A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR Hello and welcome to our final digital programme of the season! What a campaign it has been, and for so many reasons like no other. Whilst it’s a shame we couldn’t get fans in to support the Nomads, I hope it’s still been exciting following us from home. Who would’ve said at the start of the season, that the title race would go down to the final two games? Thanks to the hard work of Andy and all staff, we’ve brought the fight to rivals TNS and formed the first real title race the league has seen for 10 years, which will either be decided today or next week. And we’ve managed it throughout the challenges of Covid, losing players to injury, and of course the two lockdowns which disrupted this season. It’s been such a difficult season to complete, and everyone at Nomads should be proud that we are this stage with everything to play for. As you’ll already know, we must simply focus on the game in hand this evening, which is live on Sgorio for you to follow from home. Caernarfon will be a tough test as always as we welcome Huw Griffiths and his staff to Deeside – safe journey home all visiting today. Finally, a massive thanks to everyone involved in our matchday operations, playing staff, the club board and last but certainly not least our fans for your support from home and over social media. During these strange times we’ve all pulled together, and as a result have never looked stronger as a club. Now all that’s left to do say…Come on Nomads!

SHOW RACISM THE RED CARD

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Caernarfon Town

Final home fixture at Deeside Saturday evening will see Connah’s Quay Nomads face Caernarfon Town in our final home fixture of the 2020/21 season. The Nomads come into the game sitting two points clear at the top of the league table, knowing that a victory could be huge in determining where the league trophy ends up this season. Should TNS fail to beat Barry on Saturday afternoon, a victory for The Nomads would guarantee a second successive league title. Form Guide The Nomads come into Saturday evening’s game having won five of our last seven games, only dropping points at home to TNS and away to Bala. Caernarfon head to Deeside Stadium on the back of their first victory in the Championship Group having beat Bala Town 3-0 on Tuesday night - prior to that, Huw Griffiths’ side had picked up draw against Penybont and TNS having lost their previous five games including a 6-1 victory for The Nomads at The Oval in April. Previous Encounters The Nomads have a good record at Deeside Stadium against Caernarfon, having lost only one of the last ten matches at home. That defeat came back in September 2018 where a Jamie Breese strike was enough to give The Cofis the win. Since that game The Nomads have won all four matches between the sides at home with 6-2, 4-2, 4-0 and most recently 3-1 victories. The most recent game back in October 2020 saw Caernarfon take a surprise lead in the 19th minute before Priestley Farquharson netted a brace either side of a Mike Wilde goal to secure the 3-1 victory on a very wet night at Deeside Stadium. NOMADS DRAW WITH LAKESIDERS IN CLASH AT BALA

JD Cymru Premier Tuesday 4th May 2021 Jenner Park, Barry, Wales

Morris (76’) Curran (78’)

NOMADS COMPLETE QUICKFIRE COMEBACK AT BARRY Connah’s Quay Nomads came from 0-1 down to win 2-1 against Barry Town United in the JD Cymru Premier at Jenner Park on Tuesday evening. • Competitive first half ended goalless • Theo Wharton broke deadlock in the 66th for Barry • Callum Morris equalised with 75th minute penalty • Craig Curran took the lead just two minutes later • Nomads stay top of the JD Cymru Premier with two to play The live Sgorio game was a key part of this season’s thrilling title race in the JD Cymru Premier, with league leaders Nomads above 2nd placed TNS by just two points, with three games to go in the season. It followed a stalemate clash between the top two on Saturday at Deeside, where the 0-0 draw kept Nomads’ fate in their own hands in the end of season run-in. Andy Morrison made just one change from that game, starting stalwart defender Danny Harrison in place of Craig Curran who was on the bench. His counterpart Gavin Chesterfield meanwhile started the likes of Jordan Cotterill, Jamie Bird and Rhys Kavanagh as Barry Town kept up their fight for a home advantage in the play-offs. The game started and the first major chance came in the sixth minute, when a Danny Davies cross was headed goalwards by Jamie Insall, who was denied by a save from the hosts’ keeper Mike Lewis. 6

