All welcome COISTE NA NÓG U12: Hard luck to the U12 hurlers who suffered a defeat to Crotta in a sunny Dromakee on Monday evening. After a poor first half which resulted in a half time score of 2 - 5 to 0 - 0 to Crotta, it was up to the mentors to share a few words of encouragement to get their heads back in the game. It worked as the second half was a much-improved performance where they managed to outscore Crotta, however it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. The U11s had a comprehensive victory against the second Crotta team. The same players were out on Friday evening and won well against Kilmoyley. U14: It was a busy week for the U14s. On Tuesday they played at home to Parnells, although missing players, some of the younger players were able to slot in. Final score Ballyduff 2 - 13 Parnells 1 - 4. The U14 footballers drew with Tarbert in the first game of the North Kerry League in Tarbert on Friday evening. There wasn’t much time to rest as most of these boys were out in the U14 County League Hurling final against Ardfert in Ballyheigue on Saturday evening. Congratulations to Luke Kennelly (captain), the players and mentors in retaining the trophy for a second year. Both teams were hungry for victory and at half time Ballyduff were lucky to be ahead 1 - 3 to 0 - 3 thanks to a Ray McGrath goal, but Ardfert were looking threatening. Things improved in the second half and the boys increased their work rate, and managed to stay ahead, running out eventual winners on a score of 1 - 8 to 1 - 4. U16: The U16 footballers made the long journey to Gneeveguilla on Wednesday night. It was a depleted squad of 11 players and 2 U14s that took to the pitch in Gneeveguilla. The long trip took its toll for the first 15 mins and it looked like a defeat was on the cards, but two quick goals from Kieran O’Carroll and Anthony Kavanagh had the home team on the back foot. From there until the final whistle it was anyone’s game with both teams leading at patches, but we managed to just inch past them in the dying minutes of the game and won 5 – 9 to 3 – 13. BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS Minor Hurling: Heartiest congratulations to Kerry Minor Hurling team who Division 2 of the Celtic Challenge Cup on Saturday last. Well done to Manager John Hennessy, William Quinlan Giles O’Grady and players Darragh Quinlan, JP O’Carroll, Darragh Slattery, Dylan Moriarty and Sean O’Connor. They didn’t have much time to celebrate as they were in action on Sunday morning in Caherslee in minor hurling v Tralee Parnells where they came away victorious on the score 5 – 8 to 2 – 5. Senior Football: Our senior Footballers, though very much under strength, had a good win over Kerins O’Rahillys B in Ballyduff on Sunday last. Senior Hurling: County Senior Hurling Championship time is here again and on this Sunday we go into battle with Crotta O’Neills at Austin Stack Park at 1.30pm. Best of Luck to the Boys in Green YOGA CLASSES LISTOWEL In The Listowel Arms Hotel. Tuesdays, 6.30-8pm and 8.30-10pm. Pay per class, check availability. BALLYLONGFORD BEST WISHES & THANK YOU Rumours had been in abundance in recent times that our esteemed Parish Priest Fr. Padraig Kennelly would be probably leaving us this year. True enough those rumblings unfortunately became a reality on Friday 28th June last as Bishop Ray Browne announced a number of Clerical Changes within the Dioceses to take effect within the next fortnight. Fr Padraig who has been with us since 27th July 2012 was one of a number of those Clerics to be assigned to a new parish. So sadly, we bid a fond farewell to a wonderful priest who has made such a difference to everyday life since he came amongst us in our parish. He took up the appointment of P.P. of Bally/Asdee on the retirement of Fr. Philip O’Connell and like Fr Phil he had a head start in the sense that he came here with a great knowledge of the area and the people within it, as he was born and reared in neighbouring Ballydonoghue. Fr Padraig has indeed been more than a shepherd to his flock in that period of time in which he made solid friendships with both young and old from within and outside the community. Never a one to shy away from any challenge he did marvellous work during his 7 years with us, the re modifying and the putting in place of various committees and personnel to oversee so many different projects would fill this entire paper if we had to detail all. He had