GRADUATION TIME AT ST. JOSEPH’S
The Leaving Cert Class of 2016 in St.Joseph's Sec. School, Ballybunion graduated from the school on Thursday night last May 26th. A lot of work went into the preparation for this event which was very evident on the night. The night commenced in the school where the students assembled for their group photo with the school Principal Mr. O'Donovan and Year head Mr. Dalton. It was especially nice for this group as for all the school community that Mr. O'Donovan returned to school on the day,after an absence due to illness. They then had a very nice Mass under the guidance of Miss Stenson and the choir guided by Mrs. Lynch. Students were presented with their certs and awards and some presentations were made with some very inspirational words spoken. They then, thanks to the Parent's Council retired to the canteen for some light refreshments and where senior student of the year, Isla O'Connor cut their graduation cake. Miss Costello had prepared a photo display of many memories. We wish to acknowledge the help and assistance of all those staff, students and parents who made the night so special for the group. Wishing the leaving cert class of 2016 the very best in their upcoming exams and in their future lives ahead.
The Transition Year Class of 2016 celebrated their graduation on Friday night last May 27th. Their tutors and parents were present to share this occasion with them. Mr.O'Donovan opened proceedings with a very complimentary speech about the group and their TY teachers. Mr. Daly conducted the ceremony with the help of Miss M Mulvihill, Miss Costello and Miss Kelly. They recalled their achievements and activities to date and were all presented with their various certificates, Gaisce awards, among many. The Bunyans presented the Michael Bunyan enterprise shield to those enterprising 'Rip Bar' creators. The student of the year was named to the utter surprise of the recipient, Sarah Jane Carmody who with the support of her group cut their artistic graduation cake. Congratulations to all the group and to their parents and family. Thanks also to the Parent's Council who were represented and the staff who attended the night or were unavoidably missing. Wishing the group a safe trip to Italy as they depart on Monday next May 30th. The group are pictured below.

Another free from Langan reduced the deficit the one with both sides missing goal opportunities. Listry went two up but another excellent fifty from Shane O’Connor left one between them entering the final minutes. Listry broke down a good Tarbert attach and scored an excellent point to put them two up, three points in injury time ensured victory for the home side. Tarbert who were short some key players did put up a good performance but Listry deserved their win. Team Jamie Diggins, Danny Wren, Shane Enright, Sean Carrig, Noel Kennedy, Ian Flavin, Ambrose Lanigan, Donal Leahy, Kevin Enright, Shane O’Connor, Jason Wren, Mark Buckley, Finbarr Carrig, Killian Langan, Andrew Doherty, Gavin Breen, Sean Holly, Daniel O’Connor, Pa Hanlon, Patrick Healy, Jack Healy. Next up now for Tarbert is a critical county league game against Beale in Ballybunion this Saturday evening. Coiste na nOg : Tarbert U-12 team had an exciting win over Currow last Sunday evening Shannon Park. Down four points entering the final ten minutes Tarbert scored 1-5 to win on a scoreline of 4-14 to 4-10. Next up for the team is an away game to Finuge next Sunday evening. Well done to all the U8 and U10 players who took part in the well organized Blitz held recently, training for these teams continues every Thursday and Friday evenings. Feile Field Day : Tarbert welcome the Enniskillen Gael U-14 team as part of the National Feile being held in Kerry the weekend of the 24th June. DEATHS Earlier this month we lost one of our oldest and brightest citizens, Birdie May Beaton (nee Walsh) of Ahalahana. Predeceased by her husband Jimmy, the well known Scotsman, Birdie May had an interest in absolutely everything. She was a great reader, a lifelong member of Fianna Fail and her interest and knowledge of politics was incredible. Even though she was a Fianna Fail supporter she could be as critical of the party as anyone. She didn't view things with one eye shut. She is survived by a family who positively adored her. Sympathy to Margaret, Eilish, Hamish, Mary, Líam, Barbara, and Jane, her sister Sinead, brothers James & Billy, grandchildren and extended family. Requiem Mass for Birdie May was held in The Church of the Assumption, Moyvane with burial in Ahavoher Cemetery, Moyvane. A few days later Jimmy Fitzgerald lost his life in a house fire. He was born and reared next door to Birdie May but had lived in the village for a number of years. The whole parish was shocked at his death because Jimmy was very well known. He had lived and worked in Manchester for all his working life and was the ultimate Manchester United supporter. It was uncanny that on the day of his removal Man U won the FA Cup. Jimmy's funeral Mass was held in The Church of the Assumption, Moyvane with burial in Ahavoher Cemetery, Sympathy is also extended to the relatives of the following Paul Dalton, Templeathea. Tom Greaney, Knocknagoshel. Tom Liston, Lower Athea. Jerry Murphy, Clieveragh, Listowel. May they all rest in peace. DUAGH GRAVEYARD COMMITTEE Thanks to all those who turned out for our latest cutting on Thursday night. It was a long night as there was a lot of work to be done, our volunteers were depleted for various reasons and the midges were at full throttle for the night. With 2 months to go to our annual Mass, there is an