CAN NOMADS CLOSE THE GAP AT THE TOP? Tonight’s game will see The Nomads look to close the gap at the top of the table to The New Saints following our recent great run of form which has seen us climb to second in the table. Having won our last five league games without conceding a single goal, our run has been outstanding, no more evident than with Andy Firth’s dramatic stoppage time penalty save against Penybont last weekend and since arriving at Deeside Firth has now kept a total of eight clean sheets in 11 league games. Newtown come to Deeside on the back of a patchy run - since their success in Europe earlier in the campaign, they have picked up just three victories in the league, most recently in a 4-1 win over 10-man Pontypridd just two weeks ago, but since lost out to Cardiff Met last weekend. The last time The Robins visited Deeside saw them pick up a surprise 2-0 victory in a game which saw Nomads dominate but somehow lose out to two goals on the break so Neil Gibson will no doubt be looking to avoid a similar fate to that of Craig Harrison in last season’s fixture.
5
FROM THE GAFFER Let’s not make any bones about it - Newtown are in a false position in my opinion - they’ve been in Europe for the last two seasons, they’ve invested again in the summer with the signing of Louis Robles and they are trying to improve again and kick on and they’ll certainly be in and around that top 3-4 places for Europe. I firmly expect them to come good in the next couple of months, however we’re fully aware of what that looks like moving forwards for us tonight - a tough game, a really tough game and obviously we are missing Aron Williams who picked up a concussion during the Penybont game, having to go off after 12 minutes and we are really disappointed. At the time I was really worried about the challenge that he recieved and having watched it back and knowing Dan Jefferies as a player, I don’t think he meant it, it’s just a clash of heads, but it does raise it’s concerns because we are in a modern day where we are fully aware of head injuries and the impact of that. We’ve got Mike Wilde up front every week and I’ve been a little bit disappointed in the last couple of weeks about the amount of fouls that are given against him whereas people are coming through the back of him and he’s not getting protected and I worry that we are going to get another serious head injury the next few weeks and thankfully Aron is recovering well but he is going to be out for a few weeks while he goes through the concussion protocol, so we’ll be light on numbers in a couple of areas tonight, but we are hopeful that after this week’s training we’ll be right at it tonight and look to keep this fantastic winning run going that we are on. Enjoy the game All the best Gibbo #nomadsneverdie

HAYES AND FIRTH THE HEROES AS NOMADS WIN AMID LATE DRAMA Saturday afternoon saw The Nomads pick up a 1-0 victory over Penybont thanks to Mike Hayes’ 100th Cymru Premier goal and a late penalty save from Andy Firth.
As for Penybont, a solid 5-1 win over Risca United in the JD Welsh Cup saw Rhys Griffiths’ side return to winning easy after dropping points against Pontypridd and Flint Town in the Cymru Premier. Last weekend, Penybont overcame a struggling Airbus in a 3-0 win which keeps them also in the race for a top six position.
Nomads capitalised on Dan Jefferies’ first half red card as Mike Wilde’s shot fell into the path of Mike Hayes who put Nomads ahead in the 70th minute with his milestone 100th Cymru Premier goal. Deep into stoppage time, the hosts were awarded a penalty which Nathan Wood took but Andy Firth came to Nomads’ rescue as he saved the spot kick. John Disney received a late red card after receiving a second yellow card following Wood’s penalty miss.
Team News Neil Gibson made two changes from the 2-0 win over Cardiff Met as Callum Bratley dropped to the bench with Harry Franklin absent from today’s squad. The duo of Aron Williams and Aeron Edwards came into the starting eleven. Andy Firth was named in between the sticks with Mike Wilde leading the line for Nomads.
Form Nomads came into this game with wins in their last six matches in all competitions. Last weekend saw Nomads make a statement for a top six finish after Mike Wilde’s brace secured a 2-0 victory over Cardiff Met. Nomads also progressed to the Semi Finals of the Nathaniel MG Cup last Tuesday through Anderson Pinto’s first Nomads goals helped see off Cymru North side Ruthin Town.
