Hello and welcome to our digital programme – while you’re at home staying safe, myself and the team will be at Deeside this evening preparing another game in accordance with all guidelines. Making these games safe for all involved is a big task, but it’s vital and I’m fortunate to have excellent staff helping us stay secure. Tonight brings its own challenges as our first night game of the season, but we’re ready to go once again just as the lads will be tonight. Being undefeated after three games so far, and having played in Europe between them, is fantastic and a reflection of what we can achieve under the guidance of Andy, Jay, Craig and with this team. Despite the uncertain times, they haven’t flinched at all the extra work involved which is surely a mark of their champion status. A warm welcome to all officials and players of Aberystwyth Town tonight who have made the long journey up to Deeside. They will be right at it from the off, but so will we and I think we’ll be in for another entertaining encounter this evening.

NOMADS LOOK TO EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN WITH VISIT OF ABER Wednesday night will see Connah’s Quay Nomads look to extend our unbeaten start to the season as we welcome Aberystwyth Town to Deeside Stadium. The Nomads head into the game in fine form, having picked up seven points from our opening three games, with an opening day draw with Bala followed up by successive victories over Penybont and Haverfordwest in the past week. Aber’s form Aber head into the game currently sitting in sixth position in the early league table, having gained five points from their opening four games, with a victory over Flint and draws against Newtown and Penybont, having lost to Cardiff Met on the opening day. Aber’s last visit to Deeside The last time that Aberystwyth made the journey north to Deeside Stadium saw a 4-1 victory for Andy Morrison’s side, little over a year ago. Goals from Callum Morris, Ryan Wignall, Michael Bakare and Declan Poole gave The Nomads all three points on the night. Connah's Quay Nomads vs Aberystwyth Town 5

NOMADS DEFEAT BLUEBIRDS TO STAY UNBEATEN Connah’s Quay Nomads defeated Haverfordwest County by four goals to one at the Bridge Meadow Stadium in the JD Cymru Premier. A Craig Curran double, plus goals from Aeron Edwards and Declan Poole, saw Nomads take all three points in South Wales on Sunday afternoon. • New signing Brayden Shaw announced pre-game • Craig Curran opened scoring before Pemberton equalised • Curran secured brace in second half to send Nomads back in front • Edwards and Poole convert to secure Connah’s Quay’s victory The game marked Nomads’ third encounter of the JD Cymru Premier season so far, and their first trip to Haverfordwest since a JD Welsh Cup fourth round clash in 2017. Craig Curran led the line for Nomads with Aeron Edwards supporting from the midfield, and Priestley Farquharson again captaining Connah’s Quay as George Horan along with Jamie Insall remained out with injuries. Andy Morrison’s squad also included a new signing for The Nomads, as ex-Bangor City forward Brayden Shaw was announced shortly before the match and started on the bench. Hosts Haverfordwest County meanwhile named a lineup featuring stalwart captain Sean Pemberton, Danny Williams and goalkeeper Steve Hall. 6
Connah's Quay Nomads vs Aberystwyth Town
The Nomads could have been ahead within the opening minute as Sameron Dool went through 1-on-1, however slotted his effort just wide of the Haverfordwest goal, but the few watching on at the behind-closed-doors fixture only had to wait until the 10th for the opening goal. A powerful strike from Danny Davies on the edge of the box couldn’t be held by Hall, who parried the ball into the path of Curran, who was able to slot home from inside the six yard box to give The Nomads an important early lead. Building on this opener, Andy Morrison’s side went on to dominate much of the half, creating good chances to get a second when Aeron Edwards jumped highest to head towards goal, only to see his effort saved low by ‘keeper Hall in the 20th. Just three minutes later and a period of pressure in the Haverfordwest final third gave Dool a chance to shoot with his left foot from the edge of the box, but the chance went over the bar as The Nomads continued to push forward. The Nomads’ defence was rarely seriously tested until half an hour into the first half, when Haverfordwest won a corner ball which led to a free kick near the corner flag. The result free kick hit the post