awful lot of work to be done. To maintain the standard of the cemetery, we require extra assistance. While a lot of the focus is on cutting and collecting the grass on Thursday night, we need people to pull or hoe weeds from the paths and plots , to collect litter and to tidy the plots of long forgotten wreaths and bottles of Holy Water. It is not strenuous work and is done in a very sociable setting. Our next cutting is scheduled for Thursday June 9th. If you have an hour or so to spare, please come and join us. Every extra set of hands means that more can be achieved and the high standards of the cemetery can be maintained. DUAGH COISTE NA NOG FUNDRAISER Something new coming to Duagh. Results - Kerry Premier Junior Championship Firies 0-11 Listowel Emmets 0-12 Our seniors came through a serious battle with a tenacious Firies side on Saturday evening last. After a shaky start, Emmets found themselves 3 points to no score down before Cormac Mulvihill fired over a well worked opener and thus began a flurry of Listowel scores. David Sheehy who was showing well led the way followed a Conor Cox placed ball. The away side were working hard now and were getting on top all over the field with Niall Collins and Brendan Guiney winning some great 50-50 balls. With 20 minutes on the clock came the score of the evening. Denis Walsh picked up the ball on the 40 and took off on a great solo run, selling 2 dummies before splitting the posts to the delight of the large Listowel crowd in attendance. Four more unanswered points followed from the boots of Sheehy, Collins, Mulvihill and Cox to leave Listowel in front by 5 before Firies centre back Jack Sherwood put over a great score off his left way out near the sideline to leave the scores at 0-04 to 0-08 at the break. Conor Cox's free 1 minute into the second half stretched the Emmets lead to 5 however this is where the fun ended for Listowel as the home side knuckled down and really took the game to the visitors. Firies no.14 and captain of the side, Colm O'Shea was getting on the end of some great ball and helped himself to 4 points in the space of 10 minutes, 2 of which were placed ball efforts. Corner back Pat Brown also got in on the action and by the time there was 15 minutes gone the sides were level. From here on in it really was nip and tuck. Conor Cox sent over his fourth point of the evening before David Sheehy put Emmets 2 up with 7 minutes to go. Both sides were really going for it now and both defences were under serious pressure at times and when Padraig de Bruin put over a huge score for Firies a grandstand finish was on the cards. After some great work by Tom McCarthy and Shane Quinn, Niall Collins found himself at the opposite end of the field and fired over a super score off the outside of his boot to put 2 between the sides with a minute to go. The referee signalled 5 minutes of injury time and the Emmets supporters started to sweat. Firies attacked and attacked and managed to put the minimum between the sides through wing forward Mike Daly but this was where their challenge ended. This was a great battle between 2 resilient sides and there is no doubt it will stand to Listowel as they march forward into the semi finals. Emmets: K Hughes, D Broderick, J McGuire, J Moriarty, T Melvin, B Guiney, N Collins 0-02, T McCarthy, M Lynch, D Leahy, C Mulvihill 0-02, D Sheehy 0-03, C Cox (Captain) 0-04, B Sweeney, D Walsh 0-01 Subs used: D Hughes, Noel Kennelly, John Heaphy, Shane Quinn Fixtures: County Junior League Rnd 3 Emmets V Milltown/Castlemaine in Frank Sheehy Park Friday, June 3rd at 7.00pm

ASDEE GAA
UNDERAGE. Asdee/Bally had two games over the past weekend in the Lee Strand County Football Under 12 League Division 8 and even though defeat was their lot this limited panel of players performed admirably on both occasions against strong opposition and can only get better as time moves on. Out also were the Under 10s in O Sullivan Park, Finuge. Asdee/Ballylongford 5-8 -v- Kilcummin 5-11. Played at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford this was probably the best display of their Under 12 campaign to date playing some lovely football and were unlucky on this occasion not to finish in front. At the break it was the visitors who led 4-9 to 3-4 but during a most exciting second half it was end to end with the home team outscoring their opponents by 2-4 to 1-2. Still that little bit of strength by Kilcummin was to be the crucial to the end result. I suppose one of the highlights of the game was the celebration by Alex Campos, after each of his two goal salvo; (Robby Keane eat your heart out). Scorers; Bobby McCarron, 2-2, Alex Campus, 2gls, Niall O Connor, 1-2, Liam Connolly, 2pts, Patrick Mulvihill and Oisin Healy, 1pt each. Asdee/Bally 2-7 John Mitchels 5-19. An Asdee/Bally side went under to the Tralee side at their home ground at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford in a one sided encounter. It was evident early in the opening half that it was going to be an uphill battle against a side that looked always having too much for the combinations side even though in fairness to the combination side;
Kieran Mackessy, Daragh Healy & Dylan Carroll after winning 3 medals each at the HWA RANG Cup taekwondo tournament in Lixnaw on Sunday 29th May
40
although outplayed they never threw in the towel . At the break the scoreline stood at Asdee/Bally 1-4 John Mitchels 2-12. On resumption it was Mitchels who completely took over and ran out convincing winners at the final whistle. Scorers; Bobby McCarron, 1-2, Patrick Mulvihill, 1-1, Sean O Connor, 3pts, Cillian Kennelly, 1pt.
