They are very proud to be one of only three services nationwide from a pool of 46 services to receive this esteemed “Role Model” Award level. We are very proud to be one of only three services nationally to achieve the esteemed Role Model Award level”. The Kerry CIS Board of Management and the Chair, Jacqui Browne firmly believe in the ethos of Service Excellence “This award recognises and reinforces our commitment to excellence in providing a quality assured service to the public in accordance with agreed standards with a person centred approach by all the Information Providers who work within the service.” The service underwent a rigorous in-depth assessment to measure their performance against the EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) Role Model principles. This independent assessment was conducted by the Centre for Competitiveness, which is the national partner for EFQM in Ireland. The requirements are benchmarked against a framework of European Best Practice. They were supported in demonstrating all standards by Rosemary Enright Hodgson from Irish Corporate Training Consultancy and Real Experience who acted as a mentor to the service giving very real, practical advice and assistance. Kerry CIS provides independent information, advice and advocacy services to the community on their rights, entitlements and the social services that exist to support them. KERRY WOMEN’S INTERACTIVE NETWORK

The Kerry Women’s Interactive Network is at the helm again and steering us towards an inspiring event at St John’s Theatre. KWIN is planning a morning of film, discussion and hospitality. Two short films will be shown during the morning. Everyone is welcome. “Telling The Story – EWM” is a documentary about how the Equality for Women Measure was born out of NEKD. The EWM came from the National Women’s Strategy 2007-2016 which identified areas in which women needed to be supported – economically and through education, employment and wellbeing. The film outlines the work of the EWM in North Kerry and follows some of the women who have participated and who have had their lives improved and enriched by the EWM programme. The film carries interviews with women whose lives have been turned around by the support of the programme facilitators at EWM and the staff of NEKD. It’s an inspiring documentary. Don’t miss this opportunity to be at the Premiere! “Breaking Ground” is a documentary about the London Irish Women’s Centre, a feminist collective which was active in Stoke Newington from 1983 until 2012. The women involved in starting the London Irish Women’s Centre really did break ground by providing an alternative cultural and political space for women who had left Ireland for work and life in London. There was still a lot of anti-Irish racism in the UK at that time, and these women opened this centre to openly discuss and make public issues like abortion and birth control, which affected, not only the Irish women in the UK, but also women here at home in Ireland. The Centre provided counselling services for women whose ages ranged from 23 to 63 and was a valuable resource for Irish women living in London at a time when the Troubles in Northern Ireland were making it very difficult to be Irish and accepted. The film includes interviews with 18 women involved with the Centre and charts its history through the use of archive material. KWIN will be hosting this event on Tuesday 13th October 2015 at St John’s Theatre and Arts Centre in Listowel from 10am until 12.30.

SYMPATHY: Sincere sympathy is extended to the O’Connor family, Clashmealcon on the tragic death of Dan O’Connor during the week. Dan was a great supporter of Ballyduff & Kerry football and was regularly seen at matches supporting his grandchildren. B FOOTBALL: Our “B” Footballers wound up their season with a loss to Moyvane “B” at Ballylongford on Saturday last in the North Kerry Intermediate Football Championship. The team was as follows; Sean Browne; Johnny O’Regan, Anthony O’Carroll, Patrick Moran; Kevin Goggin, Michael Hussey, Thomas Slattery; Sean Costello, Paul O’Carroll; Eddie Joy, John Paul Leahy, Padraig Slattery; Thomas O’Rourke, Liam Boyle, Brian O’Carroll. SUBS: D Leahy, E Godley, JP Enright, J Dowling.

SHANNON RANGERS: Shannon rangers lost out after extra-time to Rathmore in the Garveys Supervalu County Senior Football Championship game played on Saturday evening last in Tarbert. Rangers led by six points into the second but with some refereeing decisions going against them they were hauled back to level scores at full time. Rathmore won extra-time by 0 – 6 to 0 – 2. Mikey Boyle, Barry O’Grady and Jack Goulding were outstanding for Rangers while Evan Doyle came on as a sub. What a very enjoyable game of football!!