but was converted on the rebound by Pemberton who ensured, despite The Nomads’ strong performance, the scores were level at 1-1 at half time. Andy Morrison brought Danny Holmes on in place of Callum Roberts at half time and the second half started with a flurry of action, with Palmer seeing a big opportunity go begging in the 46th minute with a header which went wide from seemingly underneath The Nomads’ crossbar. At the other end, Sameron Dool and Declan Poole were linking up well, whilst Danny Davies was proving effective on the left wing. Davies again played his part on 51 minutes when a shot from the edge of the area ricocheted up near Curran who was waiting to poach a strike from close range, and did just that to retake the lead for the travelling Nomads. A quick-fire strike then saw Aeron Edwards make it 3-1 on 53 minutes, as after a surging run up the midfield and a through ball from Dool was knocked to him Davies, he was able to slot home from seven yards to officially open his Nomads account. The fourth and final goal of the day went to Declan Poole who was also able to convert from around six yards in the 73rd after taking advantage of a cross-cum-shot across the goal from Aron Williams, who had come on as substitute for John Disney. As the game entered its latter stages, Poole then departed to make way for Brayden Shaw to make his Nomads debut, but he unfortunatley was forced to leave the match just minutes after his entry with a groin strain. After Lewis Brass comfortably dealt with some last-ditch comeback efforts from Haverfordwest, full time confirmed Nomads could travel back to Deeside with a well-deserved JD Cymru Premier victory.

NOMADS DRAW WITH LAKESIDERS IN CLASH AT BALA
1-0
Owens (32’)
JD Cymru Premier Sunday 20th September 2020 Deeside Stadium, Connah’s Quay, Wales
NOMADS DEFEAT PENYBONT AT DEESIDE
A solitary Kris Owens strike was enough to give Connah’s Quay Nomads victory over Penybont in the JD Cymru Premier at Deeside on Sunday afternoon. • Declan Poole hit crossbar early on • Kris Owens’ strike sent Nomads ahead in first half • Even second half saw both sides battle for possession • Nomads secure first win of JD Cymru Premier season The game followed Nomads’ Europa League clash with Dinamo Tbilisi, in which they had bravely battled to the verge of extra time before a 97th minute penalty cruelly sent them out of the competition. It was their second JD Cymru Premier encounter of the season, having opened their campaign at Deeside in the previous week, where an injury time goal was also crucial as a 25 yard effort from Sameron Dool sealed a 1-1 with Bala Town. Andy Morrison made one change from Thursday’s line up as his squad selection continued to be limited by injuries and positive COVID-19 results. With Jamie Insall injured, Craig Curran led the line for Nomads, backed by Aeron Edwards with Priestley Farquharson again donning the captain’s armband. The visiting Penybont meanwhile named a starting eleven including captain Kane Owen, ex Cardiff Met man Sam Snaith and forward Connor Davies. The game started brightly, with Penybont attacking the Nomads end within two minutes, but without getting a shot away thanks to John Disney retaking possession. 8
Connah's Quay Nomads vs Aberystwyth Town
Nomads’ first chance came just four minutes in, when Declan Poole sent a close range effort off the crossbar as he looked to test ex-Bala keeper Ashley Morris. Connah’s Quay were soon taking control of the game as they began to dominate the possession, seeing a number of throw ins from Farquharson target the Penybont end with 15 minutes played. Despite this pressure, Rhys Griffiths’ well drilled defence was keeping Nomads out as Craig Curran looked to open the scoring in the 18th with a header from eight yards which went wide, but won a corner kick. Nomads continued to utilise set pieces well, seen on 22 minutes when Danny Davies sent a free kick up to Dool on the edge of the area who got away from surrounding defenders with good footwork to drag a shot wide from 18 yards. Kris Owens was also putting in a great shift on the left wing to create chances, and had one of his own in the 24th when he got a good position inside the Penybont area to head just wide. But his efforts did pay off, as he sent Nomads ahead in the 32nd minute. Lewis Brass found Aeron Edwards in the final third from a goal kick, with Edwards passing to Owens who found space on the left and stepped forward to fire a low shot in from 18 yards. Andy Morrison urged his side to continue