CLLR. AOIFE THORNTON ENCOURAGES TENANTS TO CONSIDER PURCHASE SCHEME
Kerry County Council tenants should consider the new tenant purchase scheme as a route to home ownership, Fine Gael Councillor Aoife Thornton said today this week. “The new tenant purchase scheme will come into operation on the 1st of January 2016. This new scheme will enable tenants to buy their homes after many years of paying rent to the Council, and under the new scheme, Local Authority tenants will also be able to avail of a higher discount than was previously available,” Aoife explained.
“The scheme will be open to tenants or joint tenants who have been in receipt of social housing support for a minimum of at least a year, and who have a minimum reckonable income of at least €15,000 per annum. The discount would be linked to the tenant’s income and that of his or her spouse, and could amount to 40%, 50% or 60% of the purchase price. The discounts in this new scheme will also be higher than in previous schemes. The period of the scheme is 20, 25 or 30 years, depending on the discount given to the tenant purchaser. If the purchaser decides to sell the house during that period they will then pay the incremental purchase charge, which withers away to zero over the charge period. So if the tenant stays in the house for the full period, they avail of the full discount.” “I welcome this scheme as it gives the opportunity to tenants, who have invested in their homes over the years, to finally own their property. This scheme also encourages the purchasers to stay in their own homes for a long time, thus creating solid communities.”

CALENDAR TO REMEMBER KERRY’S 1916 HEROS
The Easter Rising in 1916 was a seminal event in modern Irish History. It was the catalyst that led to the War of Independence, the Treaty with the UK and the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922, which eventually became the Republic of Ireland in 1949.
Although it was mostly a Dublin event, Kerry men and women figured prominently in the lead up to, and during the week of the Rising. To acknowledge the crucial role played by these heroic individuals in that historic event, Minister Jimmy Deenihan and An Seanchai – Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel have produced a limited edition Easter 1916 Kerry Centenary Calendar. Each of the twelve months of 2016 is dedicated to a leading Kerry person or persons who had a direct role in the Rising. These include the more well-known figures such as Roger Casement, The O’Rahilly and Thomas Ashe, to those perhaps lesser known, yet equally important including Patrick Shortis from Ballybunion, Michael Mulvihill from Ballyduff and Patrick O’Connor from Rathmore, all of whom died in Dublin during the Rising. The calendar will also provide dates for the main national and local 1916 Commemoration events. Minister Deenihan would like to thank all those historians and relatives who contributed to the calendar, which will become a collector’s item of the Centenary Commemorations.

Tickets are €10, available at local outlets, from the school and members of the parents association.
The calendar will be launched in An Seanchai – Kerry Writers’ Museum, Listowel on this Sunday November 22nd at 7pm. A launch will also take place in Iveagh House, St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin on Tuesday November 24th at 7.30pm. It can also be purchased online at www.kerrywritersmuseum.com. VERY SUCCESSFUL KWIN CONFERENCE IN LISTOWEL
The KWIN Conference “Consenting Adults, Consenting Children” took place in the Listowel Arms last Thursday and it was a triumph with over 100 in attendance. There were speakers from Dublin and locally. The conference provided food for thought and there were inter-active pieces presented throughout the day and conversations were lively and plentiful. The conference got off to a great start with inputs from the various guest speakers laying the foundation and building on the difficult topic. Many opinions were expressed and KWIN hopes that awareness has been raised about this issue and that the conversations will continue between delegates and their friends and families. The outcome of this conference, apart from the personal growth of the attendees, is that KWIN would like to urge everyone to email / phone / text / tweet or facebook Alex White, the Minister for Communications, to urge him to bring in a Bill to make pornography inaccessible in Ireland as has already been done in the UK. You can contact the Minister in the following ways: Email: alex.white@oir.ie | Telephone: 01 618 3972 Twitter: @AlexWhiteTD | Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AlexWhiteTD/?fref=ts