LISTOWEL TIDY TOWNS ANNOUNCEMENT

Listowel Tidy Towns group take great pleasure in letting you know that Listowel has been invited to attend this year’s Supervalu Tidy Towns National awards ceremony. Folowing a very difficult two years and with a scarcity of volunteers in our group at the moment this invitation came as a surprise to the Tidy Towns group. With over 800 hundred entrants and only 40 groups attending the ceremony, it is truly an honour for Listowel to be one of those groups. Due to government guidelines and adhering to the dreaded Covid restrictions each group will have only two representatives attend on their behalf. Listowel will be represented by Tidy Towns chairperson and present mayor Jimmy Moloney and Secretary Mary O’Hanlon. The event takes place on Friday 12th November and unlike other years it will be held in the RDS and not the usual Helix venue. For those of you who cannot attend and for the very first time, the event will be livestreamed making the ceremony a more inclusive event for the whole community. On behalf of Listowel Tidy Towns group, Jackie (pro) would like to acknowledge all those who contributed in any way in the upkeep of our town and its surrounding area in such difficult times. Your work and commitment has not gone unnoticed and is so appreciated. So now the waiting game begins as we wait and wonder what exactly is in store for us on Friday 12th November in the RDS. What could it be ????? For further information on the livestreaming link keep an eye on Listowel Tidy Towns Facebook page.

CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips and tools that help us to maintain a life of Health, Wellness, Love, and Gratitude as well as all the information on dóTerra’s powerful Essential Oils. DóTerra’s Essential Oils - Supporting our Health, Body & Mind. Over the last year and half, I have brought you lots of information about dóTerra’s essential oils and the benefits they bring in supporting our health, body, and mind. DóTerra is the World Leader in essential oils and wellness products. The essential oils come from plants that are handpicked & harvested by farmers in over 45 countries worldwide. DóTerra now have a plant in Blarney Business Park in County Cork which is the first manufacturing facility outside of the United States and serves as dóTerra’s European Headquarters. They distil many of the oils in this plant and can produce up to 80 bottles a minute! This week we look at Master Brody’s favourite DóTerra essential oil Peppermint and the hero oil called Lavender. Both these oils are from the Family Essentials and the Home Essentials Kits and all dóTerra’s essential oils and products can be purchased from Caroline’s Pod of Positivity by contacting the number below. Peppermint oil has a wide variety of uses and can be used in the treatment for a wide variety of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, digestive issues, nausea and is a great oil to have on hand for common colds and headaches. We love to use peppermint in the mornings as we prepare for school as it increases alertness and focus and gives us a real energy boost. Peppermint invigorates the lungs and opens the airways and is good in relieving sinusitis and allergies. Peppermint can also be used to reduce temperatures by mixing it with a carrier oil in a roller bottle and applying it down along the spine. 1 x drop of dóTerra’s Peppermint essential oil has the same value of 28 cups of Peppermint tea. In our home we love to add it to chocolate recipes when baking and I add one drop to my morning coffee to kickstart my day! DóTerra’s Peppermint Oil retails at €28.70 and is included as one of the top 10 essential oils in both the Family Essentials Kit €150 and the Home Essentials Kit €286 for better savings. Lavender is our next essential oil, and this is our hero oil. It helps us in times of stress and is very soothing due to its high amount of linalyl acetate which provides the benefits of relaxation to the mind and body. Lavender calms the emotions and eases anxiety. It soothes irritated skin and soothes burns and stings. A wonderful oil to relieve baby teething pain and nappy rash and Lavender also promotes hair growth. So, a few drops in the shampoo bottle or even added to your mascara to thicken those lashes. Lavender is a great oil to diffuse at night to aid sleep and invoke feelings of relaxation, you can also apply a drop to the top of the back of the big toe before bedtime. When Lavender is diffused in a cold-water diffuser it stays airborne for 12 hours. Lavender retails at €31.70 and is included as one of the top 10 essential oils in both the Family Essentials Kit €150 and the Home Essentials Kit €286 for better savings. As an advocate for dóTerra’s essential oils I know how the oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood, and I’m delighted and so grateful to have been able to help and support so many people and their families in starting their essential oil journey with DóTerra and my Pod of Positivity. These oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin with or without a carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And the third way, internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop under the tongue daily. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our Family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. For extra positivity and well-being, check out my Facebook page; ‘Caroline’s Pod of Positivity’ where I have information and videos on all dóTerra’s essential oils. My weekly lives are also a great source of information along with Master Brody’s Lives on Monday nights. My addition of ‘Caroline’s Fashion Fix’ on Facebook is a must for all ladies to join, where I’ll be bringing you the latest Autumn Winter collection from the French label Captain Tortue. This beautiful collection promotes wellness for all of us women and Captain Tortue is the Number One European Leader of Fashion sold in the home. MOYVANE AND KNOCKANURE COMMUNITY PLANNING FOR CHANGE

