USC CUT WILL ENSURE RECOVERY IS FELT IN KERRY & ACROSS IRELAND
Fine Gael TD for [Kerry Minister Jimmy Deenihan has said that the significant reduction in the Universal Social Charge (USC) contained in the Budget will make life easier for families and individuals across Ireland.
“This significant reduction in the USC will help ensure that every worker in Kerry and throughout Ireland benefits from the economic recovery that is underway. Reducing USC from 7% to 5.5% on people’s earnings between €18,668 and €70,044 will make a significant difference for working families and individuals. This reduces the tax rate on low and middle income earners to below 50% for the first time since 2009.
“With most new jobs now being created outside Dublin, the USC reductions will be felt by working people across the country. Of the 56,000 jobs created in the last year, over 70% have been outside the capital. So, reducing the USC will ensure that the benefits of the recovery are spread throughout Ireland. “Minister Noonan has increased the entry point for USC payment to €13,000, meaning a further 42,000 workers will no longer have to pay the USC. Over 700,000 of the lowest paid workers will be exempt from the paying the USC from January.
“The USC cuts are sensible, affordable steps that will keep the recovery going and bring its benefits to more households. As a result of this Budget: • a one income family with two children earning €35,000 will see their take home increase by €57 per month or €687 a year; • a single person, working full time on the minimum wage, earning €17,542, will see an increase of 4.2% (€708) a year; • a family with three children with parents working as a Garda and a nurse earning €55,000 and €50,000 respectively will have an additional €196 per month in their pocket (€2,300 per year); and • a self-employed worker earning €40,000 will see a gain of €1,002 in his or her annual net income due to this budget, an increase of 3.5% “Tax cuts are good for our people and our economy. They create jobs, they make work pay and they attract migrants home. And, as with the tax reductions in last year’s Budget, those who will benefit most from the reduction in the USC will be low and middle income workers. The top priority of this budget is to sustain our economic recovery and bring its benefits to every family.
“Today’s USC reduction is the second year in a row that we have reduced the tax burden on low and middle-income earners. If re-elected, we will get rid of the USC altogether over the lifetime of the next government. Ireland now has the highest economic and employment growth in the EU, and over 125,000 jobs (net) have been created since this Government launched the Action Plan for Jobs. Our recovery is real and is helping to improve lives, however I am aware that many people are still to feel the benefit. Today’s announcement will help change that situation for the better.”

KERRY COLLEGE OF FURTHER EDUCATION LAUNCHED BY MINISTER JAN O SULLIVAN
The Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O Sullivan officially launched the refurbished facilities of Kerry College of Further Education on Thursday 8th October at 2pm. On arrival she was received by Chairperson of the Board of Management Mr Terry O’Brien and Director of the College Mr Brian Harkin who brought her on a tour of the building to view the upgraded facilities. Afterwards a ceremony commenced with a speech from Mr Brian Harkin outlining the historical past of the college. Mr Harkin acknowledged that the separation of PLC provision from that of the second level had enhanced the learning experience of all involved. This phenomenal transition could not have been made possible without the substantial funding received from the government. Mr Harkin acknowledged the work of past and present management and staff of the college in getting the college to this stage. He praised existing staff for the support given during the change process. He spoke about the new courses which the college is now offering as a result of the investment. He spoke about the progressive nature of the staff who are always willing to adapt to the new demands being placed on them. Terry O’Brien, Chairperson of the Board of Management acknowledged the contribution that the college has made to the local economy and the tremendous opportunities that now exist for young people. Colm McEvoy spoke about the rationale behind the splitting of the college into two separate local entities namely Colaiste Gleann Li and Kerry College of Further Education. It was made on the back of increased enrolments. The aim was to further increase the post primary enrolments and to enhance the level of PLC provision. He thanked the Department of Education and Skills for providing substantial funding which enabled the project to move forward. The current academic year has seen first year enrolments in the Colaiste Gleann Li increase by over 100% and the enrolments in the KCFE currently stand at approximately 570 students. Mr McEvoy told the audience that an application to formally separate the PLC College and the post primary school has now been made to the Department and asked Minister O’Sullivan to continue to look at that request. This will provide separate roll numbers for both entities and separate management structures. In terms of the future development of the Post Primary School and the PLC College this is a key requirement. Words of thanks were expressed to all involved in this project todate. The Minister was well impressed by the next speaker, Ms Emma Hayes, a past graduate of the Level 5 Office Administration course of the college. Emma spoke about the impact that further education has had on her life. She explained to the audience that it was in this college that she developed a passion for learning under the guidance of teacher Mary Murphy. She found immediate employment with Seefin Data Management as a data processor upon completion of the course. She then progressed to IT Tralee where she obtained an Honours Degree in Information Systems Management last May. Such was the positive experience she had on her Post Leaving Certificate course Emma applied for a place on the prestigious Graduate Diploma in Adult and Further Education at Mary Immaculate College of Education, Limerick. She is now a trainee teacher and has returned to where she started her journey to do her teaching practice. A presentation to the Minister was made by past graduate Nora O’Connor. Nora progressed from the Level 5 Art, Craft and Design course to the Limerick College of Art and Design. Minister Jan O’Sullivan was very impressed with the facilities and stressed the importance of the FET sector and acknowledged that in the past it did not always gain its day the sun. She also announced that phase 2 of the refurbishment will be commencing shortly and assured staff of continued investment and support for the FET sector. A vote of thanks on behalf of staff was given by John Skinner, a teacher of the college. The ribbon was cut officially unveiling of the plaque. Bishop Ray Browne gave a blessing which was warmly welcomed.