In supporting this event NEWKD once again proved that it is investing in progressive community development by embracing this initiative from KWIN, and on a hands-on practical level, NEWKD is prepared to hold internet safety courses for anyone who has concerns about the access of pornography by their children, partners, husbands, wives in the near future. The final last minute touches are now underway in Asdee for this Friday Night’s Fashion Event. It has been many years since a fashion show took place in the Community Centre in Asdee and it is great that the community have got behind this event in aid of Asdee Bord na nOg. Asdee GAA have put a lot of work into this event and the players from the Senior Team are very happy to be hosting the night for the younger boys and girls who are part of Asdee Bord na nOg. From meeting and greeting the guests, to serving up the Wine Reception to Modelling, the lads seem to have it all under control. Ryles Menswear, Tralee and JK Sports in Listowel are looking after the Men. The emphasis of this show is to promote all that is local in our area. The kids section will be covered by Coco Kids in Listowel and also by the GAA Store in Killarney. The ladies boutiques are all local also with East 73rd Ballybunion, Coco Listowel, Cara Carma Designs Kerry, Annaburys Tralee, Glamorous Boutique Listowel, Esthers of Abbeyfeale, La Place Listowel and Brides of Glin. We hope that an event like this will entice the audience to shop local this Christmas and throughout the year. A big thank you also to all the shops and supermarkets who have given spot prizes and sponsorship, we were blow away by your generousity. KEEP LISTOWEL ON THE MAP Brian Finucane
“Living in a rural area and a heritage town we are fortunate to welcome overseas visitors year on year but we also welcome visitors from all around Ireland. Listowel is a place of beauty. It's a place steeped in history. It's renowned for its literary associations. From the Monorail to the Famine Graveyard, the Races to the Garden of Europe, along with the various cultural festivals Listowel has so much to offer to so many. And whilst many visitors know of the treasures awaiting them here, many don't, but they happen upon them when touring the area or passing through to head to the sea perhaps. The proposed bypass will not only stop visitors coming upon our town accidentally but it also proposes to build over some of our nature spots. The Sive Walk for example, an area of beauty and home to local wildlife. It's frequented by locals and visitors alike looking for a safe, relaxing stroll. There are many things in Listowel that as locals we may take for granted. The visitor attractions and the hustle and bustle of tourists each year may be too. If either or both are allowed to decline their presence will be sorely missed and their absence felt.” Public Meeting Thursday 26th November at 7.30 pm in the Family Resource Centre, Stokers lawn, Listowel. All are most welcome.
NINE KERRY SCHOOLS TO BENEFIT FROM MAJOR SCHOOL BUILDING PROGRAMME
Fine Gael TD for Kerry Jimmy Deenihan said that nine schools in Kerry are to benefit from funding under a multi-million euro school building programme. “The Government is unveiling a major school building programme, which involves funding for; Gaelscoil LiosTuathail; Scoil Mhuire KNocknagoshel; SN Mhuire na mBraithre, Tralee; Listellick NS, Tralee; Gaelcholaiste Chiarrai, Tra Li; SN Clochar Daingean & Scoil na mBraithre; St. Brendan's College, Killarney; St Brigids Secondary School, Killarney; Tralee ET.”
“This school building programme sets out over 310 individual major school building projects, which will proceed to construction between 2016 and 2021. Meanwhile the Government is also announcing that 13 new primary and second-level schools are to open in 2017 and 2018. I’m very aware of the pressing need to provide more school places in Kerry, in order to continue to meet the accommodation requirements of our growing school going population” “This funding will facilitate the provision of more school places in Kerry and this significant investment will also support direct and indirect jobs in Kerry. This is all part of Fine Gael’s plan to keep the recovery going. Job creation means more revenue for the exchequer and therefore more money to invest in the services people depend on such as schools. I know how vital it is to parents across Kerry that their children are not just guaranteed a school place, but are guaranteed that they can learn and grow in a comfortable environment, which is conducive to study. Fine Gael is committed to ensuring that this happens.”

