BALLYDUFF SCHOOL TO COMMEMORATE LUSITANIA VICTIM
Kilflynn Enchanted Fairy Festival, celebrates all things magical for children and adults alike. This year’s festival will take place in the enchanted village of Kilflynn on Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th June 2016. The Kilflynn Fairy Council have again teamed up with the local Fairies, Elves and magical characters to bring this festival to life for children and families. The Fairies, Elves and magical people were so happy that last year when over 7,000 adults & children came to visit them and play that they insisted the 10,002 year old map which shows where the fairy houses are located be re-released from the enchanted treasure chest for one day only. On Saturday a magical parade will take place at 7.30pm, with street entertainers and the wonderful Kilflynn fairies, along with other over 70 magical faces, knights and wizards. At the end of the parade, the Fairies alongside the town crier will use magic to open the sealed treasure chest. Once the map is revealed the elves and fairies will work through the night to print lots of maps for the visitors coming the following day to join in the magic setting of the meadow and fairy trail.
Sunday, is from 12 to 5pm, and a day of great excitement and fun is guaranteed for all, full of creative, magical and enchanting activities for all the family to take part in and visitors can get the 10,002 year old fairy map to find the little houses that can only be seen by the strong believers in fairies, elves and magical people. Along with the Fairy Trail visitors can take part in free creative workshops and play in the meadow which is full of entertainer’s, characters, story tellers, music and surprises around every corner. The Fairy Council hope to see you and your little people there on the day when the whole village becomes alive to celebrate family life, dreams and memories. Picnic areas are available in the meadow and along the fairy trail. There will also be a local food and craft fair throughout the day catering for older believer. The beauty of the festival is that it gives families an opportunity to go back to the basics of adventure and a chance to explore the countryside together while fostering the sense of imagination and play for children. The last 2 year’s festivals were a great example of the power and achievement that can happen when the Community of Kilflynn came together to provide a magical day for all and this year the Fairy Council are delighted to be receiving assistance from the business world with Garvey’s SuperValu supporting 150 volunteers with food, refreshments and high visibility vests.
“Garvey’s SuperValu is delighted to be associated with the Kilflynn Enchanted Fairy Festival and in particular supporting the Volunteers who put so much effort and enthusiasm into this wonderful community Festival.” Paul O’Connor, Manager Garvey’s SuperValu Listowel.

Alfred Faulkner Wheelhouse was born in Hulme, Lancashire, England, in late 1891, the only son of Frederick and Matilda Wheelhouse. Alfred Wheelhouse was a career marine engineer, employed by the Cunard Line as Junior Seventh Engineer on board the Lusitania. ABBEYFEALE REMEMBERING ZOE
A WARNING FROM SUPERINTENDENT DAN KEANE
Superintendent Dan Keane Listowel Garda District would like to warn the people of North Kerry that the internet / phone scams are continuing. There are a number of scams doing the rounds from persons purporting to be from Eir, An Post, Revenue and others. They inevitably are going to offer you some refund to your bank account and in doing so will remotely take over a laptop etc within your house. They will get you to turn off all other devices and then indicate to you that they have over refunded you and will ask to send them back the overpaid funds. You the customer will be looking at a fake page which they will have remotely entered onto your computer showing the overpaid funds. THIS IS A SCAM – Do Not Entertain such calls. These persons (criminals) who are operating from outside the jurisdiction are experts at what they do and will lull you into a false sense of security and get information from you that you do not even realise you are giving them. They will use scare tactics such as viruses on your laptop, computer to get you to entertain them. The best advice is do not engage them on the phone and tell them to write to you – otherwise just hang up on them.
Following on from the very successful cycle challenge last month, Abbeyfeale’s Remembering Zoe committee continue with their fundraising efforts in aid of the Town Park Playground, Community Games, Make a Wish and The Hope Foundation. The next event on the calendar is a Family Fun Day which will take place on Sunday, July 3 at Fr. Casey’s Clubhouse, Abbeyfeale. Underage Blitz’s, Dog Show, Bouncing Castles, Kiddie’s Disco, Face painting, Obstacle courses, Arts and Crafts and Novelty events are just some of the activities laid on for all the family. Gates open 2pm. Later on over the August Bank Holiday weekend plans are being laid for a Relay Run to Dublin leaving Abbeyfeale on Friday, July 29 and arriving at the Make a Wish Foundation Headquarters on Monday, July 31.