The panel over both games consisted of : Niall O'Connor, Jack Hannon, Cillian Kennelly, Oisin Healy, Patrick Mulvihill, Darragh Healy, Pauric Fogarty, Sean O'Connor, Alex Campos Bobby McCarron Oran O'Neill, Cillian Kennelly, Liam Connolly, Michael Hannon SHANNON RANGERS. Shannon Rangers Under 14 footballers had mixed fortunes over the past week; in the Lee Strand Under 14 County District Football Championship,(Plate) defeating Castleisland District in the quarter final; however St. Brendans, Ardfert were to prove a step too far in the semi final. Well done to all and especially all players from the local Asdee/Bally club.

NORTH KERRY JUNIOR LEAGUE Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Listowel Division 5 Final: Brosna 2.09 v Knockanure.0.12 Report by Maurice Mannix - Brosna started the brighter getting on the scoreboard in the first minute with a point by centre forward Kieran O’Donnell. The same player added another point with a free in the fourth minute. Knockanure replied immediately with a point from a free by midfielder Myles Kearney. Brosna kept on the attack and were rewarded with two further points again from centre forward Kieran O’Donnell. Midway through the first half Knockanure added their second point by Gerry Clancy. Again the response by Brosna was swift when they added further points from Seamus McAuliffe,Kieran oDonnell and full forward Mike Sullivan.Knockanure showed great character by battling back into the game when Niall Mulvihill and Donnacha Moloney added further points Eamon Prendeville added another point for Brosna in the 25th minute but again Kockanure hit back prior to half time with points by Fionn Kissane and David Moloney both from frees as Knockanure attacked in numbers to leave the half time score Brosna 0. 08 Knockanure 0. 06 Knockanure continued on from their good first half finish with a point in the first minute by Aidan Enright.A free converted by Kieran oDonnell in the second minute was Brosnas response, again the same player who had a big influence in the game hit the net for the first goal of the game in the third minute.If anybody thought that was the end of the Kockanure challenge they were wrong as Knockanure showed what they were capable of when they then took control of the game. Dominating in the middle third of the field at this stage it was Kockanure who added points by Cathal oConnor, Shane Sheahan, Niall Mulvihill and centre forward David Moloney. At this stage Moloney was causing Brosna bother as he got on the ball instigating numerous attacks. Niall Mulvihill levelled the game with a point in the 24th minute. This insured the remainder of the game ended with hearts in the mouth. A high ball from play dropped into the Knockanure square caused confusion and Seamus McAulliffe for Brosna pounced to hit the net with two minutes left. As already stated Knockanure showed their mettle and attacked winning a free about thirty yards from the Brosna goal. The ball drifted into the square and bounced to the net among a number of bodies but unfortunately for a gallant Knockanure side ref Pat Sheehy disallowed it as Knockanure had players in the square from a free which meant Brosna held out to win on a scoreline of 2. 09 to 0. 12 and capture the Division 5 league title. Captain of the Brosna team Tomas Pre ndeville was presented with the cup by assistant North Kerry board secretary Maurice Mannix.Thanks to Knocknagoshel for the use of Walsh Park for this final Division 1 Relegation Game: St. Senans 4.10 -v- Moyvane 3-10 Senans now play Finuge to see who will be relegated to division 2 for 2017 Division 3 Semi Final: Clounmacon 5.08v Moyvane B 1.16 Division 2 Back Game - Friday 1st July @ 8pm Venue: O Rahilly Park Ballylongford.
