‘’Damien and John Cashell from Kilflynn are delighted to announce that Cashell Solicitors are expanding and opened a branch office at Charles Street, Listowel. Having set up our practice in Tralee almost five years ago we are very pleased with our progression and expansion. Our growth is thanks to the support of our clients, the personal attention we give our clients | together with a recovering economic landscape. Opening in recessionary times was a challenge. Of course the recovery in the economy has facilitated a growth in the property market with the result being an increase in conveyancing together with an increase in other areas of law. The general outlook of people & businesses is recovering. We have found that even in the worst of times providing a highly efficient & personal service in all areas of law has been key to our success. It has been our experience to date that people expect & deserve efficiency and full transparency & meeting those expectations is one of our key motivating factors. Trust & confidence have never been so important within the legal profession. Being from north Kerry, opening a branch office in Listowel was always at the forefront of our minds. We have a large number of clients from the Listowel & North Kerry area, so we took the decision to open a branch office in Listowel to best facilitate those clients together with new clients which we hope to attract. Listowel has a thriving community & we want to serve that community as best we can.’’

HEARTFELT CARDIO SCREENING

DID YOU KNOW THAT 27 PEOPLE DIE OF HEART ATTACK IN IRELAND EVERY DAY? The BPro Cardio Pulse-Wave screening shows you the condition of your heart and the flexibility of your arteries. The procedure is non-invasive and completely pain-free. The cost of an individual BPro test is €50 and although we allocate 45 minutes to all our clients, the actual procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will get a full printout of your condition, which can be given to your doctor or medical advisor. What is BPro Screening? If we cut off the Oxygen to the cells in our Heart...The Heart Muscles will begin to die, stimulating a Heart Attack. If Oxygen is cut off to the Brain....the Brain cells will be starved, triggering a stroke. Until recently the only way to test the condition of the arteries and to measure the arterial blood pressure was by an invasive procedure called an angiogram. Recently a new method was developed called BPro and it is faster, non-invasive, equally as accurate (99.17%) and a fraction of the cost. The BPro machine is a completely mobile test kit, comprising of a wrist sensor and a laptop. It can be brought to any location, including your home, organization or workplace. The BPro Cardio Pulse-Wave device offers the most advanced technology in the cardio screening market. It can instantly and accurately measure the health of the cardiovascular system. Cardio Pulse Wave Analyzer, BPro and A-Pulse CASP Software have been approved as a Class II Medical Device to evaluate the status/age of cardiovascular systems by the following agencies: FDA Approved (USA) CE Mark (Europe) BHS (British Hypertension Society) NHS (UK) In addition, BPro has been validated independently by the National Heart Centre of Singapore in compliance with protocols set by the Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and European Society of Hypertension (ESH). Heartfelt Cardio Screening is a small family run partnership based in Co Tipperary. Anna has completed the UK based, Health Stats PWA Training for Clinical Operators Course and is a fully qualified Technician. Jimmy is an agent for Synergy products in Ireland and can advise on the use of all three products i.e. Pro Argi9, Mystify and Phytolife. Jimmy will make himself available for consultation after each screening session should the client wish to learn more about these fantastic products. For further information or to make an appointment, please contact: Anna on 086 4135555 or Jimmy on 086 2566422 Screening Can Save Your Life Screening is non invasive and is similar to an angiogram. This device also tests the stiffness of the arteries, as we get older our arteries get stiff with a build-up of plaque and cholesterol which can prevent the blood from flowing freely. What the test does - It tests your heart your arteries and your blood pressure giving you your overall heart health.