Change is a constant in all our lives, and in Moyvane and Knockanure, we realise that we have to take charge of our community’s progress and development. Our community has adapted to changes in the past, and while we have had ups and downs, over our history, we are proud of our place, and we are committed to building on our heritage, identity, landscape and our wonderful community spirit. Too often, rural communities are on the side-lines – witnessing changes; they see the loss of population, the withdrawal of public services and the closures of local businesses. Yet, rural communities are engines of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Our rural communities make significant contributions to our country. We are bastions of culture, the guardians of natural resources and the suppliers of food and other goods. It is in our interest – locally and nationally to grow and sustain rural populations and to enable rural communities to play a greater role in promoting local and regional resilience and vibrancy. It is a cause of concern, for us, that whilst the population of Ireland has increased by almost 60%, over the past century, the population of Moyvane/Knockanure has decreased by about 27%. In the village of Moyvane, there were about 14 shops selling groceries and other such products in the late 1970s. Today, there are just two! This doesn’t count in other lost services like the chemist, garage and more to the loss of the Post Office and Garda Station in recent years. Building for the Future We in Moyvane and Knockanure are starting a community-led process. We are striving to influence positive changes to shape our communities, so that we and future generations can have a better lifestyle, social and work environment in our area. To this end, we have commissioned Paul O’Raw, who is a facilitator/trainer in guiding us to develop a community plan. We have been generously awarded grant assistance from NEWKD/ LEADER for this purpose. There are 4 community workshops planned to help develop a 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan. The first of these kicked-off successfully on the 12th October. There are 3 further workshops planned for in the near future. Central in making this process work, is getting as many voices and opinions heard, from young to old as possible. Initial discussions and ideas are revolving around 6 themes, with every idea no matter how big or small up for discussion. Any other ideas are very much to be welcomed. These areas of discussion, to date, are: 1. Transition from fossil fuels to low carbon/zero carbon energy. 2. Growing and sustaining our population. 3. Being an age-friendly community. 4. Our environment. 5. Succession and competitiveness of agriculture in our area. 6. Availability of jobs in North Kerry and West Limerick. It is hoped to get as many as possible in our community involved in these discussions. All voices are welcome, and all ideas and suggestions will be warmly received and appreciated. Together, we have the capacity to develop a comprehensive plan that will respond to the needs of the Moyvane/Knockanure area. This shared vision and the resulting development plan will give the community a pathway that will hopefully inspire and help make our community an attractive and sustainable place to live and work not only for ourselves but also for our children in years to come. Come along and get involved There is certainly a sense of excitement and optimism being created by this process. We are encouraging as many people as possible to participate in the community workshops. The workshop setting is very social and relaxed. It is about sharing ideas, and there aren’t any worries about getting a job in the process! There is also a survey that can be completed to give feedback regarding your suggestions and priorities in the community. This has been widely shared in the community and if anyone in the community or our diaspora wants to receive it, it can be forwarded on request by emailing mda@outlook. ie or messaging: 087 6761353. Hard copies of the survey can also be sourced from Moyvane Development Association committee. Dates of upcoming Community meetings in Moyvane Community Sports Hall are as follows: Tuesday, 16th November at 8pm, Saturday 11th December at 12pm and Tuesday 11th January at 8pm These workshops are an opportunity for the people of Moyvane/Knockanure to make suggestions which will help draft a 5-year development plan of the local area and improve the quality of life for everyone. We would like everyone to have their say. Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress and working together to achieve goals of our plans will be a success for everyone.

