17 FROM THE ‘70S - AN EXHIBITION BY LISTOWEL’S KIERAN MOLONEY
17 from the ‘70s – an Exhibition of signed Black & White Photographs, from the private collection of Kieran Moloney. Kieran worked as a professional photographer in Chicago for over 20 years and, as a frequent, local visitor to Listowel Writers’ Week, he captured both the photographs and the autographs of these local characters. The exhibits originally featured at an event as part of a fundraising initiative to support the establishment of the Kerry Writers’ Museum. The seventeen photos featured in this unique exhibition tell the story of the early contributors to Listowel Writers’ Week and, from gracing the walls of Kieran’s offices in Chicago, they now grace the walls of the Kerry Writers’ Museum. This exhibition is available to view at Kerry Writers’ Museum from Culture Night, September 17th 2021 onwards. Listowel Writers’ Week is planning to host an event to celebrate the photographer and his work in the coming weeks - date to be announced. Check out our Facebook page for updates https://www.facebook.com/writersweek/ or phone 068 21074.
LISTOWEL TIDY TOWNS UPDATE
The Listowel Tidy Towns group would like to thank everyone who participated in this years local competitions and were overwhelmed with the standard of the entrants. It has been a difficult two years for everyone and the effort people have made is obvious to the human eye, giving the judges a very difficult task this year, as everyone deserved to be a winner. Due to the Covid regulations the usual Local Awards night, which is usually held in September is being extended until after the 22nd of October when most of the remaining Covid restrictions are expected to be lifted. All winners and runners-up will be revealed on the night. On behalf of the group Jackie (PRO) would like to say a special ‘thank you’ to all their sponsors, who never fail to come up trumps and generously support us every year. Without their help these competitions could not go ahead. It was good to see the National Tidy Towns competition return this year having been cancelled in 2020 when the dreaded covid hit Ireland and lockdown was introduced. The Listowel Tidy Towns group would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous work carried out throughout covid lockdown and after. We would like to thank KCC, its ground staff and our scheme workers and our local businesses, many who gave their shop fronts a facelift as of late. While this years National Competition went ahead the results will not be made known until November. In the meantime we are delighted to see our town coming back to life. It is important to remember to continue to adopt a good civic attitude at all times. Everyone has been brought into the theme of “Tidy Towns” and hopefully this theme will continue into the future.

The Kingdom and the Royal County win out in the style stakes on the opening day of the LISTOWEL HARVEST RACING FESTIVAL Glorious sunshine welcomed back racegoers for the first time in two years to the Listowel Harvest Racing Festival which started last Sunday 19th and runs for 7 days until this Saturday. In addition to serious racing and serious fun, racegoers also had the opportunity to sartorially compete off the track in the style stakes as Listowel Races hosted an additional Best Dressed Event - the Most Stylish Racegoers kindly sponsored by McElligotts Tralee and Honda Ireland. Benny O’Keeffe from County Meath and Miriam Prendergast from Killarney - were selected by fashion blogger and judge Emily O’Donoghue aka @fashionablyfortyish as the overall winners and each received a €400 cash prize. Benny wore a sky blue suit he purchased in Burtons, paired with a merl grey waistcoat, set off with a soft pink shirt cleverly co-ordinated with a pink and grey check tie. He purchased his very dapper hat in the Ukraine. Miriam wore a black bustier wide legged jumpsuit with belt, styled with a very feminine one sleeve off white blouse with ruched details. She both designed and made the outfit herself and paired it with a headpiece she loaned from a friend who got it in MacBees Killarney. She finished her look with a pretty vintage bag. The runners up in the ladies category each received a generous hamper from McElligotts Tralee (with special thanks to McGuires Pharmacy Listowel). The runners up in the gents category received tickets to the Sunday of the June Bank Holiday race meeting in Listowel in 2022. Of course, there is more to come in the style stakes with one of Ireland’s most prestigious best dressed events - the McElligotts Honda Ladies Day - making a most welcome return this year to the racecourse on Friday 24th of September. Judged by style icon Celia Holman Lee, it has an overall cash prize fund of €1,000 and the winner will also receive the most amazing beauty hamper sponsored by McGuires Pharmacy. CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips and tools that help us to maintain a life of Health, Wellness, Love, and Gratitude as well as all the information on dóTerra’s powerful Essential Oils. This week we look at dóTerra’s Clary Sage as we enter the Autumn Equinox and the emotional benefits it can have on our body and minds as well as the physical benefits it brings to us. This beautiful oil assists us in changing our perceptions and allows us to remain open to the possibility of new ideas, new projects, and new perspectives. It helps us in opening creative channels and clearing creative blocks while eliminating distractions from the mind. Clary Sage is also a very spiritual oil and one of the finest oils for the brow chakra as it dispels darkness and encourages individuals to see their limiting beliefs. Clary Sage dates to the Middle Ages and it includes relaxing and soothing properties that can help with the rejuvenation and calming of the skin. It is also a beautiful body balancing essential oil. When Clary Sage is diffused in any one room of your home, office, school, or work place it adds to a relaxing environment. DóTerra’s Clary Sage can also be taken internally and can be a great natural aid to promote a restful night’s sleep. Many people like to mix it with cooled boiled water and spray it onto the bed linen & curtains before they go to sleep. During a menstrual cycle, Clary Sage can be applied and massaged to the abdomen area for a soothing relief and is very popular amongst teenagers. It is very relaxing when added to a warm bath on its own or with dóTerra’s Roman Chamomile and provides a stress-relieving soak.