LIXNAW HURLING CLUB FIXTURES; County Minor Hurling Championship Final Lixnaw V Ardfert on Sunday October 18th @ 1.00pm in Lerrig. Results; County Minor Hurling Championship Semi Final Lixnaw; 0-21 - Causeway/Ballyduff; 1-15 COUNTY MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP; our minors, inspired by the outstanding Shane Conway are through to the county championship final for the second year in a row following their 0-21 to 1-15 win over a fancied Causeway/Ballyduff team after a hard fought battle in Abbeydorney last Saturday. Causeway/Ballyduff had the better of the first half exchanges and were showing that bit better in the early stages. A goal in the tenth minute gave them the initiative and a three point advantage but Shane Conway with three successive points levelled it up. It was 1-9 to 0-8 in favour of Causeway/Ballyduff at half time and they now were looking the more likely side. However, Lixnaw upped the tempo considerably after the break, Shane Conway pointed five times, John Buckley added two, level pegging 1-12 to 0-15 at the end of the third quarter. Shane Conway, for the second time, was denied a certain penalty but had to settle for a pointed twenty one yard free to put Lixnaw in front. It was a titanic battle from here to the end; Lixnaw regrouped and with a defence in which Liam Mullins, David Silles and Conor O’Keeffe were particularly outstanding, they took control before adding further points from Davin Quilter and Shane Conway to finish 0-21 to 1-15 winners and a place in the final. They now meet Ardfert in the final next Sunday in Lerrig where we wish both the team and management good luck. Team; Robert Silles, Tom Foley, David Silles, Conor O’Keeffe, Liam Mullins, Ger Stackpoole, William Costello, John Buckley, Brian McAuliffe, Shane Conway, Jeremy McKenna, Davin Quilter, Colin Sheehy, Jason Keane Brendan Angland. Subs. Jamie Galvin, Thomas Molyneaux, Orann O’Connell, Jack Allen, Shane McElligott, Mike Dennehy, Steven Keane, James King, Daire Shannon, Sean Kelliher. Scorers; Shane Conway; 0-17. COISTE NA NOG: The Under-13 footballers took part in an exciting semi-final of the Tommy Madden Cup on Saturday in Listowel. A back and forth game saw the home side using 4 goals to stay in the game as Ballyduff continuously tried to pull away by taking their points. Eventually, the extra scores paid off and the boys in green earned their spot in the final, time and date to be announced. First, though, they will have to turn their attention to the replay of the final from the Crotta Ground-hurling Blitz against Abbeydorney, set for Monday evening. The Under-14 girls completed their long football season with an impressive win at home against Listowel. In perfect playing conditions, they took some great scores and defended well as a team throughout the match. Well done on a great season! Finally, the Under-16 footballers traveled to Ballylongford to take on Finuge, also on Saturday. They came away with a two point win after a hard fought match.
LADYS WALK HURLING Lady's Walk 3 - 9 (18) Kilmoyley 0 - 19 We lost the North Kerry Junior League Final replay to Kilmoyley by the bare minimum on Saturday evening last in Causeway. At the end of the first quarter, Kilmoyley deservedly led by 5 (0 - 6 to 0 – 1). However, two well taken goals in the 16th & 18th minutes from Thomas O'Rourke, after being set up by Gary O'Brien & Aiden Boyle respectively, put us ahead by a point. For the remainder of the half, Kilmoyley tacked on four more points while Thomas kept the scoreboard ticking over for us with two more points of his own. Half Time Score: Lady's Walk 2 - 3 Kilmoyley 0 - 10. The second half was even more eventful than the first with the scores level no less than six occasions in this period. Within three minutes of the resumption we had regained the lead with two well taken points, one from Aiden after gaining possession from Joe Bunyan's puckout and the second one from Gary after being set up by Daniel O'Carroll. Kilmoyley responded with two more points before John Paul Leahy leveled matters with a point from play. With twenty minutes remaining John McCarthy latched onto a centre from Thomas and duly struck the net from close range to put us two clear (3 - 7 to 0 – 14). As expected, the Lerrig men responded with three more points to put them back in front. Both sides exchanged two more points each in the final ten minutes and Lady's Walk had a couple of goal chances in the dying moments to sneak a win, but unfortunately the ball skimmed the wrong side of the upright on both occasions. This was an entertaining encounter and the Club wish to congratulate Kilmoyley on their victory.