Until next time, I leave you with our thought for the week, ‘November is the month to be Thankful for all the Positive things happening in our Life’. Caroline X - Tel: 087 292 1292

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…

The term “self-care” has come to mean so much more than spa days and yoga classes. The point of self care is to do something for you - anything that leaves you feeling fresh and rejuvenated. The real question is .... Why is self care so important for us all ? It’s so important to make sure we take care of our body, mind and soul every day and not just when we get sick. Taking good care of ourselves involves making the right food choices, reducing your stress levels, being regularly active and making some “Me Time”. These are some key areas to self care to keep you healthy, fit and resilient. So the next question is why do we often fail when it comes to self care ? Most of us are crazy busy, have stressful jobs or spend too much time with technology to make time for ourselves. “Me Time” is usually last on the agenda.

BOOK OF THE WEEK in association with

Woulfes Bookshop Listowel’s Only Dedicated Bookshop

Church Street, Listowel - T: 068 21021

www.woulfesbookshop.ie / follow us on facebook

What kind of an impact does lack of self care have on you? * Leave you feeling tired or worn out. * You often make poor food choices. * It can also leave you feeling negative about many things especially yourself. * Your self esteem and confidence can be low. * No motivation to achieve your goals. So if one or all of the above apply to you at anytime the next question is, How can you turn things around? Eat right for self-care. The food we eat has the potential to either keep us healthy or contribute to weight gain or diseases such as diabetes, but it can also keep our minds working and alert. Eating the right foods can help prevent memory loss and inflammation, both of which can have long-term effects on the brain and, in turn, the rest of the body. Exercise daily as part of your self-care routine. We all know exercise is good for us. Daily exercise can help you both physically and mentally, boosting your mood and reducing stress and anxiety, not to mention helping you shed extra weight. Of course, it might be hard to go to the gym every day, so try to incorporate other exercises, such as walking, tennis, or yoga, which may be able to fit into your schedule more easily. The most important thing is to create a routine that works for you. Make sleep part of your self-care routine. Sleep can have a huge effect on how you feel both emotionally and physically. It is important to try and get 6 to 8 hours quality sleep at night and also it’s especially important to stay away from caffeine and sugar, which tend to keep you awake .Try to avoid the habit of using technology or devices in bed. Say no to others, and say yes to your self-care. Learning to say no is really hard; many of us feel obligated to say yes when someone asks for our time or energy. But once you learn how to politely say no, you’ll start to feel more self confident, and you’ll have more time for your self-care. Take care of yourself by getting organized. Getting organized is often the first step to becoming a healthier you, because it allows you to figure out exactly what you need to do to take better care of yourself. Schedule your self-care time, and guard that time with everything you have. It can be hard for us all to find extra time. But it’s extremely important to plan regular self-care time. Moments alone can help you to ponder the best ways to move forward in your life and keep you grounded. And moments with friends can help you feel more connected and relaxed. First and foremost reading through this weekly column is another step of self care on your Weight loss and Wellness journey. A HUG FOR YOU By David King

SHORTLISTED FOR THE IRISH BOOK AWARDS 2021 The heart-warming story of Adam King’s Virtual Hug Nothing warms us up quite like a hug, but what can we do when we can’t be together? This is the story of a new hug’s adventure and the boy who shared it with the world. Adam King stole the hearts of the nation when he introduced us to his Virtual Hug, a heart-shaped sign he carried during the COVID-19 pandemic to help him stay connected to his teacher while he was learning from home. He also took it to his regular hospital appointments to show his doctors, nurses, and care staff that he was still giving them a hug, just in a different way. This picture book, inspired by true events, tells the story of one little boy with a big idea that came straight from the heart. The virtual hug makes its way onto mugs, postage stamps and even all the way to outer space, spreading warmth and connection to people all over the world.

