NEW MARITIME CENTRE OPENING IN FENIT

Brian O’Sullivan of O’Sullivan’s Marine, launches Tralee Bay Maritime Centre this week in the former Tralee Bay Sailing School premises in Fenit. Brian plans to fully utilise this fantastic facility and will run it on a private, commercial basis. He has over 36 years’ experience in the maritime sector including the running of O’Sullivan’s Marine boat sales, boat building, boat repairs, engine maintenance, in store and on-line chandlery shop (www.osm.ie) and boat surveying. On a personal level he has a love for all water based activities, especially keelboat racing and is often frustrated that there isn’t easier access to the water in Ireland, an Island nation. He said “I am adamant that water activities and courses for all ages (7+) will be more accessible to everyone. You do not need to be a member of a club or have deep pockets to try a new water-sport or get on the water”.

IMAGINE LIGHTS UP KERRY`S BROADBAND BLACK SPOTS

Homes and businesses across Kerry’s broadband black spots will no longer have to wait for High Speed Broadband. Following the announcement by Imagine, in the coming weeks, the first 110 town lands in the county, that have been waiting for high speed broadband, will be connected to Imagine’s New National LTE Fibre Network. Up to now getting high speed broadband, using the existing phone lines to connect to fibre, was dependent on the planned upgrade of the eir network and local exchange to fibre. But even then this is limited to homes and business close to the network or the local exchange. In regional and rural areas this has left thousands of homes and businesses unsure when and if they will be able to get connected. These homes can now check the initial coverage at imagine.ie. Instead of having to use the copper network to connect homes to fibre enabled exchanges Imagine are using the very latest next generation wireless technology “Advanced LTE” to connect homes and businesses directly to the nearest fibre point on their network. This means that the service is not limited to areas close to an exchange and can be provided to anyone within a coverage area of up to 13Km. What can you expect? While the minimum speed that Imagine will connect you at is 30MB and depending on your location can be up to 100MB existing LTE customers in Kildare and Cork where the service was deployed in the last few months are getting on average 65Mb download and 6MB upload. To ensure that every customer gets the service they expect each area is connected on a phased basis with the number of users restricted to 400 homes in each phase. So if you need or want high speed broadband you need to register your interest. Speaking of the announcement Brian O'Donohoe, Commercial Director of Imagine said “LTE is a game changer in delivering high speed broadband service to Regional and Rural Ireland. In Australia, Germany, France, China and Japan LTE is used as an alternative or to replace existing copper lines to deliver NGA broadband services and is the quickest and most efficient way to meet the demand and need in Rural and Regional Ireland.” The feedback from our prelaunch in Kildare and Cork is that this is life changing for families, businesses and rural communities. We are excited about bringing these benefits to rural communities in Kerry.” In addition to Kerry, Imagines LTE Network will be going live in areas in Galway, Wexford, Limerick and further areas in Cork and Kildare this month. What can you do to get Imagine in your area! Whether as an individual, a business or community Imagine are inviting anyone who lives in a broadband black spot to register their interest in getting the service to their area today. To ensure that your area is prioritised you and your neighbours can register on imagine.ie. Initial Kerry town lands being covered: Lixnaw, Ballyduff, Ballybunion,Six Crosses, Causeway, Abbeydorney, Clahane Cross, Coolruane, Cunnigare, Ballinageragh, Clandouglas, Greenville, Listowel, Ballincloher North, Ballincloher South, Garrybawn and more. COISTE NA NOG Ballyduff Coiste na nOg would like to extend sympathy to Tim Segal & family, Addergown on the death of Dan Segal(Tim's father) in St. Louis,

USA. It was another busy week in the sports field. The U6's, U8's and U10's continue their training regime in both hurling & football. The U10's head to Coolard on this Wednesday June 8th for a football blitz and all players are to be present at 6.40pm

The u11 hurlers captained by Ryan Whelan had a great win over Lixnaw on Friday night last to emerge as joint winners of Division 1. This young group of players have performed well all year and there are big things in store for this team. Congratulations to the players & mentors. The u12 hurlers were out in Ballyheigue on Saturday morning last for a blitz which was played in perfect conditions. Our boys lost their first game to Atdfert however they went on to win against Ballyheigue and Crotta. It was a great achievement considering some of the boys were on their school tour on Friday while others had played & trained with other age groups on Friday evening.