Clary Sage can also be added to your shampoo and hair conditioner to promote healthy hair and scalp and works great with dóTerra’s Rosemary and Lavender essential oils. The Clary Sage plant can grow up to six feet in height and is steam distilled from the flower part of the plant. DóTerra’s Clary Sage can be purchased from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity, and you can reach me on the number below to place your orders. One to one consultations and small group appointments are also available. As an advocate for dóTerra’s essential oils I know how the oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood, and over the last year and a half, I’m delighted and so grateful to have been able to help so many people in starting their oily journey with DóTerra. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our Family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression. These oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin with or without a carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing a two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And the third way, internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop under the tongue daily. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our Family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. For extra positivity and well-being, check out our Facebook page where we have information and videos on all dóTerra’s essential oils. I look forward to returning to our weekly Lives, along with Master Brody’s Lives on Monday nights. My addition of ‘Caroline’s Fashion Fix’ every Friday night @9pm on Facebook is a must for all ladies to join, where I’ll be bringing you the latest Autumn Winter collection from the French label Captain Tortue in our private group page. Until next time, I leave you with our thought for the week, ‘Be Strong, Be Different, Be You and Create Your Own Happiness’ Caroline X Tel: 087 292 1292 Email: carolinedhorgan@gmail.com

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column… We hope you are all safe and well.
As restrictions are being more relaxed it gives us more control of what we want to do or where we want to go. This has a positive impact on our overall health and well being. But at the same time there are many things that we may need to continue keeping control over to achieve a healthy lifestyle. So let us take a look at a few of those :
BOOK OF THE WEEK in association with
Woulfes Bookshop Listowel’s Only Dedicated Bookshop
FOOD Now that routine is coming back again with all of the schools reopened, establish your own meal time routine again. Plan your meals in advance and batch cook as this can leave you feeling more organised especially if you are working from home Try out some new recipes as variety is the spice of life.... Safefood.ie, and Bord Bia have some nice recipe and meal ideas Just be mindful of the extra foods and treats you may have in your home as you may be inclined to buy that bit extra to treat yourself . TREATS Don’t let the treats become a threat. There are other ways to make yourself feel better such as buying yourself a book or a magazine, treat yourself to a lovely body lotion or a nice bottle of your favourite perfume. Have a pamper night where you can have a relaxing bath, paint the nails or apply a rejuvenating face mask. ALCOHOL Limit your alcohol to the weekend’s. That way it can be something you can look forward to. There are also low calorie options available in the alcohol also, such as light beers, low alcohol wine and add your diet and slimline minerals as mixers for spirits. WEEKENDS Plan your weekends and stick to your plan. It’s important not to let your guard down too much then just because it’s the weekend. Remember after all there are 52 weekends in the year With Mother’s Day this Sunday ask your family for something else rather than chocolates, such as a pampering gift or a lovely scented candle. ACTIVITY The best way to overcome cabin fever is to get out in the fresh air, whether it is to your local park or beach. Being active will benefit you as it is good for the head and will give you a positive attitude so you will feel better. When you Feel better you Think better and then you Eat better. ATTITUDE What is your attitude at the moment? Eat all around you and go out of control OR eat mindfully and stay in control. How we think determines how we feel, how we feel determines what we do next. So think positive, feel positive, be positive. So all of these things we can be IN CONTROL of and the other things that we have NO CONTROL over are being taken care of by people who are IN CONTROL.

