COME TOGETHER AGAIN FOR CULTURE NIGHT 2021

Culture Night returns to Kerry on Friday 17th September, with 40 free events to celebrate the rich and diverse creativity that is alive and treasured throughout the Kingdom. Kerry County Council Arts Office has been busy organising a very special programme of events to bring people together again to celebrate theatre, live music, literature and the arts in all its glorious forms. Listowel lives up to its rich cultural heritage with a raft of events happening throughout Culture Night. St John’s Theatre in Listowel are setting up Glamping Pods at the Ball Alley with Listowel Poet Laureate Dairena Ní Chinnéide, singer Lorraine Nash and Aoife and Deirdre Granville on harp and flute, all rotated so audiences experience a variety of live arts entertainment. Later, inside the theatre, The Twilight Hour will feature song, music art and chat with Larry Beau, Ann Blake, Billy Dante, Donal Gallagher and Aideen Wylde. Outdoors at the Listowel Castle Amphitheatre, Tales from the Kingdom will launch the International Storytelling Festival with the finest of local storytellers, poets and musicians. A short film featuring the work of Theatrix Youth Theatre will be streamed while the eco-social farm The Barna Way outside Ballybunion will open its gates for an immersive experience in nature. Mayor of Kerry, Jimmy Moloney who is looking forward to the night, says, ‘Culture Night is a great opportunity for people to come together and reconnect in our cultural venues, theatres and museums, and in the many spectacular outdoor locations that have been reimagined to celebrate this moment in our cultural calendar. He continues, ‘This one night of celebration is a reminder of what we have been missing as we emerge from the pandemic and we can now have real hope that these experiences will be available into the autumn, winter and beyond’ . Capacity at all venues will be restricted in line with Covid guidelines, so early booking is advisable. KILNAUGHTIN ALTAR PROJECT

Progress to date: Back in 2019, the Kilnaughtin Church & Graveyard Committee in Tarbert launched a fundraising appeal to raise €20,000 for its altar shelter project. Despite all the challenges of Covid 19, including being unable to have any graveyard Masses in 2020 or 21, 69 people donated €15,000 towards the project. We have spent €14,000 locally on the first four phases that included:1. Site preparation and laying the foundations 2. Building the structure 3. Completing the exterior walls in local stone. 4. Putting on the roof with the world renowned Valentia Island slate. All of the above has been done under the supervision of Kerry County Council and in line with their requirements and the planning permission conditions. A massive big thank you to everyone who has contributed to date, both financially and/ or with ‘donations in kind’. What needs to get done? • Phase 5 – The Internal finish. In line with the high standards followed to date we need to raise €5000 as per the original projections back in 2019. Despite the inflationary cost of building materials during the past year, we are confident that the project will be completed on time and within budget. CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our pod of positivity. It is here you will find little tips and tools that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude as well as all the information on dóTerra’s powerful essential oils. Surrendering Pain – Emotionally and Physically. This week we look at dóTerra’s blend of Deep Blue, which is generally used for physical discomfort, but it can also assist individuals who are resisting or avoiding emotions that underlie their physical discomfort. Deep Blue reduces inflammation and eases back pain and tension by providing targeted soothing comfort. It assists in the treatment of fibromyalgia and is extremely popular in assisting a growing child during their growth spurts. If you work on a computer, I always recommend rubbing Deep Blue mixed with your carrier oil on to your fingers, wrists, neck, and shoulders to provide a cooling and comforting massage. As mentioned above, Deep Blue works on the emotions and is a soothing oil to use if one is going through heartbreak or grief. Deep Blue can also be diffused in a cold-water diffuser, and I recommend dóTerra’s Petal Diffuser which can be purchased from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity. LISTOWEL SCRATCH CUP 2021