U21 HURLING: Jack Goulding, Daniel O’Carroll, David Goulding, Cathal Kearney and Eoin Ross helped Causeway/Ballyduff defeat Kilmoyley in the quarterfinal of the County u21 Hurling Championship.

MINOR HURLING: Ballyduff/Causeway will play Lixnaw in the semi-final of the County Minor Hurling Championship on this Saturday October 10th at 4.00pm with venue to be decided.

COISTE NA NOG: The Under-10 footballers, the youngest group still playing, brought their season to a close this week with an extended “match of three halves” in Tarbert on Friday evening. This group has definitely performed well this year, some of them even making waves with the Under-12s. It has been great to watch. The mentors wish to thank the players and their parents for putting such a stellar effort into their season and we all look forward to seeing the group again next season. Don’t forget to continue to work on your skills! Speaking of skills, the Under-13 hurlers engaged in a day-long ground hurling blitz in Crotta on Saturday, finishing up in the A-final against Abbeydorney. After double extra time the teams still could not be separated so a replay will be required, time and date to be announced. Congratulations to the lads who, after doing so well this year in the traditional form of the game, showed their versatility at this on-off event.

There's not much left in the season and several teams have put away their boots for winter, but there are still a few fixtures remaining so keep an eye on Facebook and look out for text messages as coaches try to squeeze games and training into schedules that are starting to get quite full for everyone. SET DANCING Every Thursday night 8pm – 10pm, in Kilcooleys, Ballybunion. Teacher Timmy Woulfe.

HOW SAFE IS YOUR FARM? We all live in a farming community and this year has been horrific with the number of farm deaths. Most farmers work alone nowadays and the work load seems to be heavier than ever. The weather hasn't helped either, with difficulty getting silage and milk prices at an all time low, farmers are under pressure. A seminar at the Devon Inn on Thursday, October 15 at 7.00pm organised by Abbeyfeale and District Initiative will feature the National Chairperson of IFA’s Farm Family Committee, Maura Canning, the Development Officer with Muintir na Tire Diarmuid Cronin and James Clarke from Adare who survived a farm accident. This is a free event and refreshments will be served. All welcome. Don't just read this, go to the meeting and listen and more importantly have your say. Unfortunately farmers are not good at going to meetings. NORTH KERRY EAGLES Their Special Olympics Club are holding their Church Gate Collection on next Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11

THE HILLS OF OLD KILCOLMAN Irish traditional music album from siblings, John & Jack O'Connor, Kilcolman, Ardagh, dedicated to their late father, Jackie O'Connor, who passed away from cancer in 2008. Jackie spent some time in Milford Hospice before his passing and net profits from the sale of the album will go to Milford Hospice, Limerick. This traditional music album is representative of the music and song of West Limerick and in particular the music their late Dad loved to hear them play. John (button accordian) and Jackie (concertina) are joined by some accomplished guest musicians on the album. These include Martin O'Malley (guitar), James O'Connor (bodhran) Jack O'Connor (cajon) and Paddy Donovan (bones). It also features four songs, he title track of the album “The Hills of Old Kilcolman Where Our Forefathers Lie" was written by John and Jacki’s granduncle, Jim Keane and is sung beautifully by Maura Nolan. Donie Nolan sings a poignant version of “Shanagolden” and a rendition of “Down by Glensharrold Side” which was penned by John and Jacki’s grandfather, Patrick T. Aherne. The final song on the album is sung by a good family friend, Tadhg Maher, from Co. Offaly. The song is entitled “The Mountainy Men” and is a song which has rarely (if ever) been recorded before. The album is currently being featured on West Limerick 102FM, where Jacki presents “The Trad Scene” every Saturday evening between 6.00 & 8.00p.m. The album is now for sale at The Ramble Inn, Abbeyfeale and Moloneys Daybreak Carrickerry. Check out their Facebook page at www.facbook.com/thehillsofoldkilcolman for further information and they can be contacted at 087 7500049 and thehillsofoldkilcolman@gmail.com. Net proceeds in aid of Milford Hospice, Limerick. All support greatly appreciated. DEATHS Bridie Behan nee Stack of Ballyegan, Lisselton and formally of Moyvane South passed away on September 19. Both sides played their part in a tremendous game of football which had to go to extra time to produce a winner. At half time Tarbert/Moyvane were a point ahead 1-5 to 0-7 and held the upper hand for most of the second half but Bally/Asdee put in a tremendous finish with Eoin O'Connor converting a penalty to put the game into extra time the same player with a goal in the second period of extra time was enough to put them through to the next round. Senior County Championship - Shannon Rangers bowed out of the County Championship but they did not go down without a fight and indeed they will wonder how they did not win this encounter, as they were the better team for most of the game and it was only in extra time that the game slipped from their grasp. NORTH KERRY HURLING HISTORY BOOK

