NEW LAUNCHING VEHICLE FOR BALLYBUNION SEA & CLIFF RESCUE SERVICE
Last week Ballybunion Sea & Cliff Rescue Service took delivery of a new launching vehicle, a Talus MB-H. Purpose built exclusively as a rescue boat launching vehicle by Clayton Engineering in Wales for the RNLI, it was purchased second hand when the RNLI replaced it with a new model. The new launching vehicle provides the service with an extremely reliable and well designed launching vehicle that will now take over from the aging Morooka vehicle that the service has used for nearly 18 years. Driven by a V8 caterpillar engine and weighing nearly 19 tonnes, the Talus is capable of pushing the rescue boats into the necessary depth of water to launch at an impressive speed of 12kph. The Talus is also designed so well that in the event of a break down in the water, it can quickly be made watertight and left in up to 9 meters of water for up to 24 hours allowing the tide to come in and recede to allow it to be recovered.
The Talus was kindly transported from Wales by local company, Aronmar Plant and Crushing owned by Aaron Farrell who’s father, Mike, was a member of Ballybunion Sea & Cliff Rescue for many years.
Speaking of its arrival this morning, Omar Fitzell, Public Relations Officer for Ballybunion Sea & Cliff Rescue said “This is a massive development for us. While the Morooka we had served us very well, it has aged to the point where it was no longer reliable for the work we are using it for. The Talus may be second hand, but it is in perfect condition and more importantly, it is specifically designed for our purpose. We are extremely lucky that we have a great relationship with the RNLI to enable us to be in a position to be offered the purchase of one”.
Gearoid O Connor, Chairman of Ballybunion Sea & Cliff Rescue added “The arrival of the Talus has ensured that we can continue to offer immediate life saving response to the water around North Kerry and the Shannon estuary. It’s arrival does come at a big cost to the unit, however. We have spent nearly €40,000 via a loan to purchase the vehicle and have it ready for frontline response. We once again need the public’s support to repay this loan”.
The Talus went into operational service on Sunday the 11th of June once enough members were signed off as competent to utilise it. A GoFundMe has been set up in an effort to help repay the cost of the vehicle.… https://gofund.me/dc500dd7

CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS
CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY
Welcome to my weekly column. My name is Caroline and as a certified DóTERRA essential oil specialist I have been delighted to help, guide and support so many people along with their friends and families throughout North Kerry, West Limerick and wider region areas on their essential oil journey. From personal experience within my own home I know how these Oils can support the Body, the Mind and our Moods. Each week I’ll be sharing lots information on Self-Care, Wellness, Love and Gratitude using your DóTerra essential oils as part of your every day routine to live a life of Wellness, Happiness and Positivity.
This Week – We Focus on the Positive.
Basil, Peppermint and Frankincense are your go-to DōTerra essential oils this week as it brings Positivity to the Mind, Body and Soul.
Basil known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties can uplift our senses bringing a restorative, energised and positive mood to one-self. For those who love to spend time in the garden or around plants dóTerrras Basil is one you will have to have at hand as it is a great companion plant for tomatoes. Add a few drops to your watering can to give the plants a dose that can be absorbed through the root system or use it as a foliar spray. This helps give the tomato plants great vigor for growth and plant resistance. I have been using Basil in my cooking over the last few weeks, in particular my omelet dishes and it tastes amazing!
Peppermint is invigorating and stimulates the conscious mind improving our mental performance. It also gives us positive vibes which is always a bonus to our mood. I love to add a drop of Peppermint to my morning coffee or another one of my top tips is to add a drop to your favorite smoothie recipe for a refreshing taste and a real boost of energy.
FUN FACT - One drop of dóTerras Peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 28 x cups of peppermint tea!
Frankincense has wonderful properties and helps to focus energy, minimize distractions, and improve concentration. It eases hyperactivity, impatience, irritability, and restlessness and can help enhance spiritual awareness and meditation.
Frankincense is known as the King of dóTerras essential oils and I personally love to take this oil under my tongue every morning before I start my day. A powerful bottle to have in your home as when you use dóTerras Frankincense essential oil it will empower and enhance the benefits of all the other essential oils by ten. Incredible!!
Frankincense & Peppermint are just two of the oils that are included in DōTerras popular Top Ten Oils.
You can purchase your dóTerra essential oils from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity by contacting me on the number below or by sending me a message through my social media pages. Your Oils will be delivered to your door and you will have my support and guidance in using and diffusing your DōTerra essential oils for you and your family.
How To Use Basil, Peppermint and Frankincense
• Inhale directly from the bottles or place a few drops of each in your hands, rub them together, cup the hands over the face and inhale. Do this as many times as you need to.
• Diffuse 4 drops of each in your cold water diffuser
• Blend these oils together with FCO and apply over your pulse points, the back of your neck, behind your ears, to the soles of the feet and over your heart chakra when mediating or journaling.
My Three Way Method Using DóTerras Oils:
Topically: Apply the oils onto your skin (mixed with carrier oil) particularly on the pulse points and soles of the feet.
Aromatically: Place three to four drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffuse the oils in your home, classroom, office space, salons or other places of work and business.
Internally: Add the oils to your favourite food, waters and drinks, or simply take one drop daily under the tongue to support your body and mind.
As one of Irelands Top Wellness Advocates I love to share the information of the oils with as many people as I possibly can. The life enhancing benefits the oils give us are truly amazing and a journey I’m truly grateful to be on. dóTerra - One drop, One person, One community at a time.