THE COASTAL ATLAS OF IRELAND By Robert DeVoy
The Coastal Atlas of Ireland looks at the coastline of the entire island of Ireland as a whole, from the physical, human and environmental perspectives. It contributes towards the dissemination and outreach of scientific knowledge about the coasts of Ireland and of the processes that are shaping them, to the broader public, government and decision makers. The Coastal Atlas of Ireland is a celebration of Ireland’s coastal and marine spaces. Drawing on written contributions from over 100 authors from across the island of Ireland and beyond, the Atlas takes an explicitly all-island approach; though the work has a much wider relevance and potential reader interest.

BALLYLONGFORD BEREAVEMENT Deepest sympathy is extended to Pat and Eileen Lynch and family of upper Well Street on the sad passing of Pat’s sister Joanne Lynch R.I.P. of Aughrim, Moyvane who died recently also to her son Mel, brother Sean, sister Norma, brother-in-law Denis O’Connor, sistersin-law Anne, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, extended family, neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass for Joanne, was celebrated in the Church of the Assumption, Moyvane, on Tuesday morning last followed by interment of ashes in Lislaughtin Abbey Cemetery, Ballylongford. Sincerest sympathy is extended to Johnny McElligott and family of Coolard, Ballydonoghue on the very sad passing of his beloved wife and mother of their three children Margaret R.I.P. who passed peacefully on Thursday last September 16th. Johnny and his beloved wife would be very well known and highly respected in this community as Johnny had worked for over 15 years as Creamery Manager in Kilcolman, and often deputised for the late Creamery Manager Jimmy Hanrahan who was here in Ballylongford. Margaret or Mag as she was most fondly remembered would often accompany Johnny on sociable occasions around the village and became great friends with numerous people in the locality over the years. As great sporting enthusiasts, they would take in many major sporting events such as the Annual Galway and Listowel Race Meetings, local and outside Coursing Meetings and would very seldom miss the National Coursing meeting in Powerstown Park. To her heartbroken family of husband Johnny sons Sean, Jerry and daughter Valerie, grandson James, daughter of the late Peter & Joan McGrath, sister of Mary, sister Noreen, Paddy, Peter, Tom, Bill, Jerry & the late Johnny. Deeply regretted by her loving family, daughters in law Deirdre & Sandra, former colleagues, nephews, nieces, brothers in law, sister in law, neighbours & large circle of friends we extend our deepest sympathies. Funeral took place at St Teresa’s Church, Ballydonoghue on Saturday last 18th September, followed by interment afterwards in Galey Cemetery. May Joanna and Margaret enjoy eternal Peace. DIFIBRILLATOR An URGENT appeal is being made in regards a Fundraiser for a new defibrillator. A go fund me page has been set up which can be found online on the gofundme website by searching for Ballylongford on the website or by searching for new defibrillator needed in Ballylongford. Or at the link Fundraiser by Ballylongford Enterprise Association : New Defibrillator needed in Ballylongford (gofundme.com) . A new Defibrillator is needed in Ballylongford as the current one on the Church gate, adjacent to the Parish Hall is not working and has reached the end of its lifespan as it will be ten years old soon. It is of the utmost importance that we have a working defibrillator in the town and this fundraiser is being organised by The Ballylongford Enterprise Association who are hoping to raise the necessary funds, to purchase a new modern defibrillator with a cabinet, with accompanying pads and the relevant equipment that is required and also to have the funds to retain the first responders in the area and also train new first responders. The sooner the funds are raised and we can get this lifesaving equipment the better as it will be out in the public eye ready for use should it be required and it will not be locked away. It will be erected in the same area which will be very close to the Ballylongford national school. The Enterprise Association are hoping to raise €6,000 euro and are asking kindly for donations of any amount please. We all know how important this lifesaving equipment is and especially considering the distance to the nearest hospital from the area, therefore a defibrillator is vital in saving lives. We have many members of our community with heart conditions and some with stints bypasses etcetera etc. However, it is not just people with underlying conditions who may need the use of this lifesaving equipment as anyone in the community may need it including our children as heart problems, SADS and other medical conditions