The u12 footballers were away to Ballyheigue on Sunday evening . The u12's were unlucky to concede two late goals which saw them lose 5 15 to 4 - 10. It wasn't all doom & gloom as the Colts managed to secure a win against a second Ballyheigue team. Tuesday May 31st saw the start of the u13 hurling tournament. The hurlers onc again travelled not take on Ballyheigue. It was a tightly contested game with the visitors eventually pulling away to win on a score line of 2 - 5 to 1 - 3. The u14 hurlers continue their training schedule in preparation for Feile which takes place in two weeks . The Ballyduff boys will be based in Cappawhite, Tipperary

Finally fundraising continues in the effort to complete the new ball wall development at the sportsfield and support is still needed. Please visit the website www.ballyduffballwall.com if you are interested in helping out. You can donate directly on the website or you can contact the fundraising committee through Noel Browne (085)7805495, Mary Joe O'Connor (086)0651451 or Charlie Farrell (087)2835819. Also we have received the first shipment of the widely anticipated Ballyduff gear with the remainder scheduled to arrive before the weekend. The gear will be distributed during the week. Some gear will be available to purchase next week at the Horse Fair as the Ball Wall committee will have a stand.

BALLYLONGFORD BEREVEMENT The past week has once again been a very sad week for the local Community and one cannot put into words the despair and shock that has befallen the entire community and indeed neighbouring communities since learning of the passing of the late Micheál Deegan R.I.P. on Tuesday 31st May last. Mike as he was more affectionately known to most, was a tower of strength to both his family and community, but unfortunately his life has ended far, far too soon and which has left his family and community devastated. Mike had started out in life by attending the local primary school, continuing on to the Vocational School in Listowel before taking up an apprenticeship and qualifying as baker under the watchful eye of the late Hughie MacEntee and Eddie Hanrahan at Hanrahan’s Bakery in Ballylongford. He also helped with the deliveries to shops, which was to pave the way in his future livelihood. By the mid to late 70’s North Kerry and West Limerick saw a big upswing in the employment sector and with the arrival of the American Company Klopman Mills to Tralee, which would later to be known as Burlington’s, Mike like so many other people became part of the 1,250 strong workforce at the companies premises in Clash, where he worked for the greatest part of a decade making numerous friends during that period. Mike began his own successful business where he supplied various confectionary items to shops all over Kerry, West Limerick, North Cork and Clare this he worked hard at right up to his unfortunate passing. But life was not all about work, he liked to engage in so many leisurely activities, all of which were again outdoor activities his love of walking, cycling, boating or out for a spin in his motorbike were activities that he loved greatly. Work and recreation aside his biggest love of all was his family and he delighted and was very proud of all his family, having met the love of his life Anna (Carmody) from Skehenerin they married and settled close to his parents in Carrigafoyle the arrival of two daughters Kerri and Orla made the complete happy family and it is to Micheál’s family that we now extend our deepest sympathies to his heartbroken wife Anna, daughters Orla and Kerri, mother Bridget, brothers Joe and Patrick, sisters Maura and Catherine, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces extended family relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends . Micheál lay in repose at the family home in Rusheen on Thursday and Friday last before arriving at St Michael of the Archangel Church Ballylongford on Saturday morning last for 11am requiem mass. Interment took place afterwards at Aghavallin Cemetry Rusheen. Ar dheis dea go raibh a ainm dilis. Sympathy is also extended to the relatives and friends of the late Johnny Carr R.I.P. of Asdee East who died on Friday 3rd June last. Johnny’s remains laid in repose at Lynch’s Funeral home on Bank Holiday Monday last before removal to St Mary’s Church Asdee. Requiem mass was on yesterday Tuesday at 11am with burial afterwards in Lislaughtin Abbey. May he Rest in Peace.

