NEW RESEARCH OUTLINES THE IMPORTANCE OF PRINT MEDIA ADVERTISING…
A quarter of all sales delivered by media are driven by print advertising, according to new research. Two major studies by Independent News and Media also found that every €1 spent on print advertising returns up to €39 for the retail sector. The studies conducted with Amarach Research and Ignite Research, were based on more than 13,000 face-to-face consumer interviews and three years of data collected from around 20m data points. Their aim was to gauge the value of print to advertisers in light of the changing media landscape and new consumer habits. The research found that the print channel continues to be a pivotal element in the marketing mix, delivering a significant return on investment across all key sectors. Print advertising is up to 1.5 times more effective than radio advertising in delivering return on investment for the retail industry, the research found. It is up to twice as effective as television advertising in delivering return on investment for the motoring sector. Some 38% of test drives in the motoring industry are as a direct result of print advertising. For travel advertisers, it returns up to €35 for every €1 spent. Just over a fifth of all travel sales, and one in 10 visits to travel websites, are achieved through print advertising.
10
The research also gauged how much time consumers dedicate to reading INM newspapers - Sunday Independent, Irish Independent, Sunday World and Herald. At a launch event in Dublin last week, INM chief executive Robert Pitt told marketing executives that their clients need to have their brands advertised in print. "If you're not in print, and you're not in print with a strategy that goes across digital media as well, and other channels, you're letting your customer down", he said. Print advertising spending saw significant growth last year as the economy recovered, its first annual increase since 2007. Spending by advertising agencies rose 8% to €98.4, while the other €66.1m in revenues was generated from direct advertising such as property and recruitment. Spending on all types of advertising is expected to grow by a tenth this year as Ireland's economy expands at the fastest pace in Europe. It should be the first year of double-digit growth since the recession. Extract taken from the Irish Independent.

CLIMATE CHANGE COMMENTS ARE CONTRADICTED BY SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
To whet the appetite of the staff and students of St. Joseph's Secondary School, Ballybunion for 'Wellness Week' which will be running in the school next week from May 23rd-27th 2016, Mrs. Kelly organised that Elma Walsh, mother of the late inspirational teenager Donal Walsh R.I.P. , #Livelife, to speak to the students on Thursday May 19th. All staff and students present were deeply moved by the powerful messages Elma left with them. The School 5K run/walk on Tuesday next is a fundraiser for the very deserving organisation. Thank you to Mrs. Kelly for organising this event.

Deputy Brassil says Danny Healy Raes Climate Change comments are contradicted by scientific evidenceIn a recent statement in the Dail Deputy John Brassil refuted the comments of Deputy Danny Healy Rae stating “I only wish I could agree with even one of his sentiments on climate change but, unfortunately, I cannot. The evidence is irrefutable”. The Deputy acknowledged the challenges faced in order to reduce carbon emissions and stated that “we have a duty and obligation to take on climate change and accept our responsibility” but accepted that the “reality is that the economics of climate change are not attractive”. The Paris Agreement sets out a global action plan to put the world on track to avoid dangerous climate change by limiting global warming to well below 2°C. Ireland signed up to the agreement but has yet to ratify. Deputy Brassil made a case and point for progressing the LNG Gas project at Foynes as a viable low carbon option for energy provision. Deputy Brassil offered a number of achievable suggestions that could be put in place to begin reducing the carbon footprint and as a long supporter and advocate for the Shannon LNG project is prioritising it’s progression, a meeting of the LNG Steering Group will take place in Tarbert on Monday 2nd June, a number of Deputies and public representatives have agree to attend to work to bring Natural Gas and new employment into the County via Foynes.