We ask that material be sent in as soon as possible, whether it be articles or photos. Where at all possible the articles should be typed up and be sent via email or dropped in on a USB key. Every year at this time we make the same request but for some reason many of our contributors wait until the last minute. This makes the publication very late and puts extra pressure on us at a very busy time of the year so, if you have an article, photos or any other material you would like published, please, please do get in contact with us straight away. We need to have all material in by Friday October 23rd at the latest so that will give us a chance to have the journal ready for the Christmas post.

LISTOWEL EMMETS LADIES
Well done to our U11s who were selected to represent Kerry in the PJ O'Halloran tournament in Clarecastle in Clare on Oct 10th. The girls put in 3 superb performances, doing themselves, their club, and their County proud. Wonderful day had by all and a big thanks to all the parents and players for making this possible. A huge thank you also to the coaches and to the parents who volunteered to transport the girls. It was marvellous that the county board saw fit to select the girls to participate this year - a great reflection of how they, together with their Duagh compatriots, have performed this year. Well done again to all.
Congrats to Aishling Kelly and Aoife Horgan from the Emmets U12s who will be representing Kerry next weekend as part of the county U12 development squad. Fantastic commitment by the girls. We wish them all the best and look forward to them donning the green & gold jersey for many years to come. The U11/U12 end of year trip will take place next Saturday (Oct 17th). The trip will include a game against St. Vals in Cork, to be followed by an afternoon of zip wiring in Farran Wood. Looking forward to a fun day after a long and successful season.

Listowel U14s struggled against a strong Castleisland team in the town park on Saturday. The Castleisland pack were totally dominant in the first half although Listowel's tackling and rucking improved dramatically in the second half. Powerful carries from Denis and Kian Dowling and excellent support from Aaron Mulvihill helped to bring us back into the game. Ethan O'Connor had an excellent debut in defense and Daniel McKenna made a fine run when he came on. The highlight of the day was a barnstorming 40 metre run by Ryan Doyle in the lead up to a superb try from Murtie Moriarity
Last Sunday was the first run out for our two girls teams in the Munster League Competition. We were delighted to host our visitor Kilrush.RFC. The first game kick off with our U15 girls. The team started off with great tempo and skill. Plenty of line breaks from the back line but the impressive element that the spectators and their coaches saw was players rucking, with many turnover which gave great confidence for the rest of the players to run in a few tries. This game was played in great sporting manner and ended with the Listowel girls being victorious on this occasion. Next Up is St Mary from Limerick which will be played in Tralee this Saturday. U18 standard of rugby was fantastic under the tutelage of Chip Vivier the girls played an expansive style of rugby with great off loads which released the back with the ball going thought their hands out to the wingers. The scrummaging was fantastic to see and commitment by the girls to each other will hold them in great stead for the remaining of the season. This was a great victory for the Listowel girls Weekend Fixtures - Saturday: U18's boys V Bruff in Bruff at 12 U15's girls V St. Mary's in Tralee at 10.30