On Saturday 4th September, 104 competitors took to the course which was in great condition to see who would win the three men categories and the women’s category. The competition was split into three sessions to accommodate the great support we had from clubs all over the country such as Trim, Mallow, Bruff, Rocklodge, Newmarket, Killarney, Collins, Ballinlough, Ardnacrusha, Castleisland, Tralee, Cill Na Mona, Drimoleague, Raffern Creek, Kilshannig & Ringscommon. After session 1 the gauntlet was laid down with a super score of 19 under par by senior player John McGrath from the Deerpark club in Killarney. Conditions were favorable in the morning as the weather was not as hot as the rest of the days play and the greens were rolling a lot slower. In the Intermediate section a very good score of 11 under par from the Cill Na Mona player Dermot Tuohy was registered. Another benchmark was set for all the other intermediate players to achieve. The Junior category saw Mike Cooper from Castleisland return home a good score of 3 under par for him to take the lead in the clubhouse. Session two was the busiest of all the three sessions and had top players from all over the country starting out their 36 holes to try and reach the high scoring that was recorded in the previous session. A strong contingent from Limerick club, Bruff started off the session but Thomas Hanley came in the best from that club with a final score of 10 under par. Tralee player Jason O’Regan who was successful here in the past was battling hard but came in shy of the target and returned to the clubhouse on 13 under par. Next 3-ball out on the course which was hugely followed by many spectators was two local Listowel players, youngster Jake Shine & Declan McCarron and Collins player John, John Walsh who has won everything in the game. A super 36 holes by all three players, but it was the young gun Jake Shine who won the 3-ball returning on a score of 18 under par. Enough to lead the Intermediate and just beating John Walsh on 17 under par. The women were out in force also which is fantastic to see and local players Jennifer O’ Connell and mom Cynthia Kelly which battled hard and returned good scores but, in the end, the winning lady was from Bruff, Margaret O’Donovan who returned to the clubhouse with a very good score of 10 over par. Runner up lady went to Deerpark’s Betty O’Brien. Session 3 seen the Co. Meath players from Trim take to the course. The three Gibney brothers. Chris Gibney living local playing alongside his brothers Mark & Declan. It wasn’t to be for the Gibney brothers but was fantastic to see the support from such a far distance, much appreciated lads. Conditions were a lot tougher in the evening with greens running a lot faster than the morning but that didn’t affect some of the local players doing a score on the course in this session. John Noel O’Connor in the Junior category shot the lights out and returned home with 12 under par to shatter the leading score of 3 under by Mike Cooper earlier in the day to win the Junior grade. Tralee player Alan Hobbart played exceptionally well and finished with 18 under par which seen him take the senior grade as John McGrath 19 under par was enough to win the overall prize. A fantastic day of Pitch & Putt was had by all and the scoring on the day was exceptional. Thanks to everyone who supported the club by playing today and the few that paid up and didn’t play also, much appreciated. Well done to all the winners. Well, that’s all fine and dandy if we were only talking about a cap,. But what we want to think about this week is how can our clothes in our wardrobes help to keep our motivation strong and our weight loss and wellness journey going.

This is now the time of the year, and more so with the change of season, we are having to maybe sort out our wardrobe and change around the clothes that are in there at the moment. For example, are there clothes in there that are too light, too white, too Summery, too BIG, too SMALL or just not quite fitting you right yet etc? Think about it......