FRENCH AUBRAC CATTLE NOW IN NORTH KERRY

Farmer Billy Lynch from Moyvane adds this old French breed of cattle to his herd. The first animals were brought into Skibbereen from the U.K. as embryos (1 heifer – 2 bulls) in 1992. Straws were taken from the best bull and used on dairy and suckler cows, mostly in the West Cork region. The next shipment of in-calf and maiden heifers arrived from France in County Kildare in the autumn of 1996. And now in the North Kerry Region in the winter of 2015 there is a new herd of this French origin animal starting of fin the yard of Billy Lynch of Tarmons, Moyvane. Billy is one of the first farmers to bring this breed of animal to North Kerry with his nearest neighbours in Clare and Cordal. With the Aubrac renown for its low maintenance costs, ease of calving, temperament, meat and high longevity Billy hopes to increase his herd and breed purebreed Aubrac long into the future.

KNOCKNAGOSHEL SPIKE PLAYERS PRESENT ‘THE MOUNTAINY PUCK’ IN ST. JOHNS

Knocknagoshel’s Spike Players will bring their play ‘The Mountainy Puck’ to St. John's Listowel this Friday night January 22nd at 8pm. It is a brand new play written by our very own Chris Barrett and it is a very well written comedy set in rural Ireland in the seventies!

The Spike Players was formed in September 2009 when local woman Josephine Roche approached the KETB for support to get Drama off the ground in Knocknagoshel. Immediately the KETB were on board and appointed The famous Padraig Dennehy from Lovely Lixnaw as our tutor. Padraig and the KETB have supported us since and for that we are most grateful. After a few successful productions such as Wigs on the Green, Run for your Wife, Moll, one of our very own fine actors Chris Barrett, put pen to paper and wrote a grand play ‘The Mountainy Puck’, which was staged earlier this year and was a resounding success.

It was decided at the end of that season to enter the One Act Drama Circuit and Padraig gave us every encouragement to press ahead with Jack Furey, a beautiful play by the late Bryan Mc Mahon. As this was our very first time in competition we did not anticipate any huge success but contrary to our belief we came first in Shannon! Second in Gorey and third in Cork City. Michael Finnegan got best actor in Gorey and Cork where our adjudicator was Alan Howley of Fair City fame. This was a very demanding and expensive undertaking but with the support of the group and Padraig who went far and away beyond the call of his duty it was a great achievement and success.

To finish off this season of drama we are taking The Puck as the play is now more familiarly known on tour. We will be in St. John's in Listowel on this Friday January 22nd, Killorglin February 5th, Kilcummin on Feb 12 and 13 and Abbeydorney February 20th. For more info you can find us on Facebook at Knocknagoshel Spike Players.

DOLLY HENNESSY R.I.P. The death occurred recently of Dolly (Elizabeth) Hennessy (nee Conroy) wife off the late Michael Hennessy. Dolly who was born in Dublin was a great supporter of her native Dubs even when they played Kerry. But she was justifiably proud of the achievements of her husband Michael and her sons John & Mike on the hurling fields of Kerry and beyond. On behalf of Ballyduff GAA we tender our sincere sympathy. Our AGM which was fixed for January 8th was postponed as a mark of respect. DER O’CONNOR & PADDY CURTIN R.I.P. Sympathy is also extended to the families of Der O’Connor & Patrick (Paddy) Curtin who passed away recently. Der was a former Chairman of the North Kerry Football Board and had the distinction of presenting the Bernard O’Callaghan Trophy to Ballyduff Captains in 2005 & 2006. Paddy Curtin was a brilliant underage player and represented his Club & County with distinction at all levels. His death following an accident in Guatemala was a huge shock to all who knew him. May they Rest in Peace.