LIMERICK PIPE ORGAN FESTIVAL The organizers of the above festival which includes Abbeyfeale church organist Riona Curtin have just been turned down for a grant by the Arts Council and are hoping to raise funds using the internet. The committee say “Crowdfunding is a method of fundraising over the internet; basically we ask people to pledge money in return for rewards and it is only if we reach our target that the money which has been pledged will be transferred from your account. The rewards start from as little as €10.00, but it is possible to pledge a smaller amount. Please follow this link to see if you like our rewards, we think that you will and that they’re rather enticing; you can secure your tickets for our upcoming events, submit a theme for improvisation or have one of us Play your Wedding! We’d be most grateful if you could do this, as the Festival really needs your help, especially if it is to be able to look towards the future beyond 2016. DUAGH/LYRE COMMUNITY GAMES Tag Rugby: Last Sunday at IT Tralee the County Community Games Tag rugby competition was held, the weather was a mixed bag of rain and sun but one thing for certain the games were very entertaining. As PRO this was my first time to the event along with many of our competitors and it was heart stopping and breath-taking to watch, it is definitely a game that everyone should try. Our U11 team were drawn in group one with Kenmare and Spa/Fenit/Barrow. Our first game was against Spa/Fenit/Barrow this was a great game with plenty of spirit, the final score was level on 6-6. If luck had gone our way we would have come out on top. Our next game was against last years champions Kenmare and we got off to a pretty good start, however at the end we lost 10-3 we could only have lost by five or less to go through but it wasnt our day. This team are young and I'm sure after the taste they got today they will definately be back next year. Team: Grace Morris, Tara Galvin, Aoibhinn Harte, Mike Galvin, Luke Sheridan, Jack Sheehy, Jack O Carroll, Jack Collins, Dylan and Ryan Stack, Oisin and Daibhead O'Regan. Thanks to Mark Bates for coaching and managing the team. the U14 Tag team got off to a great start, drawn in the group with Keel/Kiltalagh, Firies, Rock St/Caherslee and Ardfert/Kilmoyley. Duagh/Lyre won 8-2 to Keel/Kiltalagh and 8-7 to Firies. Next up were Rock St/Caherslee with Duagh/Lyre needing to win this game to go into the final, we were unlucky losing out 8-5 in a great game of tag. Through to the 3rd and 4th place play off we were drawn against Ardfert/Kilmoyley at half time 5-5 and into the second half it was score for score in the last play of the game we lost 10-9. Duagh/Lyre received the certificates. A great day was had by all players who gave a great display of the game. Team: Eli Fitzgerald, Dylan Breen, Evan Corridan, Oisin Moloney, Eoghan Shanahan, Jack Moloney, Seanan O Caoimh, Aoife Bates and Halle O Sullivan. Thanks to trainer and manager Phil Bates for giving up her time, they done really well and were a credit to us as a parish. KICK
Pictured with David (Classy) Fitzmaurice at his ? birthday a few years back were Kevin Woulfe and special guest Welsh Rugby legend Phil Bennett
By Paul Byrne The True Story of Kick Kennedy, JFK's Forgotten Sister and the Heir to Chatsworth The remarkable life of the vivacious, clever – and forgotten – Kennedy sister, who charmed the English aristocracy and was almost erased from her family history. Kick was Joe Kennedy’s favourite child and Jack’s favourite sister. Spirited, vivacious and quick-witted, her charm was legendary and with her jokes, effervescence and ease of manner she became a star amongst friends, family and the press. In this book, which is as lively and vivacious as its subject, best-selling author Paula Byrne uses recently released documents to tell for the first time this cinematic story of the meeting of American and British aristocracy – the Kennedys, the Devonshires, their friends such as the Churchills, Astors and Mitfords, the social whirl of pre-War life, Kick’s work for the Red Cross and as a journalist – and the religious tension that arose from her marriage to Billy. She kicked against family, faith and country. She was a rebel to the end – which came all too soon, when she was just 28. This wonderful book restores her story at last with all its energy, wit and tragedy.

LISTOWEL EMMETS LADIES
Under 16s continue to train Tuesday or thursday evening in cows lawn all new players welcome. Next game is away to legion on Monday 23rd in county league. Our U14 division one team travelled to Cromane on Sunday May 15th for round 6 of the county league in what proved to be a fruitful journey. This was a cracking game of football with the home side hoping to finish their home campaign on a high. The first half was end to end with the Emmets girls showing great determination going in 4 points to the good at half time. The second half was equally tough but Listowel were more than equal to the task and in the end ran out 9 point winners. Well done to the girls.
Our U14 division 4 team hosted table toppers Crokes the same day. After yet another slow start which saw them 9 points down at one stage, they fought back to close the gap to 4 at half time. The second half was a tougher affair for the home side with the visitors kicking some great points from distance and eventually running out 10 point winners. The Emmets girls never gave up and put in a great performance against the team who look destined to win the division.