How often do we look in the wardrobe and say “I’ve nothing to wear” Clothes are something that can help us to keep our weight loss going. A bit like the carrot and the stick. The CARROT being to get DOWN to a smaller size and the STICK being not having to go UP to the bigger size. We are all guilty of hoarding and holding on to stuff, so take out the clothes that are too big for you and get rid of them, otherwise you will only be thinking sure I will always find something to fit if I gain weight again, so our advice would be to get RID, RID, RID The type of clothes you wear can help or hinder your Weight loss .It’s usually your clothes that’ll be the first thing you notice as you start losing or gaining weight. Avoid wearing elasticated waistbands ALL of the time because they grow with you while an item of clothing with a waistband will always give you the pinch or the credit when it’s due. Next, take a look at what’s not quite fitting right yet, and keep those where you will see them. That would remind you every time you open the wardrobe of what you want to achieve. The most important thing is that we should feel good in the clothes that we “ want “ to wear, and not just “ have “ to wear something because we have no choice and it will have to do.. Decluttering the wardrobe is like de-cluttering the mind, and that has to be good for our overall well being too. Upcoming events like Christmas for example can be a great motivator for us to keep us inspired on how we want to look and feel when we are dressed up. After all when you feel good about yourself on the inside,no matter what you wear it will sparkle through on the outside. So, now we hope you will be busy sorting out the wardrobe over the week, but think about the satisfaction you will get every time you open the doors, knowing that you can put your hand on anything and every thing you love. We at San Rita Wellness would often encourage our members to look beyond the number on the scales and focus on their changing body shape. Clothes are really a great indicator of the progress our members are seeing and feeling and also are a great motivator. A new Defibrillator is needed in Ballylongford as the current one on the Church gate, adjacent to the Parish Hall is not working and has reached the end of its lifespan as it will be ten years old soon. It is of the utmost importance that we have a working defibrillator in the town and this fundraiser is being organised by The Ballylongford Enterprise Association who are hoping to raise the necessary funds, to purchase a new modern defibrillator with a cabinet, with accompanying pads and the relevant equipment that is required and also to have the funds to retain the first responders in the area and also train new first responders. The sooner the funds are raised and we can get this lifesaving equipment the better as it will be out in the public eye ready for use should it be required and it will not be locked away. It will be erected in the same area which will be very close to the Ballylongford national school. The Enterprise Association are hoping to raise €6,000 euro and are asking kindly for donations of any amount please. We all know how important this lifesaving equipment is and especially considering the distance to the nearest hospital from the area, therefore a defibrillator is vital in saving lives. We have many members of our community with heart conditions and some with stints bypasses etcetera etc. However, it is not just people with underlying conditions who may need the use of this lifesaving equipment as anyone in the community may need it including our children as heart problems, SADS and other medical conditions could affect everybody including our children. Even the most healthiest of people could require the use of this equipment to save their lives, the shocking scenes where professional footballer and super fit Christian Ericsson at the European Championships suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch only to be saved by the use of a defibrillator further highlighted that nobody knows when they may need the use of a Defibrillator. So, if you could please donate to such a worthy cause it would be greatly appreciated by everyone in the community and there is nothing too small as everything helps. This Fundraiser is organised by the Ballylongford Enterprise Association who have done magnificent work in our community. Such as purchasing the creamery and selling it for a profit of over 200,000 and out of this money the Parish Hall was fully refurbished and modernised with an elevator for those with disabilities, the elevator costs over €1,000 a year to run and maintain. The old fire station (O’Sullivan’s Hardware Shop) was also purchased by the group. This is one of the many works that the Enterprise Association has done for the town. The Enterprise Association runs the Oyster Festival every year but unfortunately due to Coronavirus this has not taken place since 2019 but hopefully will return in 2022. The Enterprise is currently in the process of constructing a war of independence walk in the town with the plaques currently under construction with some ready to be erected. The Ballylongford Enterprise Association and the Chairman of the Association Noel Lynch is appealing for everybody’s help and would like to say thank you for any donations which would be greatly accepted. BLACKSMITHING FAIR The first event at Ballylongford Mill, will be the forthcoming Ballylongford Blacksmithing Fair which will be held over the weekend of 25th-26th September 2021. There will be blacksmithing displays in the Creamery and grounds from Forged in Ireland and guest Blacksmiths, vintage tractors, hand forged and old wares for sale, food and refreshments