a wonderful way of getting things organized and completed. Not alone had he the responsibility of this Parish but in recent years he had to fill in as moderator and oversee the Parish of Tarbert which was left without a priest in recent times. The celebrating of the many various sacraments throughout the year were always conducted to perfection from the Music, Colour, Decoration and the meaning of the Sacraments were always beautifully illustrated and delivered. Christmas was special for young and old as the church was beautifully decorated, and a joy to behold. These small things along with the everyday running of the Church was so nice and made so easy by a man of great vision and goodness. He was a very jovial and easy going man who liked to help everybody in whatever way he could, and he always empathized to never complicate issues, and as he would often say himself if asked his opinion on something, his encouraging words were simply “Keep it Simple”. On the 17th June 2016 he celebrated his Silver Jubilee with us, that was a fantastic occasion and the people of the Parish came out in their droves to celebrate with him. Special occasions will be gladly and fondly remembered by everybody, who had the pleasure of dealing with Fr Padraig. Whether it was Christenings, Holy Communion, Confirmation, Marriage or Death he always comforted, consoled and celebrated in a very helpful way. Thanks Fr Padraig for all you did for us, and I know that various people will have various memories of you, which we will forever cherish. Finally, on behalf of the whole Community we wish our esteemed Parish Priest every happiness and health as you take your leave of us and take up your new ministry in Firies in Killarney. As the verse of and Irish blessing goes: May their always be A sunbeam to warm you, A moonbeam to charm you, A sheltering angel so nothing can harm you and May God Bless and Keep You Safe. Mile Buiochas a chara Padra Padraig. WELCOME We extend a sincere and warm welcome to Rev. Fr. Michael Hussey PP who is transferring to us from Castlegregory where he served as P.P. before being appointed Parish Priest of Ballylongford We hope that Fr Michael will enjoy many happy years of happiness and health with us. Duagh/Lyre Community Games participants had been preparing for a number of weeks on the run up to the event. Each participant had made great progress and was ready to take on theaction at An Ríocht. Over the two days we as an area would like to take this opportunity to thank all our participants, parents, volunteers and those who assisted everyone over the two days, our little community have alot to be grateful for and all the friendships that are formed over the two days. Our area finished 5 th overall on the medal table with some great results over the two days. Our medals: u10 hurdles goldKate Sheridan, U12 100m Saoirse Dillon, U12 200m Gavin Dillon and U12 long jump Ronan Sheridan.Silver: U12 ball throw Dylan Buckley, U13 mixed relay and U15 mixed relay. Bronze: U14 javelin Mike Galvin. Pewter: U14 shot putt Aoibhínn Harte, U14 Javelin Leyra Moriarty and u12 boys relay. We are so proud of every participant over the two days and know that they wore the singlet with pride and always had a big smile on their faces no matter what the result. Being a participant in our eyes is a winner, to go out there and do you best is all you can do no matter what the result and having precious memories to look back in years to come. In the U10 boys 100m: Ashton Kelly, John Ryan and Liam Galvin with both Ashton and Liam getting through to the semi-finals after day one, on day two Ashton and Liam ran great with Liam getting through to the final and just outside the medals. In the U10 girls 100m: Caoimhe Fitzgerald, Catherine Buckley and Abbie McElligott with Catherine getting through to the final on Day 2 running extremely well and just outside the medals. In the Boys U12 100m: Thomas Kelly and Ronan Sheridan with Ronan getting though on day one and on day two getting to the final putting in a superb run to win bronze. In the U12 100m girls: On Day 2 Saoirse Dillon was part of a relay team that had to be re-run so when called for her semi-final race already had two hard runs in her legs, she took it all in her stride and cruised home for a place in the final. In the final Saoirse ran with easy and took home gold to represent her area and County in National finals in UL in August, best of luck Saoirse.