BALLYLONGFORD CHURCH ARRANGEMENTS Thankfully, the good news is that all restrictions in connection with attending Masses at St Michael the Archangel Church in Ballylongford and the attendance arrangements for Masses in St Mary’s Church in Asdee have been eased considerably with the Rota system now hopefully being put out of circulation for the long term. Further to the Government announcement on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 regarding Covid-19 restrictions, clarification has now been received from the Department of the Taoiseach concerning religious services, which are as follows: - “Religious services and weddings can proceed without capacity limits but with all other protective measures remaining in place. This is a very positive measure; however, it is imperative that all other Covid-19 protective measures remain in place in order to protect all members of our communities/congregations. Premises should be well ventilated, and hand sanitiser will be provided. Places of Worship will continue to use separate entry and exit routes and face masks must be worn. Congregations are encouraged to spread out as much as possible when attending Places of Worship and those experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms should be discouraged from attending. As the capacity of Places of Worship and numbers attending varies greatly, the onus will be on each Place of Worship and community to consider what they are comfortable with and what best suits their congregation. This will be particularly relevant for funerals/special ceremonies, with large congregations in attendance. Attendees on these occasions should not be permitted to stand in the aisles or doorways and hand shaking and the use of condolence books/sharing of Booklets etc. must be seriously avoided. Choirs or soloists performing in Places of Worship should be limited in line with the size/capacity of the venue and should adhere to 2 metre social distance from other singers, the choir master, the congregation and any other individuals in the setting (as they will not be wearing face masks during performances). Sunday Obligation: If anybody feels sick or unwell you are asked to please avoid attending as the dispensation from attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of obligation remain in place for those sick or unwell. One has the choice to watch Mass on Television, listen to it on the radio or on other forms of media. Those who are attending Mass can fulfil their Sunday obligation at any of the weekday Mass if they so wish. Let a weekday Mass be your Sunday worship, at least for another few weeks. Please continue to be alert and open to this new way of attending Church. People attending are required to sit 3 per seat. Family groups from the one household may sit together if they so wish but please maintain social distancing at all times. BEREAVEMENT Sadness has again loomed over the Parishes of Bally and Tarbert on the very sad passing of Sadie O’Connor (Née Meade) R.I.P. Sadie passed peacefully in the wonderful care of her beloved family at her residence on Tuesday 2nd November last. Sarah Agnes Meade was a quietly spoken, kind and caring woman who was born into the Meade family residence in Glencullare to dad James and mom Sarah on 4th January 1924 and baptised by Rev. Fr Michael Allman P.P. in Ballylongford on the 5th January 1924. It was in this townland which lies half way between Bally and Tarbert that Sadie as she was more affectionately known grew up and dedicated her entire life to the area. She lived her entire life in Glencullare attending Reenturk National School, and then studying at a boarding school in Tuam which was the only time she was actually away from the homeland. She did not have to travel very far to meet the love of her life Eddie O’Connor who she married and settled down with just a short distance from where she was reared. As a young couple they worked hard on the family farm establishing themselves as a very successful family in the farming and local community. In time they welcomed their eight children into the family and lived happily surrounded by family, friendly neighbours and good friends. Like every family they had good and bad days too, and unfortunately the family was dealt a severe blow on 2nd August 1969 with the unexpected passing of a loving father and husband Eddie which created a huge void, pain and loss to such a loving and young family. But Sadie continued with what