RICHARD (DICK) O’CONNOR R.I.P. Sympathy is extended to the O’Connor family, Ferry Road, Ballyduff on the death of Richard (Dick) O’Connor who died in the U.S.A. Richard played hurling with Lady’s Walk & Ballyduff and football with Ballydonoghue & Ballyduff before he emigrated to the U.S.A. where he did Trojan work with Kerry Football in New York. North Kerry Junior Cup Ballylongford B 2-8 Finuge B 0-5 Ballylongford qualified for the final of Junior Championship with a good win over Finuge played in Finuge on Sunday. Playing with aid of the wind Ballylongford were slow to come to terms with the conditions and it was Finuge who opened the scoring. Joe McCarthy opened our account with a point in the 10th minute two minutes later Padraig O’Neill had the ball in the net after a good passing move. Two long-range points from Matt Connor and another from Brendan Bambury in quick succession had Ballylongford in the driving seat. Liam McCarthy added another before Michael Lynch was upended in the square and Joe McCarthy converted the resulting penalty. Half Time Score Ballylongford 2-8 Finuge 0-1. Finuge now with the aid of the wind racked up three points without reply in the early exchanges and were closing the gap. Joe McCarthy lifted the siege in the 10th minute with a well-taken point. UP AGAINST THE NIGHT By Justin Cartwright

'History‌is seldom able to convey the essence of being human' Frank McAllister has become wealthy in England, where he has lived for thirty years. He has a house in Notting Hill, a house in the New Forest, and a house near Cape Town. But more and more he feels alienated in England. As the book opens, he is preparing to go to South Africa with his lover, Nellie. He is also waiting anxiously for his daughter, Lucinda, to arrive from California, where she has been in rehab. Frank is a descendant of the Boer leader, Piet Retief, who was murdered by the Zulu king Dingane, along with all his followers, in 1838. He has been an icon of Afrikaners ever since. Frank's Afrikaner cousin, Jaco, has become moderately famous on YouTube for having faced down a huge white shark. He is now in America, where he has joined the Scientologists. His chaotic and violent life spills over on to Frank. He is drawn into a world of violence and delusion that is to threaten the family. Justin Cartwright possesses that rarest of novelist's skills - the ability to create fiction which is intensely serious but which also vividly encompasses the absurdity and comedy of life. Up Against the Night is a subtle, brilliant novel about South Africa, its beautiful, superbly evoked landscape, its violent past and its uncertain present. Justin Cartwright is a descendant of Piet Retief.

Liz & Mags Horgan of Finesse Bridal Wear who celebrated 16 years in Business this week!

the week this week so well done to all involved and keep up the good work.

U12 C's: Our U12 C team lost 5.1 at home to Killarney Celtic on Saturday last. It was our lads first game since September and the rustiness showed. We took the lead 1 0 with a great individual goal from Brodie Stack. He intercepted a poor kick out and took the ball past two defenders before slamming it past the keeper. Unfortunately we seemed to go down hill from there and Killarney Celtic wasted no opportunities in front of goal. Hopefully the weather will now start to ease and our boys can get a run of games together which will see them get back to their best. The team was: Darragh Reidy, Danny Breen, Jack O Keeffe, Niall Horgan, Bobby McCarron, Nikolai O Callaghan, Phoenix Costello, Gearoid Mulvihill, Brodie Stack, Robbie Daly, David Lynch, Sean Keane, Harry Kenny and Cathal Sweeney. Congratulations and well done to Josh Brosnan on making the Kerry Schoolboys/girls team of the week. LISTOWEL RUGBY

Listowel U14s played Killorglin at their new pitch in Cromane on Sunday. We were competitive throughout but were edged out in the end. Some of our pivotal players cried off with illness before the game causing a substantial reshuffle of the players positions. All the lads seemed to enjoy the change and excelled in their new responsibilities. John Carmody showed great skill and composure under pressure in his first start at scrumhalf. The Dowling brothers, Denis and Kian, were reunited in the forwards and both made huge ground with ball in hand. Conor Mannion and Liam Quilter showed great spirit and desire to secure ball at ruck time. Our latest “signing”, Ryan Large is growing in confidence all the time and excelled at lineout time.