It came down to the wire when Beale played Asdee in the quarter final of the Junior Club Championship on Saturday evening in Asdee. Our opponents put it up to us and were intent on repeating their victory of last year. The game was level on no fewer than eight occasions and we were fortunate to pull away in the end to secure a two-point victory. From the throw-in it was tit for tat and Asdee settled into the game while we found it difficult to get into stride, as the teams exchanged scores. The bare minimum separated the sides at the interval as we went in with our noses in front, 1-5 to 1-4. Our second goal should have set us up for victory but Asdee cancelled out the score with four answered points from play. With the clock ticking, it looked like extra time was on the cards but we edged ahead and our defence stood firm as we eked out a two-point victory, 2-12 to 1-13. Beale team: Dermot Cummins, Killian Walsh-O’Boyle, Colm Kissane, Johnny O’Sullivan, Shane Joy, Paul Collins, Philly Blake, Jeremy King, Dan Ellis, Ian Mannix, James McMahon, Ger O’Gorman, Darragh Buckley, Barry O’Mahony and Tom Joy. Substitutes: Neilus Mulvihill for Tom Joy (inj.), Jamie Culloty for Barry O’Mahony, Rory Mulvihill for Shane Joy, Ian Blake for Ian Mannix (black card). We are now through to the semi-final stages. Prior to the game, a minute’s silence was observed for Joe McDonagh, former President of the GAA. Beale Juniors lost out the semi-final of the North Kerry League, Division 4, to Desmonds by 1-14 to 1-8. Beale juniors lost out to Ardfert in the first round of Group 6 of the County Junior League (13-a-side), on Friday. We travel to play Charlie Kerins next Friday and then host Moyvane in Ballybunion on June 3rd. Our last game will be on June 17th when we host Tarbert. We await details of the refixture of our Senior County League, Division 3, game against Ardfert. Three further rounds of the league will be decided in June. We play Tarbert in Ballybunion at the beginning of June; on June 12th, we play Ballydonoghue and on 19th we host Gneeveguilla in Ballybunion. Beale play Ballydonoghue in the semi-final of the North Kerry League, Division 1 in Ballylongford. Date to be confirmed. Beale GAA host our annual Golf Classic in Ballybunion Golf Club on Friday, June 3rd. Teams of 4 welcome to enter by contacting John Hennessy @ 087 9237368. Special thanks to Ballybunion Golf club for making this date and superb venue available to us. To the teams and sponsors who have support-
ed us over the years, we look forward to your continued support this year. Without your support, the Golf Classic would not be such a great success. New teams very welcome! COUNTY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP: Asdee 1-13 -v- Beale 2-12 Prior to the game getting underway there was a minutes silence observed for the late Joe McDonagh, former President of Cumann Luthchleas Gael. Watched by a good sized attendance on Saturday evening last at Walsh Park

