A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR Hello and welcome back to our digital programme for another big JD Cymru Premier clash this evening for this later kick off time of 5:15. With eight games to go, all is to play for and Barry are the latest challenge in this extremely competitive Championship Conference. We always knew the top six would be tough this year, and Saturday proved that as we had a rare home defeat against Penybont, the first time we’ve been beaten at Deeside at home in over two years. It wasn’t our day, and I don’t think anyone would say Penybont would be unworthy European entrants given their impressive season so far. The defeat was also a chance to reflect on our relentless run at home over the past two years, and indeed for much of Andy Morrison’s time with the club so far. However, we bounced back in Tuesday’s 6-1 win over Caernarfon, and are now looking to start another undefeated run at Deeside. Barry come into tonight’s fixture off the back of a 6-0 defeat to TNS, and they’ve given us some great games here recently. Welcome to Gavin Chesterfield, officials and players here today making the long and later than planned journey up, and to our fans at home I hope you enjoy following the action - fingers crossed for news of a return for fans as soon as possible.

Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United
Phase Two gets underway with visit of Penybont Saturday evening will see Connah’s Quay Nomads continue our Phase Two fixtures with the visit of Barry Town United to Deeside Stadium. Form Guide The Nomads come into the game on the back of an emphatic win at Caernarfon Town on Tuesday night - a 6-1 victory was our biggest ever victory at The Oval and on the same night, Barry suffered one of their biggest ever home defeats with a 6-0 defeat at the hands of TNS. Previous Encounters Since their return to the top flight of Welsh Football in the 2017/18 season, Barry have visited Deeside Stadium on five occasions, with The Nomads remaining undefeated so far with three victories and two draws, including a dramatic late 2-0 victory in January 2020, which ended up going a long way towards securing our first ever JD Cymru Premier title. You have to go back to December 2002 for our last home defeat against Barry Town. From the gaffer Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison said; “We look forward to our game against Barry this weekend knowing how tough it will be. We go into the game on the back of a very good performance at Caernarfon where we were able to move the ball well on a very good surface. Having scored 11 goals in our last two away games, we have shown how important the surface is - we now need to take that form on to our own pitch.”

NOMADS HIT COFIS FOR SIX AT THE OVAL Connah’s Quay Nomads ran out 6-1 winners against Caernarfon Town in the JD Cymru Premier on Tuesday evening at The Oval. The game was Nomads’ second of phase two, and they were looking to return to winning ways after a rare home loss to Penybont the previous Saturday. Andy Morrison made four changes, bringing in Jamie Insall, Danny Davies, Neil Danns and Declan Poole into the starting line up to replace Craig Curran, Aeron Edwards, Aron Williams and George Horan. Caernarfon manager Huw Griffiths meanwhile started a familiar Cofi side including former Nomads Michael Hayes and Noah Edwards. The live Sgorio fixture kicked off, and Nomads were soon creating chances in the Cofi’s final third. Danny Davies helped launch their attacks, with runs down the left wing to try and find the likes of Wilde and Insall waiting in the area. After 10 minutes, the game was fairly even as Andy Morrison’s side worked hard to create opportunities to get past the Cofi defence. And the visitor’s breakthrough came in the 15th minute, when Jamie Insall made a wily interception to find Neil Danns, who held up the ball before finding Declan Poole running into the Caernarfon area on the overlap. Poole received the ball and struck low into the bottom left corner to give Nomads the lead, but this was short lived as despite Connah’s Quay enjoying the majority of the possession, Caernarfon equalised with one of their first chances. Jake Bickerstaff made a run down the left wing, and cut into the area before sending a shot past John Disney and keeper Ollie Byrne in the 24th, bringing things level once again at The Oval. 6