LISTOWEL TIDY TOWNS ARE ON ALERT AS THE JUDGES FIRST VISIT IS DUE
Last year the North Kerry town of Listowel was crowned Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town and the Listowel Tidy Towns group intend on holding their title and doing even better this year but in order to do so they are appealing to you for your continued help. As Listowel is now in the high rankings of the competition the keen eyed judges who come unannounced and unidentified are on the lookout for the smallest of flaws. You don’t have to be a meetings person to be part of Tidy Towns. “Hands-on” is our motto and the more hands we have the more work we can cover. It’s all a matter of participation and the work is never ending. Tidy Towns members, wearing their neon jackets can be seen litter-picking, planting, weeding and painting at any time throughout the year Listowel’s Tidy Towns group have been busy planting the first local Fruit & Nut orchard situated near the ball alley by the river bank. This community project was initiated by Listowel Tidy Towns / Kerry Education and Training board. It is one of the many practical actions we can take in our own home, garden, community and public places to help develop food security in Kerry, which builds a resilient and sustainable food supply for generations to come. There have also been more bird boxes put in place. See if you can find them. Remember, the first judging for the National Tidy Towns competition is about to take place. That discarded cigarette butt, the carelessly thrown sweet paper, the container left behind when you visit the recycle centre and dog fouling in public areas are all littering and a breech of the law and cost us dearly. Put that sweet paper in your pocket, be aware of where you drop your cigarette butt and when walking your dog don’t forget to scoop the poop. Dog fouling is also illegal. It must be taken into consideration that the judges take note of everything that’s visible to the naked eye from our approach roads to our town centre, residential and commercial The true meaning of Tidy Towns comes to light, when communities come together and take pride in where they live, creating a cleaner, healthier environment. This is what Tidy Towns is all about – working together for the better of the community. The Listowel Tidy Towns group meet up every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7pm outside St. Johns as they continue their regular clean ups and would be more than happy for you to join them. So remember it is only by working together that Listowel can be hailed the cleanest, healthiest, most environmental friendly town in Ireland and its with your help we can do it

Some useful advice: What is Phishing? Phishing is an attempt by a malicious source to acquire information such as usernames, passwords, credit card details, etc by purporting to be a trustworthy authority. How is Phishing Carried out? Phishing is typically carried out via an electronic source, for example via email or text message. It often directs users to input details into a fake website which looks like and is almost identical to a legitimate website. Course of Action If you receive a text message or an email from an unknown source inviting you to ring a number or click on a link or open an attachment, DO NOT take any action. Delete the message from your computer or phone immediately & report such activity to Listowel Garda Station. Superintendent Dan Keane

lovely gentle lady with a very pleasing personality and was loved by all who knew her. She was a great supporter of community initiatives and a very regular attender at our bingo sessions. Joan’s remains were removed from St. Mary’s Funeral Home, Tarbert on Friday, June 10, to St Mary’s Church Tarbert at 8pm. Requiem Mass for the repose of her soul was concelebrated by Fr. John O’Connor and Fr. Philip O’Connell on Saturday, June 11 at 11am. Joan was predeceased by her Husband Leslie. She is survived by her sons, Leslie and Michael, daughter Louise, son-in-law Michael, daughters-in-law Susan and Julia, brothers: Jimmy, Jackie and Maurice, sisters; Eileen and Nora-May, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, cousins, relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends to whom our most sincere sympathy is extended. Internment took place in Kilnaughtin Cemetery, Tarbert. May She Rest in Peace! TARBERT GAA GAA Lotto: There was no winner of last week’s lotto draw. The numbers drawn were 6, 7, 21 and 23. Lucky Dip winners were Albert Carew, Breeda Histon, Tom Enright, Michael Lanigan, Catherine Carrig, Fintan Scannell. Next week’s draw takes place in the Swanky Bar with a jackpot of €4,950. Thanks you who continue to support the Lotto County League: Tarbert continued their poor run in the county league with a home defeat against St. Pat’s Blennerville. Kevin Enright opened the score before St. Pat’s responded with four points. Brendan Cregan got one back for Tarbert which was followed by two frees from each side to leave the score at half time 0-6 to 0-4 in favour of St. Pat’s. A goal from the throw end was a big blow to Tarbert but in fairness the understrength Tarbert team never gave up and with half way through the second half there was only two points between the sides at 1-8 to 0-9 thanks to the boot of Andrew Doherty. Another goal by St. Pat’s from a penalty secured victory for St. Pat’s on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-9. Tarbert have no game next weekend but face four games in the month of July which will be crucial to survival in Division 3 but at least the panel will be strengthened with the return of players. Tarbert juniors were defeated by Ardfert last Friday evening in Shannon Park on a scoreline of 2-8 to 5-9. Next up is an away game to Beale next Friday evening. Coiste na nOg : Tarbert U-12 team are away to Beale next Tuesday evening. COISTE NA NOG The Under-8s took part in a football blitz in Ballydonoghue on Friday evening. Two teams travelled to Coolard for three games each. Their performance demonstrated how well they have been doing in training recently. It is great to see these players are coming along. Well done to all! The Under-10 footballers also travelled to Coolard this week for their third blitz of the season on Wednesday evening. As in the previous two rounds, the two Ballyduff teams played games against Listowel, Ballydonoghue & Knocknogoshel. The teams in this group are really getting to know each other and the games are showing a good bit of intensity. Another good event for our boys The Under-12 footballers were away to a strong and physical Kerins O’Rahillys team on Sunday night. Despite a battling performance, including a nice spell after halftime, they were unable to get the better of their opponents on the night. On the other field, however, the Colts were solid winners against their hosts, making them outright winners of their division. Congratulations to all players and mentors on another great win and a second consecutive first place finish!