BEREAVEMENTS Listowel Celtic lost one of its all time greats last week with the sudden and untimely death of Kevin Gigs Sheehy who passed away on Wednesday afternoon. Gigs had been a great stalwart of the club since 1976 as a player, chairman, committee member and supporter. We all have fond memories of him which we will cherish forever but his fancy dress outfits at Celtic socials will hold a special place in the history of the club. No matter what the occasion was Gigs made it more special with his charm and roguery. He even made our Church Gate Collections memorable with his banter and wit. The club was saddened and honoured to provide a guard of honour for Gigs final journey on Saturday and it was a testament to his popularity to see so many take part. To his heartbroken family, wife Bernie, son Craig, daughters Amy, Ruth & Elise, mother Maureen, brothers Christy, Maurice, Declan, sisters Carmel, Lorna & Audrey, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends we offer our deepest sympathies.
The club would also like to offer sincere sympathy to the family of Isabel McDonough who sadly passed away on Friday. Isabel was daughter of our former President, The Sheriff, Jack Carmody R.I.P. and always had a keen interest in the club especially watching the progress of the female players. To her husband Louis, daughters Emma, Sarah, Lisa, mother Beatrice, brothers Des & Len, sister Mary, grandchildren, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, uncle, nephews, nieces and a large circle of friends our sincere sympathies. Gigs & Isabel " Ye'll Never Walk Alone" U12 Girls: Congratulations to our U12 girls on a fantastic display of skills to win the Munster National Cup which was played in Rathkeale on September 26th. First match was against Kilcoleman and our girls won this 5.0, next up were Cashel and again it was a 5.0 victory for our girls, then it was Park Utd and a 4.0 win here and finally a 4.0 win over Kilmallock put our girls top of the group. Aoife Horgan, Jade Harkin, Aisling Kelly, Eimear O Donoghue and Katie Keane got on the score sheet and were ably assisted by Ciara Butler, Labhaoise O Sullivan-Murphy, Emma Browne, Kiera Large, Megan Large and Tara Enright on the day. They now go on to compete in the last 16 of the National Cup, in the AUL Dublin, on October 25th, we wish them the best of luck! The winning team were Labhaoise O Sullivan-Murphy, Ciara Butler, Aisling Kelly, Emma Browne, Aoife Horgan, Eimear O Donoghue, Jade Harkin, Katie Keane, Tara Enright, Megan and Kiera Large. Team photo attached
U12A National Cup 2nd round: The U12A team made the trip to Tralee on Wednesday evening, October 7th, to take on St Brendans Park in round 2 of the National Cup. We were 1 nill down at half time and then went 2.1 up thanks to goals from Bobby O Connor and Josh Brosnan in the 2nd half, but Park scored again to leave the full time score 2.2. So it was onto extra time
and again the Park were the first to score in the first 10 minutes but the "never give up" attitude from our team was rewarded when the last kick of the game put the ball in the back of the Park's net courtesy of Aoife Horgan to leave it all level for the 2nd time. These two teams could not be separated so it was penalties next and at the end of the 5 penalties it was all square again at 4.4. Our 5 penalty takers were Robert Stack, Adam Segal, Jack O Connor, Anthony Kavanagh and Kieran O Carroll and they all did a superb job. It came to Sudden death and the Park missed the first one so when the ball hit the back of the net from Aoife Horgan's penalty it meant that we were the winners and onto Round 3. Neither of these two teams deserved to loose, they both played extremely well and showed great sportsmanship throughout the entire game. We wish the U12A team and management all the best in Round 3. The winning team were: Jack Maloney, Aidan Swan, Jack O Connor, Daragh Carey, Robert Stack, Josh Brosnan, Adam Segal, Joseph Finch, Anthony Kavanagh, Kieran O Carroll, Aoife Horgan, Bobby O Connor, Breine Costello, Elie Fitzgerald and Aodhan Curley. WFAI Munster Junior Cup: Congratulations to our senior ladies team on a 3.1 win over St Nicholas, Tipperary in the semi-final of the Munster Junior cup. A minutes silence was observed at the start of the match for Kevin "Gigs" Sheehy RIP and Cathriona White RIP. Rebecca Horgan got the first two goals and Amy Foley added a third to secure the victory. They now play Inter Kenmare in the final, date and venue TBC. We wish the ladies all the best! Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for fixtures and results.

BEALE GAA
Beale were defeated in the quarter final of the North Kerry Under-21 Championship, by Knocknagoshel/Brosna in sunny Ballybunion on Sunday. Our opponents got off to a dream start with two goals in the opening minutes which put us on the back foot from the off. We battled hard but succumbed to a stronger team. Goals were the order of the day, with the green flag raised ten times. Beale team: Peter McMahon, Sheamie O’Sullivan, Philly Blake, Stephen Linnane, Wayne Hayes, Blake Hornyiak, Dan Ellis, Darren O’Rourke, Aaron Farrell, Ian Mannix, Shane Hanrahan, Darragh Buckley, Killian Courtney, Alan Breen. Substitutes: Michael Eoin O’Sullivan, Kieran Brosnan. Beale Seniors await details of our County League, Division 3 game against St Patrick’s, Blennerville, to be played in Ballybunion. Third from the bottom of the table, we are hovering in the relegation zone, going into our final game. Date to be confirmed. All to be played for, with a win here to maintain divisional status or a play-off.