In the girls U14: In the semi all girls ran well with Eimear Buckley securing a place in the final and Aoibhinn Harte narrowly losing out finishing in fifth and Lerya Moriarty running a great race. In the final Eimear ran well again after two hard runs in a rerun relay and finished outside the medals. Boys U12 200m: Daibhéid O’Regan and Gavin Dillon (2018 gold winner last year) ran well in tough competition with Gavin going through to the semi on day two. On Day two Gavin on the back of two runs in the rerun relay went straight over to the 200m semi and won comfortably, in the final Gavin put in a really measured performance taking the gold close to the line in a well-deserved win. This is a Co. only event so unfortunately Gavin doesn’t go through to the National finals. Next up was the turn of the girls U10 60m hurdles: Kate Sheridan ran strong winning her race and a place into the final. In the final Kate got off to a great start and was neck and neck going into the second hurdle, after that hurdle Kate found her stride and just ahead over the third and running on strongly to take the gold medal and a place in National finals. The field events yielded some medals for Duagh/ Lyre with the ball throw U12 on Saturday, taking part were Dylan Buckley (2018 gold medal winner), Gavin O Brien and Thomas Kelly. The boys got three throws with the farthest throw being measured, all boys threw over the 30m with Dylan having the longest throw for our area well over 40m. Dylan finished in second overall winning silver, during the week some great news filtered through that the winner had chosen another event and Dylan nowgets to represent Kerry for a second year in a row and we wish Dylan the very best at National finalsin UL. In the U12 boys long jump Ronan Sheridan jumped himself into the gold medal. In the U14 boys Javelin Mike Galvin threw super and claimed a bronze medal. Inthe U14 girls Javelin congratulations to Leyra Moriarty on winning the pewter medal. In the U14 shot putt girls Aoibhínn Harte threw a new pb to win a pewter medal. The most exciting part of both days were the relays. Duagh /Lyre had a number of relay teams, U10 mixed, U13 mixed, u15 mixed, U12 boys and girls and U14 girls. On day one the U10mixed finished a strong second and got through to the semi in day two. On day two a great run in the semi saw the team secure a slot for the final, however in the final were outside the medals. Team: Kate Sheridan, Catherine Buckley, Abbie McElligott, Liam Galvin, Thomas Cahill and Ashton Kelly. In the U15 mixed relay ran brilliantly to secure silver, team: Fearghal Cudlipp, Mike Galvin, Amie Woods and Iyanu Alousa. In the U13 mixed relay this turned out to be a straight final first thing on Sunday morning with super runs in each leg by our participants with tight baton changes and a nail biting finish saw Duagh/Lyre win silver. In the aftermath of the results an announcement was made that there was to be a re-runof the race, hopes were high and our participants were up for this realising that there was another chance at the gold medal. After a great performance we achieved silver. Team: Saoirse Dillon, Eimear Buckley, Aoibhínn Harte, Gavin Dillon, Oisín O’Regan and Luke Sheridan. Many thanks to John Bunyan for coaching the relay teams, Andy Keane on coaching the hurdles, Liz Twomey athletics and javelin and Neilus for the ball throw. Thanks to parents for assisting with the training and for ferrying the participants to and from training and to the track over the two days, your continued support is much appreciated. Thanks to all our volunteers as this is not possible, especially Geraldine McNamara who is a long servant of Duagh/Lyre Community games and was present at the track over the two days, gathering singlets, passing out numbers and pins and of course helping athletes to events. Thanks to the hard working Co Community Games committee and volunteers for a well run event over two days.