The Under-13 hurlers played Ardfert at home on Tuesday night, it was a tightly contested game with neither side willing to concede defeat and both sides put on an excellent display of hurling. However, when the final whistle blew it was Ardfert who were ahead by two points. The Under-13s will play Lixnaw at home this coming Tuesday night. Finally, we would like to wish the very best of luck to the Under-14 hurlers travelling to Tipperary next weekend to participate in Feile na nGael. Have a great time boys and enjoy the experience! BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS CREDIT UNION COUNTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE Ballyduff collected their first brace of points when they defeated Cromane at Ballyduff on Friday evening last. Although Ballyduff had the first score a point from a free by Jack Goulding it was Cromane who made all the early running and were ahead by five points ahead after 15 minutes the goal coming from Sean O’Sullivan in the sixth minute. Ballyduff hit back with two points from Jack Goulding. Emmet Casey had a point for Cromane and Eddie Joy got his name on the score sheet with a point in the 24th minute. Jack Goulding was pulled down in the square and Michael Hussey gave the Cromane goalie no chance with a great shot to the corner of the net. Padraig Slattery and David Goulding had points for the home side and a point from P O'Sullivan for Cromane left them All square at halftime 1 – 6 a piece. Ballyduff introduced Mikey Boyle early in the second half and though carrying an injury he scored six points, four from play, with Eddie Joy, David Goulding and sub Paud Costello also on the score sheet. Cromane had points from O'Sullivan Casey and goal from their substitute but it was not enough and Ballyduff ran out winners on a final score of Ballyduff 1 - 15 Cromane 2 – 10.
SENIOR HURLING Ballyduff senior hurlers lost to St Brendan's in the semi final of North Kerry Championship game played at Ballyduff on Wednesday evening of last week. All eyes now turn to the County Senior Hurling Championship on June 26th in Abbeydorney where Ballyduff will meet old rivals Kilmoyley at 2.00pm. Ballyduff will host the Crotta v Abbeydorney game on Saturday June 25th. Many thanks to all the groups that came together to make the Sports field look beautiful ahead of the Feile Peil Na Nog. Surely this is an example of how many hands make light work.

By James Swallow The Most Explosive Thriller You'll Read All Year for fans of ‘I am Pilgrim’ Marc Dane is a MI6 field agent at home behind a computer screen, one step away from the action. But when a brutal attack on his team leaves Marc as the only survivor - and with the shocking knowledge that there are traitors inside MI6 - he's forced into the front line.