attacking before the break, and they were playing much of their football in the Penybont half by the time the interval came. The second half started, like the first, in bright fashion with both teams immediately battling for the ball in the air. One of the first chances after the restart came on 53 minutes when Penybont’s Mael Davies sent a 23 yard effort goalwards which sailed wide. With an hour played little had changed, with Nomads and Penybont locked in a battle for possession that saw major chances go few and far between. Connah’s Quay were still looking to set pieces to seal their much-sought after second goal, and Danny Davies tried to find it on 73 minutes, hitting a half volley over Ashley Morris’ goal following a throw in. With 15 minutes to play Andy Morrison made a change, replacing Callum Roberts with Aron Williams as Nomads looked to stay organised against a Penybont side still very much in the game. In the 78th, they saw a great chance to make it 2-0 when a corner kick from Dool connected with a header from Curran which clattered the crossbar at close range for the second time in the game. As the game entered its final ten minutes, Nomads were in control but wary of the threat of Penybont whose sights were set on an equaliser. However, Lewis Brass was there to stop them, as he got his body down to the left of his goal to stop a ball bundling towards him after a high ball from the visitors on 85 minutes. There was more late danger for Nomads to deal with, as in the 88th Billy Borge headed a long throw in just over the Connah’s Quay goal. The fourth official indicated a minimum of six minutes’ injury time, but Nomads kept their composure to professionally see the game off, with the likes of Aeron Edwards using his experience to keep the ball near Penybont’s left corner flag. After a series of set pieces for Nomads kept them in control, referee John Jones blew his whistle to confirm a home victory for Andy Morrison’s side. Connah's Quay Nomads vs Aberystwyth Town 9
A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall
We’re three games into the JD Cymru Premier season, and despite these extraordinary times it’s business as usual for Nomads as we’re undefeated so far and looking to extend that run tonight. Bala Town was the first game, and it took a late, great strike from Sameron Dool to secure a good 1-1- draw against a side that will challenge us and others plenty of times this season. Next up, a hard fought 1-0 win against Penybont which came after one of the club’s most difficult weeks in living memory after going toe to toe with Dinamo Tbilsi with just 14 players after an injury and illness crisis left us heavily depleted. The stats will show the win against Penybont as an unremarkable one, but it took a massive effort on and off the pitch to get through that week, and we were rewarded with a win at the end of it. Now, more players are back, and they returned with a bang at Haverfordwest County on Sunday. It’s the longest journey of any fixture in the league this season, and the Bluebirds make it difficult for everyone at Bridge Meadow Stadium. Considering what we’ve been through already this season, our 4-1 victory there was a real statement as we really put them to the sword with an especially dominant second half performance. No one really knows what the rest of this season looks like, with games still behind closed doors and much of Wales, including Flintshire, currently in local lockdowns. However, it’s great to see how much we feature in the latest round of Sgorio fixtures. Five of our seven games feature live either on Sgorio or on live stream: Caernarfon (H), TNS (A), Barry (A) Newtown (H) and TNS again, at home. It must be a perk of being the Champions to have this type of attention on us, and it’s very welcome as a way of ensuring fans don’t miss out on watching the action. As always, we’ll be making statements in line with guidance with regards to fans returning so keep an eye on our socials and website as usual. Score Prediction: Nomads 3-1 Aberystwyth Town Player of the Week: Craig Curran The man with the golden touch, he got two trophies from just six games last season, winning the Nathaniel MG Cup and JD Cymru Premier. That campaign may have been short lived, but his contribution was significant as his goal against TNS to nick a 1-0 win against them back in February 2020 which made all the difference in clinching the title. He proved his worth yet again on Sunday bagging a brace, and there’s plenty more to come from him this season.