Auditors, Newcastle West, read the financial report. Over the past few years a lot of work has been done to the hall. A new kitchen with supplies has been put in, new lights were put up in the sports hall, new blinds were fitted to the windows and a water harvester was put outside. Recently the toilets all had new wash-hand basins, toilets, and new tiles and were all newly painted, indeed giving the hall a new face-look. We are grateful for everyone’s help in getting rid of the debt over the years, however fundraising etc must be ongoing as the halls have to be kept in tip top shape. Contesting the final were Ballyheigue & Duagh/Lyre and they served up a thrilling encounter. Midway through the first half Ballyheigue made the breakthrough after a brilliant save by Katie Murphy, the ball broke to Ballyheigue player to side foot home. Duagh/Lyre defence stood firm with Aoife Bates and Tara Galvin playing with no little skill to drive the team forward and in the space of 2 minutes had taken the lead with Halle O'Sullivan volleying home from a Grace Morris line ball. Grace then hitting a brilliant right foot shot to put them in the lead. The 2nd half was close and exciting with Lily Daly and Rosin Maher playing their part. With only three minutes left Ballyheigue made the breakthrough to equalise and send the game to extra time , with just 30 seconds left Ballyheigue scored the goal to claim the title, the gold medals thus Duagh/Lyre girls getting the silver medals. This game could have gone either way, this will be a great learning experience for this bunch as all but one are under age for next couple of years. Team: Katie Murphy, Aoife Bates, Tara Galvin, Grace Morris, Halle O'Sullivan, Roisin Maher and Lily Daly. County Community Games Athletics. Last training session takes place at Duagh GAA on Wed evening 6-7pm. The County Athletics takes place Sat & Sun at An Riocht, Castleisland and we wish everyone the very best of luck. U10 Community Games Gaelic Football: Duagh /Lyre u10 football team competed in Connolly Park Tralee on bank holiday Monday in Kerry Community Games County competition. The 1st game was up against An Gaelteacht where they put in a great display before going down by 3-5 to 2-2. The 2nd game they were up against Rathmore/Gneeveguilla and here the boys played to a very high level. The lead changed hands on numerous occasions, at the final whistle had just lost out by 1pt 2-6 to 3-2. An Gaelteacht went on to win the bronze medals after being defeated by Listowel in the semi final. Listowel went on to clinch the title with victory over Ardfert/Kilmoyley. So well done again boys for participating and doing Duagh/Lyre area proud. Team Jack O' Carroll, Jack Collins , Oisin O' Regan, Jake Heffernan, Luke Sheridan, Dylan Stack, Ryan Stack, Joe O'Connell, Timmy O'Connell, Joseph Maher, Gavin Dillon, Denis Gould, Dylan Buckley, Oran Doorley. Trainers: Gretta Maher, John O'Carroll and Liam Dillon. DUAGH GRAVEYARD COMMITTEE The next cutting of the graveyard will be on Thursday 9th June from 5.30pm onwards. We were a bit depleted at the last cutting for various reasons. The first three people to turn up on that occasion have a combined age of 243 years. It is a tremendous commitment from those people but it is unfair to be relying on them all the time. We urgently need new volunteers to give us a help over the course of the summer. Even if you can only come for one night, it would be a help. Many hands make light work so if you have an hour to spare on the night, please feel free to call down and give a hand. MOBILE LIBRARY Will be at Duagh national school from 9.45 to 10.15 am and from 10.15-10.45 at the Family Resource Centre on Wednesday 22nd of June. It will be in Lyreacrompane on the following days to above at Lyreacrompane Resource Centre from 3.15 – 3.45p.m.

Will You Be My Friend? brings together over 100 of Gabriel Fitzmaurice s best-loved poems chosen from his thirteen collections for children together with nearly thirty new poems. Enjoyed by both the young and the young at heart, the poems range from the silly to the serious, from the sad to the happy, from the naughty to the nice. Childhood, family, school, animals, the seasons and festivals of the year are all seen through the eyes of a child.

It was a good performance from the lads who are steadily improving with each outing.

Fixtures: County Senior Football League - Div 2 Beaufort V Emmets Date: Saturday, June 11th - Venue: Beaufort - Time: 7pm Our seniors resume their County League campaign away to Beaufort this coming Saturday evening. Please come along and show your support for the team.

Coiste na nÓg Well done to our under 12s who are playing magnificent football in Division 2A and 2B of the county league. They are away to Kenmare next Sunday at 6pm in their last game on phase 2 of the county league. The future certainly looks bright for this group of players. There was great fun and excitement in Frank Sheehy Park on Friday last as the 13th Annual John B Keane League finals took place. A huge thank you to Billy Keane and the Keane family for their kind and generous support of our league. The junior John B Keane also was completed for our under 8 teams and they thoroughly enjoyed their games. The A final was won by the Boro as Caitlin Shine & Patrick Walsh led their side to victory over Aaron Carey and Ava McEligott's Ashes team it was a great game but strong performance from man of match Patrick Walsh ensured victory. The B final was won by The Rural Rangers skippered by Kayleigh Sheehy and Aaron Kennelly this was a tight and tenacious battle with Lee Dalton and Kiara Keane's An Ghleann team with the bare minimum separating teams at the final whistle. Finally well done to all the referees who helped out over the last few weeks and to Mike Kennelly for co ordinating the u10 teams and to Brian Scanlan for looking after the U8s. We're all looking forward to next year already!!