AWARD FOR FINESSE…Mags & Liz Horgan of Finesse Bridal Wear receiving their award from "Connect" Women in Business Awards at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel last Friday night. The award recognizes the excellent service they have provided over the last 16 years in business. Congratulations to Mags & Liz on a great and well deserved achievement
However the evidence seems to point towards Marc as the perpetrator of the attack. Accused of betraying his country, he must race against time to clear his name. With nowhere to turn to for help and no one left to trust, Marc is forced to rely on the elusive Rubicon group and their operative Lucy Keyes. Ex US Army, Lucy also knows what it's like to be an outsider, and she's got the skills that Marc is sorely lacking. A terrorist attack is coming, one bigger and more deadly than has ever been seen before. With the eyes of the security establishment elsewhere, only Lucy and Marc can stop the attack before it's too late. Results County League Division 2 - Round 5 - Beaufort 2-11 Emmets 1-07 Our seniors continued their County League campaign away to Beaufort on Saturday evening last but unfortunately came up short against a resilient home side in slippery conditions. Maurice Whelan opened the scoring for Emmets while Michael Lynch worked very hard and broke two great balls to Brendan Guiney within the first 5 minutes. Darragh Coffey equalised on 8 minutes but only after Beaufort kicked 4 wides in a row. Conor Cox fired over a massive score to put Emmets back in front before Fergal Hallissey and Coffey put the hosts in front. They never really looked back from here and only for a great save from Keith Hughes could have put Listowel under immense pressure so early in the game. Within 2 minutes Fergal Hallissey hit a 45' and a close range free over the bar to stretch the lead. Emmets attacked in waves with 25 minutes on the clock and looked dangerous inside with Bryan Murphy and Dara Hughes moving well. Denis Walsh played a nice 12 with Jack McGuire and was pulled down when baring down on Beaufort custodian Mike Moriarty and Conor Cox tapped over the resulting free. A Bryan Murphy score shortly followed as the sides headed for the break with Beaufort in front 0-05 to 0-04. Fergal Hallissey opened the second half from a placed ball while Niall O'Connor pushed the hosts 3 in front on 3 minutes. Listowel fought tooth and nail to try and get a hold on the game and did a lot of things right but just couldn't threaten the scoreboard. On 10 minutes Francis Courtney got behind the Emmets defence and hit the back of the net and when another goal followed straight after from Shane O'Sullivan and it was from here that they began to close out the game. Cormac Mulvihill tried hard for Emmets and helped himself to 1-01 while other scores came from Conor Cox and Noel Kennelly but Beaufort held firm to run out winners on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-07. Emmets: K. Hughes, D. Broderick, J. McGuire, J. Moriarty, T. Melvin, B. Guiney, D. Leahy, T. McCarthy, C. Mulvihill 1-01, M. Whelan 0-01, B. Murphy 0-01, M. Lynch, D. Hughes, C. Beale seniors lost out to Ballydonoghue in the County League, Division 3, in Coolard on Saturday evening. We were unlucky not to have robbed the points at the closing stages of the game as a shot on goal was driven over the bar to leave us one point adrift at the final whistle. However, had we capitalised on our chances in the first half, we would not have been seeking that elusive score. We had the slight edge in the first half and trailed by a point at the interval. On the changeover, as the rain continued, Ballydonoghue upped the tempo and a goal in the closing minutes brought us back into contention. The final score read: Beale 2-06, Ballydonoghue 1-10.Beale lined out as Seán Dee, Killian Walshe-O’Boyle, Neilus Mulvihill, Colm Kissane, Shane Joy, Paul Collins, Philly Blake, Jeremy King, Pádraig Murphy, Jamie Culloty, Ger O’Gorman, Dan Ellis, Darragh Buckley, James McMahon and Ian Mannix. Substitutes: Rory Mulvihill for Killian Walsh-O’Boyle (inj), Matt Moran for Shan Joy (inj), Ian Blake for Jamie Culloty, Cillian Courtney and Alan Breen We have a break now as our game against Gneeveguilla has been postponed until the end of August and we await details of the refixture of our game against Ardfert. We face Brosna, Annauscal and St Senans in July. Beale play Listry in the semi-final of the Junior Club Championship. The other semi-final sees Fossa play Scartaglin. We are drawn to play Ballydonoghue in the semifinal of the North Kerry League, Division 1, in Ballylongford. Date to be confirmed. Beale juniors play host to Tarbert on Friday at 7 O’Clock in the County League, Group 6.
Beale GAA are saddened to hear of the passing of Johnny Mulvihill, Beale, after a brief illness, bravely borne. Johnny had emigrated to the US and was laid to rest in his native Ballybunion last week. He had played football with Beale in the early 1970s and was also a talented singer and musician. Beale GAA extend sympathies to the Mulvihill family

Senior County League Ballylongford 1-10 Castlegregory 1-13 Castlegregory collected the points in this round 5 of the County League game played at O'Rahilly Park Ballylongford in wet slippery conditions. Castlegregory were quick into their stride and went four up without reply Liam Maunsell and Anthony Kelliher providing the finishing touches to several attacks.Ballylongford had to wait until the 6th minute when Ciaran O'Connor opened their account the same player added a further two in the 7th and 8th minute as Ballylongford began to come more into the game, but it was Castlegregory who maintained the upper hand and were eight to six ahead at the 29th minute mark with two excellent forty fives coming from the boot of Jordan Quirke. However it was Ballylongford who had the final score of the half with a well taken goal from Kieran Kiki Mulvihill. Half Time Score: Ballylongford 1-6 Castlegregory 0-8 Castlegregory began the second half in a similar fashion to the first as they added three points without reply to edge two points ahead by the 10th minute.Ballylongford in the meantime squandered a couple of chances and it was Tadgh McEllistrim who brought them to within a point with a well taken score in the 13th minute. Castlegregory put a bit of daylight between the sides when Anthony Kelliher made no mistake from the penalty spot hitting the roof of the net giving the goalkeeper no chance. Both sides swapped points and the gap remained at three points with time running out a final attack by Ballylongford saw a Niall Heaphy shot go just wide of the post. Referee James Brosnan Currow.
