled at specific TGO buildings. Next to that menu are drop-down menus to select a specific Month and Year.

CSA Trash Pick-Up Rules The CSA crew picks up household trash 365 days of the year. You’ll see them in a truck pulling one or more green hoppers behind it. The guy crouching on the hopper grabs your trash bag as they pass by. To make the collection process efficient, please follow these important rules: • Break down all boxes and put all packing material in a closed bag. • Close all trash bags with twist ties or the integrated drawstrings that some trash bags have. • Tie bags together if they are all light in weight. • Place trash within 1 foot of the road so that it’s within easy reach. • Dispose of your pet’s waste inside the closed trash bag.

Do not allow pets to urinate on trash or debris. The crew has to pick this up!

• Put trash out at the curb by 10:00 A.M. Pick-up time varies in the resort. • Do not mix household trash with organic yard debris or construction materials. • Do not put trash out at night because by morning it will have been scattered by wild animals.

CSA Yard Debris Pick-Up Rules The CSA crew picks up organic yard debris at least once per week. Tree trimmings should be cut down to a maximum of 4 feet long, weigh less than 50 pounds, and be stacked uniformly at the curb. Loose material such as pine needles, leaves and small twigs must be collected in untied plastic bags or open containers. The CSA will not pick up sod, dirt, tree stumps, construction material (e.g., concrete, wood, drywall, metal), chemicals (e.g., paint, oil), furniture, major appliances, or tires. DO NOT dispose of these items at the CSA Maintenance Yard yourself. They may be dropped off, without charge, at the Brevard County Mockingbird Mulching Facility (321-264-5009) on South Street (SR405). Go past the Lowe’s SR405 entrance then turn LEFT at the first traffic signal. Most other waste items such as carpet, furniture, porcelain plumbing fixtures, that are not mentioned above can be dropped off at the Brevard County Transfer Station (321-264-5048) that is also on South Street (SR405), but is just one-half mile past Lowe’s on the same side of the street.

30-DAY MAIL HOLD POLICY at the CSA MAIL FACILITY We will be happy to hold your mail for 30 days at no cost. Any period of time over 30 days will cost $5.00 per week. You cannot have us hold mail for 30 days, then come in to pick it up and put it on another 30-day hold, free of charge. If you have any questions about this Mail Facility policy, please come to the window and we will discuss any concerns that you may have.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS VACANCY The CSA Board of Directors has a vacancy for District 9. If your TGO property address ends in a “9” and you are interested in serving on the board, please apply for appointment by the Board of Directors to fill this vacancy. Submit a resume with your qualifications and reasons for seeking appointment to this position to the CSA Office, 100-D Plantation Drive, Titusville, FL 32780 before Tuesday, October 1. The board will consider all applications and make the District 9 representative appointment at the Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, October 16. When appointed, the new District 9 representative will serve approximately four months until the next scheduled election in January 2014 is conducted. At that time, an election will be held for the District 9 representative and for the even-numbered districts. The previously appointed individual is allowed to run for election to serve the last year of the District 9 term until the regularly scheduled January 2015 election is conducted for all the odd-numbered districts.

GET YOUR VIAL OF LIFE

Brevard County Fire-Rescue provides “Vial of Life” containers to the CSA free of charge to give to TGO residents. The “Vial of Life” container will store your vital medical information on a standard form for the paramedics to read when they respond to a medical emergency. Reading the patient’s information when they arrive helps EMT personnel know very quickly if there is any specialized treatment that might be necessary. A sticker is included to post near the residence entrance so that paramedics know that you have a “Vial of Life.” Visit the Plantation Manor CSA Office to pick up a “Vial of Life” container for your home. 7

YARD TREATMENT SCHEDULE Horizon Pest Services will be treating the yards in TGO with insecticide and fertilizer every month plus herbicide for weeds during the cooler months. The schedule for TGO streets is: Even-Numbered Months Fawn, Hospitality, Lake, Narrow, Oak Cove, and Plantation. Odd-Numbered Months Addison, Ambleside, Baytree, Bowfin, Butterfly, Club Cove, Coach Club, Dragonfly, Fairways, Grande Haven, Greenwing, Harmony, Pineridge, Sunset, Twin Lakes, and Windsong. TITUSVILLE TOURIST BOOKLET Even though we live at the “Gateway to Nature and Space” it’s still helpful to know Titusville information that is contained in this full-color booklet available at the main CSA Office. Come by and pick up a copy.

LOCAL PHONE BOOKS The CSA Office has new telephone directories for the Titusville area that covers as far east as Cocoa Beach and south to Rockledge. Just ask the staff for a copy.

VIEW & PRINT CONDO DOCs ON-LINE The Great Outdoors has eighteen condominiums and one homeowners association, all with their own separate versions of official documents. The CSA doesn’t stock copies of these documents to give out, however Florida Statutes do require owners to provide them to a purchaser when they sell their TGO property. This is important because a new owner needs to know the official rules for living at The Great Outdoors. To help owners comply with the Florida Statutes, the CSA website now has all these documents available on-line for viewing and you can print them for yourself or any new owners. From the www.tgocsa.org website home page, scroll down the left side menu to the title for Condominium/HOA Information and click on it. The next page that appears contains links to a list of the Cluster Association Officers for 2013 and all the Condo/HOA documents.