Ballylongford Mill is a collection of early nineteenth century industrial buildings on twothirds of an acre in the middle of the village of Ballylongford, which comprises the old working port of the village.
It includes the five storey Mill, originally built as a grain drying store in 1846, the Creamery and Famine Hospital, which both appear on the 1851 map of the village, and a large buried eighteenth century boat dock in the centre of the site, which will be excavated and reinstated as a dock for wooden boats.
All of the buildings have been disused for a number of years, but work has started on the restoration of the buildings and walled yards which make up the old port of Ballylongford.
KERRY HOSPICE SUNFLOWER DAYS RAISES €11,792
The sun shone for the Kerry Hospice Sunflower Days on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th June. The Listowel Hospice would like to thank everyone that supported them so generously in person and online. They said that the continued support they receive is incredible and they were overwhelmed once again with the generosity of people for their Sunflowers Days. The total figure raised over the two days is €11,792. These are vital funds required to keep all the Specialist Palliative Care services going. Every cent raised in Kerry will stay in Kerry and it’s thanks to the wonderful Kerry people that there is an exceptional facility currently in place. Over 13 million has been raised in the last 30 years and there is still a fundraising journey ahead. Donations can still be made online via the Listowel Hospice Facebook or Instagram pages. The Listowel Hospice would also like to thank their amazing volunteers who selflessly gave their time and to the local businesses who allowed a presence around their premises. The community spirit was immense and Listowel really lived up their name of being the soundest town in Ireland.

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well
Let’s not blame certain events for our eating mishaps.
This week we want to chat a little bit about blaming a situation,a person or a place for our eating mishaps. Now that we are all able to socialize more now, whether it is a night out, a night away or catching up with friends .But we really have to watch these little misdemeanors to not undo all our good work. In fact we really want to improve on our weight loss and come out the other side healthy and happier. So let’s talk about moderation today.
Over our 30+ years experience in the Weight loss and Wellness industry we have been known to say over time the ever popular weight loss statement “everything in moderation”.
Well, we changed our minds...kinda.
We still don’t believe in depriving yourself and we certainly don’t believe the world is going to come to an end if you go off track and indulge once in a while. However, we think the concept of moderation can actually sabotage our weight loss efforts if we are not careful.
When we talk about moderation we are most likely referring to foods that aren’t necessarily a part of a healthy lifestyle. You never hear anyone say I’m going to eat broccoli “in moderation”. No! Most of the time they’re referring to things like pizza, cake, chips, biscuits, or some other junk food. The foods that caused our weight problems in the first place... Now we are not saying we need to give up all junk food. However, we do think we need to examine our relationship with food, define what moderation means, and identify the reasons we can’t remove certain foods from our life.
We have said many times “If you do what you always did then you’ll get what you always got” So if you want to develop healthier eating habits but still eat x, y or z everyday “in moderation” then you might sabotage your efforts.
So when does moderation work?
We believe moderation works when you plan for it. So if you must have a treat every day then it needs to be accounted for. It needs to be a part of your overall plan. If your weekly meal plan DOESN’T include a treat but you end up eating a treat everyday then that’s something to think about…..
For the future, we also believe moderation works at special events or on special occasions. For example, having a big slice of cake at a birthday party, or a wedding isn’t going to destroy the weight loss universe. Having a glass or two of wine once or twice a week isn’t going to make a huge difference. Enjoying the odd take-away once a month isn’t going to make you cry at weigh-in time.
Overall, we think moderation works best within limits and when planned for. So enjoy that treat or save it for the weekend and make sure you plan for it. Those are our new thoughts on moderation.
We hope you find this helpful as you work to create healthier eating habits.