18

her and her late husband had begun and in time she too accomplished the dreams she and her husband had set out to achieve. Farming was always a very important part of her life even after she retired. She was always interested in any new developments within the farming sector, and tuned in regularly to the R.T.E. programme “Ear to the Ground”. She was big into sport also and had a keen interest in all sports but particularly Athletics and Running. But it was her caring nature that shone out, her life revolved around her loving family, from their education, welfare and life in general; this was further extended to the welfare of grandchildren and great grandchildren when they became part of the family. She was an exceptional cook and her cooking was always the envy of so many that called to her for a friendly chat or get together. Sadie was a very deep religious woman whose devotion to prayer was always on a daily basis both morning and evening. She had a hidden talent that the family did not know about until after she retired from farming and that was painting. She was a very talented artist who painted numerous pieces and mounted them so professionally and are now a living testimony to her memory as they hang so beautifully in the rooms of her residence in Glencullare and indeed will lovingly reflect her life for many a year to come. To her heartbroken family who mourn for Sadie that we extend our deepest sympathies to Desmond, Barry, Maria, Una, Noelle, Loreto, Columba, Roisin, her daughters-in-law Breda, Bernadette and Marie, her sons-in-law Gerard Geoghegan, Marty Holland, Tom Rice and Arthur O’Brien, her 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, nephews, niece, relatives, kind neighbours and wide circle of friends. May her gentle soul Rest in Peace. Sadie is predeceased by her loving husband Eddie and her sisters Moira (Prendiville) and Sr. Raphael. Sadie’s Funeral took place on Friday last 5th November with Requiem Mass being offered at 11am at St. Mary’s Church, Tarbert, followed by interment afterwards in Lislaughtin Abbey. DANCING CLASSES Social Dancing Classes for adults and beginners which include polkas, waltzing, jiving, quick steps etc. Will take place in Parish Hall, Ballylongford every Friday night from 7.30pm. All are welcome. CRAFT FAIR Ballylongford Christmas Craft and Food Fair will take place on Sunday November 21st at The Parish Hall Ballylongford commencing at 11am and closing at 5pm. It promises to be bigger than ever with lots of exhibitors who will have plenty of great Christmas goods and presents for sale. Word is to get there early to avoid disappointment. G.A.A. TARBERT TARBERT NEWS Email; tarbertnews@outlook.com or telephone Patrick Lynch at 068/ 36117 on or before 7pm Sunday. DEATHS The first week of November, All Souls month, sadly saw the passing of three parishioners who will be mourned and missed by family, neighbours and friends. On Sunday 31 October, Patrick (Pakie) Lyons of Chapel Street died at UHK Tralee. Pakie, had he lived, would have celebrated his 76th. birthday on Wednesday3 November. His removal took place from Lyons Funeral Home, Listowel to St Mary’s Church, Tarbert on Thursday 4 November. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael Hussey assisted by Fr John O’Connor and Fr Philip O’Connell. At the end of Mass, Pakie’s sister Patricia read the WB Yeats poem ‘The Lake Isle of Innisfree’. His son Joseph thanked the medical staff and all those who helped the family and his father during his illness. He concluded by saying that his father ‘was born in Tarbert, grew up in Tarbert and would be staying in Tarbert’ Due to the easing of Covid restrictions, a large congregation gathered in St Mary’s New Cemetery to pay their final respects. John Dowling sang ‘Forty Shades of Green’ which Pakie liked to sing to an audience. Pakie was one of three boys and three girls born to Jack and Bridget Lyons, née Anglim in Chapel Street, Tarbert. Growing up in the difficult economic climate of the 1950’s he inherited a strong work ethic. His father kept 10 or 12 cows, reared pigs and farmed a small holding. His mother ran a small shop selling groceries, animal feeding stuffs and farm implements on a 7 day dawn to dark basis. Pakie married Philomena and they both carried on the tradition when his parents died. Pakie had a very keen interest in farming and while the shop closed in 2010 he continued to keep his few cows in Dooncaha. The past couple of years were medically very difficult for him with in hospital surgery and treatment in both CUH Cork and UHK Tralee for long periods. He was very capably looked after at home by Philomena but his health continued to deteriorate leading to a final curtain call in UHK Tralee. Pakie was predeceased by his parents and by his younger sister Diana who died in England. Sympathy of the community to his wife Philomena, sons Joseph and John, brothers Dan and John, sisters Patricia (Dublin) and Cora (Glin), nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends. The death took place of Geraldine Lucas, née Horan of Kilmurray McMahon, Clare and formerly of Tarbert. Geraldine who was aged 62 died unexpectedly at her residence on Friday 29 October. Her Requiem Mass took place on Thursday 4 November at St Mary’s Church, Cranny and she was buried in the local cemetery. Geraldine was one of four girls born to Maurice and Bridie Horan, née O’Neill at St Patrick’s Terrace in Tarbert. Some forty years ago she married Bernard Lucas and went to live in Clare. Sympathy to her husband Bernie, daughters Agnes, Bernadette and Josie, sons Maurice and Martin, sisters Anne (twin), Eileen and Lisia and brother-in-law, Tom 0’Connor of Woodview Place, Tarbert and extended family. Tuesday 2 November saw the passing of Tarbert’s oldest parishioner when Sadie O’Connor, née Meade of Glencullare, Tarbert was called to her eternal reward. Born on 4 January 1924 to James and Sarah Meade, she was baptised by Fr Myles Allman in Ballylongford Parish Church on 5 January. Following her death at her home surrounded by her family her remains were removed to St Mary’s Church, Tarbert on Friday 5 November. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Sean Hanafin assisted by Fathers John O’Connor, Philip O’Connell and Fr Richard Davern, a family friend from Limerick. Fr Sean traced her long life story from attending Reenturk National School, boarding school in Tuam, marrying Eddie O’Connor and following his untimely death in 1969 having to rear eight young children and look after the running of the family farm. He outlined her strong faith and her daily routine of ‘supper, Rosary and bed’, her love of nature, good deeds and taking up art in her retiring years. Her grand-daughter Catriona explained the significance of the gifts brough to the altar. Her daughter Loreto in her moment of reflection read Brendan Kennelly’s poem ‘Begin’ and the philosophy behind the poem as it related to her mother. Her son Des-

