LISTOWEL YOUTHREACH IS IS STANDING UP TO BULLYING

Listowel Youthreach became the first Youthreach in Kerry to obtain the ISPCC Anti Bullying Blue Shield Award. The ISPCC Shield Campaign aims to protect children from bullying and from its effects. The “Shield My School” programme is designed to assist schools and wider community groups in responding proactively and positively to bullying behaviours. In recognition of the hard work that schools invest into this programme the ISPCC now awards its “Blue Shield Flag” to schools that complete a strict set of criteria including; The completion of the “Shield My School” self-assessment toolkit, Installation of the “Stand Up” Bullying Report Tool, Appointing an Anti-Bullying Co-ordinator, along with Holding an Anti-Bullying Awareness Week. The process of achieving the award involved a collaborative approach between management, staff, parent and most importantly learners attending our programme. Following the completion of the Blue Shield process both staff, leaners and parents have a greater awareness and understanding of bullying related issues and concerns. In addition, the Blue Shield will assist Listowel Youthreach in managing and responding to incidents of bullying within the programme. Great credit must go to the learners for their participation and involvement throughout the Blue Shield Campaign. Special mention must also be given to the management of KDYS and Kerry ETB for their support and input. Finally, the attainment of the award would not have been possible without the guidance and direction from the ISPCC during every step of the process.

Music Sunday Afternoon provided by 'Boxcar Mike'. At 8pm the Barmans Race will take place at the village cross. From 9-12 the Parish Hall will host a Rambling House. GRANT SCHEME AVAILABLE FOR SEPTIC TANK PROBLEMS

Home owners who are experiencing problems with their septic tanks and who need financial assistance from their local authorities have been informed by the Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government that under the Domestic Waste Water Treatment Systems Financial Assistance there is a grant scheme to assist with the cost of remediation of septic tanks and domestic waste water treatment systems which are deemed following an inspection under the Environmental Protection Agencies National Inspection Plan to require repair or upgrading. The grant scheme insures that the limited financial resources available are targeted towards householders particularly those on lower incomes who incur expenditure directly as a result of the implementation of the water services amendment act. The regulation provides that subject to the applicant meeting all qualification criteria a local authority may pay a grant to a person who is required following an inspection to have repairs or upgrades to or replacement of septic tanks or other domestic waste water treatment systems. Application for grant aid are administered by the local authority in whose functional areas the particular domestic waste water treatment system requiring remediation is situated where a local authority pays a grant under the scheme. The Ministers Department will recoup 100% of the amount paid by the local authority. The Minister was responding to a Parliamentary Question by Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae who raised the matter in recent days in the Dail.

Results; County Senior Hurling Championship Round 3 Lixnaw; 1-16 Kilmoyley; 1-19 SENIORS Lixnaw bowed out of the county senior hurling championship following their 1-19 to 1-16 point defeat to Kilmoyley in round three played in Austin Stack Park last Sunday. A poor opening half from Lixnaw, who had played with the aid of the breeze, saw them retire at half time one point in arrears, 1-8 to 0-10. With the wind to come for Kilmoyley, it was not looking good for Lixnaw at this stage. A pointed free from Mike Conway levelled the match in the opening minute of the second half but Kilmoyley hit five points in a row to hit the front again. Two Lixnaw points left three points between the sides, 1-13 to 0-13 and anybody’s match. Kilmoyley stretched their lead by five points again before Lixnaw introduced Enda Galvin to telling effect. A Mike Conway goal five minutes before the end gave Lixnaw some hope but it came that bit too late. Lixnaw came in search of the equalising goal but Kilmoyley held out. Good luck to Kilmoyley now as they go forward to the semi final, disappointment for Lixnaw and back to the drawing board. Team; Martin Stackpoole, Darragh Shanahan, Pat Corridan,