THE FIVE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES OF ANDY AFRICA
By Stephen BuoroFifteen-year-old Andrew Aziza lives in Kontagora, Nigeria, where his days are spent about town with his droogs, Slim and Morocca, grappling with his fantasies about white girls - especially blondes - and wondering who his father is. When he’s not in church, at school or attempting to form ‘Africa’s first superheroes’, he obsesses over mathematical theorems, ideas of black power and HXVX: the Curse of Africa.
Sure enough, the reluctantly nicknamed ‘Andy Africa’ soon falls hopelessly and inappropriately in love with the first white girl he lays eyes on, Eileen. But at the church party held to celebrate her arrival, multiple crises loom. An unfamiliar man claims, despite his mother’s denials, to be Andy’s father, and the gathering of an anti-Christian mob is headed for the church - both set to shake the foundations of everything Andy knows and loves.
The Five Sorrowful Mysteries of Andy Africa announces a dazzling, distinctive, new literary voice. Profound, exhilarating and highly original, this tragicomic novel is a stunning exploration of the contemporary African ‘condition’, the relentless infiltration of Western culture and, most of all, the ordinary but impossible challenges of coming of age in a turbulent world.

SYMPATHIES
The Crotta Gaa Hurling Club and the wider Kerry hurling community wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Hickey and Mahony families on the sad passing of Kathleen (Kitty) Hickey, (nee Mahony), Keel, Kilflynn.
The Hickey family have been and continue to be valued members of Crotta GAA giving countless years of outstanding service in the development and wellbeing of the club. Kathleen’s husband Mike was Chairman of Crotta for over 2 Decades and you know the old saying, behind every great man is a great woman. Kathleen was always on hand to do the vital and too often overlooked work within a GAA Club. Kathleen took care of the team kit which in those days wasn’t an easy task as often one kit services numerous teams. Her gifted needlework was always on hand to carry out running repairs ensuring our teams were always ready for action. In the Christmas tradition of the Wren the Hickeys opened their home to welcome the Wren group and Kathleen was on hand to keep the musicians fed and ready to keep on the road which helped Crotta raise vital funding in those days. Kathleen’s great love in life was her family whom all embody her loving characteristics. Suaimhneas síoraí dá hanam milis

Senior Football:
Our Senior football team travelled to Shannon Park in Tarbert on Saturday evening last to take on the locals in the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Football League. After a tentative start our boys found their rhythm and Darragh Goulding was on the end of a great pass from Anthony Kavanagh to finish to the net and we led by five points at halftime. We maintained our lead but the hosts came on strong towards the and equalised in the final moments. Ballyduff were not to be denied when Darragh Slattery picked up the ball around midfield and soloed through, selling dummies galore, to plant the ball in the net for a super goal. Play continued and with five minutes of injury time played a high ball into the Ballyduff square was excellently fielded by Jack O’Sullivan but to everyone’s dismay the referee awarded a penalty which was sent to the net to leave it all square at full time 2 – 7 to 1 – 10.