BEALE GAA

Beale seniors secured the points against Dingle B in Páirc de Staic on Sunday in the County League, Division 5. Supporters witnessed a very even first half with some good moves and defensive work by both teams. There was very little between them on the field of play and, indeed, on the scoreboard. We went in at the interval with our noses barely in front, 0-5 to 0-4. Both teams upped the tempo on the changeover as we snatched a fast opening goal and went on to lead by five points. Within minutes, Dingle pulled us back, raising the green flag at the other end. We pulled off a great save and it was tit for tat now on the field of play. However, even though Dingle were still very much in it, it’s true to say that we were that bit sharper. While little separated the teams on the scoreboard, it looked like the game was ours to lose in the closing quarter. The final score ended in our favour, 1-15 1-10. We travel to Stand Road in two weeks time to play Kerins O‘Rahillys B and the following weekend we play host to Dr Crokes C. Beale juniors host Moyvane in Ballybunion on Friday evening in the County Junior League, Group 5. Throw in at 7.30. We then travel to Churchill for our final round game on July 19th. The North Kerry Minor League begins on Thursday, July 11th, when we play Ballylongford/Ballydonoghue/Asdee/Clounmacon in Division 1 in Clounmacon. Throw in at 7.30. Other teams in this division include Castleisland Desmonds and Brosna/Duagh/Knocknagoshel. Beale GAA hosts two Cùl Camps this summer: July 8th - 12th and August 12th 16th. Register online at Gaa.ie/kelloggsculcamp. Registration can also be done on Monday, July 8th. A fantastic week of fun and games under the supervision of trained coaches at Pâirc de Staic, Ballybunion.

KNOCKNAGOSHEL GAA

Knocknagoshel travelled to play Beaufort B in Round 7 of the County Senior Football League on Sunday afternoon. Knocknagoshel dominated proceedings from the throw-in and had a goal by Edmond Walsh in the first minute. Michael Walsh, David O’Donoghue, John Walsh, Edmond Walsh and Niall Barrett added points for the visitors while three pointed frees by Paudie Coffey were the only first half scores for Beaufort B. Half time Beaufort B 0-3 Knocknagoshel 1-10. Knocknagoshel, having introduced a number of substitues early in the second half, continued to add to the scoresheet with Dan Roche, Edmond Walsh, Niall Barrett, Michael Keane and David Cahill adding further points. Beaufort B had second half points by Kevin Ferris, Paudie Coffey and Oisin O’Connor but Knocknagoshel ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of Beaufort B 0-8 Knocknagoshel 1-18. North Kerry Division 2 Final; Knocknagoshel will play Asdee in the North Kerry Division 2 Final on Saturday 6th July at 7pm. ASDEE GAA

COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 5: Asdee 1-11 John Mitchels “B” 2-7 Asdee won out in Tralee after a battle, having made the game much tighter than it probably should have been. In tricky windy conditions, Asdee played against the wind in the first half and got off to a lively start but were to squander a couple of chances after lovely team moves. Darren Russell opened the scoring with a great point for a well deserved score. After the teams swapped scores, the crucial score of the game came when Owen Tydings finished a fine move with a rocket to the top corner of the net. Mitchels came back strong and nearly broke through for a couple of goals but some excellent play by the Asdee defence kept them out. Owen Tydings added 2 fine points before the break to see the teams all square at 1-3 each at half time. Asdee started the second half strongly and went 2 points ahead with fine scores from Darragh Keane & Paul O‘Carroll. Mitchels hit back with a point before Darragh Keane, Darren Russell & Paul O’Carroll hit lovely points at the end of excellent flowing moves. Mitchels added a couple of frees to close the gap before Darragh Keane notched up 2 points, one an excellent long range effort. Mitchels tried to break down the Asdee defence for a goal but it held firm, with one free to show for their endeavors. A brilliant Asdee counter attack ended with Shea Doran tipping it over for a fine point. 4 points down, Mitchels made a last push & won a penalty in injury time to make it a 1 point game. Asdee squandered a scoring chance before turning over the ball & the final whistle followed for a big win for Asdee. Asdee fought very hard, mighty work rate, with some lovely moves & if they had converted some of the wides it might have been a fairer reflection. Asdee move to a well deserved third place in the table & now have Beaufort B in two weeks time. Team: James Kelly, Con Carmody, Kieran Kelly, Conor Keane, Mike Breen, Martin Collins, Jack Keane, John Doran, Darragh Keane 0-4, Paul O’Carroll 0-2, Sean