A book on the 90 year history of the North Kerry Hurling Board will be launched on Sunday, 18th October by Aogan O Fearghail, Uachtaran, Cumann Luthchleas Gael. Venue is Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Ardfert Road, Tralee, where proceedings get underway at 8.00p.m. Anyone interested is invited to attend, with a particular welcome to anyone who had a direct link or a family link with the Board over the years, including former officers and delegates and past and current players. BOOK DETAILS ‘North Kerry – a hurling history’ is a hardback, A4 sized book, running to 256 pages. It includes over 150 photographs. It gives an administrative history of hurling in the North Kerry area and lists of all the North Kerry officers since 1925 as well as each of the recorded competition winners. It was printed by Kingdom Printers in Tralee and the North Kerry Hurling Board are the publishers. The book will go on sale at the launch and will cost €20. BACKGROUND The North Kerry Hurling Board was founded 90 years ago, back in 1925. Writing its history has been considered for many years but little progress was made. A full page article by the late Tom Healy, then North Kerry Chairman, in the 1990 county hurling final programme details plans that were put in place then to research and write a history book. Now, 25 years later, the book has finally come to fruition. The main sources consulted include the surviving minute books of the North Kerry Board and the Kerry newspapers from 1925 onwards. The earliest surviving minute book is that dating from 1931 to 1937. AUTHOR The book is written by Tommy O’Connor who is the current Development Officer of the North Kerry Hurling Board. He has previously written a history of his own club ‘Ardfert – a hurling history’ which was published in 1988 and is now out of print.

Carl-Johan Forssén Ehrlin's simple story uses a unique and distinct language pattern that will help your child relax and fall asleep-at bedtime or naptime. Reclaim bedtime today!

LISTOWEL EMMETS LADIES

U8’s end of season trip: Emmets U8 girls finished the football season last weekend with a trip to Bowling Buddies followed with McDonalds and a trip to the Listowel Town Park playground since the sun was shining on Saturday. Great fun was had by all on the day with Grace Harte wining the Bowling tournament followed closely by Rachel Lynch and Rudy Daly. The Girls had a great year learning all the basic skills with a big thank you to the young Olivia Stack who coached the girls each Saturday morning. We hope all the girls enjoy their break and we look forward to seeing them all again in early March.

LISTOWEL RUGBY

On Friday 25th September Listowel Rugby Club along with Aras Mhuire Nursing Home welcomed The Dursley Male Voice Choir to North Kerry. This is the second time that we have had the pleasure in welcoming the all male choir to Listowel, back in 2010 they also put on a concert. The Tintean Theatre Ballybunion played host for the concert on the night which saw over 50 choir members, soloist Mark Llewelyn Evans and our very own Colm "Stride" O'Brien take to the stage. The Master of Ceremonies for the night was toastmaster Sean Lyons chairman of Listowel Writers Week, Mr. Lyons is an accomplished poet and has won international recognition as a toastmaster. Over 500 tickets were sold for the concert with half the proceeds going to the Development of Listowel RFC's new pitch located at Castleinch and the other half to Aras Mhuire Nursing Home. We would like to thank Listowel Rugby development committee, Aras Mhuire and all our sponsors for their continued support. On Sunday the Choir performed in Listowel Church during mass, visited the Aras Mhuire nursing home where they entertained many of the residents, this was followed by a farewell barbecue held by Christy Walsh at Christys The Well bar were the choir had some downtime and mingled with the locals before boarding the bus back to Killarney. Our sincere thanks to The Dursley Male choir for all their time and effort they put into the charity work they do and for helping clubs and Aras Mhuire get the funds they need to help with their developments. Weekend fixtures: Saturday 10th October U14's boys v Castleisland on Town Park pitch at 11

Sunday 11th October U18's boys v Newcastle West on Town Park pitch at 11.30 U16's boys v Castleisland in Castleisland at 2 U15's girls v Killrush on Co-Op pitch at 11 U18's girls v Killrush on Co-Op pitch at 12.15 Good luck to all teams and coaches.