the clash of the neighbouring clubs Asdee and Beale who contested the Quarter final of the County Junior Championship and after a pulsating contest it was the Seasiders who scrope through in the end by a 2 point margin. Certainly Asdee put it up to their more illustrious opponents in a game that went right down to the wire, level on no fewer than eight occasions and in fairness looked for a while that extra time would be needed to separate these two very committed outfits. However with the sides level for the final time with 8 minutes left for play it was the visitors who added the necessary points in the final minutes to oust a gallant Asdee side. Straight from the throw-in and all the way through it was nip and tuck and played in real championship fervour with no quarter asked or given. The action got underway inside the opening minute through John Doran splitting the posts and a silly foul at the other end led to Ger O Gorman levelling up the tie in the second minute. This was to be the trend for the remainder of the game. The home side pulled away with Mike Breen (f) and a superb Eoin Tydings point but this was quickly cancelled out with further points from Ger O Gorman and the outstanding James McMahon and after 14mts it was level pegging at 3pts all. Then came the first goal of the game when Tom Joy received a long delivery from Jeremy King and he left the Asdee defence in his wake finishing in style to the net a minute later. A magnificent run upfield by Kieran Kelly brought a brilliant save from Beale keeper Dermot Cummins before Eoin Kennedy kicked a massive free 30 meters out on the sideline followed by a goal that saw Paul O Carrolls effort come off the upright and and into the grateful arms of Mike Breen who crashed to the net as the home side went ahead in the 22nd minute; 1-4 to 1-3. Both sides kicked wides as Ger O Gorman and James McMahon kicked points to put Beale ahead at the break; 1-5 to 1-4. Inside a minute on resumption Mike Breen had the sides level. After 8mts it was still all square with Ian Mannix and John Doran exchanging points. Then Philly Blake made a great run through the middle of the field and Jeremy King finished to the net to put a little daylight between the sides. By the 14th minute Asdee had once again taken the lead as Kieran Kelly, Mike Breen, Eoin Kennedy and Darragh Keane lofted over points. Darragh Buckley and Darragh Keane cancelled each other out with further points and as we reached the 16th minute it was the home side who shaded the issue by a single point; 1-11 to 2-7. Con Carmody the Asdee corner back received a black card for a robust foul on Darragh Buckley and Ger O Gorman duly obliged from the free to level up the game again. Eoin Kennedy and a super run by Johnny O Sullivan the Beale corner back added points with just under 8 minutes left for play. Now the game which looked like going either way and maybe a draw was on the cards as both sets of players battled for possession; however it was Beale that made the breakthrough and points by Jeremy King and Darragh Buckley gave their side a 2pt lead as the clock hit 27 minutes. Still Asdee showed their great battling qualities and Eoin Tydings cut the gap to the minimum a minute later. The home side did have a further opportunity to level up again but a stubborn Seaside defence held firm and an Ian Mannix injury time point gave them the cushion they needed to go through to the semi final stages of the competition. Credit both teams who really gave the rival fans plenty to cheer about throughout a magnificent contest. The best of luck to Beale for the remainder of the competition.

A further exchange of points by Robbie Foley and Finuges Darragh Mackessy left the half time score Ballydonoghue 0. 08 Finuge 0. 02. The first half as already stated was dominated by Ballydonoghues Jack Kennelly it was now the turn of Darragh Mackessy for Finuge to put his stamp on the game with the first two points of the second half. Again Ballydonoghue replied with points from Brendan oNeill and two again by Jack Kennelly. In case anybody thought this was a killer reply by Ballydonoghue it certainly was not. Finuge then showed great character when Daniel Walsh with a point quickly followed by a goal from sub Jacob Lucey gave Finuge fresh hope but again Ballydonoghue struck for a point by Brendan oNeill. Then Darragh Mackessy added two points from play and he followed that with a precision pass for Jacob Lucey who hit the net. This was added to by further points by Rory McAuliffe (2) Daire Shannon and again two more points by Darragh Mcckessy.Again in another twist to this game Ballydonoghue sub Joey Keane found the net to set up an exciting end. Finuge bounced back with a point each by Jacob Lucey, Rory MacAulliffe,Darragh Mackessy and Aodhan Shanahan. Then Jack Kennelly added a point for Ballydonoghue who in the next attack won a penalty for a leg block,Finuges goalkeeper Gavin Leen made a great save (his second great save in the game). The whistle blew to leave the final score Finuge 2. 14 Ballydonoghue 1. 13. Finuge capt. was Daire Shannon and the man of the match was Darragh Mackessy. Referee was Tomas o Rourke Ballyduff MEETING The Fixtures Meeting will be held on Tuesday 7th June @ 7.30pm, this meeting will deal with fixtures only, all proposals must be with the North Kerry Football Board no later than Thursday 2nd June @ 2pm this will include Leagues for 2017 and Championships 2016.