Our top tackler and man-of-the-match was Aaron Mulvihill who worked relentlessly for the team, tackling like a demon from the start to the final whistle. Joseph Murphy and Cale Sweeney were also outstanding at tackle time and their assured distribution added to our much improved shape in attack. The backs moved the ball well under pressure with Emmett McAuliffe and Jack Doherty making sparkling runs. Shaun Hunt and Seamus Stack tackled bravely on the wings to keep Killorglin at bay. Shane Healy enjoyed the extra space in his first start at centre and showed great speed to score our first try following slick passing across the backline. Murtie Moriarty moved from the backrow to his old position of outhalf, from where he displayed his usual explosive drive to score our second try. Beale Juniors are through to the final of the North Kerry Championship, following victory over Duagh on Sunday in Ballybunion. A strong cross field wind mitigated against good play, and while we were slow to start, we went into the interval on a 0-4 to 0-1 cushion. Duagh found it hard to hit the target and were guilty of wayward shooting as we tagged on points coming up to the short whistle. Both sides added three points in a low-scoring second half and the game ended: Beale 0-7, Duagh 0-4. We now play Ballylongford in the final. Date and venue to be confirmed. Beale lined out as: Dermott Cummins, John Blake, Stephen Galvin, John M Horgan, Rory Mulvihill, Killian WalsheO’Boyle, Stephen Linnane, Tom Pierce, Maurice O’Connor, Alan Breen, Ian Blake and Cillian Courtney, Darragh Buckley, Brendan Brannan, Gearóid Costelloe. Substitutes: Kenneth Mannix for Gearóid Costelloe, Jonathan Carr for Maurice O’Connor, Maurice O’Connor for Killian Walshe-O’Boyle, Killian Beasley for John M Horgan. Best wishes to Johnny O’Sullivan who is training with the Kerry Minor squad and hopefully Cormac Linnane will soon be well enough to join the ranks too. Beale Seniors contest Div 3 of the County League again in 2016. Players, mentors & supporters set off on a trip to the sunshine in Gran Canaria on Tues.

For the past few years, a committee has been busy at work researching and putting together the history of Beale GAA. We have traced the history of football in the parish of Ballybunion back to the 1890s and have been are heartened at the response from many, many people who have shared their stories, photographs and mementos with us. As we near completion of this project, information is still coming in. Plans are in place to publish the book later this year and we are appealing to anyone who has photographs, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks or other information to contact Jimmy Buckley, Liam Browne, Catherine Ellis, Bríd Griffin, Paudie Mulvihill, John Hennessy or Tom Allen in the next few weeks. The DVD of Beale GAA Strictly Come Dancing is now available. Cost €15. DVD may be ordered by contacting Bríd Griffin @ 087 6686027 or emailing griffnbrid@gmail.com or through the Beale GAA Facebook page.

FAHA v NEWTOWN AND THE CRAUGHDARRIG/ASDEE CONNECTION With the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial Senior Football Championship done and dusted for another year and Listowel Emmets champions once again for the 15th time three behind leaders Moyvane. Many might not be aware that this is the 90th anniversary of the first North Kerry League which began back in 1925. (Now known as the North Kerry Championship) and back then the interest was just as keen as it is to this present day. The 1925 North Kerry League was between Faha and Moyvane, or Newtown as it was then called which included many from the local Craughdarrig/Asdee area. It was played in Listowel which was the only official G A A pitch in North Kerry at that time. The game aroused terrific interest and was known as the “North Kerry All Ireland” and was to become something of a gold mine for the North Kerry Board as it took two games to separate the sides on this occasion. Both games attracted huge crowds; 104 pounds was collected at the first game at 6d old pence per head and 98 pounds was taken at the replay which Newtown won. These were remarkable gates as money was very scarce at that particular time with the only mode of transport was horse and trap, common car or a bicycle. The highlight of those games was the clash of the famed Kerry midfield pairing Bob Stack and Con Brosnan and who were regarded as the two best midfielders in the land at that time. An interesting feature of the game was that brothers played on different sides. Bill and Jack Finucane played with Moyvane and another brother Paddy lined out with Faha; Paddy who was father to the ledgendary Mick Finucane of Urlee, Ballydonoghue (the only survivor of the 1947 Polo Grounds in 1947) and was later to become a T. D. Drawn mainly from the Beale-Craughdarrig area, there was no parish rule then and they built their team around Jack Walsh in defence and Bob Stack at midfield. This is how Faha lined out in those historic games 90 years ago ; Jamsie Collins, Trippol, Pat Burns, Faha, Jack Walsh, Craughdarrig, Tom Pierce, Gullane, Dan Leahy, Bromore, Mick Kissane,Rahavannig, Paddy Finucane, Urlee, Bob Stack, Doon, Rodger Kissane, Rahavannig, Jim Keane, Dirra, Paddy Farren, Garda stationed in Ballybunion, Pat Pierce, Bromore, Sean Coughlan, Craughdarrig, Paddy Kelly, Craughdarrig, Bill Boyle, Craughdarrig. Sub who played was Tommy Walsh, Craughdarrig.

