A series of posters inspired by the European Migrant Crisis when a rising number of refugees and immigrants made the journey to Europe from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq to seek asylum and a better life for themselves.

DESCRIPTION

Since April 2015, the countries that are used as passageways to Europe are struggling to cope with the situation. Meanwhile, the rest of Europe is passively ignoring what's happening, not fully realizing the importance of the matter. No significant help was offered, the number of drownings and people lost in the sea was growing by the hour. Europe is “making tea” and requesting of the rest of the world to keep quiet.

741,838 refugees and immigrants have arrived in the span of 9 months to the coasts of Greece and Italy. The refugees all expect Europe to be the “promised land”, but unfortunately the reality is not that simple. They have to deal with extreme racism, poor living conditions and physical and emotional abuse. Many of the refugees can't even make it through to their final destination, since the journey itself has proven to be very challenging and tiring. Several serious accidents and deaths occur every day due to migrant smuggling both in the Mediterranean Sea and on European soil.

52.487 refugees are trapped in Greece, as many countries in the EU are closing their borders with wired fences and strong military forces. Meanwhile the agreement between the EU and Turkey is failing due to the repercussions of the Turkish coup. All these refugees are asking for an opportunity to live in peace and with dignity but the current conditions make this near impossible.

DESCRIPTION

The illustration was created after the events of the 13th November, the terrorist attacks that occurred in Paris and Lebanon. Immediately after that, a state of emergency was declared in Europe and the rest of the world. The result was to cause fear and despair to the masses, which resulted in the creation of a web that “captured” hope in its path and made us aware of the enemy that might be right next to us.

DESCRIPTION

The next day of the referendum put Eurozone’s members in deep thoughts. Discussions for a new multibillion-euro bailout for Greece started again. The Greek government had to negotiate with European Union institutions and the International Monetary Fund for up to €86bn (£61bn) in fresh loans to stave off economic collapse and stay in the Eurozone. The bailout should be in place by the 20th of August when Greece had a repayment falling due to the European Central Bank. Negotiations between Greece and Eurozone members continued in the following days, while the main question of whethere Greece should stay or not in Eurozone remained.

The feelings of fear and of uncertainty were apparent. The politicians from both sides didn’t have a certain plan. Finally on July 13, after 17 hours of negotiations, Eurozone leaders reached a provisional agreement on a third bailout programme to save Greece from bankruptcy.

MORE

The poster we designed was a comment for the Greek Referendum, which was announced from the Greek prime minister on the 27th of June 2015.

DESCRIPTION

Voters were asked whether to approve or not the austerity measures, during the Eurogroup meeting, from the country’s creditors: the European Commission (EC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Central Bank (ECB). Greeks had to choose between the refusal of the austerity measures, which could lead to a Grexit and the acceptance of these bailout conditions, which were strict and deterrent for the country’s economic growth.

Our take on the Greek referendum is inspired from René Magritte. The illustration focuses on a man, hanging from somebody (unknown) who has the power in his hands. This man is the Greek voter. He is asked to give a response to a vague question, since the referendum was nothing but faulty and invalid. Both outcomes would result in another bailout deal and that would in its turn stress further the depressed economy, without promising a solution in order to shrink the dept. Thus, the title “This is not a referendum” is the best way to describe this political propaganda, which had no impact at all regarding the decisions our country’s creditors.

DESCRIPTION

All the important battles are being fought at school, the primary example of a small scale community. School acts as a reflection of whatever happens in our society. Students are the main victims of the Economic Crisis in Greece, as they suffer from malnutrition. 64% of the families have very low or no income. This combined with the significant cuts in wages has severe consequences. Due to the lack of nourishment, children are absent from school more often and in some cases, they leave school altogether. At least 18% are absent due to health reasons. But apart from the health problems that can be caused, this lowers Greece’s intellectual potential and may have terrible consequences for the country’s future.

E N V IRONM ENT DESCRIPTION

The poster was inspired by the COP21 conference that took place in Paris. COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations, aimed to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C. Climate change poses as an imminent threat for the fate of our civilization and our planet, and in the last few decades we’ve failed to contain it or find a viable solution. COP21 promises a global alliance for the environment, but is that really enough? The truth is that no, this is not enough. We need to do much more and change our entire way of living in order to ensure this planet’s wellbeing. But most important, we need to realize that our connection to our environment is too powerful. As it fades away, so do we.