SUMMER SOLSTICE WORKSHOP
On Wednesday, June 21st from 7.00pm to 10pm at Community Centre Ballybunion come and join Rosarie O’Connor for a wonderful evening celebrating summer Solstice. We are at the midway point in our calendar year now. We are right in the middle of the spring equinox and autumn equinox. Where there is equal light and darkness. Here we are now in the energy of light. June 21st is the longest day of light in the year. This will be an evening of sacred ceremony. Honouring the time of year we are in. I will hold you in sacred energy as you deepen into your own journey for the evening. Acknowledging your year so far. Being with your own shadow, feeling the felt sense in your body as you allow your awareness to move there.
Guiding you into a gentle healing meditation. Inviting your ancestors and guides to surround you and ease your mind, body and heart. In the “ease” you will slowly let go of any holding any tightness and you will feel a gentle flow of peace entering your body. Seeing the light fill your body and in its infinite wisdom, banishing all that does not serve your higher good.
We will deepen our experience while journeying to the beat of the shamanic drum. Allow me to hold you in sacredness and love. As we ease towards the end of the evening we will have a burning ceremony. Very sacred way to release that which no longer serves our higher good. Helping us to let go of anger, resentment, limiting thoughts and beliefs and so much more.
We will then finish our beautiful evening with a sharing circle while drinking tea and sharing food with each other. If you would like to attend please private message me as spaces are limited. I will send you more details of the evening. I’m so looking forward to seeing you and coming together again.
Cost is €50, to book contact Rosarie on 087 614 7359

Good news from Councillor Mike Foley. For farmers and those of us with potatoes and vegetables planted, last Saturday’s early morning rain was welcome after three weeks of a hot dry spell. It was also a welcome respite from watering flowers and shrubs in various locations around the village. BEALE GAA
Our unbeaten run in the County League was halted on Saturday evening as we succumbed to the challenges of Cordal in Páirc de Staic. We were not firing on all cylinders in the opening quarter and our dominance was not reflected on the scoreboard. Try as we might, we did not have our scoring boots on and just could not strike the target.
We would come to rue our wides and missed goal opportunity. We managed just one point in the first twenty five minutes and a mistake from the kickout ended up in the net for our opponents. Spectators felt that half time could not come fast enough in the hope that we could regroup for the second half. And regroup we did!
We came out after the interval a revived team. While Cordal were first off the mark, we were determined to come back. Our defence were solid, and we moved the ball with conviction. We responded with four unanswered points in the next ten minutes, to shrink the margin to just two points. We had the momentum we needed and raised the green flag. However, we failed to drive on. As the second half was wrought with stoppages, with tempers spilling over, additional time beckoned. Our opponents had been reduced to thirteen men, but we could not seem to take advantage. It was Cordal who finished stronger, and we lost out by 1-7 to 1-9.
The day ended as it began, and we stood still on 12 points. Yet again, Cordal proved too difficult an obstacle and we came away empty-handed. It certainly wasn’t our best performance and, no doubt, there will be some major talking points. However, promotion is still very much in our sights, and we have it all to play for.
Beale team lined out as: Joe Downey, Joe Finch, Diarmuid O’Mahony, Podge Holly, Daithí Toomey, Fionnán Toomey (capt), Conor Toomey, Phillie Blake, Robert Stack, Eric Daly, Barry O’Neill, Shane O’Connor, Jack Mallon, Ian Mannix and Darragh Buckley. Substitutes: Johnny O’Sullivan for Diarmuid O’Mahony (inj), Shane Joy for Fionnán Toomey (inj), Jack O’Sullivan for Jack Mallon, Tommy O’Neill, Rory Mulvihill, Andrew O’Connor, Darragh Hanrahan, Conor Breen, Niall Downey, Colm Carolan, Darragh Kissane, Aaron Kelly and Ronan Cross.
With just two games left to play, an exciting finish is in store in the league. Just 3 points separate the top six teams. We are in third place on the table, only 2 points behind the leaders, Keel, and on the same points as St Senans. All roads lead to Tarbert, who are just a point behind us, for the penultimate game on Sunday week. A game not to be missed, as these two North Kerry teams seek divisional promotion.
Having won the North Kerry League final in 2022, Beale juniors have been promoted to Division 3. Our first-round game is on 20th June against St Senans B in Ballybunion. Other teams in this division are Emmets B, Moyvane B, Brosna B and Desmonds B. Games scheduled each week from end of June.
The Beale Lotto draw took place in The Railway on Monday night. Details of the lucky numbers and winners are posted on social media. Numbers drawn were 9,, 10, 22 and 23. The Lotto jackpot was not won and there were three Match-3 winners, Doreen Roche, Jackie O’Connor and Martin O’Mahony, who each won €35. The winner of 5 Free tickets was Ronan Hayes.
This week’s Lotto jackpot is €3,600. Draw takes place in The Exchange Bar on Monday at 9 o’clock. A huge ‘míle buíochas’ to everyone who supports and promotes the Beale Lotto. Tickets, €2 each or 3 for a fiver, may be bought online and are available in Joyce’s Newsagents and in the local pubs. Terms and conditions apply.