and roving musicians. The Blacksmiths that will be demonstrating throughout the weekend are from Forged in Ireland, a group of Irish craftsmen of all levels who teach and share their knowledge of blacksmithing, bladesmithing, knife making, metal art, tinsmithing, metallurgy and related metal working crafts. This will be a family friendly weekend with entertainment for the kids; admission is €5 for adults with children under 16 free. Come along and see Ireland’s best Blacksmiths all in one place, and all proceeds will go towards repairs to the roof of Ballylongford Mill. The Planning Application for restoration and redevelopment of the Mill site is currently going through Kerry County Council, with work on the Mill and grounds set to start mid next year. This will be a family friendly weekend with entertainment for the kids; admission is €5 for adults with children under 16 free. Lenamore took the lead in the first 10 minutes by a beautiful chip shot by Michael Holly which went in off the post. Two goals either side of half time gave Windmill the lead with 25 minutes remaining in the game. However, up stepped Michael Holly with 4 more sublime goals all from open play to win us the game. Two dribbles by Mike ended in goals, a half volley shot and a 25 yarder in the top corner. A great start to the season. Well done to all the players and to the management Tony and Brendan. A very competitive game by both teams on the day made for great entertainment. John and Timmy played for both clubs but there was no doubting the will of the crowd were with Newtown. The scoreline at half time was 1 - 1 only thanks to some heroic defending by the Newtown defence, the Moyvane side could have been in trouble. In the second half Newtowns endeavour propelled them to a 4 - 1 win while Lenamore started to bring on the old guard players who played with John in the early noughties which was lovely to see. We would like to thank the referee Adrian Grimes and his assistants Thomas Sheehy and Tom O Sullivan who did a very professional job, the stewards Gary Foran, Pat Kennelly, Mike Hanrahan, Rory Dennehy and David Murphy. A big thanks to Padraig “Shico” Sheehy for providing sound & music and Jumbos for providing beverages. John Stack did an outstanding job taking some incredible shots of the day. A big thanks also to the managers who had their teams well prepared for the game Micheal Dennehy and Tony Fennell for Lenamore and John Scanlon and Noel Lyons for Newtown. The club ticket seller Jack Fennel did a great job selling tickets for our Split the Pot Fundraiser. We are also delighted to inform everybody that a huge sum of €1726.60 was donated by attendees on the day which will be given to the ICU ward in Limerick University Hospital by the Noonan family. To all the children who took penalties at half time, it brought a great sense of enjoyment to the day. Again a big thank you to everybody who attended the game. U9/U11; The U9 hurlers travelled to Abbeydorney on Friday night to play Abbeydorney. Two teams lined out and played some very nice hurling, again putting everything they are learning in training into practice. The U11s played Parnell’s on Friday evening and put in an enthusiastic performance in front of a home crowd. It’s great that these players have the opportunity to play some games as the season is winding down. U14: Well done to the U14 hurlers who had a great win against Lixnaw on Friday. BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS Relegation Playoff: Our Senior football team preserved their status in the County Premier Junior Football Championship when they defeated Firies, 2 – 12 to 0 – 16 in Connolly Park, Tralee on Saturday evening last in the 2020 relegation playoff. Goals from Mikey Boyle and Kevin Goulding were decisive, but it was essentially a team effort that won the day. Ballyduff clicked into gear after a close start and led by eight points approaching half-time and then Luke Rochford struck for a well take goal and the defending champions took a 1 – 12 to 0 – 5 lead into the half-time interval. Ballyduff received a major blow on the restart when Evan Boyle had to be replaced following an accidental head wound and having already lost Killian Boyle and Jack Enright in the first half it was backs to the walls time. However, the boys continued to play some excellent hurling and were deserving winners in the end on a final scoreline of 1 – 20 to 0 – 10. They will play St. Brendan’s in the final on a date and venue to be decided. Annual income was €69,789 and Expenditure was €69,815 resulting in a break-even situation even though income was down €16,533 on 2019 figure due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. Accounts for the first 6 months of this year up to 30 June2021 indicate a targeted break-even for the end of the year taking into account the refunds and on-going financial supports. Revenue for this 6 month period was €36,474 and Expenditure was €31,454 leaving a surplus of €5,020. The monthly Maintenance Fund has facilitated painting of the Marian Shrine in the Square, purchase of a power washer, painting in the Church and the replacement of a porch door. At weekend Masses, Dr Declan Downey, on behalf of the Parish Finance Committee thanked parishioners at home and abroad for their continuing generosity in supporting St Mary’s Church in these difficult times. He also thanked Parish Secretary, James Lavery for his work and commitment and all who were helping in any way to making St Mary’s Church the spiritual heart and central sacred space in the parish. OUR GOODBYES For those of us who live in the Moyvane/Knockanure area we have had a horrendous eighteen months. We have had 39 funerals since January 01 2020. Our most recent funeral was that of Margaret Leahy, Carrueragh. She is survived by her sons and daughters, Paddy, Willie, Eileen (Costello), Assumpta (Stack) and Jim. Margaret had a long life, living into her nineties. She was predeceased by her husband Emmet. Timmy Carr of Barragougeen passed away on August 21. He is survived by his brother, Joe and his wife Eileen and family. Timmy was a quiet man who lived alone. He had moved to live in the village but farmed his land at Barragougeen every day. Sympathy to both families. May they rest in peace. TRIBUTE: In the early hours of the morning of Saturday, August 21 Eileen Cronin of Mail Road Cross slipped out of this world to join her husband Mike Joe who passed away one year and five months earlier. Her death came as a huge shock to the parish of Moyvane and indeed the whole of North Kerry. She was a great one for recitations, particularly Kerry and Moyvane football ones and of course the songs. In the sixties and seventies she was part of the local drama group and

