TACKLING THE HOUSING CRISES BY INCENTIVES FOR LANDLORDS - JOHN BRASSIL T.D.
Fianna Fail TD for Kerry John Brassil has said that the Government must incentivise landlords and property owners to refurbish idle properties. Deputy Brassil said he “came across a substantial quantity of vacant properties that were in a good state of structural repair but require some refurbishment to become habitable. “If the Government want to tackle the housing crises, they need to look at all proposals and my suggestion would be the provision of grant aid assistance to landlords to encourage them to refurbish properties to a decent living standard and in turn they must commit the property for renting to the long term lease scheme or RAS.”
“The idea should at least be considered, the social housing demand in Kerry is intensifying as more and more families are finding it increasingly difficult to find suitable accommodation, with over 5000 on the Social Housing waiting list in Kerry alone, the subject of housing has become a defining issue for Government. We need practical solutions that can be implemented without delay before the situation deteriorates further. It would also bolster the construction industry and the possibility of new jobs which is always a very welcome consequence.”

Nora, a nurse by profession resided in Cricklewood London for a number of years and it was there she met her husband, William (Bill). She was one of that illustrious band of migrants that graced the dancing floor of the famed Galtymore Dance Hall in Cricklewood which was only a stone’s throw from Cedar Road where she lived. Nora was renowned for the quality of her baking and will be missed by her many friends who enjoyed the delicacies produced from her old Irish recipes. Nora was predeceased by her husband William and is survived by her nephew John Lyons and his wife Anna, Niece Margaret Walsh and her husband John Paul, grandnephews; Jeremiah, and Seamus, grandniece, Marian, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family members, relatives neighbours and friends to whom our sincere sympathy is extended. Nora’s remains were removed from St. Mary’s Funeral Home Tarbert to St. Mary’s Church Tarbert on Saturday April, 9 at 7pm. Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul was celebrated by Fr. John O’Connor on Sunday April, 10, at 11:30am. Interment took place in Kilmurry Cemetery, Rakestreet, Crossmolina, Co. Mayo. May She Rest in Peace! Senior County League: Tarbert lost another two valuable points in Division 3 of the county league last Sunday against Dromid Pearse on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-8. Played in Shannon Park where underfoot conditions were heavy Tarbert got off to the worst possible start where straight from the throw in Dromid got a goal. Andrew Doherty responded with two points before before Dromid and Tarbert exchanged points to leave the score 1-1 to 0-3. A Ger O’Sullivan free leveled score but Tarbert were guilty of missing numerous scoring chances at this crucial stage of the game and the score at half time 1-4 to 0-5 in favour of Dromid. An excellent point from Ambrose Lanigan reduced the deficit to one but instead of Tarbert grabbing the initiative it was Dromid who registered the next five points half way through the second half. Tarbert did rally with two more points from Andrew Doherty but in the end Dromid were deserved winners. Tarbert now have no points with three games gone in the league and with the next game not until early June there task is even harder. At Under-14 level, the footballers managed a win at home to Fossa on Wednesday by a scoreline of 2 - 3 to 0 - 6. BEREVEMENTS Unfortunately the last week has been marred once again with sadness in this Community as we lost another marvellous person whom had been a very well respected woman of our community for many years. On Monday 4th April, the sad news filtered through of the passing of the late Margaret Doherty (née Murphy) R.I.P. of Rusheen. Madgie as she was more affectionately known was a very jolly woman with a great sense of humour. She was a wonderful family woman, and doted and was proud of her family’s achievements. Madgie and her husband Pat reared a big family of seven children, four girls and three boys all of whom are now living in various parts of the world. Madgie passed peacefully in the presence and loving care of her family and staff at the University Hospital Tralee on Monday afternoon. She is deeply regretted by her loving husband Pat, her children, daughters Mag, Sharon, Jean and Diana, sons James, P.J., and David, her sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four sons-in-law, her three daughters-in-law, her two sisters and one brother, nieces and nephews, family, relatives and large circle of neighbours and friends, to whom we offer our deepest sympathies Margaret (Madgie's) remains were removed from Lynch's Funeral Home, Main Street, Ballylongford on Thursday evening, April 7th, to St Michael of the Archangel Church, Ballylongford. A TIME OF TORMENT By John Connolly A Charlie Parker Thriller
Jerome Burnel was once a hero. He intervened to prevent multiple killings and in doing so damned himself. His life was torn apart. He was imprisoned, brutalized. But in his final days, with the hunters circling, he tells his story to private detective Charlie Parker. He speaks of the girl who was marked for death but was saved, of the ones who tormented him, and an entity that hides in a ruined stockade. Parker is not like other men. He died, and was reborn. He is ready to wage war. Now he will descend upon a strange, isolated community called the Cut, and face down a force of men who rule by terror, intimidation, and murder. All in the name of the being they serve. All in the name of the Dead King.