KILFLYNN A NIGHT TO REMEMBER FOR JAMES AND DANNY On a truly memorable night for Irish soccer, Two Kilflynn lads shared the spotlight with the boys in green at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin during the course of Monday night’s (16th Nov)dramatic Euro16 play-off. While Martin O’Neill was giving his team the half-time pep talk, as they set about overpowering a fancied Bosnia Herzegovina, a squad of young players that brought the All-Ireland under 14 crown back to Kerry for the first time took centre stage. The Kingdom’s 2015 Kennedy Cup heroes and their management received a rousing ovation when they paraded the trophy at the interval and they were absolutely thrilled to be part of one of the greatest nights in Irish soccer history. It was Great honour for Kilflynn lads, James Sheehan, who was a vital member of the historic Kerry team, also Danny Diggins who was part of the coaching and backroom staff who had the boys superbly prepared for the tournament. Both James and Danny are members of St Brendans Park Fc, Tralee. Last June, Kerry sent shock waves reverberating through Irish football when they beat raging favourites, the Dublin Schooboys League, 1-0 in the Kennedy Cup decider. Well done lads. NORTH KERRY CHAMPIONSHIP Tarbert and Beale once again produced another exciting North Kerry championship encounter with plenty of skill, determination and courage in wet and blustery conditions in Ballylongford last Sunday. This time it was Tarbert who were the victors on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-08. Tarbert selected to play with the strong wind in the first half and following a point from Andrew Doherty it was Beale who took the initiative and were 3-2 up after the first fifteen minutes and looking more dangerous in attack. Tarbert’s switching the roles of Kevin Enright and Donal Leahy opened up the Beale defence more resulting in six unanswered points from Conor Flavin (1), Shane O’Connor (1), Andrew Doherty (2) and Ger O’Sullivan (2) to put Tarbert up 8-3 heading towards half time. A Beale point was met with another Tarbert score to leave Tarbert 9-4 up a half time but facing into a strong wind for the second half. Beale again started well in the second half but their accuracy in front of the post was not helping them. A fisted effort from Kevin Enright put Tarbert further ahead before Beale registered their first score of the half to leave Tarbert 10-5 ahead after fifteen minutes. Tarbert’s defence were playing particularly well but Beale kept plugging away with three more points to make it 10-8 entering the final five minutes. This time though it was Tarbert who were squandering scoring opportunities in front of posts but they held their nerve and were deserving winners in the end of what was a very enjoyable game. Tarbert are now in the semi final where they will play either Asdee or Brosna at a date to be confirmed. Team Jamie Diggins, Michael Heaphy, Jason Wren, Danny Wren, Daniel O’Connor, Ambrose Lanigan, Micheal Carrig, Kevin Enright, Conor Flavin, Micheal Normile, Mark Buckley, Shane O’Connor, Ger O’Sullivan , Donal Leahy, Andrew Doherty, Subs who played Sean Carrig, Evan Allen. The club would also like to mention and thank the sportsmanship shown by the St. Senan’s club in the red card appeal by Tarbert. IRISH BITCHES BE CRAZY by Emma Commerford
'Getting sex advice from Irish nuns was like getting dental hygiene tips from Shane McGowan . . . The journey from Peig Sayers to Miram O Callaghan has been arduous. In Irish Bitches Be Crazy, Emma Comerford shines her provocative and entertaining light on the sometimes erratic psyche of the modern-day Irish woman. Part expose, part how-to guide, you will find out about: How to perform the Walk of Shame with utmost dignity and deal with the ensuing Catholic guilt. How many people you can tell when you are sworn to secrecy. Coping with the consequences of an out-of-control hen party. Acquiring assertive school gate etiquette. Overcoming your Zumba/Pilates/book club antagonists. How alcohol-dependent you and your friends really are. A hilarious mix of wit, razor-sharp observation and self-deprecation, Irish Bitches Be Crazy heralds an exciting new satirical voice and is a must-read for women and men alike!

North Kerry U16 Championship – Final Emmets V St. Senan’s - Sunday 22nd Nov in Ballybunion at 12noon
Recent Results North Kerry Minor Championship – Round 1: Emmets had a good win over St. Senan’s in far from ideal conditions in Finuge on Saturday last as the elements dictated a lot, but fair credit to both sides as they knuckled down well and played some nice football, with St. Senan’s commanding a slight lead at half time on a score of 1-4 to 1-2. Senan’s got to task early into the second half with a goal, but Emmets never gave up with two fine goals to leave the final score Emmets 3-7 St. Senan’s 2-06.
