KERRY COUNTY CLEAN UP ON APRIL 2ND

The Gooch launches the 5th “Kerry County Clean Up” which takes place Saturday April 2nd 2016. The date has been announced for the 5th annual “Kerry County Clean Up” day which is facilitated by KWD Recycling with the support of the Kerry County Council, Kerry County Board, An Taisce and the Department of Environment. The Gooch was on hand to help launch this worthy one day event in the Ballygarry House Hotel with many tidy town committees and volunteer groups in attendance, along with KWD Recycling and Kerry County Council representatives. This initiative has grown from strength to strength in the last 4 years and organisers are now going for the 5th County Clean up in a row which is a huge milestone. The aim as ever, is to pick up all the litter, on one day, from all our main roads around Kerry in an attempt to keep our environment pristine for Locals and visitors alike to enjoy. This in turn promotes better tourism by making a lasting impression to all who visit the county. Last year 3200 volunteers collected over 60 tonnes of litter off Kerry roads. The benefits of this is immense and immediately noticeable with cleaner roadways, adding to the famous beauty of Kerry. As well as making a huge difference to the beauty and scenery of Kerry, it’s also a great way to get local communities and groups together for a good cause and it’s easy to get involved, please show your support and log onto www.countycleanup.com where you can register your group and order a free “Clean Up Day Pack” which includes reflective vests, Red branded refuse sacks, event posters and information on how to organise your group. You can also follow progress or get information on the “Kerry County Clean Up” Facebook page. So let’s show pride in our local Community and County on April 2nd by helping out on this one day initiative to clean our roads, and keep Kerry the cleanest County in Ireland.

AN GARDA SIOCHANA First National Day of Action on March 14th

Greetings from An Garda Siochana Listowel.

The first National Day of Action is taking place on March 14th 2016 and is aimed at reminding and warning people in the run to St. Patricks Day and Easter 2016 the need to be security conscious especially with valuable items such as our phones. Listowel Gardai will be actively engaging with this campaign and will have a number of initiatives in place around the town and in North Kerry on the date in question. The Commissioner has designated that a National “Crime Prevention Day of Action” focusing on theft from persons prevention will take place on Monday 14th March 2016.

The first ‘Crime Prevention Day of Action’ of 2016 will focus on preventing thefts from persons and in particular avoiding thefts of mobile phones. The aim of this campaign is to educate the public in ways of enhancing their personal security and secondly to show people how easy it is to record details of their smart phone IMEI number and the benefits of doing so.

As this is a one day campaign, the focus is quite specific. The larger topic of personal safety, including assaults, robberies, the ‘Night time economy’ etc will be the focus of the longer ‘Supporting Safer Communities’ campaign, which traditionally coincides with the May bank holiday weekend. The timing of this campaign coincides with the St. Patrick’s Day festivities where twice as many thefts occur between the 16th and 18th of March than on any other day in March.

The National Crime Prevention Unit has developed a personal safety information pack, available for download on the Garda portal and Garda website. This pack contains crime prevention information sheets, information graphics and personal safety presentations to help community Gardai and crime prevention officers deliver a standardised theft prevention and personal safety message. Superintendent Dan Keane, Listowel Garda Station encourages all readers of the North Kerry Advertiser to record this vital and essential information from their phones and have it available in the event that their phone is stolen or has been misplaced.

ASDEE GAA

NORTH KERRY LEAGUE: Last Saturdays North Kerry League Division 2, Round 4 game against Ballyduff due to be played in Ballyduff on Saturday evening last was called off due to the pitch been deemed unplayable. At this stage Asdee haven’t played a single game in the League. Fair enough the weather hasn’t been very kind at the minute for pitches but I think here is where the North Kerry Football Board fixtures committee should step in and try and work out something out with the clubs involved. Its amazing that the majority of games in Division 1 have been played and here we are along with other clubs in our Division with very little played. Certainly the Jack Walsh Park is definitely out of action so maybe we cant complain about other pitches; but that’s not the issue here its that if clubs don’t have a venue of their own another venue should be arranged by the home club. ( O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford was playable last weekend so why was that venue not used). With just under two weeks to the first Round of the Credit Union County League it looks at the moment that this weeks game at home to Duagh will be the only preparation the team will have. (That’s of course if it goes ahead). Where these games can be fitted in what is a packed programme of fixtures is anybodys guess at the minute.

FUNDRAISER: Asdee GAA club are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the club this year and as a result will be undertaking our first large –scale fundraising drive in a number of years and will be hosting a “Stars In Their Eyes” Fundraiser in the Community Centre on Saturday April 9th and are at the minute seeking programme sponsorship from people and businesses in the area with whom we, our members, have dealt or continue to do business with. The club are looking for E25 for a quarter page, sponsorship, E50 for a half page and E100 for a full page sponsorship. Once again we greatly appreciate your continued support to make this a successful venture. The wording and lay out of your advert can be emailed to asdeegaaweb@gmail,com. CONGRATS: Congratulations to Eddie Anthony Walsh, Larha who was returned unopposed as Vice Chairman of the North Kerry Football Board at last weeks AGM. Eddie who doing tremendous work at both Club and District Board level and we wish him well for the year ahead. GOLDEN GOAL: Week 6 winner of the Golden Goal was Liam O Hanlon, Asdee East which is in conjunction with upcoming Fixtures in both National Football and Hurling League and Championship. (Televised games) Tickets are on sale from club members at E2 each with E40 to be given out each week to the winning number which corresponds with the first goal scored. North Kerry Football League. Division 2 Round 5 Sunday March 13th home to Duagh Back games v Ballylongford, Ballyduff and Knocknagoshel to be refixed.

Credit Union County Football League Division 5. Asdee will travel to Cromane to take on the locals on Sunday March 20th, 2pm. followed by a home game on Sunday March 27th against Knocknagoshel, 2pm. Premier Junior County Championship Qualifier Asdee will have a home tie against Firies at Walsh Park on Sunday April 17th.

COUNTY MINOR LEAGUE: In Round 3 on this Saturday March 12th 4pm Asdee/Bally will be at home to Beale. Round 4 on Saturday March 26th, 4pm again a home game against Ballyduff/Duagh while in the final Round on Friday April 1st, 6 30pm it will be Keel/Listry away. Home games will be played at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford.

Eamon “Bomber” O’Connor received the Hall of Fame Award for his contribution to the development of Listowel Emmets at the club social in The Arms Hotel last Saturday night. Bomber was up until recently very active within the club and really gave his life to the cause as a player and in various officer roles within the club. For two decades Eamon was involved in the promotion, administration and revival of the Coiste na nOg in Listowel and when new very green officers arrived on the scene he gave plenty of advice and never shied away from giving a helping hand. The work Eamon continued to do behind the scenes when he “retired” was phenomenal. He continued to ensure the youngest of all players received their weekly Saturday morning goodies after training, to fixing goals and organizing fundraisers so the children of Listowel could continue to enjoy playing football. Eamon leaves a huge legacy behind him in Listowel Emmets C.L.G. a thriving underage structure that began with him and a set of 10 blue cotton jerseys and handful of footballs. Congratulations again to Eamon and his family.

Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity (Mention your request here) There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times). Holy Mary, I place this prayer in your hands (3 times). Amen. This prayer is never known to fail and is to be said for 3 consecutive days. Publication on granting of the favour must be promised and done. M.M.

UNFAILING NOVENA TO TO ST. ANTHONY

"Blessed be God in His Angels and in His Saints" O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble and anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me (request). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen. T.T.