Well done to our under 8s and 10s who took part in the north Kerry Blitzes for u8/10 on the last two Wednesday nights. With over 200 kids taking part, great fun was had and new friends were made all while improving their Gaa skills. We played Ballyduff, Ballydonoghue and Knocknagoshel in highly entertaining games and each player left the pitch with a smile on their faces after each game. Thanks to all players, parents and supporters. Each player was very appreciative of all the fruit and water sponsored on both nights by H2 Group Spar Market St Listowel and a huge thanks to Sean Heaphy and the H2 group. Well done to our under 15s who have progressed to the Munster U 15 Super 10 Finals which take place on Saturday 11th June in Cork Institute of Technology at 2pm. The boys are in group 3 where they will play Douglas and Carberry Rovers.

LISTOWEL EMMETS LADIES

Our U14 Div 4 team travelled to Dingle on a beautiful evening on Thursday, June 2nd to play the final round of the county league. The Emmets girls were looking to finish the campaign on a high and set about this task in determined fashion by not giving an inch in the first half when playing into a very strong wind. In fact the Listowel girls were dominant in all quarters and had built up a 2-2 to no score lead by half time. The second half continued in the same vein with Emmets eventually running out winners on a scoreline of 4-8 to 1-1. This was a fantastic finish to a great county campaign by this team who are all U14 again next year, so much to look forward to. Finally, a big thank you to Dingle who provided much needed and appreciated refreshments after the game.

Our U14 Div 1 team played the final round of the county league on Sunday June 5th in Listowel against Rathmore. The visiting team which boasts numerous county players was put under pressure by Emmets from the start with the game being very even for the first 20 minutes and tied on the scoreboard. Injuries to several Emmets players before half time didn't help as Rathmore found their stride and opened up a 5 point lead at the break. Emmets got off to a fine start in the second half with 2 quick points, but after the visitors scored another goal in response, it proved to be too large a gap to breach and the visitors ran out comfortable winners. Well done to the team on a fine campaign and we now look forward to a successful Feile competition in late June and North Kerry league in August.

Beale GAA & Ballybunion Community Centre would like to thank everyone for their continued support in buying our weekly lotto tickets. Beale seniors secured the points against Tarbert in the County League, Division 3, in sun-drenched Ballybunion on Saturday evening. Tarbert, with the aid of the breeze opened the scoring and while we raised the green flag early in the game, we did not score our first point until the twenty seventh minute. We had some good passages of play but tended to be wasteful upfront and went into the interval with our noses barely in front, 1-2 to 0-3.

On the changeover, we never looked in danger and with two further goals it was game over. Final score: Beale 4-7, Tarbert 0-9. Beale lined out as Seán Dee, Killian Walshe-O’Boyle, Neilus Mulvihill, Colm Kissane, Shane Joy, Paul

Collins, Philly Blake, Jeremy King, Pádraig Murphy, Dan Ellis, James McMahon, Barry O’Mahony and Ian Mannix. Substitutes: Rory Mulvihill for Colm Kissane (inj), Matt Moran for Killian Walshe-O’Boyle (inj), Ian Blake for Darragh Buckley (inj), Cillian Courtney for Barry O’Mahony, Jamie Culloty for Dan Ellis and Alan Breen Next up is Ballydonoghue in Coolard on Sat evening at 7pm. We host Gneeveguilla in Ballybunion on June 19th. We await details of the refixture of our game against Ardfert. Beale play Listry in the semi-final of the Junior Club Championship. The other semi-final sees Fossa play Scartaglin. We are drawn to play Ballydonoghue in the semi-final of the North Kerry League, Division 1, in Ballylongford. Date to be confirmed.