NORTH KERRY LEAGUE FINAL: The North Kerry McCarthys Insurance Brokers Senior League Division 2 final a competition that got underway in early February is finally going ahead on this Saturday evening despite having plenty obstructions along the way at semi final level which was due to be played on March 17th and which in no way did Asdee play any part for holding up the competition. A phone call on Sunday evening to our North Kerry Board Delegate and member of the C C C Committee from the North Kerry Board confirmed that the game Asdee v Knocknagoshel will go ahead on this Saturday evening with time and Venue yet to be confirmed. Deadlines must be met for the P R O, So for further information check with Club Secretary, Mark O Hanlon for further details. Knock will go in as firm favourities as on recent form they seem to hold the upper hand on Asdee but all games are well contested but in fairness there isn’t much separating the sides when they meet. So hopefully on this occasion Asdee Captain , Sean Keane will be holding the Division 2 trophy aloft on Saturday evening . We need all our many followers to once again come out to cheer the boys on to victory. NATIONAL SCHOOL: St. Marys, Asdee GAA would like to congratulate Asdee National School on their 50 years Anniversary of the present building which replaced the original stone building. An enjoyable function was held in the school last Wednesday evening to celebrate the 50th Anniversary. The event also honoured the graduating sixth class and saw the Bun Scoile team receiving their North Kerry medals. Looking back through the years this column would not permit me space to mention all the past pupils who excelled in their various professions that attended the School. So we have a look back on the G A A side of things; this school has produced some top class footballers and especially are proud to say that seven All Ireland Senior Football medals came its way with Paud and Eamon O Donoghue along with John Kennedy, and of course the famous Croke Memorial Medal (Jack Moriarty) which is certainly historical as it was in that Croke Memorial Final 1913 after a replay between Kerry the winners and Louth that attracted a record crowd at the time of 32,000 and a cash flow of £1,930 and it was that windfall which enabled the G A A to purchase the then Jones Road. Thus did Croke Park come into existence and Asdees Jack Moriarty was one of the players who helped to buy the now famous ground. Paud is the holder of All Ireland Senior (2), 5 National League, All Ireland Minor and U21, 3 County Senior Championship, Eamon, 2 All Ireland Senior, 5 National League and Railway Cup 3 County Senior Championship, John Kennedy, 3; along with Junior and Inter Firm. Mike Walsh, Junior All Ireland, All Ireland ladies,(Emer McElligott U14), Moira McElligott, All Ireland Womens Boxing Elete Championship ;(first Kerry woman to do so), All Ireland Colleges, St. Brendans, Killarney, Donal Kissane, Minor All Ireland, Tom Sheehy, All Ireland 7-a-side and Inter firm Kerry Co Op, Donie Mulvihill, Junior, All Ireland Club Championship, (Liam Horgan, Baltanglass, Wicklow), All Ireland Freshers I. T. Tralee, (Eoin Kennedy) John Joe O Carroll, All Ireland, Inter Firm, Burlington, Others Munster medal holders too numerous to mention included, Munster, Vocational, Colleges, Clerical Officers. GOLDEN GOAL Week 19/20 winners in our Fundraisers”Golden Goal” over the past two weeks were; Moss Hanlon, Asdee East and Cillian Coughlan, Carrigaline, County Cork; Tom Lynch, Tullamore, Ballybunion and Liam Doyle, Tullahinell who will each receive E40 to be given out each week to the winning number that corresponds with the first goal scored. This is in conjunction with upcoming Fixtures in both National Football and Hurling Leagues and Championship; (Televised games). Tickets are now available and will be on sale each week for the duration of both National League and Championship from Club members and at the usual outlets; “Jack Jays” Bar and John Pius at E2 each.
