The COVID restrictions are now relaxing and travelling and working in presence will be easier from May. We expect the Country to welcome more tourist to boost the economy and our Chamber is engaged with the top Thai institutions, Hospital and Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to monitor the situation and promote more and more.

In this issue, I would like to express my gratitude to the contributors and members who provide us the article of the Informa. Finally, I would like to confirm my strong support and encouragement to all our members and affected Thai institutions as Thailand is still fighting the backlashes of the COVID. ABOUT US The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce (TICC) is a private, non-profit organization which has a network of companies from all around the world but mostly focusing on Italian and Thai companies with its headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand.

THE 44TH TICC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

BANGKOK, 27 April 2022 - The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce (TICC) hosted the “44th Annual General Meeting” on Wednesday, 27 April 2022 at Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok.

The opening was delivered by TICC President Mr. Federico Cardini, followed by H. E. Lorenzo Galanti, Ambassador of Italy to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia and Prof. Romeo Orlandi, Vice President of the Italy ASEAN Association.

Mr. Michele Tomea, TICC Secretary General has reported the Financial Statements for 2021 and the TICC 2021’s Activities, the Members Review and compared the successful development of TICC through the year.

At the event attended more than 100 companies, representatives of the business community network of Italy and Thailand.

THE OPENING OF THAI HERBS AND PHARMACOPEIA PROJECT 2022 On April 1, 2022 - The Thai-Italian Chamber of Commerce, TICC, and the Department of Traditional Alternative Medicine, DTAM, of the Thai Ministry of Health have celebrated the official opening of the promotion of Thai Herbs and Pharmacopeia Project 2022 in the Conference Hall of Vanit Building II. Dr. Monthaka Teerachaisakul Director at the Department of Traditional alternative Medicine of the Ministry of Thailand opened the ceremony opened the ceremony. After, the TICC Secretary General Mr. Michele Tomea visited the twelve companies ‘booths, were he met several producers of herbal products, aiming to export to Italy and Europe with the support of the Chamber.

Among the participants, we mention: FOUR MINDS Co., Ltd., NAMWAHPOWDER Co., Ltd., ROYAL SPICE AND HERB CO., LTD, Community Enterprise, Planting and Processing Group, Ban Thung Pam Organic Agriculture, TCFF Co., Ltd., Specialty Natural Products Co., Ltd., PMH Co., Ltd., AVA Plant Co., Ltd., Pharma Alliance Co., Ltd., ITHAI CORPORATION Co., Ltd., Chommpinn Co., Ltd., GOLDEN RAY Co., Ltd., The project aims to put Italian import/distribution companies, SPAs, nutritionists, pharmacists, and universities in contact with new products requested by the Italian and European consumers.

The Chamber of Commerce aims to select, promote, and bring products made from Thai Industries to the Italian market as alternative botanical food supplements, and herbal medicine as new products.

Furthermore, the TICC is planning a series of 12 webinars to promote Thai herbal medicine used in the field of raw materials in cosmetics, food ingredients and medical supplements.

The calendar will start from the end of April for three months until the beginning of July 2022.

The TICC will interview twelve companies specialized in the use of herbs for body care, food supplements, medicines, and cosmetics each month. We will be talking about innovation and traditional use of the ingredients to better inform new buyers The topics touched upon in the webinars will be grouped into three categories - Botanical Supplement - Raw material - SPA – herbs for thermal use Each appointment enhances the experience of twelve entrepreneurs and their companies in an interview (of about 60 minutes) in which it will also be possible to ask questions at the end of the session. Finally, the registration will be uploaded to the YouTube Channel of the Chamber of Commerce: https://www.youtube. com/channel/UC54rSC1596BIBdiKqScZYwQ At the end July, The Ministry of Health of Thailand will bring the companies to exhibit in the International Horticultural EXPO Floriade Almere (Amsterdam, NL) under the Thai Pavilion for 6 months starting from 14 April to the 9 October 2022.

The last edition of TUTTOFOOD was held from 22 to 26 October 2021 at Fieramilano alongside HostMilano, the international exhibition dedicated to food service and hospitality, and MEAT-TECH, the event dedicated to meat processing and ready meals technologies. The 2021 edition gathered 1,421 exhibitors, 233 of which international from 31 countries. The most represented countries include France, Spain, Greece, the Netherlands, Belgium, followed by Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries and Eastern Europe. From outside Europe, interesting presences were registered from the Middle East and North and South America, and also from Indonesia. As to international buyers, delegations from 66 countries took part in the exhibition, also thanks to the ongoing support of the Italian Trade Agency, which works with TUTTOFOOD in profiling and researching new operators. High attendance was registered in particular from the United States, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Russia and France.