Rhys Griffiths also made two changes from his side’s victory over Airbus as Kostya Georgievsky and Ryan Reynolds were brought back into the side in place of Sam Snaith and Kai Whitmore who both dropped to the bench. Keyon Reffell also returned to the bench after missing out last weekend.
8
The First Half Penybont were first to have a sight of goal as Kane Owen fired across the six yard box which Rhys Kavanagh flick towards goal from close range but the Penybont forward was denied by a fine save from Andy Firth.
Ben Nash, who was on a yellow card. Aeron Edwards had a chance to open the scoring for Nomads after he controlled the ball inside the penalty area, however his powerful shot was always rising over Pennock in the Penybont goal.
Nomads were forced into an early substitution as Aron Williams went down with an injury and Neil Gibson took no risk and brought on Callum Bratley in his place.
Moments later, Nomads did open the scoring after Mike Hayes bagged his 100th Cymru Premier goal. Danny Holmes’ cross was met by Mike Wilde whose effort rebounded back off the post and left Hayes with a nice and easy finish to put Nomads 1-0 up with 20 minutes to go.
Penybont defender Dan Jefferies received a straight red card midway through the first half after putting his knee to the head of John Disney whilst both players were on the ground, giving referee Richard Harrington no choice but to dismiss Jefferies.
Nomads then made their next switch as last Tuesday’s Nathaniel MG Cup hero Anderson Pinto came on for Ryan Stratulis. Penybont also made a change with Tom Tweedy coming on for Kostya Georgievsky.
Mael Davies nearly gave his side the lead after a corner headed away by George Horan fell to Davies on the right side of the area before he volleyed towards the far corner but his shot flashed wide of Firth in the Nomads goal.
Three minutes into stoppage time, Penybont were awarded a penalty by the referee after Anderson Pinto had been deemed to have fouled Tom Tweedy inside the area.
The Nomads forward line began to use the extra man to their advantage as Ryan Stratulis almost picked out Mike Wilde with a great cross but goalkeeper Alex Pennock was alert and rushed out to collect in time.
Nathan Wood stepped up but had his penalty wonderfully saved by Andy Firth who guessed correctly down to his right hand side, keeping Nomads on course for all three points.
It was evident that Jefferies’ red card began to take its toll as Nomads continued to create chances, in search of the opening goal. Ryan Stratulis took aim but his effort was inches over the crossbar.
The full time whistle blew meaning Mike Hayes’ milestone goal followed by Andy Firth’s goalkeeping heroics were enough to give Nomads their fifth consecutive victory in the Cymru Premier and move four points clear in second place.
The home side were denied by the woodwork five minutes before the half time whistle as Kane Owen’s free kick on the edge of the box fell into the path of Nathan Wood who could only fire his effort onto the post. The Second Half Penybont were able to clear away a Nomads cross and launch a counter attack led by Nathan Wood and Kostya Georgievsky who looked to cross back into Wood in a goalscoring position but The Nomads backline worked well to avert the danger. On the hour mark, Neil Gibson made his second substitution of the afternoon as Gibson looked to strengthen in attack with Mike Hayes coming on to replace

PINTO’S FIRST NOMADS GOALS SECURE SEMI FINAL SPOT Tuesday night saw The Nomads reach the semi finals of the Nathaniel MG Cup after a 2-0 win over Ruthin Town thanks to an Anderson Pinto brace.
quarter final clash after Flint Town were found to have breached a competition rule. Since then, Phil Hudson’s side have gone on to win their last three fixtures with league victories over Mold and Chirk seeing them climb up to seventh place in the Cymru North. Just like Nomads, Ruthin also made it to the next round of the Welsh Cup, overcoming Rhyl ten days ago.
Anderson Pinto’s 11th minute strike gave Nomads an important early lead but throughout the half, Joe Malkin and Mike Hayes both had fantastic chances to extend the advantage, however Ruthin were able to keep Nomads at bay. The dying seconds saw Nomads secure their semi final spot as substitute Ryan Stratulis spotted Pinto in space before the midfielder found the bottom corner with the last kick of the game.