North Kerry U14 Championship Final Bruce Springsteen may still be waiting on a sunny day but our U-14 footballers finally had theirs in Ballylongford last Sunday when they overcame Finuge in the Div. 1 Championship Final on a scoreline of 7-08 to 0-05.This fine team have endured many heart breaking defeats and all in the Club are delighted that everything clicked for them on the day as they produced a passionate display of top class football to control matters from o tus go deireadh. Emmets elected to play with the strong breeze in the first half so it was important they worked the scoreboard while they had the elements in their favour. Niall Lynch gave us the perfect start when he goaled in the 4th minute and Jamie McVeigh pointed shortly after. Finuge got their first score from a free in the ninth minute only for Emmets to respond with a goal from Stephen McCarthy after great play by Darragh Lynch. Finuge pointed from play, followed by a Devan McKenna free and a brilliant point from Tim Scanlon from over 40yrds out. Great play by Stephen McCarthy set up Devan McKenna for a goal and Devan again scored the final score of the half with a super point from 40yds out on the right sideline to leave the score at the small whistle Emmets 3-04 Finuge 0-02. Emmets knew they would be under fierce pressure in the second half but they rose to the occasion to a man. Stephen McCarthy opened the scoring with a free in the 7th min, followed by another Niall Lynch goal. Darragh Lynch pointed after a fine passing movement and Devan McKenna pointed from a free in the fifteenth minute. Finuge got the next three points between the 16th and 20th minutes but it was Emmets who finished strongly with Jamie McVeigh scoring 1-01 and Stephen McCarthy 2-00 before the final whistle blew to the delight of the Emmets players and supporters. The scoreline does not do justice to the Finuge team who never gave up hope and tried valiantly to the end but they found it very difficult to breech a resolute Emmets rearguard. Tom Harte in goals had an outstanding game, and must have been vying strongly for the man of the match award. His handling was superb and he denied Finuge on numerous occasions with top drawer saves. It is reported that all his teammates promised to buy him a big bag of Doritos if he kept a clean sheet in the final so it's safe to say Tom will be busy in the days ahead and we all wonder if we'll recognize him soon!! Killian Faley had a solid game all through, Conor Horgan used his strength well to clear ball after ball and young Jack McElligott had a stormer in the corner-whenever it seemed we were in dire trouble, the curly haired warrior seemed to appear out of nowhere to clear the danger-it is said if he plays on snow, he leaves no footprints! The half-back line of Shane McGrath, Robert O Brien and young Cillian Holly worked tirelessly all day. Darragh Lynch and Devan McKenna were superb in mid-field with Devan picking up the man of the match award-just reward for his inspiring play and contributing 1-03 to his side's tally. Niall Lynch, for not the biggest man on the field, had a super game at wing forward, scoring 2-00 in the process and Tim Scanlon is a great prospect on the other wing. Tim is a very stylish player, who most importantly is more than willing to work really hard for the team and his switch to wing-back for the second half highlights his versatility, where he also did very well. Stephen McCarthy on the 40 is a huge driving force on this team- his honesty on the pitch garners huge respect and his 3-01 made him top scorer on the day. Adam Carroll as always did his best in the corner, as did Cillian Rodriguez and Jake Shine when introduced. Billy Melvin, while named at corner-forward played in the sweeper role to great effect. He is perfectly suited to the job of Libero-he has a great sense of positioning and ability to read the game and cut out countless attacks to set us on our way. Our captain who started at full-forward but also played out the field at times was Jamie McVeigh and he led his team superbly. Outside of the 1-02 he scored from play, he worked tirelessly all day and when he produced his Nan's rosary beads before the game, the omens were good. Patrick Scully, Mark Foley, Aaron Shine and Harvey Whyte made up our squad. Brendan Griffin wasn't noticed with the whistle, always a good sign and the Bally pitch was in great shape. Eddie Anthony Walsh presented The Tommy
Hennessy Cup to Jamie McVeigh who thanked Finuge for a sporting game and the teams mentors for all their hard work. The Club echoes those words of thanks to Martin O Brien, Jerry Fitzgerald, Kieran Lynch and Jake Moriarty. It isn't easy to maintain the enthusiasm required after multiple heartbreaks but to ye’re credit ye did and were rewarded-well done all. This team represented us proudly at the National Feile in Wexford this year, the first time we have travelled to compete in those finals and we hope ye continue to keep training and enjoying playing football in the years ahead.