If you bring your portable FM radio to Thursday Movie Night and tune it to 93.5 you can listen to the movie sound right through your radio’s headphones. The advantages to this method are that you control the volume to a level just right for you and wearing the headphones tends to block out unwanted noise that may occur around you. NATURE CENTER MEETINGS

Monthly Communications Meetings resume on November 6 and will continue on the first Wednesday of each month through April 2014. Time is 2 PM; location is THE NATURE CENTER. Everyone is invited to attend and learn about the great events planned for this season.

There have been several instances where bees have been swarming in owners’ sheds or landscaping. This is high pollination time and typically bees are moving around and swarming. They will stay in one area for a day or so and then move on until they find someplace to build a hive. Since honeybees are in trouble, we try to save as many as we can. If indeed they seem to be building a hive, then a bee-keeper can be called in to remove the bees. They have to be able to access the queen in order to remove the hive. FERAL HOG PROBLEM We are presently having a hog problem due to the high waters in the St. Johnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s River. Approximately 80 lots have been affected. All wild hogs have an excellent sense of smell and good hearing, but relatively poor vision. They are extremely intelligent and can detect if danger is near. The hogs root and dig for food below the surface of the ground, thus wreaking havoc on our landscaping. They are looking for worms, grubs, roots, tubers, etc. To help with the problem, the trapper for the golf course (Denny) has been running his dogs in the evening. So far they have caught a number of hogs, with more still out there. The best way to catch the hogs is using dogs. They are friendly and well-behaved with special collars and GPS units mounted on each dog. Some of the dogs will have protective vests to keep them from harm.* Once on the property, they are released and take off into the woods and marshland. They are trained to circle in a loop, hunting for a scent trail. They follow the scent trail until they catch up with a hog. They then corner the hog and start baying (barking). The trappers follow the GPS signal to where the dogs are located. The dogs are able to contain the hog by grabbing onto its ears. Once the trapper arrives, they are able to grapple with the hog and tie up its feet. Then they can safely remove the hog. Here are some pictures taken during one outing. The CSA has now built hog traps for use in our community and they have been successful in trapping hogs.

BE SAFE WHEN WALKING, BICYCLING or operating other People-Powered Vehicles (PPV)

ON TGO ROADS Please remember to walk single file facing the traffic so you can see any vehicles that are approaching you. After dark, carry a flashlight. Wearing reflective or light-colored clothing is also a good thing to do. Bicyclists or other PPV operators should ride single file with the traffic and be equipped with a bright headlight and flashing red taillight when riding after dark. Bike reflectors are simply not visible enough. Make sure you can be seen by all the motorized vehicles in The Great Outdoors!

A Flashing Personal Light is an important accessory to use if you walk or ride in the dark. Modern L.E.D. lights are small, easy to carry and can be seen from a long distance away.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS EVACUATION PLAN If a mandatory evacuation of The Great Outdoors is ordered by Brevard County TGO authorities, the following plan will be used along with the Emergency Traffic Plan map that is displayed on billboards at locations in this community and also on our www.tgocsa.org website under the Emergency Information heading. Here is the Evacuation Plan: The CSA will notify residents of this situation by using the Mass Notification System and the Community Channel on TV. The CSA Manager and his staff will form an evacuation team equipped with emergency radios. They will be stationed at designated road intersections throughout The Great Outdoors, shown as numbers 1-9 on the map. If a fire truck, ambulance or any other emergency vehicle is needed within TGO, the CSA team will coordinate its entry. Powered vehicles only, without having towed vehicles or trailers attached, are to be used for mandatory evacuation occasions. If you wish to leave TGO with anything in-tow, you must do so before mandatory evacuation orders have been issued.

TGO Waste Water Treatment Plant Using WWTP-Friendly RV Holding Tank Chemicals Over the years we have had problems with our Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) due to some common chemicals used in RV holding tanks. These chemicals kill the beneficial bacteria that are necessary for the WWTP to function. When this happens we must pump out the WWTP and have the wastewater hauled away at a cost of about $1,000 per 6,000 gallon tanker load. This expense quickly adds up. In 2006, the Community Services Association had to spend over $200,000 in hauling and other costs in order to restore the WWTP to proper operation. If you lived at TGO back then, your wallet may recall this resulted in a special assessment of $150 per site. What can you do? Make certain that you do not use any RV holding tank treatments that contain any of the chemicals listed below. If your RV holding tank currently contains any of these chemicals, use the official dump station near the rally lot, not your home or RV site sewer system. AVOID RV TANK TREATMENTS THAT CONTAIN THESE CHEMICALS: ACTIVE INGREDIENT

Para-dichlorobenzene (common ingredient in mothballs, urinal cakes, and toilet bowl fresheners)

Known carcinogen(1) and drinking water contaminant; moderately toxic to humans.