18
could affect everybody including our children. Even the most healthiest of people could require the use of this equipment to save their lives, the shocking scenes where professional footballer and super fit Christian Ericsson at the European Championships suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch only to be saved by the use of a defibrillator further highlighted that nobody knows when they may need the use of a Defibrillator. So, if you could please donate to such a worthy cause it would be greatly appreciated by everyone in the community and there is nothing too small as everything helps. This Fundraiser is organised by the Ballylongford Enterprise Association who have done magnificent work in our community. Such as purchasing the creamery and selling it for a profit of over 200,000 and out of this money the Parish Hall was fully refurbished and modernised with an elevator for those with disabilities, the elevator costs over €1,000 a year to run and maintain. The old fire station (O’Sullivan’s Hardware Shop) was also purchased by the group. This is one of the many works that the Enterprise Association has done for the town. The Enterprise Association runs the Oyster Festival every year but unfortunately due to Coronavirus this has not taken place since 2019 but hopefully will return in 2022. The Enterprise is currently in the process of constructing a war of independence walk in the town with the plaques currently under construction with some ready to be erected. The Ballylongford Enterprise Association and the Chairman of the Association Noel Lynch is appealing for everybody’s help and would like to say thank you for any donations which would be greatly accepted. BLACKSMITHING FAIR: DON’T FORGET!! The first event at Ballylongford Mill, will be the Ballylongford Blacksmithing Fair which goes ahead over the coming weekend September 25th to 26th. TARBERT TARBERT NEWS Please note new email address - tarbertnews@outlook.com or telephone Patrick Lynch at 068/36117 on or before 7pm Sunday. DEATHS The death took place of Maureen Thornton (née Flynn) of Brisbane, Australia and Glencullare, Tarbert. Maureen, aged 88 years, was one of 11 children born to Maurice and Mary Ann Flynn in Glencullare. She attended Ballylongford National School and later enrolled in a Cork boarding school. She emigrated to Brisbane in Australia where she spent a number of years as a teaching Principal. She later married Tim Thornton, a teaching colleague who was widowed with four children. She took on the rearing of four step children. She made visits back to her native Tarbert while her parents were alive. Her Requiem Mass and burial took place in Brisbane on Thursday 16 September. Sympathy of the community to her sister Kitty in Mayo, brothers David in USA, Fr Mossy in the UK and Willie in Ballylongford. Sympathy also to her nephews, nieces and the extended Flynn family. Suaimhneas síorai dá h-anam uasal dílis. Sympathy of the community is extended to Finola Wren, Doonard Crescent on the death of her mother Bridget (Dilly) Walsh (née Collins) of Askeaton who died on Sunday 12 September and whose Requiem Mass and burial took place on Wednesday 15 September. She was predeceased by her sister, the late Joan Lavery, Church Street Tarbert. Sympathy to the extended Walsh, Lavery and Collins families. WEDDING BELLS The wedding took place of Katie Holly, daughter of Mike and Jackie Holly of Ballygoughlin, Glin and Seamus Flavin, son of James and Mary Flavin, Ardmore, County Waterford. The Civil Ceremony and Reception was held on Saturday 11 September at the Muckross Park Hotel, Killarney. In accordance with Covid 19 regulations the attendance was limited to 100 guests. The happy couple will reside in Glin. Guímis gach rath ar an mbeirt a phós agus go maire siad i bhfad le chéile. MUIRNE WITH THE CUP While we did not have the Sam Maguire Cup on display we had the next best piece of silverware to see when Muirne Wall and her proud father Shane visited local hostelries last Saturday. Muirne aged 21 was the scrum half on the Munster team which won the Women’s Interprovincial Rugby series sponsored by Vodafone. The only Kerry resident player on the Munster team, Muirne posed for photographs with fans and admirers. Muirne who plays on the Kerry rugby team is pursuing a nursing career in Tralee and we wish her best wishes in her future profession and sporting career.