LISTOWEL RUGBY
Weekend Fixtures: Saturday U14's away to Castleisland at 11 U16's home to Tralee at 11 (Co-Op pitch) U15's girls v Abbeyfeale (friendly) at 1.30 followed by the U18's girls V Abbeyfeale (friendly) both games in Tralee Sunday - U18's away to Young Munster at 12
Our u18s made the journey to Thomond RFC on Sunday last. Thankfully the heavy downpours that had so many games cancelled eased off to allow the game to go ahead. Listowel have had a hard time of late in the Munster Conference and went to Limerick in the hopes of achieving their first victory. We were missing a few regular starting players through injury so had to make adjustments. The back line had to be completely re shuffled with Darragh O'Donoghue making his first start on one wing with Paudie Hunt on the other. Shane Healy started in the centre for the first time alongside James McFarland ,in attack the new partnership caused trouble for the home side and in defence they were solid. Robert Smith controlled the defence and counter attacks from the full back position. In the forwards we had a very experienced front row with Conor Beasley and Killian Downey packing down at either side of Matthew Sweeney. In the second row we also had a new partnership of Tadhg Callanan and Ben Godfrey who linked up brilliantly on a number of occasions. The back row of Patrick Carmody, Colm Stack and captain Darren Kerrins caused heartache for Thomond from start to finish. Right from kick off Listowel were on the offensive with the home team struggling to get their hands on the ball for the first 15 minutes. However with all this possession they were unable to make a difference on the scoreboard. That changed when Thomond had a player sent to the sin bin for repeated infringements and out - half Kevin Dillon kicked for the corner. A maul was formed from the following lineout which was controlled beautifully by scrum half Padraig Hickey. The defence couldn't hold out the power of the forwards and it was hooker Matthew Sweeney that touched down in the corner to take the lead by 5 nil going into the break. Listowel had the wind to their backs in the second half and piled on the pressure again. They fell inches short of the line on two occasions but never gave up the fight to finish off the game. The ball came to Paudie Hunt on the 22 metre line and the winger had only his opposite number to stop him from scoring his first try of the season. After a world class side step Paudie touched down under the posts where Kevin Dillon easily converted. With 10 minutes left Listowel had a 12 point lead. Thomond never gave up and threw all they had at Listowel but the lads with the help of substitutes Eoin Scannell and Keith Kelliher helped ensure they kept their first clean sheet. The game finished 12 nil. It would be an impossible task to select a player that stood out on the day as all players were in incredible form. Next up is another trip to Limerick Sunday when the lads take on Young Munster.