Beale juniors conceded the points to Charlie Kerins in Group 6 of the County Junior League. Our last game is scheduled for June 17th when we host Tarbert in Ballybunion. Beale GAA hosted our annual Golf Classic in Ballybunion Golf Club on Friday last in glorious sunshine. All who played enjoyed a great day’s golf and the winners were Jodie Fitzmaurice, Eamonn Fitzmaurice, Mike Keane and Pat Sheehan. Runners-up were Jack Farrell, Pat Ryan, Patie O’Mahony and Declan Horan. Special thanks to Ballybunion Golf club for making this superb venue available to us. To the teams and sponsors who have supported us over the years, thank you for your continued patronage. Without your support, the Golf Classic would not be such a great success. Beale GAA extend best wishes to everyone sitting the Leaving Cert and Junior Cert examinations, beginning this week.

ST. SENANS GAA

NKL Div 4 semi-final replay: Ballydonoghue C (3-7) Finuge B (4-13). A great performance again by our C team against Finuge’s second string side. The score line doesn’t truly reflect the closeness of the game Ballydonoghue actually led by a point with eight minutes remaining. Thanks to a great Dermot O’Connor goal after good work by Jackie Hegarty to put Dermot through. But in the final minutes the loss of a few players from the drawn game took its toll.

SYMPATHY: The club was saddened to hear of the death of Batt Maher, Drombeg recently. Batt got involved in club affairs back in late 70’s when he became selector in Juvenile and Minor teams. His greatest contribution to the club was in the early years in developing the GAA grounds that we have today. In 1977 Batt had retired from the ESB and together with local engineer John Hegarty and Johnny Walsh (contractor) began regrading and developing the ground in Coolard. Batt was Secretary for the Club and Sportsfield Committee from 1977 to 1981. His commitment and dedication to the job on hand was impeccable. Batt was pre-deceased by his Son John. To his wife Margaret, sons Tony and Brendan, daughters Majella, Angela and Christine, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and extended family, our sincere sympathy from all in Ballydonoghue GAA club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Feile Peil na nÓg: John West Féile na nÓg is a Club festival for Gaelic football and Ladies Gaelic football at Under 14 level, involving teams from across the Association. Ballydonoghue GAA Club will be hosting a team from Kilkenny. This event is no doubt a great opportunity for the Club. A top class performance by our seniors in a rip roaring game. Not having played a competitive game since our junior game against Keel a month earlier, we were slow to start as Dromid were looking the livelier side. Jack Foley’s goal seemed to settle the side and we went on to lead by six points at half time. Two minutes into the second half that was stretched to seven. Then Dromid hit a purple batch and with eight minutes remaining had pulled ahead by a single point. At this point WE showed some great composure and believe to rally again and with five minutes left Jim Cremin got on the end of a Padraig Lyons shot to finished to the net. Both sides exchanged points before we stretched our led to three points as we approached the final whistle.

Division 4 Semi Final Replay - Finuge B 4.13v Ballydonoghue C 3.07 After the tension and excitement of the drawn game the replay of Ballydonoghue C and Finuge B was eagerly awaited by both sets of supporters. It may not have lived up to expectation but there was still plenty to excite in a most entering and open game. James Flaherty and Colin Sheehy struck early with points for Finuge while Brian Mason got Ballydonoghue off the mark. James Flaherty was a real thorn in Ballydonoghue’s side and he added a couple of more points for Finuge. While Gearoid Kissane kept Ballydonoghue in touch with a couple of close in frees. Mid way through the half Ballydonoghue’s Jackie Hegarty was brought down inside the square, Geariod Kissane made no mistake from the penalty spot to put them ahead. Darren O’Sullivan had the sides level five minutes later with two pointed frees. Dermot O’Connor then put Ballydonoghue ahead before Finuge went on a scoring spree in the final 10mins of the half kicking six points without reply. HT score Finuge (0-11) Ballydon (1-04). Straight from the throw in Finuge broke down field to put the ball in the Ballydonoghue net. But Ballydonoghue weren’t giving up yet and shortly afterwards their best forward on the night Dermot O’Connor finished off a good move with a well taken goal. Both sides then missed some good scoring chances and the game looked to be tapering out before Dermot O’Connor again found the net for Ballydonoghue, to put just a point between the side with 10 mins left. Finuge (1-11) Ballydonoghue (3-4). This was as close as it got for Ballydonoghue as three mins later James Flaherty had the ball in the net for Finuge. The game was over as a contest from there on and Finuge went on to score two more goals as we approached the final whistle one apiece from Colin Sheehy (peno) and Brendan Angland.
