CULTURAL INFLUENCES Singapore is a country famous for its rich ethnic diversity: Chinese, Malay, and Indian cultures with a strong British colonial influence. This project is a manifestation of architectural elements and the use of furniture and materials that demonstrate the constrast of volume versus ornamentation, of layers versus intricacy in these cultures’ traditional fashion. Completed: Sophomore Year Location: Marina Bay, Singapore Type: Group Project

Inspired by the release and compression of the dress, the X structures are elaborated in different ways to define the interior spaces. They also act as functional shelvings for the Quiet Lounge and an important element of the custom elevator wall. Furniture and materials options are selected from Christopher Guy, Ligne Roset, Hstudio, Designtex and Maharam.

PARTS, ASSEMBLIES, & MATERIAL PROPERTIES 1/4 (2 gauge) aluminum Pieces (hexagons, pentagons) are created using water jet cutting and welded together to form a flat pattern, 1/4 geodesic dome, and full geodesic dome. (some used for suspended ceiling lights)
SIZES 2ft., 4ft., 6ft. diameters ( when fully constructed geodesic domes)
A more complex design is applied to the Fine Dining Hall on the hotel’s second level. The restaurant features a sculptural metal art installation that tells a story of Singaporean cultural diversity. The installation becomes a subtle wayfinding method, concentrating at the buffet area, the bar, entertainment stage, and the elevator vestibule. The pattern carved on these metal pieces is inspired by the gilding technique used on Southest Asian traditional clothings and jewelries.