PEDESTRIAN CROSSING At a meeting of the Listowel Municipal District held on Monday 13 September Councillor Michael Foley raised the question of the traffic congestion in Tarbert and the need for a pedestrian crossing and the need for double yellow lines at the junction of the N69 and N67 roads. During the Summer there is a large volume of vehicular and commercial traffic coming off the Ferry meeting heavy traffic from Limerick heading for Listowel and Ballybunion. It is often hazardous for elderly people to cross the road to access the Post Office and they can often be blindsided with vehicles parked close to the road junctions. The Council agreed to carry out a traffic survey and make a recommendation for funding to alleviate a potentially serious problem. CLOTHES COLLECTION The Shannonside Women’s Group will hold a Clothes Collection on Thursday 14 October in the Church car park from 8am to 10.30am. St Mary’s R.C. Church and St Brendan’s Church of Ireland will benefit from the funding which will be welcome in a time of declining attendances and increased expenditure particularly facing into winter heating bills and Covid 19 costs. Your support would be appreciated. STAYCATION TARBERT Some fifteen teaching colleagues of Pádraig Coolahan visited Tarbert last weekend staying at the Lanterns Hotel. Pádraig took them on a tour of Scattery Island and local sites around Tarbert. Sheila from Ballyconnell, County Cavan said that they were very pleased with their weekend break and looked forward to coming back again. GAA 500 DRAW In the August GAA 500 Draw, Julie Finucane was the winner of the €500 prize while Maurice, Mike and Noel Brosnan won the €50 prize. SEANFHOCAL NA SEACHTAINE ‘Beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach’ - Literally Power will have another day, meaning the defeated or vanquished will rise again. The origin of this saying or seanfhocal go back to Edmond Power of Dungarvan, County Waterford said to have been his last words as he faced the gallows for his part in the Wexford Rising of 1798. Community Games Munster/ Regional Finals results: congratulations to our three Lixnaw athletes who represented Lixnaw and Kerry with pride at last Saturday’s Regional Finals in MTU in Cork. First up in the morning was Isabelle Larkin in the U.10 100m Sprint. Isabelle ran a powerful race in her straight final. She rapidly gained ground as the finishing line came into view, just narrowly missing out on the medals, coming in fifth place. Well done to Isabelle on her performance at this Munster level. It was a great experience for such a young athlete and no doubt we will be hearing more from this talented runner in the future. Second up was Steve Reidy who ran the U.12 100m Sprint at the beginning of the afternoon session. Steve qualified for the final after coming in 2nd in his heat. In no time at all Steve was at the starting line again for his final. A tough battle ensued between the four leading sprinters, who crossed the finish line together, with Steve claiming the silver medal. As first and second place qualifies, Steve will now progress to the Nationals. Last up for Lixnaw was Sprinter Dylan O’Callaghan. Dylan ran the U.14 100m semi-final to finish in 3rd place, allowing him to progress to his final. Again, with little or no time to rest, Dylan was back to the starting line. Dylan powered up the track amid very tough competition to claim the Munster bronze medal for Kerry and Lixnaw. So overall Lixnaw competitors claimed a 2nd, 3rd and 5th place position in what was a unique day for Community Games, as a Munster/Regional Final had never been run before in this athletics competition. Well done to all these athletes for a super performance last Saturday and may there be many more to come. So, on that note, we must now wish Steve Reidy the very best of luck in the U.12 100m Sprint this coming Saturday in Carlow I.T. He will fly the flag for Lixnaw and Kerry one more time at this All-Ireland event. Lixnaw Abú. DUAGH/LYRE COMM. GAMES
Munster Athletics: Last Saturday both the gold and silver medal winners from the Kerry Community Games athletic track competitions went forward to MTU, Cork. Saoirse Dillon was the Duagh/Lyre participant going forward from our area and competed in the u14 100m. In beautiful sunshine Saoirse had a good win in her semi final to earn her a place in the final. The final was a fantastic