Thanks to its constant dialogue with Italian and international key players, TUTTOFOOD is able to identify current and future grocery trends. As we are approaching the next appointment with the

The Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project at Sirindhorn Dam underscores EGAT’s endeavors in this role by means of combining solar and hydropower in a hybrid system. Basically, the solar farm at Sirindhorn Dam generates power during the day when there is sufficient light intensity. But when solar production is constrained by low light intensity and during night time, the hydropower kicks in to supplement the electricity supply shortfall. This supplementation also applies during the period of high demand for electricity, or in peak times, to enhance the efficiency of electricity generation.

This hybrid system, one of the largest of its kind in the world, takes the form of a 45-MW floating solar farm occupying an area of about 450 rai, accounting for 1% of the surface area of Sirindhorn Dam reservoir. It takes advantage of already existing facilities such as the transmission line and substations. As the project makes the most of existing resources, this reduces the cost of electricity generation.

The solar panels used for the project are of a double-glass type that withstands high humidity, does not release contaminants into the water, and is safe to use. The buoys, on which the solar panels are mounted, are made from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), the same material used to produce water supply pipes, and is environmentally friendly. Certain sections allow air to flow into the water surface while light penetrates underwater. The floating solar farm helps to curb greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) that cause global warming, to the tune of about 47,000 tons a year, equivalent to planting 37,600 rai of forest (according to EGAT’s research), while reducing imports of fuel for power generation.

Meanwhile, based on the project’s feasibility study report, installing the solar farm over the water surface reduces water evaporation by as much as 460,000 cubic meters a year.

The project entails adoption of an Energy Management System (EMS), an advanced technology that efficiently controls the dispatch of electrical power from both generating sources.

Ensuring uninterrupted production reduces the supply uncertainty of renewable energy and strengthens the security of the country’s power supplies. The floating solar power system has already been synchronized with the grid and started its commercial operation on October 31, 2021.

Besides providing benefits in the form of clean energy, the Hydro-Floating Solar Hybrid Project at Sirindhorn Dam serves as a public learning center for integrated renewable energy. EGAT has cooperated with Ubon Ratchathani Province to turn the project’s

neighborhood into a new tourism spot in the province. The main attraction is a Nature Walkway, an arrangement of skywalk corridors rising 5-10 meters above the ground. This multi-purpose construction allows visitors to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the floating solar farm surrounded by trees. This tourism initiative will not only help create jobs and raise incomes for local people sustainably, but will also support the province’s economy as a whole.

In undertaking the project, EGAT is contributing to the Power Development Fund based on rates specified by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). The communities can use the funds for local developments in relation to quality of life, occupations, agriculture, education, and health. EGAT also places great importance on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities that support promotion of occupations in local communities. Support for groups engaged in fishing, hand-woven fabrics and dyeing, minnow cultivation, bamboo basketry, and rafting are enabling the communities to be more sustainable and self-sufficient.

EGAT is committed to developing innovations to overcome the limitations of renewable energy. From the achievement of the hybrid project at Sirindhorn Dam, EGAT has continued to implement this kind of project at EGAT’s nine dams nationwide. Altogether these will yield 2,725 MW in installed generating capacity. Adding to the 5-year corporate income tax exemption available to investments in charging stations with at least 40 chargers, 25% of which are DC type, the revised measures now allow smaller charging stations to be eligible to 3-year tax benefits, Ms. Duangjai Asawachintachit, Secretary General of the BOI, told reporters.

The revised measures also abolish two requirements, namely the condition barring investors to receive additional benefits from other agencies, and the requirement for ISO certification. These two conditions are no longer relevant given that some chargers could be installed in other establishments such as hotels and condominiums, not necessarily at typical charging stations.

Moreover, in order to ensure rapid expansion of charging facilities, a combination of several support measures may be required.

Charging station investors are now only required to adhere to the relevant safety regulations and to submit either a plan to implement an EV Smart Charging System or to connect to an EV Charging Network Operator Platform which is to be developed as a central mechanism to create an efficient management for both operators and battery electric vehicle (BEV) users.

“We have listened to the EV-related investors’ concerns and revised the measures to ensure that our incentives stay relevant in a fast-changing business environment. This will enable investors, particularly SMEs and startups to have more access to BOI benefits, and manage their costs more effectively,” said Ms. Duangjai, who was speaking after a board meeting chaired by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha.

The BOI already provides comprehensive incentives to the EV sector’s supply chain, with measures to promote the manufacturing of both complete vehicles and essential parts.

First Quarter Investment Applications Total 110.7 Billion Baht Ms. Duangjai reported to the board that the total value of foreign and local investment promotion applications during the first quarter of 2022 showed a slight decline in combined value due to the impact of the global geopolitical and economic challenges, partly softened by a small rise in the number of project applications.

During the January to March period, the BOI received applications for investment promotion worth a total of 110.7 billion baht (USD 3.4 billion), a decrease of 6% when compared with the same period last year. The number of applications, 378 projects, represented an increase of 1% over the year earlier quarter.