FIXTURES: Novice Championship semi-final Ballydonoghue v Lispole Sun Oct 18 @ 2pm in Strand Road Extra Time
RESULTS; Barrett Cup Final. Ballydonoghue 1-16. St Marys 1-6. St. Marys got off to the best possible start with a goal straight from the throw in. Paudraig Lyons got Ballydonoghue on the score board after 5mins with a pointed free. This was cancelled out soon afterwards by a point for St Marys. Ballydonoghue began to settle after the concession of that early goal and points from Brian Mason and Gearoid Kissane had them back in the game. Rory Keating at full forward was causing Ballydonoghue majors problems with the St Marys tactic of letting ball in early resulting in them being awarded a couple of close in frees that they duly converted. Adding two more points to the score board for St Marys in the space of 5mins. But Ballydonoghue never allowed St. Marys to draw clear and Padraig Lyons and Kevin O'Donnell pulled two points back before St Marys added another point. Again Ballydonoghue replied after good work from Gearoid Kissane set up Jack Foley and his shot for goal just skimmed the cross bar and went over for Ballydonoghue's sixth point and bring the first half to a close. Ballydonoghue (0-6). St Marys (1-5). The second half turned out to be a very one sided affair with the young Ballydonoghue side completely taking over as St Marys ran out of steam very early on. Wayne Dowling and Kevin O'Donnell came much more into the game at centre field. This gave the Ballydonoghue forwards plenty of ammunition that they used to good effect. Jack Foley a point after 2mins, Brian Mason 4mins and two points from Micheal Foley all inside 8mins. The killer
32
blow coming two minutes later when a great ball from Conor Kennelly was won on the edge of the square by Jack Foley who turned his marker before blasting to the St Marys net. St Marys did have their fair amount of possession but were not having the success they had in the first half as the Ballydonoghue backs tightened up considerably. While at the other end the Ballydonoghue forwards were finding scores alot easier to come by. Kicking another six points in the remaining mins. With St. Marys only score in the half coming in the 31st min, a fisted effort from Adam Quirke. TEAM; Sean Lyons, Daniel Riordan, Darren Gogarty, Jack O Connor, Kieran O Connell, Conor Kennelly, Kevin Cremin, Wayne Dowling (Capt) Kevin O Donnell, Stephen Foley, Dermot O Connor, Gearoid Kissane, Sean Kissane, Padraig Lyons,, Brian Mason. Subs: Shane Thornton, Jack Foley,(Played) Mike Scanlon, (Played)Padraig Enright, Micheal Foley, Eddie Sheehy (played) David O Connor, Donal Doyle, Conor Horgan Horgan, Dean Dowling(Played). ASDEE GAA
NOVICE COUNTY SEMI FINAL This Sunday at 2pm at Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel Asdee will go head to head with St. Senans in the long awaited County Novice Championship Semi Final. This is really a big ask of Asdee who will be without a number of their regulars due to injury and other commitments; however one can only play with the hand that is dealt and hopefully the team can rise to the occasion but it will take an all out effort if victory can be achieved against a team who are odds on favourites to claim a County Novice Championship Final place.
NORTH CHAMPIONSHIP. Its that time of the year once again as we approach the opening rounds of the Mc Munns, Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion, Sponsored Bernard O Callaghan Senior Football Championship 2015. The local St. Marys have drawn Ballylongford in the opening round and that is sure to attract plenty attention to Walsh Park; however Bally who are going through a rough period at present have a proud championship record and no doubt will be all out to win this local parish derby. Still either team would not be considered contenders for the title. So exciting times ahead for all North Kerry supporters once again. We play Ballylongford on Sunday 25th October

Will Brosna push on from their success last year winning the All Ireland Junior Club Championship? Who will come through between Emmets and Finuge? Well these questions and many more will be answered over the next few weeks. However, to whet the appetite we have two of the strongest contenders facing each other this Saturday in a real rival encounter. A very hard match to call and it may depend on which team has all their players fit and injury free. Last year this game went to a replay and extra time with Listowel just about edging it. Neither team has done well in their county competitions this year but the form book matters little here and we may be set for another very tight finish.

PRAYER TO ST. JUDE Oh glorious apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the name of the traitor has caused thee to be forgotten by many, but the true Church honors and invokes you universally as the Patron of hopeless cases -- of things despaired of. Pray for me, who is so miserable; make use, I implore thee, of that particular privilege accorded thee of bringing visible and speedy help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolations and succor of heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings, particularly (mention your request), and that I may bless God with theeand all the elect throughout eternity. I promise thee, O blessed St. Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favor, and I will never cease to honor thee as my special and powerful patron, and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to thee. Amen. M.K.
THE MIRACLE PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours. This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. J.C.
SACRED HEART May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised, adored, honoured and glorified throughout the whole world forever and ever. Amen. Say 6 times a day for 9 days and publish. A.C.