KILFLYNN Children from Belarus enjoyed a special day with the fairies on Friday afternoon 22nd July. This is the third year children have been coming to Kilflynn to embrace the magic of the village. Once again the local people can together to help create such a magical experience for the children and they got to go on the fairy trail. CROTTA WIN COUNTY MINOR HURLING LEAGUE DIV 1 TITLE: Crotta 3-18 Lixnaw 2-16 The Crotta Minor Team made history on Monday evening July 18th when they won the County League Division 1 Final for the very first time in the history of the Club. Their opponents were Lixnaw and credit goes to both teams for providing a tremendous match on a beautiful evening for hurling. The game was played in Abbeydorney (arguably one of the best surfaces for hurling in the Country) before a large crowd. Crotta started the brighter and Barry Mahony was proving to be a real handful for the Lixnaw defence. Barry Mahony opened the scoring with three pointed frees before Lixnaw’s chief scorer Shane Conway opened their account from a free. These two excellent hurlers swapped scores on a number of other ocassions and after 18mins the score was Crotta 0-07 Lixnaw 0-04. Sean O’Donoghue who was mopping up a lot of ball around the middle then sent a long delivery towards the Lixnaw goal. This was well caught by Dylan McElligott who turned and crashed the ball to the Lixnaw net. Shortly after though a well taken goal by Thomas Molyneaux brought the deficit again to three points. Darragh Kennelly was leading a very good defensive unit at this stage and his reading of the play was a feature of the game. Darragh Behan switched to full back and this helped to limit the Lixnaw inside line to very few chances. Eamonn Shanahan and Jeaic Mckenna were also getting the better of their direct opponents and Tomas O’Connor was covering a lot of ground around the middle. John Quilter who played really well over the hour , won possession from an Adam O’Sullivan puck out and fired it over the bar. Donal Hunt who was lively throughout also put his name on the score sheet from a tight angle. Sean O’Donoghue also split the posts with a point and in a short space of time Lixnaw’s goal was cancelled out and Crotta retained their six point lead which proved crucial. Barry Mahony and Shane Conway converted any free they were given and this left the half time score: Crotta 1-14 Lixnaw 1-08. The second half was really competitive and was score for score with both Barry Mahony and Shane Conway trading points from frees and play. When Lixnaw did reduce the deficit to four points on two occasions they were rocked by two goals from corner forwards Donal Hunt and Darragh O’Donoghue. These goals helped Crotta have the cushion of 7 point leads on two different occasions near the end of the contest. Lixnaw did manage to raise a second green flag three minutes from time but Crotta never looked in danger after that and Referee Mike Joy blew the full time whistle to scenes of jubilation. Crotta: Adam O’Sullivan Eamon Shanahan Thomas Quinlan Darragh Kennelly Paudie Dillon Darragh Behan Jeaic McKenna Tomas O’Connor(Capt) Sean O’Donoghue(0-01) Brandon Conway Barry Mahony (0-15,0-08f)John Quilter(0-01) Darragh O’Donoghue(1-00) Dylan McElligott(1-00) Donal Hunt(1-01). Ger also presented Barry Mahony with the Man of the Match award which was thoroughly deserved. Brendan Mahony is the Manager of the Minor team and his backroom team are Micheal Lynch, John Edwards, Paul O’Donoghue and Shane Nolan. Sean Weir and Raymond Nolan also assisted during Final. CROTTA LEISURE CYCLISTS Congratulations to the 40 plus members of our local cycling who took part in the Annual Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle of 112 miles recently. Despite a very wet start from Killarney to Killorglin, weather conditions were pretty good though throughout with only the occasional shower to contend with. A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all with a tremendous sense of achievement in having completed the 112 miles especially for the members who were doing it the first time. It is estimated that up to 11,000 cyclists took part in total which makes it the biggest charity cycle in the country. It is a wonderfully organised and stewarded event with over 1,100 volunteers on duty during the day. The group would like to express their thanks to Mike and Geraldine Parker for hosting their post cycle BBQ and celebration which went on to the early hours. CROTTA COISTE NA NOG It was a very successful week for Crotta Coiste na nOg. Following on from the historic win by the Minors on Monday the U16s, U15’s and U10’s also won. Ballyduff have won the last two Feile’s so this was always going to be a difficult match. Crotta led by 1-06 to 0-04 at half time but with a lot of players playing really well the eventually won on a scoreline of Crotta 2-12 Ballyduff 1-07. Crotta will now play Ballyheighue in the County Final on Tuesday August 2nd at 6.15pm in Austin Stack Park. Crotta team: Darragh Murnane Ryan McElligott Micheal Kennedy Aodhan Behan Tomas Dillon Daniel O’Rourke Cillian Trant Declan O’Donoghue(0-01) James Sheehan Denis Quille(001) Darragh O’Donoghue(1-09,1-05f) Daniel Hunt Sean Murnane(0-01) Tadgh McKenna Eoin Relihan(1-00). Ballydonogue came into the game more and following a well worked goal and some long range points were up 1-6 to 2-2 at half time. The second half was a tense affair and never more than two points between the sides. Both sets of forwards were on top but Tarbert held their nerve and won on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-14 in a very sporting and entertaining game of football. Camp : Date for your diary is the upcoming football Cul camp, which will be held in Tarbert on Monday 15th August to Friday 19th August.