APRIL MARKS ROSACEA AWARENESS MONTH
What is rosacea? Often called “the curse of the Celts”, rosacea is surprisingly common considering how few people know about it. The first signs of rosacea usually appear between the ages of 30 and 60 and it is more common in women than men What are the symptoms? Unfortunately, there is no one specific test for rosacea, but there are some signs mainly characterised by redness of the skin on your face - particularly around your cheeks, nose and forehead. In some cases, rosacea can also affect the neck and other parts of the body too. Because rosacea is a relapsing condition, you may experience periods with no symptoms whatsoever before it comes back more severe than ever.
What are the causes? Certain things are known triggers; such as alcohol, spicy foods and exposure to the sun. Rosacea can also be triggered by both cold and warm weather, depending on the person.

How do I treat it? While there is no known cure, rosacea can be treated and the effects minimised. Organic seaweed-based products can be used to tackle a range of skincare issues thanks to the salt and minerals contained within the seaweed. Voya Organic Skincare Products naturally occurring minerals help skin hydration, improve skin barrier function and have even been shown to decrease inflammation in atopic dry skin. And because Voya products are certified organic, you can trust that you’re using entirely natural ingredients that are free of any nasty chemicals and are Irish. Worried about rosacea? If you’re worried about your rosacea or you’d just like to give your skin some TLC, come and try our Voya Deluxe Facial, specifically suited to rosacea prone skin. This organic seaweed facial also includes a relaxing back and scalp massage. To book call Nadur Spa at the Ballygarry Hotel on 066 7144560 or email spa@ballygarryhouse.com. Results: County Senior League Div 2: Round 3 Listowel Emmets 0-013 Spa 1-14 Frank Sheehy Park was the venue as Listowel Emmets played host to Spa in Division 2 of the County League on Saturday afternoon last. Both teams came into this game unbeaten and a lively game was promised from the outset. The home team were first on the board with a good score by Cormac Mulvihill from a tight angle. Conor Cox was next to raise the white flag from a placed ball to put Emmets in front by 0-02 to no score. Emmets looked to be settling better in the early stages and were working hard in all sectors of the field. It wasn't until the 6th minute that Spa really came into the game and did so impressively rattling off 3 scores without reply to take the lead, with Andrew Garnett and Craig Hickey to the fore. Conor Cox got his fist to a long ball into the Spa square and drew the home side level on 11 minutes. The game was nip and tuck before Spa full forward Mike Foley got free and blasted low and hard to the corner of the net. Both teams traded blows with Cox and Mulvihill scoring for Listowel while Foley and Hickey pointed for the away side to leave the score at 0-5 to 1-05 with ten minutes to go to the break. Emmets recovered well from conceding the goal and worked hard to get back into the game with Jake Moriarty and Maurice Whelan winning some important 50-50 clashes and Denis Walsh sending over a beautiful score to leave just one between the sides. With just 3 minutes left to the halftime whistle, Emmets custodian Keith Hughes pulled off the first of 3 great saves when he tapped a rocket of a shot from Craig Hickey around the post. The visitors really had the bit between the teeth now and tacked on two more score before the break, 1 each from Shane Lynch and Andrew Garnett. Half-time score: Emmets 0-07 Spa 1-07
Second Half: As the rain started to fall, Emmets came roaring out of the blocks and hit four scores without reply to race into a one point advantage, Aidan Quinn, David Sheehy and a Conor Cox brace doing the damage. The home side were in control all over the park and really took the game to Spa who found it very hard to contain their opponents. Darragh Leahy, Jake Moriarty and Jack McGuire all grew into the game and it wasn't until the 9th minute that the visitors worked the scoreboard with a placed effort by Craig Hickey. That was just what the doctor ordered as the tables totally turned and it was the Killarney sides turn to hit another 3 without reply, with Evan Cronin and Dan O'Donoghue adding their names to the score sheet either side of another Craig Hickey free. With 8 minutes left on the clock, Keith Hughes was again called into action in the Emmets goal-line with a superb double save to keep Listowel in the game. Andrew Garnett who had a fine second half, sent over a '45 to stretch Spa's lead to 4 but the home side would not lie down and fought tooth and nail for every ball. Another Conor Cox brace gave Emmets hope of getting something out of the game before Mike McCarthy and Craig Hickey sealed victory for the visitors with two well worked scores. This was a tough battle between two good sides who really should hold their own in this years campaign. Emmets worked extremely hard to get back to level terms and will be slightly disappointed that they didn't threaten the scoreboard more often. They have a good mix of youth and experience and on another day could well have come out on top. Final Score: Emmets 0-13 Spa 1-14 Listowel Emmets: Keith Hughes, Jake Moriarty, Jack McGuire, Darragh Broderick, Darragh Leahy, Micheal Lynch, Maurice Whelan, Tom McCarthy, Cormac Mulvihill 0-02, Cathal Keane, Denis Walsh 0-01, David Sheehy 0-01, Aidan Quinn 0-01, Conor Cox (Captain) 0-08 4f, Dara Hughes Subs used: Shane Quinn, Sam Tarrant, Noel Kennelly, Tom Melvin, Sean Gilbert, John Heaphy Fixtures: Junior Club Championship Lispole V Listowel Emmets Date: Sunday, April 17th 2016 in Lispole at 2.30pm Our seniors take on Lispole next Sunday in the Junior Championship. Emmets U14 Div 4 team travelled to play Beaufort on April 3rd. The game was played in beautiful conditions with both teams serving up a very sporting contest. After some tentative finishing Beaufort finally broke the deadlock after 7 minutes. They continued to dominate the first half and had built up a significant lead by half time. The Emmets girls came out fighting in the second half and really showed their mettle. They outscored their hosts in the second half but the lead proved to be too much and the Beaufort girls ran out comfortable winners. Well done to both teams. Our U14 Div 4 team also travelled to Tralee to play Churchill on April 9th. In terrible weather conditions the Listowel girls were always in control of this game. Emmets were ahead 4-2 to 1-0 at half time with Nadine Moloney contributing heavily to the scoreline. The second half continued in much the same vein with the Emmets backs in complete control. Zara Doherty had a very strong showing at mid field while Emma Browne was excellent in defence.. Emmets eventually ran out winners 7-7 to 1-1 and will face Castlegregory at home next week.