race with Saoirse holding the lead until the line with a good dip at the finish to earn her the gold medal and title of Munster champion. Saoirse now goes through along with the silver medal winner to National finals in Carlow next weekend. We would like to wish Saoirse the best of luck in National finals and we are all behind you. This girl always gives 100% to everything she does and has brilliant support in her parents Yvonne and Thomas and brother Cormac. We would like to thank Kerry Community Games for their assistance last Saturday in MTU, Cork especially our own Neilus Collins. National finals: All roads lead to Carlow next weekend for the National Community Games finals. Duagh/Lyre have four participants going forward and we would like to wish them the very best of luck and hope that they enjoy the experience. In the u14 100m Saoirse Dillon, U14 Long Jump Ronan Sheridan, U16 High Jump Luke Sheridan and U12 cycling on grass Kate Sheridan. All participants are no strangers to National finals and we will be cheering ye on. Good luck and we are so proud of your efforts. Munster team events: Last Saturday week UL hosted the Munster Community Games team competitions. Duagh/Lyre represented Kerry in the U12 and U16 age groups in the skittles competition. It was an early start on the road but eager participants were looking forward to their opportunity to compete and represent Duagh/ Lyre and Kerry. First up were the U12 team taking on Limerick in the semi final. First up to throw was Luke Bambury Lawson who took out the complete circle to score an amazing 20 points, the only one from our two teams to do so in the competition. The next throwers were David Watson, Thomas Cahill, Eric Sheehy, Liam Troude, Kate Sheridan and Caoilinn Harte. After the 1st round the team were down 16 points, 2nd round down 34 points, 3rd round brought it back to 18 points, 4th round went ahead by 23 points and the final round won by 32 points. A superb comeback by a young team who kept their cool and nerves and earned a place in the final to take on Tipperary. This was a ding-dong battle of skill, luck and nerves. The team were down 10 points in the 1st round, in the 2nd round down 25 points, in the 3rd round down 32 points, 4th round had managed to claw back 24 points and were only down 8 points going into the final round. Getting off to a great start in round 5 Duagh/Lyre found themselves down 3 points, then up 4 points with only 4 throws between the 2 teams to decide who was going to be crowned Munster champions. Unfortunately, the Tipperary side pulled off two great last throws to win. Duagh/Lyre were presented with silver medals and gave superb performances in both games. The final was nail biting and the team showed fierce determination and guts. Their never die attitude was captivating and inspirational to all who watched. Thanks to all the parents who gave the participants plenty of encouragement and praise throughout the day. Training paid off and they have made fabulous memories along with being the first Duagh/Lyre skittles team to win a Munster medal. It was the first Munster competition for all of this team and we hope there’s more to come. Team: Luke Bambury Lawson, Thomas Cahill, Eric Sheehy, Kate Sheridan, Liam Troude, David Watson and Caoilinn Harte. Coach: Jason Harte. Thanks to Neilus Collins for all the help with training and thanks to Duagh N.S. for use of the yard. Next up was the U16 skittles team who are no strangers to the Munster competition having taken part for three years. This team has stuck together and are a group of great pals with great commitment and have plenty of banter along the way. Duagh/Lyre representing Kerry were drawn to throw against Tipperary. This game was nail biting and tense from start to finish with great throws from Denis Gould, Jack O’Carroll, Aoibhínn Harte, Angharad Cudlipp and Jack Collins. After round 1 down 9 points, round 2 down 27 points, round 3 down 18 points, round 4 up 2 points and round 5 finished with a win by 7 points. The team were ecstatic as it was the first time they had got through to a Munster final in skittles. In the final against Limerick (Caherdavin) the air could be cut, it was so tense, but the team settled down into throwing. After round 1 down 13, round 2 down 16. Things just weren’t going our way with the throws so close to the numbers they were just hopping over them. Round 3 down 30 points, round 4 pulled back 23 points and were just down 7 points going into the 5th and final round. In round 5 Duagh/Lyre started well but the luck was to be with Limerick. Well done to Duagh/Lyre on winning silver, a first for this team and a second silver over the day for Duagh/Lyre, a good return for our area. Thanks to all the parents, supporters and participants for two great games. Team: Denis Gould, Jack O’Carroll, Jack Collins, Angharad Cudlipp and Aoibhinn Harte. Missing on the day: Luke Sheridan and Dermot O’Brien who we would like to congratulate on winning their U17 final with Duagh GAA. Coach: Jason Harte. Thanks to Neilus for helping with training and Duagh NS for the use of the yard. Fab memories for this bunch who have stuck with community games from the start and with one more year left for them here’s looking forward to 2022.