FERRY SAILINGS The Autumn schedule for Shannon Ferry came into operation from Wednesday 1 September which means that sailings from Tarbert to Killimer in Clare will be every hour on the half hour from 7.30am to 8,30pm daily Monday to Saturday with Sunday sailings commencing 2 hours later. Sailings from Killimer to Tarbert will be every hour on the hour from 7am to 8pm. CLOTHES COLLECTION The Shannonside Women’s Group will hold a clothes collection on Thursday 14 October. was the recipient of many best actress awards at the Drama Festivals. The highlight of course was playing the Peacock and Abbey theatres in Dublin. Eileen was a great community person and was generous with her time. She was involved in running Moyvane Bingo for more than forty years and was really popular with the bingo goers. They positively adored Eileen. She was funny and was kind and helpful to everyone. She was the keeper of the money and by God was she good at that! Without her there would be no Marian Hall, the community centre would not have it’s new roof and there were many other organisations in the parish that benefited from Moyvane Bingo and Blotto. She was reliable, honest and never looked for praise, she got on with the job in her own quiet way. There will never be another Eileen and Bingo will never be the same again. Sleep easy lady, you will never know how much you are missed. and our under 12 Girls soccer teams travelled to face the might of Munster in the University of Limerick!! First up was our hurling team who more than matched the very skilful Tipperary side Boherlahan - Dallaglio and with a bit more luck in front of goal might have pulled off the shock that their performance deserved. It wasn’t to be for our Mighty Men on this occasion but the future is extremely bright for these young stars!! On an action-packed morning attention then moved to our young under 12 Girls soccer team who despite a lot of nerves and inspired by the boys earlier, put in a huge display against a much more experienced club team from Waterford. Having conceded a goal late in the first half and with our Goalie and defence putting in Superhero efforts at times it didn’t look as though it was going to be our day. But in the last minute of normal time, we scored a goal to force extra time with much joy and emotion and possibly could have won it late in normal time. Unfortunately, the girls’ journey came to an end in extra time but they must remember it is only the start of an incredible few years to come!!! Straight from the kick off Kenmare attacked and an excellent shot beat Oisín Stack in goals, 2-2 but this Listowel team didn’t drop the heads and again pushed to get the winner. Michael Carmody, Cian Moloney and Liam Flaherty wouldn’t let anyone past them in defence with Thomas Keane really starting to come into his own, a goal was coming all day for him and finally he got what all his hard work deserved when he latched onto a through ball and finished calmly to the net, 3-2. Listowel weren’t happy to sit back any time Kenmare tried to attack, either Kyle McNicholas or Cian Lynch were there to stop them. Again Listowel found a gap in the Kenmare defence to which Thomas Lynch ran though to finish to the bottom corner, 4-2 Listowel and this was the way the game would finish. A massive effort was put in by every single player who took to the field today for Celtic, from 1 to 12 everyone played an important part . It was an extremely hard match to give anyone person a man of the match as there was so many to pick from but after a lot of deliberation we decided on Cian Moloney who throughout the game was excellent in the centre of the Listowel defence. Congratulations to all involved, in what was a great victory. We now play St Brendans Park in the final this evening Friday 10th September. Lios Tuathail Ac athletes on fire… Kevin Lynch closed off a long season with a double at the National Master Championship with Gold in the 200m and 400m in Santry last Sunday. Good to see club coach leading by example. On Saturday, Club athletes were representing their respective school in the Munster qualification for the Taitlteann Games. Rachel Neylon was in impressive form in winning Gold in the 300m with a commanding run. Rachel also won Bronze in the 800m. Padraic McCarthy continue his good performance with Gold in the Discus and Silver in the Shot Putt. Louis oConnell was most unlucky to finish the day with fourth in the 100 and 200m. Brendan oLeary also ran in the sprints but was outside the medal positions. Rachel and Padraic goes on this weekend to represent Munster at the All Ireland Schools in Santry with the possibility of selection to the Irish school team. Result: Under 12 Boys Plate Semi Final Listowel Celtic (Team 3) 4 2 Inter Kenmare AET Another thrilling day of soccer at Pat Kennedy Park as our Boys took on Inter Kenmare in the semi final of the Under 12 Plate last Saturday. Listowel tipped off on what was a very warm day and from the off we were on the front foot attacking from the start with Tadgh Dalton and Michael O’ Sullivan controlling the centre of midfield and spreading the ball wide to Ryan McDonnell and Shane Costello to attack down the sides of the Kenmare defence. With all Celtics good play we found it very hard a break down what was a strong Kenmare defence. Thomas Keane was doing well up front but finding it hard to get through. Inter started to get a small bit more into the game with the home side getting frustrated at been blocked on the edge of the Kenmare box, then all of a sudden Kenmare took a shot which hit the bottom corner of the Listowel net despite Oisín Stack getting a hand to it, a sucker punch to the home side.