After Extra Time:
Beale Tarbert 3-11 -v- St Michaels / Foilmore / Skellig Rangers 2-15
After an epic battle that included 20 minutes extra time, unfortunately our boys lost out by a single point to a goal that was scored well into injury time in extra time.
Our boys were outstanding on the night, and it was of no fault of their own that the result didn’t go their way.
Each and every boy played to the best of their ability, and it was heart breaking to lose at the end in such fashion.
Many thanks to our supporters who travelled to support the boys last night.

ASDEE GAA
County League Asdee 1-7 Moyvane 3-16 Prior to the game getting underway there was a minute’s silence observed for former club player Joe Edgerworth who sadly passed away over the weekend. On the playing front Moyvane continued their dominance over Asdee with a highly accomplished display of fast open football that had Asdee chasing for the bigger part the game in the Division 5, Phase 2 Cup encounter. Certainly, Asdee received a hugh blow just before the break when one of the key players, Kieran Kelly had to be replaced due to injury. Played at Con Brosnan Park on Saturday evening last that opening quarter saw the visitors go toe to toe with their opponents and led 3pts to 2pts by the 9th minute; through Darragh Keane;(2) and Paul O Carroll. However, some sloppy defending saw Michael Fogarty cut in for a goal in the 15th minute and 11mts later Eoin Flaherty billowed the net and from here on the Newtownsandes men were in control leaving the half time score; Moyvane 2-7 Asdee 0-3. On resumption and only 2mts had elapsed when the impressive Martin Stack struck for their 3rd goal. Darragh Keane added a goal (16th, mt) with Eoin Tydings and Paul O Carroll kicking over points but it was too little too late as Moyvane finished convincing winners. Asdee; James Kelly, Con Carmody, Martin Collins, John Daly, Jack Collins, Sean Keane, Patrick Mulvihill, John Doran, Stephen Lynch, Jack Keane, Darragh Keane, 1-4, Eoin Kennedy, Paul O Carroll, 2pts, Eoin Tydings, 1pt, Kieran Kelly. Sub Brendan Keane for Kieran Kelly, inj. Jack Hannon, Martin Brosnan. Referee, Billy Lacy, John Mitchels.

THE MIRACLE PRAYER
Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours.
This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen.
Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. D.C.

It got me thinking. Isn’t it astonishing that the Creator of the universe, the One, True and Living God, is accessible to us every minute, of every hour, of every day. And He really wants us to get in touch with Him, so much so, that He allowed the crucifixion and death of His Beloved Son Jesus, so that that we can have immediate access to the throne room of heaven, through His ever-present Holy Spirit. And we always get through to Him on the first ring. He never says try again later.
Ephesians 2:18 puts it like this: “Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done...”
Ephesians 2:19 goes on to say “.. so you are no longer strangers and aliens but you are fellow citizens with all the saints and are of God’s household.”
And again in the same book 2:13 l read “But now in Christ Jesus you, who formerly were far off, have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”
Without Jesus we wouldn’t have access to God. Jesus Himself tells us this. In the Gospel of John 10:9 He says “I am the door. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved.”
Again in 1Timothy 2:5 l read “....there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Jesus Christ.”
And furthermore, He tells us in the Gospel of John chapter 14 verse 6: “l am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
God is on our side, He is for us and wants us to...”come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. “Hewbrews 4:16
We can come boldly to God only because of what Jesus has done for us.
Jesus was the willing, blameless, and perfect sacrifice, out of His deep love for us. His death is our way back to God.
More than anything He desires for us to access Him. In Jeremiah 29:13 He urges us “...you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”
There is nothing preventing us from drawing near to God, we can draw closer as much or as little AS WE CHOOSE. It’s up to us.
James 4:8 urges us to: “draw close to God and He will draw close to you.”
Wouldn’t l be reckless to turn my back on Him and walk away from Him while l still have breath in me? Hebrews 2:1 gives me great advice: “For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard so that we do not drift away from it....... and neglect so great a salvation. “