LISTOWEL AC
Munster Cross Country Munster uneven Cross Country took place in Beaufort on Sunday 8th Nov in a downpour of rain early morning at the start of the U9 races. This made for a cold and wet start to proceedings. Listowel AC were represented in the U9's by Joey Maher and John Carmondy. Both of these runners finished in the Top 30. Well done to both of these young runners who had to contend with poor weather conditions. Next up was Ethan Tritschler who put in another good performance in the Boys U11s. As the day began to dry up the more senior athletes took to the filed. In the U15, Seamus Leahy, running in his first Munster XC race, ran an impressive 11th place to qualify for the Nationals later next month. Aoife Mahony and Sasha Brent followed in the girls U17s. Aoife ran a solid race coming in 8th with Sasha just behind in 11th. This was another super run by Sasha who was running outside her age group. Beale contested three of the last four North Kerry Championship finals but this year’s journey came to an end on Sunday in Ballylongford when we succumbed to Tarbert in the quarter final. Tarbert, playing with the breeze, opened the scoring but it was Beale who were dominant in the first quarter as we owned the ball, yet we found scores hard to come by. Tarbert, on the other hand, found the target more easily and we went into the interval trailing by 9 points to 4. Despite rallying for a short while on the changeover, we could not find those vital scores. Our opponents managed only one point in the second half, yet we never seemed to put our stamp on the game and were defeated on a score: Beale 0-8, Tarbert 0-10. Beale team: Seán Dee, Killian Walsh-O’Boyle, Colm Kissane, Neilus Mulvihill, Shane Joy, Paul Collins, Dan Ellis, Jeremy King (0-1), Philly Blake, Ian Mannix (0-1), James McMahon (02), Ger O’Gorman (0-1), Darragh Buckley 0-2(1f)), Barry O’Mahony, Shane Hanrahan (0-1). Substitutes: Jake O’Connell for Ian Mannix, Tom Hayes for Colm Kissane, John Griffin for Shane Joy. Beale Seniors contest the semi-final of the Novice Shield against Sneem/Derrynane on Sunday, November 29th at 2.00pm. Venue to be confirmed. Moyvane await the winners in the final.
Our last game of the County League, Division 3, against St Pats, Blennerville, has been rescheduled for Sunday, December 6th @ 2.00pm in Ballybunion. Third from the bottom of the table, we are hovering in the relegation zone, going into our final game. All to be played for, with a win here to maintain divisional status or a play-off.
In the North Kerry Junior Championship, Beale received a first-round bye and play Duagh / St Senans in the quarter final. Beale Minors received a bye in the Jotty Holly Minor Championship, Division 2 (13-a-side) and play Knock/Brosna in the the quarter final. Dates and venues to be confirmed. Beale GAA extend best wishes to Johhny O’Sullivan who is training with the Kerry Minor squad.
Beale GAA have been saddened at the news of the death of Christy Moloney. Christy played football with Ballybunion through the 1950s and lined out with St Patrick’s in the early 60s, as well as playing with The Town in many Parish Leagues. In the early 50s, finance had to be raised for the purchase of the field, and Christy was among those who signed a guarantee in order to secure
a bank loan. For a number of years, Christy was a member of the club executive committee, which set about developing the field into the fine football pitch we have today and he served as club treasurer in 1958. His daughter, Josephine, carried on the football tradition, helping Beale Ladies win the County Intermediate Championship in the mid-1980s. Beale GAA extend our sympathies to the Moloney family. Ar dheis Dé gurb a anam. We have almost completed our research on the history of Beale GAA and are putting the photo album together. We are looking for more photographs, especially of the older days. If anyone has any, please contact us.

ASDEE GAA
COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee 2-4 Renard 3-8. A battling performance on Sunday last by Asdee was not enough to take the league points on offer from a Killian Young inspired Renard side that included 5 players involved with South Kerry in the County Football final and now the South Kerry side will be involved in a play-off with Moyvane to decide who will be promoted to Division 4 as Division 5 champions. Certainly the final scoreline didn’t do justice to Asdee who despite giving away 2 sloppy games in the first half were always well in the game; however on saying all that Reenard deserved their victory and despite kicking some terrible wides were always that bit sharper overall. In Brian O Sullivan they had the tormenter in chief at centre forward and along with Mark Sugrue, Robert Wharton, Brian Sugrue, Eoin McCrohan and Maurice O Neill they had star players. However Eoin O Carroll, Kieran Kelly, Darragh Keane, Cyril Dineen, Eoin Tydings, Eoin Kennedy were impressive for Asdee. The game played in perfect underfoot conditions at Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel was just 4mts old and a goal and a point from Brian O Sullivan had Reenard ahead by the 4th minute playing against a tricky. 4mts later Paul O Carroll kicked Asdees opening score. Mark Sugrue, Robert Wharton for Reenard and John Doran for Asdee left the score after 20mts 13 to 2pts in favour of the South Kerry side, The North Kerry side were defending well but after a splendid save by James Kelly the ball rebounded to Mark Sugrue and he made no mistake finding the net with 6 minutes remaining in the half. Still Asdee came forward and a high delivery from Paul O Carroll found Padraig Ruddle and he fisted to the net leaving the half time score; Reenard 2-3 Asdee 1-2. Within 2 minutes on resumption Brian O Sullivan had the ball in the Asdee net and even at this early stage now aided by a stiffish wind it looked as if Reenard would pull away but Asdee stuck to their guns Eoin Tydings and Eoin Kennedy with points and a well taken goal from the boot of Mike Breen reduced the deficit to just 2pts by the 11th minute. A magnificent save at point blank range by Asdee custodion James Kelly deprived Robert Wharton when he tipped over for a point by the 3rd quarter. Reenard were now coming more into the game and it took some stern defending by Asdee to keep them at bay. The North Kerry boys failed to register a score for the remainder of the game as Reenard added points from substitute Nigel Curran, Darragh Fitzgerald and Eoin McCrohan, (2) to close out the game.

