GGWP “Good Game, Well
Played” – Electronic sports or simply Esports is a video/ mobile game played with the use of digital screens either Personal Computer or by Cell phones; it is a team sporting event in a combative way capturing their opponents through the animated, organized, developed application/software.
Imagine – Walking into the homes of the Filipino youths, we may find them most of the time lurking in the corners of their bedroom with an electronic device glued in their hands.
The emerging and thriving society of mobile games towered year-every-year, due to high-numbered of Esporting events, easy accessibility to the games, and countless appearance to different social media sites.
The Philippines, according to recent statistics, 95.8% of internet users between the ages of 16 and 64 played video games.
By these figures, it made the Philippines the number one country in the world in terms of the most numbered mobile players.
The 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA-G) 2023 Esports category comprises of VALORANT, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (womens and mens), PUBG Mobile, League of Legends: Wild Rift, CrossFire and Attack Online 2.
Despite being opened as an official sports in the international field, the regional and provincial for mobile games.
In my recent poll, 14 out of 20 respondents agreed that Esports should be an official sport in the regions of the country. Only making a 30 percent discrepancy.
One major reason why people does not allow it is because they assume that a real sport is a moving sport, excluding the “nonmoving” sports.
In other terms, sports that do not exert much more effort in physical aspects are not considered as a sport. This is also the reason why chess is not included in the Olympics.
Sporting events here in the Philippines are still not open in providing a spot about having strong physical aspects, a sport also needs a brain, that’s why tactics and strategies in winning are present in-game.
Playing Esports like Mobile Legends can increase our brain work for startegies are needed during battling with other players.
Aside it is a place were youth can engage with other people, strengthening ties creating brotherhood. Moreover, we are in the 21st century and technology emerge more-and-more, why not we allow advanced sporting events in the field instead of just settling to usual traditional sporting events.
For many athletes, participating in Davao Region Athletic Association (DAVRAA) is a dream come true. But for Julia Mae Wenceslao, and Kurt Andrew Dalmacion it remains an unattainable goalat least for now.
Wenceslao and Dalmacion are both taekwondo athletes who trained hard to qualify for DAVRAA. They spent countless hours practicing their kicks, blocks, and forms in the hopes of making it to the competition.
"Happy gali kaayu, kay naka abot mi sa provincial," Wenceslao expressed, though not making it to the DAVRAA she is still happy that they were able to represent the Municipality of Compostela in Davao de Oro Provincial Athletic meet Association (DdOPAA).
Dalmacion shared similar sentiments, saying that missing out on DAVRAA was a setback but not a defeat. He plans to continue training and competing for the remaining years that he has here in school to improve his skills.
"Dawat dawat lang, maningkamot nalang sunod," said Wenceslao. She also mentioned that she is not giving up, she is still chasing her dream of becoming a champion."
The road to success is not always a smooth one, and setbacks are inevitable. However, what sets Dalmacion and Wenceslao apart is their determination and resilience. They refuse to let this setback define their athletic careers and instead choose to use it as motivation to work even harder.
"Nagtoo man pud jud ko nga kung naa juy hard work ug dedication sa imong gibuhat maka achieve jid kag success," Dalmacion uttered confidently.
Wenceslao echoed her sentiments, saying that perseverance is the key to success in any field.
Dalmacion and Wenceslao may not have made it to DAVRAA this year, but their journey is far from over. They continue to pursue their passion for taekwondo with the same level of dedication and determination as before, knowing that one day they will achieve their dreams. Their story is a testament to the resilience and perseverance required to succeed in any field, and serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes everywhere.