mond in his eulogy spoke of how his mother always led by example rather than direction, her caring nature and her interest in all her family. He thanked all the community care staff who made it possible for her to live at home in the company and support of her family. The funeral liturgy was enhanced by music on violin, harp and keyboard played by her grand-daughters. Following the funeral Mass and prayers of commendation the late Sadie O’Connor was laid to rest beside her late husband Eddie in the family plot at Lislaughtin Abbey Cemetery. She was predeceased by her sisters, Moira (Prendiville) and Sr Raphael of the Mercy Order. Sympathy of the community to her sister, Sr Mary of the Sacred Heart, to her family of Desmond, Barry, Maria, Una, Noelle, Loreto, Columba, Roisin, her 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and friends. Sympathy of the community also to Helen and Thomas Enright, Doonard Upper, Tarbert on the death of Helen’s father Thomas Joseph (Joe) Lynch of Lahesrough, Ballybunion who died on Monday 1 November and whose Requiem Mass and funeral took place in St John’s Church, Ballybunion on Thursday 4 November. With the score line at 2-1 to Celtic for most of the game, the visitors finished strong and got the away win. Full credit to our Boys who never gave up. Scorers: Tadgh Dalton, Jimmy Carmody Under 13 National Cup Boys Round 2 Nenagh AFC 1 1 Listowel Celtic AET (Nenagh won on penalties) Listowel Celtic Under 13A’s travelled to Nenagh last Saturday to take on Nenagh AFC in the second round of the National Cup. What a performance by our Boys in tough conditions in Nenagh. We started very well playing some nice soccer. Working hard for each other and breaking down the Nenagh play as fast as they could out of possession. We took the lead after 20 minutes with Cillian O’Sullivan breaking up a Nenagh attack, passing the ball up to Ryan Browne in midfield who played a through ball to Ajay Barrett who still had work to do but what a finish from 20 yards finding the bottom right corner of the net. We were still fighting for every ball and Nenagh were finding it very hard to break down what was a very strong Listowel defence. Celtic then got a free kick about 25 yards from goal which Ajay put narrowly wide with the keeper beaten. Then just before half time, the home team were awarded a penalty for what was a harsh handball decision which they converted to level the game just before half time. Half time 1-1. The second half started the same as the first with both teams playing some excellent soccer and both teams finding it hard to break each other down. Every single player for Listowel were working their socks off and not giving the opposition time to settle on the ball. Clear cut chances were far and few between with Sean Mulvihill and Ajay having second half chances and Nenagh also having a good chance that went narrowly over the bar. 1-1 full time and into extra time. We pressed hard for a winner in extra time but couldn’t break down the Nenagh defence and Nenagh the same with the Listowel defence. A superb game of soccer by two very sporting teams. To penalties the game went which Nenagh came out on top Every single player who wore the Celtic jersey can hold their head held high in what was an outstanding performance, both in ability and heart that was shown on the pitch. Be proud of the display and kick on from it. Thanks to all the Parents who travelled for their support and a Big thanks to Nenagh AFC for their hospitality in what was a very enjoyable sporting game of soccer. BEALE GAA