BALLYLONGFORD GAA

North Kerry Junior Cup - Ballylongford B 2-8 Finuge B 0-5 Ballylongford qualified for the final of Junior Championship with a good win over Finuge played in Finuge on Sunday. Playing with aid of the wind Ballylongford were slow to come to terms with the conditions and it was Finuge who opened the scoring.Joe McCarthy opened our account with a point in the 10th minute two minutes later Padraig O’Neill had the ball in the net after a good passing move. Two long range points from Matt Connor and another from Brendan Bambury in quick succession had Ballylongford in the driving seat.Liam McCarthy added another before Michael Lynch was upended in the square and Joe McCarthy converted the resulting penalty. Half Time Score: Ballylongford 2-8 Finuge 0-1 Finuge now with the aid of the wind racked up three points without reply in the early exchanges and were closing the gap.Joe McCarthy lifted the siege in the 10th minute with a well taken point. While Finuge only managed a further point in the half they had a number of goal scoring opportunities but the Ballylongford defence held firm and now go forward to meet Beale in the final. Mobile: 086 3689061 | Email: osullivan_mairead@yahoo.com KIERAN CORRIDAN MEMORIAL INTERMEDIATE CUP Sponsored by South of Ireland Waste Disposal Final Replay: Clounmacon 0.10 v Ballydonoghue 0.08 Report by Maurice Mannix: Clounmacon won the Kieran Corridan Memorial Intermediate Cup, with a two point win victory over Ballydonoghue in O Rahilly Park Ballylongford on Sunday 11th January. It took a replay to separate these two sides and again in this replay there was very little between them. Ballydongohue were first to score with a point by Jack Foley, Chris Lyons with a free equalised for Clounmacon. Clounmacon were guilty of wasting no fewer that five scoring chances during the first quarter and Ballydongohue were much more economical taking the chances that came their way with points by Geroid Kissane and Padraig Lyons and Dermot O Connor. Cloumacon found their composure and went on a scoring spree with points from Seamie Twomey, Paudie Quinn and Chris Lyons. A free for Ballydonoghue by Padraig Lyons followed by two more points added to the scoreboard by Clounmacon’s Chris Lyons and Seamie Twomey gave Clounmacon a point lead at the half time whistle. Second half and again it was Man of the Match Clounmacons Chris Lyons who got the scoreboard working with a point. Jim Cremin kept Ballydongohue in touch with a good point from distance. Exchanges at this stage were tense all over the pitch with both sides trying to take control of the game. It was Clounmacon who found the resolve to push further ahead with points by Jack Twomey and Paudie Quinn. Ballydonoghue attacked in numbers but their only score was a point from a free by Padraig Lyons and Clounmacon were crowned Champions with a scoreline of Clounmacon 0.10 v Ballydonoghue 0.08. Man of the Match was sponsored by Tim Kennelly, Kennellys Bar and Garage Ballylongford which went to Chris Lyons Clounmacon.