On behalf of St. Marys, Asdee G A A Club we would like to take this opportunity to thank Tadgh Moriarty and the Listowel Emmets Club for the use of their pitch for our County League Division 5 game with Renard on Sunday last. Mobile: 086 3689061 | Email: osullivan_mairead@yahoo.com NORTH KERRY CHAMPIONSHIP Sponsored by McMunns Bar & Restaurant Ballybunion Quarter Final: Tarbert 0.10 -v- Beale 0.08 This game was played in O'Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on Sunday evening last with very blustery winter conditions, the Board would like to say thank you to Ballylongford GAA as the pitch was in perfect condition under such severe weather conditions. It was Tarbert who had the better first half outscoring 9pts to Beale 4pts, the move of the match was bringing Tarbert's full forward Donal Leahy to midfield to replace Tarbert's Kevin Enright who moved closer to goal. It was Tarbert who were off the mark first in the 4th minute a point from Gerald O Sullivan. It took Beale until the 13th minute to convert an awarded free from Darragh Buckley, Beale did have chances on goal but on two occasions drove the ball wide in the half. Tarbert on the other hand had there shooting boots on and took their points playing with the aid of the breeze. Half time score Tarbert 0.9 v Beale 0.04 Second half and it was Beale who played with urgency having four attacks within the first 3mins their only reward was a point, with three wides, Tarbert on the other hand only managed a point in the second half a long ball into the square which was fisted over the bar by Kevin Enright. Beale went on to score three more points, and at the final whistle would rue the missed chances to fall short by 2pts. So the reigning champions bow out of the championship and Tarbert move on to the semi finals awaiting the winners of Brosna and Asdee. Referee Stephen Mulvihill Ballylonford. SAVA NNA MCC ART HY C ALLED UP T O I R E LA N D WO ME N' S S QU AD Ireland women’s under-19 captain, Listowel’s Savannah McCarthy has earned a callup to the senior squad for the Euro 2017 qualifier against Spain. Coach Sue Ronan included defender McCarthy in a 22-woman squad for the 26 November tie at Tallaght Stadium. She is a potential replacement for Florida State's Megan Campbell and Megan Connolly, who are unavailable due to college commitments. After losing their opening fixture of the campaign to Finland in September, the side bounced back with a hard-fought but well deserved victory away to Portugal last month and Ronan is looking for her squad to build on that result against top seeds Spain, who opened their account with a way away to Finland in October.
Maurice O'Connor / Tankers Bar (Sponsor) with Raymond Downey who won the Best Boxer award at the Trojan Boxing Club Annual Awards in Tankers Bar recently
"We have a great opportunity to put ourselves right in the mix for first place in the group by winning this game and we will be looking to take all three points,” said Ronan. She continued: "It is unfortunate that academic commitments mean both Megan Campbell and Megan Connolly are unavailable but I have been impressed by the form shown in recent weeks by Savannah McCarthy and had no hesitation including her in the squad. It will be a good experience for Savannah, who is still with the U19 squad and an opportunity for her to see at first hand what is required at senior international level."