SENIOR HURLING What a display by our snr hurlers on Sunday Last when they defeated Causeway to qualify for the Co semi final Early goals from jn Hussey Jack Goulding Liam Boyle and Podge Boyle put Ballyduff in a dominant position and they never looked back While this was a terrific team performance one has to single out Podge Boyle playing in his first game in 13 maths and scored. 1-9 in a Man of the match performance Great to have you back Podge hope there's plenty more to come Scorers. P Boyle 1-9 J Goulding 2-1, L Boyle 1-2 G O'Brien 0-2 D O’Carroll 0-1 jn Hussey 1-0 E O'Connor 0-1. This game doubled up for Co League pts also Co Semi final date Aug 14th Minor hurlers had a good against Ballyheigue on Monday evening last winning by 5-9 to 0-7 they are due to play Tralee Parnell's. This week. Snr Footballers are due to play Tourist in a postponed fixture this Saturday in Ballyduff COISTE NA NOG There were a lot of teams back in action this week, starting with the Under-12 Colts football side who completed their second league round with another victory away to Bally/Asdee on Monday evening. This team has had a great season and proved their potential yet again, winning their league for the second time in a row. Meanwhile, the Under-14s were engaged in the semi-final of the 9-a-side “Super-touch” football competition in Duagh. Their impressive win took them to a decider on Friday against a tough Beale side where a man-of-the-match performance from Dylan Moriarty helped them to take the title. Well done to the team on another strong showing in what has been a great summer for these players and mentors. As if that wasn’t enough, many of the same players were also in action on Thursday in an Under-15 hurling match against Crotta. Unfortunately, a late goal turned the game in Crotta’s favour, resulting in a one-point defeat. The Under-16s also took on Crotta, in this case on Tuesday evening, but were also on the losing side.

The Under-14 hurlers, however, managed a nice 7point victory against Ardfert on Saturday, finishing the week on a high. TRULY MADLY GUILTY By Liane Moriarty

The electrifying new novel from the international bestselling author, Liane Moriarty Despite their differences, Erika and Clementine have been best friends since they were children. So when Erika needs help, Clementine should be the obvious person to turn to. Or so you'd think. For Clementine, as a mother of a two desperately trying to practise for the audition of a lifetime, the last thing she needs is Erika asking for something, again. But the barbecue should be the perfect way to forget their problems for a while. Especially when their hosts, Vid and Tiffany, are only too happy to distract them.

Which is how it all spirals out of control‌

LISTOWEL ATHLETIC CLUB

National T&F: GloHealth National Juvenile Track and Field Championships continued last weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. This is the climax of the summer athletic season to unleash all the training hours accumulated over the past few months. Lios Tuathail AC had five athletes in action. These athletes did the club and themselves proud coming home with a Gold, Bronze and PBs. First on Saturday Michael Tony jumped further and longer than all of his competitors to win the U16 Boys Triple Jump. This was a fantastic result for Michael who is a consistent athlete at training and has a bright future ahead of him. Michael just came back from injury, so this was even more impressive. Aoife Mahony won Bronze in the Girls U18 1500m. Aoife had already won gold in the 800m a few weeks back so again good running by Aoife to come home with another PB and national medal. Sasha Brent ran in the U17 1500m completing well at this level. Sasha is focusing on the community games 7K, so this was a good workout and experience. Sinead Hunt ran a PB in the U17 200m competing well in her semi final to be outside the finals placings. Another good experience for this young athlete. Niamh Cullen also completed in the 200m at U18 age group. Good to see Niamh back completing after an ankle injury earlier in the summer. This weekend the actions turns to the Munster Masters in Waterford. Best of luck to all athletes.

Beale GAA & Ballybunion Community Centre would like to thank everyone for their continued support in buying our weekly lotto tickets.