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Caernarfon Town

That chance was the result of a strong start by Nomads, who dominated much of the possession for the first half hour of the encounter at Jenner Park. They kept the pressure on to win a corner in the 17th, which saw Poole send the ball in and captain George Horan head over after rising highest in the Barry area. It took until the 25th minute for Barry’s first major chance to arrive, when Kavanagh ran through on goal to shoot wide from 18 yards in a warning shot at the Nomads. After half an hour, the game had become more even with Connah’s Quay battling hard for chances in the Barry final third. The likes of Danny Davies and Declan Poole were making good runs through the midfield, trying to find the awaiting Wilde who was looking to add his goal tally for the season. Despite this, Nomads continued to search for a clinical finish whilst Kavanagh again threatened with a shot from around 20 yards out, with Nomads keeper Ollie Byrne pushing it wide. The competitive half ended goalless, and Andy Morrison’s side came out in the second half knowing the remaining 45 minutes would have huge ramifications on their season. They made their attacking intent clear as Declan Poole set to work in the Barry half once again, with Craig Curran coming on to bolster the Nomads’ frontline in place of Danny Harrison. Kris Owens was meanwhile sending a flurry of crosses into the Barry final third, with Wilde heading one of his free kicks wide in the 59th. As the hour mark passed, the tension was rising as Nomads continued to look for a crucial goal on the night. But then, they were dealt a significant blow when Theo Wharton took the lead for Barry in the 66th minute. He got on the end of a Barry move on the edge of the Nomads’ box, and struck to give Nomads a big hill to climb with just over 20 minutes to go. Connah’s Quay’s urgency to find an equaliser was clear, with George Horan sending a Poole cross wide as the frustration grew for his side. They continued to attack relentlessly, and it paid dividends when Poole was brought down in the area and referee Dean John pointed to the spot. Callum Morris stepped up and made no mistake in the 76th, converting the kick to bring Nomads back into the game and with 15 minutes left to find a winner. But it took them less than two, with Craig Curran scoring on 78 minutes to complete a dramatic comeback from the visiting Nomads. When a Poole cross found Aeron Edwards, he headed it down towards the goalmouth where Curran converted with a crucial touch. Having been 0-1 down with just 15 minutes to go, Nomads were now 2-1 up and seeking to control the game as it entered its latter stages. Neither side relented, with Patton being stopped on a run into the Nomads half by Horan, and Wilde being intercepted as he tried to get on the end of a cross from Insall in the 85th. In the 90th, there was another twist when Barry were reduced to ten men when Jordan Cotterill was shown a second yellow card for a late foul. Nomads showed their experience and composure to manage their possession well during six minutes of injury time, during which Neil Danns was introduced in place of Jamie Insall. A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall

It’s the final digital programme for our last home game at Deeside, and our penultimate game of the season as the title race goes down to the wire. European ties, two lockdowns, high-scoring clashes, wins over our biggest rivals, and dramatic comebacks – this campaign has really been extraordinary. I think the spirit of our season could be summed up by our very first game – at home to Bala Town, trailing 1-0 in the 94th minute – until Sameron Dool sent a stunning long-range strike in to equalise. In that match, Nomads didn’t give up, they didn’t back down, and found a way to win – and we went on to do this repeatedly throughout the season. We showed that on Tuesday with the win over Barry Town, even after trailing 1-0 to Barry Town with just 15 minutes to go. A penalty and a Craig Curran goal within just two minutes gave us the lead, and we once again completed the comeback to stay top of the league by just two points. This never say die spirit that has no doubt fuelled this title race we’re gripped in, which is reaching a dramatic climax with just two games to go. The job is simple – as long as we continue winning, we’ll keep our fate in our own hands. The last time the league saw a title race this close was in 2010/11, when Bangor City won it on the last day over TNS, and after years of dominance by the Saints, we’ve battled to leave the league championship wide-open in what will surely be remembered as the best JD Cymru Premier season for many years. Today’s guests Caernarfon will be tough opponents as always, having just beaten Bala Town 3-0 in the midweek. We know they’ll be gunning for a home advantage in the playoffs, and will have to again be at the top of the game to get a result – as Andy Morrison said following the win over Barry, no one’s going to give Connah’s Quay the title. Player of the Week: George Horan For the final programme of the season, it has to go to George Horan for his leadership and consummate professionalism during this season. There’s been plenty of moments this season when we could’ve been in trouble, and George’s experience, power and of course goals have kept us on the straight and narrow. Having captained us to the league title, JD Welsh Cup and Nathaniel MG Cup, he’s already a legend around these parts, and he’ll be remembered for another campaign of consistently class performances this time round.