Straight from the tip off Listowel were on the attack again and narrowly missed with a good effort by Thomas Keane. Kenmare again attacked and Oisín Stack pulled off two great point blank saves to keep the home team in it. The Celtic defence of Liam Flaherty, Cian Moloney and Michael Carmody got to grips with the Kenmare attack and stood firm for the rest of the first half. Half time Listowel 0 -1 down. The second half started well for Listowel with a high press on the Kenmare defence with Shane Costello and Thomas Keane fighting for every ball that came their way. The home team started to get on top all over the pitch with Cian Moloney at centre back stopping all the Kenmare attack. The chances started to flow with Listowel narrowly missing the goal on several occasions through Thomas Keane, Tadgh Dalton, Shane Costello, Cian Moloney and Ryan McDonnell. Then the break through came down the left hand side after Michael O’ Sullivan broke down an attack, got the ball to Tadgh Dalton who set up Ryan McDonnell to put the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the Kenmare net. 1-1 and game on. Listowel started to make the pitch wider to stretch the Kenmare rearguard which gave the industrious Thomas Keane and Tadgh Dalton chances but unfortunately couldn’t find the back of the net. Full time final score 1-1 and into extra time we went. Kyle McNicholas came on for Ryan McDonnell on the left. Straight from the kick off Listowel attacked down the left, the ball was crossed into box and Shane Costello caught the ball on the volley to put Celtic 2-1 up.

BEALE GAA

Beale seniors were defeated by Kilgarvan in the first round of the County Junior Club Championship on Sunday. Played in ideal conditions, we were slow to settle into the game while Kilgarvan hit the ground running with direct, route-one football, kicking over some fine points. Our free taking kept us in touch and, at the short whistle, we were just two points adrift, 0-6 to 0-8 We hit a purple patch on the changeover, raising the green flag. Another goal from the penalty spot put us ahead by four points. However, we didn’t drive on from there and our opponents eroded our lead. Both teams ended up with 14 players, each having a player sent to the line on a red card. Kilgarvan finished stronger and we ended up on the wrong side of the score line, 2-12 to 1-17. We play Moyvane in the next round in Páirc de Staic on Sunday at 2.30. Our final round game will be against Sneem/Derrynane on the last weekend in