ASDEE GAA
STARS IN THEIR EYES. The Asdee Community Centre was packed to capacity on Saturday night last which was the clubs Fundraiser along with the celebrating of 30th years of the club since it was reformed in 1986. Without doubt this will be an occasion to cherish when we look back on the event and even though there were so many exciting times in the Community Centre down through the years; this will be well up there with the best Sixteen acts from around North Kerry went head to head for the popular and judges. votes on the night as each act performed their version of a well known song or singer in an attempt to capture the audiences heart
Those who took to the stage after rigorous preperation were simply awesome with each showing their tremendous talents. Then after a marvellous nights entertainment our esteemed adjudicators of Deirdre Walsh of Radio Kerry fame; Helen O Carroll, Solicitor, Listowel/ Duagh and former Bogadier and Actor from Banemore; Mike Joe Thornton and who all agreed afterwards that it was probably one of the toughest events they had to adjudicate on; such was the talent that was on display. However after long deliberations and plenty noise from the rival camps it was the duet of Annamay Wall and Mark Hennessy, from Ballybunion singing “The Prayer”by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion who got the nod to enter the winners enclosure. Still more to be confirmed and the winner of the Audience Vote and “Star of the Night” was none other than Catherine Kennedy,The Village singing Christina Aguilers Beautiful and Shania Twains; Man I feel like a woman. Then we had Jessica Dee Tydings, Ballynoneen, singing “Hitt the Diff” and she received the award for the Popular vote. All prizes were presented by Chairman of Club; Padraig Vallelly. Certainly the night couldn’t have gone better and this is due to the tremendous work by the organising committee led by Eoin Kennedy; Eoin who was the brainchild of the event and may be better known for his footballing qualities on the field of play but is equally as good at planning and organising when it comes to stage and if that wasn’t enough for the former Kerry Minor footballer he was Fear a Ti and was as comfortable introducing on stage as he is at number 11 on the senior team; keeping everything running smoothly on the night. To each and everyone of our participants you were all winners and the club are indebted to each of you for competing and making it a night to remember. Not forgetting our many sponsors from the parish and beyond and our loyal supporters who not for the first time came up trumps in our Fundraising; the club really appreciates your generosity. A special word of thanks to Jimmy Quinn who supplied all the Sound equipment free of charge; along with Fintan, Martin and Ritchard, Then we had all the volunteers who gave endless hours preparing for the show; along with and during, afterwards; thank you all. Following the nights entertaintment and the crowning of our winners, the music and craic continued to flow. MINOR COUNTY LEAGUE: Asdee/Bally 4-12 -v- Keel/Listry 5-10.

Senans lost a true son with the passing of John (Jack) “The Skinner Stack” Stack on April 5th. John Passed away peacefully at home in Banemore. John affectionately known as “The Skinner” was born in 1946. Allegedly John got his nickname from his footballing exploits. He began his career with his local club St Senans. He also played with St Michael’s College, Listowel and UCC where he won a coveted Sigerson cup medal in the mid-sixties. He also won a Cork senior County Championship medal with UCC. He was a tough but fair player. He began his career at full back and later played at full forward for his club. John was held in high esteem by all who knew him. A guard of honour by St Senans GAA club greeted John’s remains at the top of the “Avenue” in Banemore on his arrival back to his home from O’ Carroll’s funeral home. The GAA members shouldered his coffin along the road to his home. . When his playing days came to an end, he took on many roles within St. Senans. Down through the years he has been chairman, secretary, trainer, selector, delegate and always an ambassador for the club. He was Vice-Chair of the North Kerry Football Board for many years, during which time he was an able lieutenant to its Chairman, Bernie O’ Callaghan. John was a one off. When he was created, the mould was taken away. Slán go fóill, a Sheáin agus go néirí an bother leat. OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity (Mention your request here) There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Holy Mary, I place this prayer in your hands (3 times). Amen. This prayer is never known to fail and is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. G.W.
UNFAILING NOVENA TO TO ST. ANTHONY
"Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints" O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble and anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen. S.E.
THE MIRACLE PRAYER Dear Heart of Jesus in the past I have asked many favours. This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. R.N.