Congratulations to our three U18's girls Aisling Brosnan, Hayley Betts and Muirne Wall who were all part of the Munster U18's team who competed at the weekend in Westport taking on Connacht, unfortunately the result did not go Munster's way but the display of rugby was at a high standard with the Listowel girls holding their own, at such a young age this is a great achievement for the girls and there is no doubt the ladies will be back in the red shirt again next season whilst having the green jersey in their sights.

BEALE GAA

Beale lost out to St Patrick’s, Blennerville in the replay of the County Minor League, Division 5 final in Ballyduff on Saturday. It took us up to twenty minutes to settle into the game as our opponents got into stride. A point on the stroke of half time sent us into the interval trailing by eight points to four. We hit the target again on the changeover and reduced the deficit to just two points, but St Pats were the stronger team and raised the green flags twice. We tried to make amends and, with a great goal chance denied, the final score read: Beale 1-10, St Pat’s 2-13. Beale team: Michael Eoin O’Sullivan, Fionnán Toomey, Tommy O’Neill, Seamie O’Sullivan, Johnny O’Sullivan, Callum McSweeney, Killian Walsh-O’Boyle, Aaronn Kelly, Alan Breen, Killian Courtney, Jonathan Carr, Darragh Buckley, Mikey Jones. Substitutes: Kieran Brosnan for Alan Breen, Killian Downey and Liam Lawlor. Beale Seniors await details of our County League, Division 3 game against St Patrick’s, Blennerville, to be played in Ballybunion. Third from the bottom of the table, we are in the relegation zone, going into our final game. All to be played for, with a win here to maintain divisional status or a play-off. Date to be confirmed.

Beale Seniors begin their quest to defend their North Kerry championship title when they play Ballyduff in the first round of the Bernard O’Callaghan Senior Football Championship 2015, a repeat of last year’s semi-final. Beale contest the quarter final of the North Kerry Under-21 Championship against Knocknagoshel/Brosna in Ballybunion. Date to be confirmed. In the Junior Championship, Beale have received a first-round bye. Shannon Rangers went down to Rathmore in round 3 of the County Senior Championship in a thrilling encounter on Saturday in Tarbert. A high scoring game went into extra time as the teams could not be separated at the fulltime whistle: Rangers 3-12, Rathmore 4-9. Rangers had the upper hand throughout and lead by six point going into the third quarter. However Rathmore nipped away at the lead and levelled as the clock ticked away. Rathmore drove on in extra time, as Rangers, with a depleted bench, ran out of steam, and the game ended: 4-14 to 3-13. Beale was represented by Jeremy King at corner back and Tom Joy, who came on as substitute forward. Shannon Rangers Minors contest the semi-final of the County Championship against Dingle; while Dr Crokes and Mid-Kerry are the other semi-finalists. Beale players in the squad include Darragh Buckley, Killian Walsh-O’Boyle and Johnny O’Sulllivan. Beale GAA are preparing for our annual Christmas social event. This year, instead of the White Collar Boxing, which proved a tremendous success for the past two years, we are planning to host Strictly Come Dancing. Anyone interested in competing, contact us immediately.