Under 14 Football St Pat’s Blennerville 6-4 Asdee/Ballylongford 6-5 Starting off the day with an early throw-in in Blennerville and finishing it off with photos alongside members of the Kerry team, our u14 team had an enjoyable and busy day. With excitement growing as the start of Féile approaches on Friday week 24th June, the u14 team put in an excellent performance following on from recent challenges against Ballydonoghue and Duagh. The clouds dried up at the
36
early throw-in of 11:00 making for a very enjoyable game contested between 2 evenly matched teams. The parish team started brightly and led by 2-3 to 2-1 at half time. On the resumption, the home team came out firing on all cylinders and took control of the game. However, Asdee/Ballylongford finished strongly when it may have been easier to drop the heads and throw in the towel, scoring 2-1 unanswered in the final minutes. Following on from this, kitted off in their new gear, the team travelled in convoy to Killarney to take in the Kerry games via a stop off for some food in Supermacs! Watching together as a group on the terraces in Fitzgerald Stadium, the team roared on every score by the Kingdom teams. The day was completed in style as the boys met many members of the Kerry team on the pitch after the final whistle. Many photos were taken with Kerry players along with collection of memorabilia including gloves and water bottles. Many thanks to all the parents who traveled today, the St. Pat’s club and Supermacs! ASDEE GAA
COUNTY LEAGUE: Asdee 0-8 Sneem/Derrynane 1-12. A very much understrength Asdee side travelled to the South Kerry venue of Sneem on Saturday last in round 5 of the Credit Union County Football league. It was nip and tuck during the opening half with the South Kerry boys taking advantage of what ever scoring opportunities that came their way whereas the visitors were finding it difficult to put scores on the board. Ronan Hussey and Ian Galvin were causing plenty problems for the Asdee rearguard with Ronan Hussey kicking some well worked points and Ian Galvin finding the net inside the first quarter. However Asdee settled and points from Kieran Kelly, (2), Paul O Carroll, Cyril Dineen and Eoin Kennedy left the half time score; Sneem/Derrynane16 Asdee 0-5. On resumption the home side went further ahead with Ian Galvin and Ronan Hussey splitting the posts early on and led 1-9 to 0-5 by the end of the third quarter. Even though the visitors failed to score up to this stage they were always battling hard and when Eoin Kennedy, Mike Breen and Cyril Dineen kicked over points the deficit was now cut to a 4pt margin. In fact with under 10mts remaining it took a superb save by the home sides goalkeeper to deny what looked like a certain Asdee goal. Sneem/Derrynane weathered the storm and kicked 3 further points to seal a victory and two valuable County league points. Asdee team and scorers; James Kelly, Eoin O Carroll, Martin Collins, Brian Coughlan, Michael Walsh, Sean Keane, Kieran Kelly, 2pts, John Doran, Darragh Keane, Mike Breen, 1pt, Eoin Kennedy, 2pts, Paul O Carroll, 1pt, Dinny Dalton, Cyril Dineen, 2pts, Matthew O Hanlon. Subs, Con Carmody for Michael Walsh, Conor Coughlan for Con Carmody, Ivan Tydings for Paul O Carroll.

Played on a perfect evening in Mountcoal this was an extremely competitive game between two very evenly matched teams. Scores proved very difficult to come by in the opening half with both defenses working very hard. Finuge/StSenans proved a little more accurate in their shooting and also struck for a vital goal, their defense in turn proved resolute limiting Emmets to a hard earned 2 points. Half time score: Finuge/StSenans 1 04 Listowel Emmets 0 02 The second half was a highly entertaining ding-dong affair with both teams throwing everything at each other. Again the Finuge/StSenans girls superior accuracy saw them open what looked like a comfortable lead again aided by a fantastic team goal. Emmets never gave up however and fought hard to get back into the game, hitting a goal and two points to reduce the lead to 5 points with full time approaching. They laid siege to the Finuge/StSenans goal for a period late in the half but failed to register the goal they needed thanks to some excellent defending by the Finuge/StSenans girls. The teams exchanged one late point each to leave the final score Finuge/StSenans 2 07 Listowel Emmets 1 05. Well done to both teams on a very entertaining game. G4M+0: Train every Thursday evening in Finuge GAA from 8.30pm. Come along and join the fun ladies! Feile: Our club is hosting Scotland in this years John West Feile South West.