Beale seniors were the sharper and fitter team in the opening half of round 9 of the County League, Division 3, in Mountcoal, on Sunday last. Good team work and shrewd movement of the ball gave us a 3-point cushion at the interval, 0-8 to 0-5. A goal early in the second half sent us five points ahead and we should have driven on from here. However, we found it difficult to win possession and it was Senans who proved the stronger team and notched up the vital scores. The final whistle saw us one point adrift, 1-12 to 1-11 and losing out on two vital league points. We are now hovering at the bottom of the league table, with four games remaining. We host Gneeveguilla on Friday, August 5th at 7 o’clock and the following weekend we host Dromid Pearse and then it’s off to Currow at the beginning of September. We await details of the refixture of our game against Ardfert. The Beale team on duty o Sunday were: Seán Dee, Killian Walshe-O’Boyle, Colm Kissane, Neilus Mulvihill, Shane Joy (0-1), Paul Collins, Philly Blake, Jeremy King, Dan Ellis (0-1), Rory Mulvihill, Ger O’Gorman (0-3,3f), Jake O’Connell (0-1), Ian Mannix (0-1), Barry O’Mahony (1-1) and Ian Blake (01). Substitutes, Matt Moran for Paul Collins (inj), Darragh Buckley (0-2) for Rory Mulvihill, Pádraig Murphy for Shane Joy, Cillian Courtney for Ian Blake, Sheamie O’Sullivan, Tom Joy, Alan Breen and Dermott Cummins. We play Listry in the semi-final of the Junior Club Championship, while in

the other semi-final, Fossa play Scartaglin. We are drawn to play Ballydonoghue in the semi-final of the North Kerry League, Division 1, in Ballylongford. Desmonds and Tarbert contest the other semi-final. Beale minors faced a rather depleted Ballydonoghue side at home in the North Kerry League, Division 1, on Monday evening in Páirc de Staic. We got off to a better start and led 1-10 to 0-8 at half time. The second half continued in the same vein and our defence thwarted Ballydonoghue time and time again. Some great scores put the game out of reach of Ballydonoghue and the final score read 3-16 to 1-14. Beale lined out as: Michael Eoin O'Sullivan, Tommy O'Neill, Fionnán Toomey, Sheamie O'Sullivan, Alan Breen, Jack O'Sullivan, Callum McSweeney, Johnny O'Sullivan Cillian Courtney, Fintan Linnane, Aaron Kelly, Eric Daly and Darragh Buckley. Substitutes: Seán Maloney for Aaron Kelly, Jordan O'Rourke for Seán Maloney and Darragh Finn for Fintan Linnane, Killian Downey, David Hennessy and Pádraig Holly. An injury hit Beale faced St Senans at home on Thursday evening. We struggled throughout the first half, only putting one point on the scoreboard to St. Senans’ 3-4. The second half was no different and continued in the same format, as we found it difficult to deal with Senans’ forwards. At the final whistle, Senans ran out easy winners, 5-6 to 1-2. Emmets and Finuge are the other contenders in this division. For Beale GAA club updates, follow us on Facebook: Beale GAA Club.

RESULTS: Co SFL Div3 Ballydonoghue 1-14 Tarbert 2-12. Even allowing for injuries and two of our players just back from Manchester and the Kerry junior semi final on Saturday. This was certainly not one of our better performances plus the concession of two early goals in the first half left us chasing the game from an early stage. We were still a point ahead at half time but failed to pull clear in the second half. BALLYLONGFORD GAA