FINUGE GAA
Congratulations to the North Kerry minors on a comprehensive victory over South Kerry in the opening round of the county Minor Championship. Finuge have four players on the squad with three starting Saturday’s game. Well done to Kieran MacKessy, Darragh Conway, Keltyn Molloy and Darren O’Brien! This game was played in Mountcoal with the North Kerry lads in control from the early stages. The half time score was 1-08 to NK against 0-04 for the visitors while the full-time score saw a comprehensive 1-21 to 0-07 scoreline in favour of the North Kerry boys. Special mention also to Enda Galvin who is a selector with the NK team. It is a great to see a bounce coming back into North Kerry football and to have such a strong Finuge involvement throughout!! The Finuge/St Senans ladies got the Senior Club Championship debut off to the best possible start with a big margin of victory over Beaufort! This historic win came almost to the day that they won the Intermediate Championship last year to qualify for senior status. The final scoreline read 6-13 to 1-05 in favour of the Finuge/St Senans ladies - a huge well done to all involved. Our U13s put in a big team display on Sunday morning to emerge as the winners against our neighbours Listowel Emmets in their opening game of the Tommy Madden cup. The final score read 3-05 to Finuge and 1-05 to Listowel. They now play Duagh in the semi-final, Sunday morning at 11:30 in Listowel. Best of luck to all. The senior team came up against a strong Listry side in their round two game in the Junior Premier Championship. This game was played in Listry on Saturday evening, and the home side got off to a flying start leading 1-02 to no score. However, Finuge responded with 1-01 getting back into the game. Unfortunately, Listry would take command with a second goal before half time and see out the game thereafter. Final score was Listry 3-11 to Finuge’s 1-06. Next up is the round three clash with Ballymacelligott. This game will be played Saturday evening at home in Finuge. An important game for both sides who jointly sit bottom of the table - the winner will avoid a relegation playoff. The U11s played Knocknagoshel in the North Kerry phase of the Go Games last Thursday evening in Finuge. Both clubs fielded two teams and it was great to see all players from the two clubs engaged for the full playing time - well done to both clubs for making this happen. If you have a boy or a girl who recently started school or who wishes to try Gaelic football, please contact a club officer on pro.finuge.kerry@gaa.ie or call to the pitch on Wednesday evenings when the U7s and U9s usually train. All newcomers are most welcome!

NORTH KERRY GAA
Keanes Supervalu Minor Championship Rd 1 North Kerry 1.12 v South Kerry 0.07 This game was played in Mountcoal on Saturday evening last under slippery conditions, the home side got off to the better start and remained in control for most of the game, South Kerry were missing some of their starting fifteen due to injury. It was Ger Brosnan North Kerry (Moyvane) who opened the scoring splitting the posts on the 2nd minute, the reply came in the 6th minute from South Kerry Ben O Donoghue (St Marys). An awarded free for North Kerry was converted by Cormac Dillon (Duagh), but the move of the match came with a long ball in by Rory O Mahony (St Senans) to the awaiting Keltyn Molloy (Finuge) who flicked the ball to the back of the South Kerry net with his fist. The North Kerry side were now in control and added three more points from Cormac Dillon (Duagh) (1ptf), Robert Stack Beale (1pt), Darragh Carey (Emmets) (1pt). It took until the 18th minute for the South Kerry men to reply with an awarded free converted by captain Cian O Shea (St Marys). Play resumed after the first quarter water break and it was the home side who kept the scoreboard ticking over with three more points before the half time whistle, a point a piece from Adam Segal (Ballyduff), Rian Quinn (Moyvane) and Darragh Conway (Finuge). South Kerry also added to their tally with two more points from play a point a piece from corner forward Ian O Sullivan (St Michaels/Foilmore) and midfielder Alex Coffey (St Marys). Half time score North Kerry 1.08 v South Kerry 0.04 Second half and as expected the South Kerry men came out fighting and hit a purple patch but failed to convert in front of goal and only managed three points in the second half two from frees and a point from play coming from Donagh O Sullivan (Piarsaigh Na Dromada) and Cian O Shea (St Marys). The North Kerry boys held strong in defence during South Kerrys purple patch and held there lead, but from that point they pushed on to add a further impressive 13 points coming from all over the pitch, with goal keeper Kieran Mackessy (Finuge) kicking an impressive four of those points from 45’s. stand out players from North Kerry were full back Eddie Healy (Listowel Emmets), wing back Rory Mahoney (St Senans), centre back Adam Segal (Ballyduff), mid fielder Robert Stack (Beale), wing forward Jack Sheehan (Tarbert) and centre forward Cormac Dillon (Duagh).