It was not our day as Beale seniors were defeated by Desmonds in the 2020 North Kerry Senior Championship semi-final on Duagh on Sunday. Even though first off the mark on the scoreboard, we were always chasing the game. Desmonds seemed the fitter and faster side and were five points to the good at the short whistle, 0-7 to 0-2. While we tried to put some moves together, our opponents were sharper and found scores easier to come by. Desmonds ran out comfortable winners on a score line of 1-14 to 0-6. It is true to say that the picture could have been much bleaker but for the goal saving exploits of our goalie, Seán Dee. We now turn our attention to this year’s championship. We’ve received a bye to the quarter finals of the 2021 North Kerry Championship, which are scheduled for the last weekend in November. Beale/Finuge play Knocknagoshel/Brosna/Duagh in the North Kerry Minor Championship quarter final on Sunday, November 21st, at 11.30 in Mountcoal. Our juniors await details of the final of the North Kerry Intermediate Cup against St Senans.

The North Kerry U15s played out their postponed county semi-final on Sunday against Mid Kerry. An exciting game developed, played in ideal conditions. The boys from the North fell short at the end with Mid Kerry prevailing having led throughout the game. Final score NK 1-16 to MK 3-16. Finuge was represented by Gavin O’Keeffe on the panel. Overall, it has been a very successful run for the new North Kerry district at U15 and minor level reaching two county semifinals, bringing much needed exposure and experience to our underage players which will stand to them over time.

NORTH KERRY GAA

North Kerry Championship Semi-Final 2020 sponsored by McMunn’s Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion Ballydonoghue 3-12 -v- Brosna 0-17 A.E.T. By Sean Moriarty Con Brosnan Park, Moyvane was the venue for the Covid-delayed 2020 North Kerry Championship Semi-Final, sponsored by McMunn’s Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion between Ballydonoghue and Brosna. A very entertaining match from start to finish with Ballydonoghue ultimately prevailing after extra-time to set up a Final meeting with either Beale or Castleisland Desmonds. Ballydonoghue led by 4pts to 2pts at the first water break with their scores coming from Tommy Kennelly (45),Paul Kennelly and a brace from his brother Jack. Paul Walsh and the excellent Shane Fitzmaurice were Brosna’s scorers. Tom McGoldrick and Tommy Kennelly(45) swapped points and Paul Walsh reduced the deficit to the minimum before the outstanding Jack Kennelly goaled in the 27th min to put 4pts between the sides. In what was to be a recurring pattern in the game, Brosna reeled them back in with 3pts before the interval from McGoldrick,Timmy Finnegan and Walsh again to leave the half-time score reading Ballydonoghue 1-05 Brosna 0-07. A blistering start to the second half from Ballydonoghue saw Jack Kennelly point a free, before scoring his second goal with a delightful lob over Steve McAuliffe and when Mike Gogarty pointed shortly after, it put 6pts between the sides. Thomas Fitzgerald is always good for a score or two from wing back and provided a badly needed one for Brosna but Jack Kennelly cancelled that out. Brosna did galvanize themselves and scored 3pts before the second water break through Paul Walsh,Conor Lane and Kieran O’ Donnell to leave 3pts the difference with 15mins to play. Brosna had the bit between their teeth at this point and kept Ballydonoghue scoreless to the end of normal time. Brosna will rue missed chances in this final quarter, Paul Walsh did point a free and Timmy Finnegan brought Brosna to within a point of their opponents approaching full-time. As injury time played out, it looked like it was going to be Ballydonoghue’s day as Timmy Finnegan saw a point effort rebound off the post and Paul Walsh missed a scorable free but they earned one more free before the egg timer emptied and this time Paul Walsh made no mistake and levelled the match for the first time since throw-in, so extra-time would be needed, with the score reading Ballydonoghue 2-08 Brosna 0-14 after normal time had elapsed.