County League: Ballylongford 1.20 Knocknagoshel 0-10 Ballylongford collected the points with a home win over Knocknagoshel in round 9 of the Credit Union Senior County League played at O'Rahilly Park Ballylongford on Saturday last. Playing with the aid of a breeze it was Ballylongford who started the brighter with Ciaran O'Connor putting two points on the board in first two minutes. Knocknagoshel levelled the game when Gary O'Dunaigh came up from centre back for their opening score this was quickly followed with a long range free from the impressive Ciaran O'Dhunaigh lining out at full forward. Ballylongford regained control of the game once again and began to add on the points with Joe McCarthy (4) Ciaran O'Connor (5)Kieran Connolly( 1) Eddie Mangan (1)and a great long range point from James Cahilane giving them a commanding lead,Kieran Connolly had a good goal opportunity but his fisted effort went wide of the post. Knocknagoshel added a further two points leaving the half time score. Ballylongford 0-14 Knocknagoshel 0-4 Knocknagoshel enjoyed their best period of the game in the third quarter kicking over four unanswered points with Ciaran O'Dhunaigh proving his accuracy once again from placed balls. Matt Connor now playing at centre forward replacing the injured Eddie Mangan at half time got Ballylongford back on track with a point in the 7th minute. Both sides exchanged points and the game became a rather stop start affair and it ended as a contest when a mistake by Knocknagoshel goalkeeper Donal Walsh let in Thomas Doherty for an easy goal. Kieran Connolly finished out the scoring with a point on the stroke of full time. Referee Pat Sheehy Clounmacon. ASDEE GAA

NORTH KERRY LEAGUE. Asdee0-14 Knocknagoshel 0-10. By virtue of a 4pt winning margin our senior footballers qualified for the McCarthys Insurance Brokers League, Division 2 semi final and a meeting with Ballyduff with a date and venue to be confirmed. Two very much under-strength sides took the field at Walsh Park, on Wednesday evening last and after a most entertaining contest it was the home side that came out on top. Certainly this was a very much improved display by Asdee from some previous encounters and on this occasion powered by Darragh Keane scorer of 5 magnificent points; all from play, giving a truly Man of the Match performance at midfield along with Kieran Kelly putting the shackles on Knocks dangerman James Walsh; however it must be said that the aforementioned player was always a threat and got all but 2 of his sides tally with 4 of those coming from frees. The game got underway with Knock quickly into their stride and after Asdee were to kick 5 wides in succession it was Knock who were first to get on the scoresheet with corner back Ritchie Cotter firing over a fine point in the 6th minute. Further points followed from James Walsh, (3) and Cillian O Connor before Asdee opened their account through Paul O Carroll by the 13th minute. Up to this it was the visitors who were in complete control with Mike Brosnan dominant at full back and Padraig Reidy and Darragh O Connoll doing likewise. An injury to Darragh O Connell, (midfield) who had to go off before the break was a huge loss to Knock. Asdee weathered the storm to force their way back in the game and a long range point from Kieran Kelly led the revivial. James Walsh, (2) and Matthew O Hanlon and Eoin Tydings exchanged points and after 22mts only a point separated the sides in favour of Knock. In the final 7mts of the half Asdee played some delightful football with Sean Keane, Noel Long and John Doran in the thick of the action and points from Darragh Keane, (2) and Eoin Kennedy with Knocks only reply from James Walsh leaving the half time score; Asdee 0-8 Knock 0-7.At the interval Eoin Kennedy was forced to retire with an injury and was replaced by his father John and even though the pace was long gone from the former All Ireland Senior Medal holder he was quick to make his mark sending over from 30meters after 10mts. Now Asdee were well on top in this half with Eoin Tydings and Paul O Carroll in tremendous form and even though they never lost the lead the Knock boys kept knocking on the door but a number of wides didn’t help their cause either. Michael Walsh, Dan Roache and David O Donoghue kept chasing and with Shane O Connell guarding his net well; there was always the threat of a goal at the other end. Still the home side were just keeping their noses in front and Paul O Carroll, Matthew O Hanlon, Darragh Keane,(2) on target; with James Walsh recording Knock final points. ALL IRELAND SEMI FINAL. Congratulations to Darren Russell of Asdee who played a major role with Lancashire Senior Footballers on Saturday last in the All Ireland Junior Championship Semi Final against the Kerry Junior footballers at Old Bedians Sports Ground. However in defeat the Asdee man being the only Kerryman on the side didn’t leave his team mates down having an impressive outing at wing forward and was the scorer of the games opening goal. Darren qualified to play with Lancashire having graduated recently from Edge Hill College and is now teaching in Liverpool.

UNDER 12s. Asdee/Bally wound up their North Kerry League campaign at Jack Walsh, Park, Asdee on Monday evening last against Ballyduff. It was nip and took early on in the first half only for the visitors to take over for the last 15mts or so and had a comfortable half time lead. However on the changeover the home side got stuck in and took the game to a fancied Ballyduff side and at the final whistle only a 5pt margin separated the teams.