September. North Kerry minors contest Group A of the County Championship which begins on the weekend of 18th/19th September. We wish Robert Stack and Joe Finch and team mates the best of luck. Mid Kerry, Laune Rangers and South Kerry are also in this group. Spectators were treated to great displays of skill by young footballers in the annual Eóin Griffin Memorial tournament on Saturday. Played in glorious sunshine, our under-10s played Asdee/Bally in one semi-final, while Tarbert and Ballydonoghue battled it out in the other semi-final. Beale and Tarbert served up a thrilling display in the final in a superb game. Little separated the teams right through. In a very exciting finish, Tarbert held on for a two-point victory, 2-3 to 2-5. The proud Tarbert captain was presented with the trophy by our Kerry minor, Robert Stack. Special thanks to referees, Patrick O’Sullivan and James Buckley. The Griffn family is synonymous with Beale GAA and we are grateful for their support of the annual tournament in memory of Eóin. His passion for football was fierce and Eóin enjoyed playing for his school, Kilconly, and club, Beale. Eóin is dearly missed by his loving family and large circle of friends and neighbours. We are proud that his memory lives on in the annals of Beale GAA. This week’s Beale Lotto numbers drawn were 3, 7, 8 and 26. Results: Junior Club Championship Round 1: Knocknagoshel 2:14 Duagh 1:11 Knocknagoshel hosted near neighbours Duagh on Saturday evening in the first round of the junior club championship with the game being in the melting pot up until the final few minutes. Mike Keane got Knocknagoshel off the mark with a point in the first minute, but this was quickly cancelled by Duagh with a point of their own. Niall Barrett and James Walsh got a point each for Knock but again Duagh replied with two points to level matters. Mike Keane got another point just before the water break to put Knock one ahead at the end of the first quarter. Knock got off to a flying start in the second quarter with two points from Edmund Walsh and a pointed free from James Walsh. Both team’s swapped points with John O Keeffe slotting over the final point of the half to give Knocknagoshel a two-point lead at the short whistle. Half time score Knocknagoshel 0:08 Duagh 0:06. Duagh got off to flying start in the third quarter with three points but Knocknagoshel’s centre back Mike Walsh, kicking an outstanding point on the run keeping the scoreboard level. Knock finished the quarter well with two points from Edmund and John Walsh to give the home side a two-point advantage. It was in the final quarter when this local derby really came to life with 3 goals, 3 black cards and a red card all happening in the 15 plus minutes. Duagh got the first point, but Edmund Walsh replied with two points from play. A high ball into the Knocknagoshel square caused panic for the home side and the ball finished up in the net to bring Duagh right back into the game. Edmund Walsh pointed from a free on the 60 minute with a lot of added time to be added. A great run up the side-line by John Bell who kicked the ball in towards the Duagh goals resulted in Knock captain Shane O Connell getting on the end of it and blasting into the back of the Duagh net to put Knock in the driving seat. The next score of the game once again came from Shane O Connell as he kicked a high ball into the Duagh square which caught the keeper off his line and finished up in the net to put this game beyond Duagh. Duagh did get one point back before the final whistle, but it was The Mall of Knocknagoshel who were celebrating at the final whistle and this victory gets them off to a great start in this tough junior championship group. Congratulations: 2020 Junior Premier Championship final took place Sunday September 5th in Austin Stack Park. Ballydonoghue came out victorious over Gneeveguilla after what is been quoted as being one of the best games of football in the county in a long time. After extra time and an unbelievable game of football the final score was Ballydonoghue 3-20 (39) to Gneeveguilla 3-18(27). Well Done to all the Ballydonoghue team and management. Everyone in the Parish is so proud of you all. Well done and congratulations also to Paul Kennelly on receiving the man of the match award on the day. The U15s closed out their McElligott Oils North Kerry league recently when they played Knocknagoshel/Brosna. The combination side were too strong on the day.

Congratulations to Bally/Asdee/B’donoghue/C’macon Minors on winning the North Kerry Minor League 2021. Well done to all involved.

The U13s closed out their county league involvement with a strong win over Dromid/Waterville two weeks ago. They played in a very strong group for phase 2 and showed to be competitive throughout. Next up will be the Tommy Madden tournament with an opening game against our neighbours Listowel Emmets on Sunday the 19th. The U11s will play two games this week to kick off their North Kerry League series. First up is Brosna on Monday night and then Tarbert on Thursday night. Our U9s will commence phase 2 of the Go Games this week with a game away to Castlegregory. Next up will then be Brosna at home.

Congratulations to North Kerry Club Ballydonoghue Ballydonghue were crowned winners of the Kerry Petroleum 2020 Junior Premier Club Championship on a score line of Ballydonoghue 3-20 (29) v Gneevguilla 3-18 (27) after extra time. This was one of the best games of football that has been played for a long time in the eyes of the neutral. It took extra time to separate these two teams, but in a dramatic finish were a goal from Paul Kennelly from the penalty spot and in the final moments of extra time Ballydonoghue spilt the posts for that insurance point which gave the North Kerry men the two point advantage at the final whistle. Ballydonoghue will have little time for celebrations, as they now take their place int he Intermediate Championship alongside, Dromid Pearses, Kilcummin and John Mitchells and are out again on this Sunday against John Mitchells in the first game of the group stages.