Team News Neil Gibson made a number of changes to his starting eleven with Jon Rushton replacing Andy Firth in goal. Josh Williams, Joe Malkin and Mike Hayes were also named amongst the starters as well as Anderson Pinto who made his return after picking up an unfortunate injury last month. The Nomads bench featured the four academy players of Joe Lawlor, Jordan Pownall, Louis Holden and Luca Hogan.
Form The Nomads came into this game in tremendous form having been on the winning side in their previous six matches. Nomads sit second in the Cymru Premier with last weekend’s victory over Cardiff Met giving Neil Gibson promising hopes of pursuing a top six finish come the end of Phase One. Nomads also recently progressed to the third round of the JD Welsh Cup after putting five past Denbigh Town a couple of weeks ago.
Phil Hudson made two changes from his side’s Welsh Cup win as Joe Sullivan and Ilan Hughes came back into the team with their replacements Josh Jones and Dafydd Evans both dropping to the bench.
Tonight’s visitors Ruthin Town were reinstated into this

The First Half Nomads were eager to get an early goal and almost got their reward inside the first five minutes as Joe Malkin got into a great position on two occasions but he was unable to keep either of his headers on target and Ruthin survived.
went for the near post but another block frustrated Nomads.
Ruthin goalkeeper Daniel Goldston was tested for the first time as a Danny Holmes cross from the right was met by Mike Hayes who flicked his header towards goal, however Goldston was alert and caught safely.
Pinto was causing a major threat to the Ruthin defence once again as this time he slipped in Paulo Mendes with only the goalkeeper to beat, Mendes tried to round the keeper but was unlucky in his attempt as Goldston made the save to deny him.
Nomads hit the front in the 11th minute as Anderson Pinto grabbed his first Nomads goal. With space down the left, Ryan Harrington assessed his options and pulled back to Pinto who had time to pick his spot and find the bottom corner to make it 1-0.
Moments later, Josh Williams’ wide free kick crossed towards Joe Malkin saw the striker head downwards, in pursuit of the bottom corner but he was narrowly off target. Nomads then made their first change of the night as Ryan Stratulis came on for Callum Bratley. Ruthin made two substitutions with Charlie Williams and Josh Jones coming on for Osian Davies and Sam Jones.
Joe Malkin came close to doubling Nomads’ lead as Mike Hayes found the striker inside the area before Malkin turned and fired towards goal only to be denied by a crucial block, keeping the scoreline at 1-0.
Stratulis was called into some defensive duties as Joe Sullivan’s free kick was crossed low into the six yard box but Stratulis was there to instantly stick a leg out and intercept the attack, retrieving possession back for his side.
Ruthin had their first shot on goal after Captain Osian Davies received the ball about 25 yards from goal and went for glory but Jon Rushton was more than alert to the danger, making a comfortable save to his right. Paulo Mendes skillfully escaped his marker in midfield and played a ball over to Ryan Harrington who put a quality cross towards the back post but nobody was there to get the final touch and Ruthin were able to make an important clearance.
Anderson Pinto got beyond his man and delivered from the right hand side leading to a goalmouth scramble involving Mike Hayes and Joe Malkin. The ball bounced around inside the area before it came to Malkin who was unable to find the back of the net from close range. Nomads then introduced two academy stars as Jordan Pownall and Luca Hogan entered the pitch in place of Hayes and Malkin.
The Second Half Nomads nearly had a great sight of goal as John Disney’s long ball from defence was controlled well by Joe Malkin who steadied himself and looked to square to Mike Hayes but the defender recovered in time to intercept Malkin and clear the danger.
Deep into stoppage time, Nomads ensured the semi final spot was secured as Anderson Pinto clinched his second of the evening. Ryan Stratulis burst down the right and found Pinto around twelve yards out before the goalscorer fired low and hard into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
Straight away at the other end, Owain Morris broke free of Ryan Harrington inside the final third and aimed to play a through ball into Gwion Owen but his pass was too heavy for the number 10 to reach. Mike Hayes almost struck gold as he received and turned inside the area following Anderson Pinto’s pass, Hayes