With the game well and truly on after less than 30 minutes, Nomads were targeting the host’s final third once more as they looked to take control of the proceedings. Jamie Insall was battling hard at the byline in the 25th, whilst Danny Holmes was sending threatening balls into the area to find Danns and Wilde. On the half hour mark, Nomads retook the lead with Declan Poole adding an assist to his game after scoring the opener. He sent a well weighted cross to Wilde, which bounced perfectly in the six-yard box for the Connah’s Quay targetman to head home from close range. Caernarfon again reacted by pushing into the Nomads half and winning a corner in the 34th. However, this was dealt with by Danny Holmes and Nomads sought to maintain their lead in a fast-paced first half. Before the interval, Danny Davies went close from 20 yards out as he continued cause issues in the Caernarfon final third, which would prove to be a sign of things to come in the second half. The JD Cymru Premier clash restarted and both teams were eager to find a goal, with Nomads carefully controlling the possession as the 50th minute approached. Andy Morrison’s team did add a third, but in unusual circumstances when a Kris Owens free kick was sent in from the left wing and into the back of the net by Caernarfon’s own Cai Jones. Nomads then made their first substitution of the game, bringing on George Horan to replace Danny Harrison followed by Johnny Hunt for Kris Owens shortly after. With an hour gone the score stood at 3-1 to Nomads, but the defending JD Cymru Premier champions didn’t stop there as the likes of Wilde, Poole and Holmes looked for ways to further extend the lead. Danny Davies was rewarded for his efforts by getting Nomads’ fourth, with Declan Poole adding an assist to his man of the match-winning performance. After a cutting cross, Davies struck a volley into the bottom left corner to extend his side’s lead on 72 minutes. In the 75th, Jamie Insall went agonisingly close to scoring when yet another cross from Poole came in, which he sent goalwards only for keeper Josh Tibbetts to make a good save at close range. Nomads then made a double substitution, allowed under the current rule for a maximum of five changes, replacing Wilde and Insall with Aron Williams and Craig Curran. But three minutes later, club captain Horan made it 5-1 after he got on the end of a cross from Holmes to slide the ball in at close range. In scoring, he accidentally clashed with keeper Tibbetts who was stretchered off, leading to an additional seven minutes at the end of the game. However, the action was wrapped up inside 90 minutes, as Danny Davies sealed his brace with a close range effort to make it 6-1 in the 89th. After showing their composure in injury time, the Nomads’ victory was confirmed to keep them well in the JD Cymru Premier title race. Connah's Quay Nomads vs Barry Town United

A VIEW FROM THE STAND By Will Catterall
It’s good to be back at Deeside and for a big game under the floodlights, for one of those nights where we’d be expecting a big atmosphere with both sets of fans in the ground. Despite their absence, we can still look forward to an intriguing battle with a side we’ve come accustomed to close games with. Barry were a welcome addition to the league after a long road back to the top flight, rightly earning their place in Europe in the past couple of seasons. Now, they’ll be planning to clinch another place in the Europa League this time round as they look to close the gap on third place. At one point in phase one, third place was looking all but decided, but a few results against Bala have opened up the race for what is an automatic European spot this season. This of course means we’ll have to be at the top of our game this evening after showing plenty of bouncebackability at Caernarfon on Tuesday. The Oval is a difficult place to go, but we rose to the challenge of a packed fixture list to run out comfortable 6-1 winners – a great statement to make after the previous loss to Penybont on Saturday. Winning today would also set us up for what looks to be one of trickiest runs of fixtures we’ve seen in some years. Following tonight’s game, our fixture list over the next fortnight looks as follows: Bala (H) TNS (A) Bala (A) TNS (H) They’re undoubtedly our two biggest rivals in the league, and this run could well decide the course of the league title this season. We can only take it one game at a time, and find a way to win as this side have done so many times before under Andy Morrison and his staff. Score Prediction: Nomads 2-0 Barry Town Player of the Week: Declan Poole Declan has been a regular feature in our line ups since signing in 2016, and is now a JD Welsh Cup, Nathaniel MG Cup and JD Cymru Premier winner with over 70 starts as a Nomad. On Tuesday, he showed why he continues to earn a place in the side with a performance that Caernarfon simply couldn’t handle, and winning Sgorio’s man of the match. He’ll have more to show us yet this season, and Nomads fans won’t have forgotten his match-winning volley against TNS in the 2016/17 season!