SHANNON RANGERS. Shannon Rangers 3-14 - Rathmore 4-15. Shannon Rangers bowed out of the 2015 Garveys Super Value, Sponsored County Senior Football Championship at Shannon Park, Tarbert on Saturday evening last after extra time in a trilling encounter that saw36 scores in all. This was a fantastic team performance from each and every player and credit the management team for having them in fine fettle for the occasion. Pity though that the 21 listed on the programme only 16 showed up as a couple of players had to be drafted in on the evening of the match. However hopefully with a little more effort from the 5 clubs involved this fine young side can stick together as the future of Shannon Rangers football looks secure. Under 16 North Kerry Championship: Ballylongford/Asdee 3-11 Moyvane/Tarbert 3-8 Both sides played their part in a tremendous game of football which had to go to extra time to produce a winner. At half time Tarbert/Moyvane were a point ahead 1-5 to 0-7 and held the upper hand for most of the second half but Bally/Asdee put in a tremendous finish with Eoin O'Connor converting a penalty to put the game into extra time the same player with a goal in the second period of extra time was enough to put them through to the next round.

was very sharp throughout, and Darren Loughnane. Deividas Uosis opened West Kerry’s account after good play by Cathal Ferriter, and it was Ferriter who smashed home their first goal minutes later. A great pass by Brian o Cinneide set up Liam o Bambaire for the second and West Kerry were leading by 2-1 to 0-3.

Upcoming Fixtures Shannon Rangers Minors semi Final against Dingle is pencilled in for the long weekend exact date and venue to be confirmed.

Deividas Uosis’ remarkable dead ball accuracy was twice negated by Conor Kelly at the other end and Conor’s third on the trot after a great catch left just two points between them. The next score was likely to be vital and so it proved when Feale Rangers worked the ball through to Darren Loughnane for a superb goal. 1-10 to 3-3 and the first time in a long time that they were in front. Darren Loughnae double the lead and it looked like time was running out for West Kerry. There was just seconds left when Deividas Uosis stepped up a free kick, consulted with the referee about time remaining, and kicked it over. There would be one last Feale Rangers’ kickout….West Kerry grabbed it and, even as the referee was raising the whistle to his lips, managed to get his shot off…and over the bar, for a stunning equalizer. Kennelly and Uosis swapped points in the first half of extra-time. Despite their high fitness levels, the tiredness was beginning to show in the legs and scores were getting harder to come by.

Senior County Championship Shannon Rangers bowed out of the County Championship but they didn't go down without a fight and indeed they will wonder how they didn't win this encounter as they were the better team for most of the game and it was only in extra time that the game slipped from their grasp.

FEALE RANGERS

U16 County Championship Semi-Final Replay: West Kerry 4-8 Feale Rangers 1-13 There was nothing between them after a ding dong battle in the first encounter, and the replay was just as tight. Despite the absence of key forward Ruadhan Mac Carthaigh through injury, it was again West Kerry built up a strong lead only for a tenaciously brave Feale Rangers to patiently chase it down. Feale Rangers had the first three points through Conor Kennelly, who

Feale Rangers almost got in for a goal at the other end after Darren Loughnane’s effort came down off the woodwork, but Tomas o Dubhain made a fantastyic block and managed to clear his lines – great defending. The ball went straight up the field and West Kerry found the net for a third time, Cathal Ferriter striking again. 3-1 to 0-3. Feale Rangers held their composure and began moving the football better, high quality teamwork at a very fast pace, and it paid dividends as they began to reel in a string of points through Sheldon O’Neill, Jeaic McKenna, and Darragh Behan. 3-1 to 0-7 at half-time; certainly not an unassailable lead.

Deividas Uosis kicked over a ’45, but Feale Rangers’ excellent midfielder Barry Mahony replied. Uosis again and West Kerry leading by a nose….and then by a canter, as Liucas o Chonaill finally smashed home the clinching goal to put West Kerry into a final against their East Kerry counter-parts

Feale Rangers: Danny Quilter, Daniel Sheehan, Brian McAuliffe, Daire Shannon, Darragh Behan, Conor O’Keeffe, Micheal Kennedy, Jeaic McKenna, Barry Mahony, Michael Kirby, Sheldon Neill, Sean Keane, Conor Kennelly, Robert Smith, Darren Loughnane. COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP Feale Rangers bowed out of the Senior County Senior Championship last Sunday in Killarney going down to Legion on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-11. Legion were the much fancied favourites but Rangers, without many of theis squad through injuries or otherwise put up a very spirited performance and will count themselves slightly unlucky not to be in the quarter finals. Scorers: Conor Cox 1-05, Cormac Mulvihill 0-03, Noel Kennelly 0-0 3