4pts of a gap at the break of extra-time. Both sides were visibly tiring at this stage, with players on both sides going down with cramp. Jack Kennelly and Danny Moriarty traded points in the second period and Ballydonoghue it was who emerged victorious when referee Mike Hennessy blew for full-time, on a scoreline of Ballydonoghue 3-12 Brosna 0-17. Credit to all for a very entertaining game and we look forward to seeing both teams in action again in the near future. Big Mid-Kerry full forward, Dara Clifford, pointed from play in the opening minute and Oisin Healy replied for North Kerry 2mins later. With a place in the Final at stake, every ball was keenly contested but Mid Kerry were more clinical and they notched 1-03 in a four minute spell through excellent corner forward Daire Hogan(1pt), Dara Clifford(1pt) and Niall O’ Brien(1-01) to put daylight between the sides at the first water break 1-04 to 0-01. Mid Kerry added two further points from Daire Hogan and Gearoid Evans and one felt they were heading out of sight but North Kerry showed great fighting spirit to score 5pts without reply to bring themselves back into the game. The excellent Darragh O’ Keeffe was showing great leadership when it was badly needed, scoring four of those points(2f) and Conor Sweeney notched a lovely score from play. Niall O’ Brien pointed a free for the Mid Kerry men before O’ Keeffe again struck from play to leave the half time score at Mid Kerry 1-07 North Kerry 0-07. On the resumption O’ Keeffe and Hogan traded frees when lightning corner forward for Mid Kerry, Stephen Gannon goaled to put 6pts between the sides. Darragh O’ Keeffe and impressive midfielder Evan Boyle cut the deficit to 4pts, Niall O’ Brien replied from a free before Oisin Healy scored his second point. Two converted frees from Daire Hogan followed by another O’ Keeffe converted free brought us to the second water break with a 5pt lead for Mid Kerry 2-11 to 0-12. North Kerry needed a goal and the impressive Luke Sheridan provided it to cut the gap to 2pts and a surge of energy flowed through the North Kerry men.

It was tit for tat for the ensuing 10 mins as both sides raised white flags as the game flowed up and down the pitch. Darragh O’ Keeffe scored his ninth point of the game, Luke Rochford and Boyle again scored for North Kerry while Daire Hogan impressively hit 3pts and Dara Clifford white flagged for Mid Kerry to leave 3pts between them with 3 mins to play. North Kerry threw all they had at their opponents but they defended resolutely and when man of the match, Daire Hogan goaled on the stroke of full time, it was clear it was going to be Mid Kerry’s day. Rochford and Hogan( who scored 1-09 in total) traded points and when excellent referee Billy Lacey blew the final whistle, it was the Mid Kerry men who look forward to a County Final next week on a scoreline of Mid Kerry 3-16 -v- North Kerry 1-16. Fixtures McElligott Oils U-15 North Kerry Championship Sunday 14th November 11-30am (Extra-Time) Div. 1 : Q/F: Tarbert -v- Duagh in Tarbert Div. 2 : Q/F: St. Senans -v- Ballyduff in Mountcoal

Ballydonoghue had lost County star, Jason Foley to injury in the final quarter along with Brendain O’ Neill, who was sent from the field of play. They could re-start extra-time with their full compliment and any sense that Brosna had an edge heading into extra-time, was short-lived as Brion o’ Seanachain went on a rampaging run up the middle on the re-start to blast to the net with his left to put daylight between the sides again. Paul Walsh pointed two frees before Paul Kennelly(2pts) and his brother Tommy pointed his third 45 to leave

Just because I talk about life after death and want to know as much as God tells us doesn’t mean l go around depressed and bemoaning my existence all day long. For me the most important thing I need to know with absolute certainty is that l will be going home to Heaven when I leave this planet. Because eternity is just that....it’s forever!!!! Life here isn’t!

DANCES

Heritage Centre, Scartaglin Sunday 14th November: Dermot Lyons Band Sunday 21st October: Jerh Healy Band The Singing Jarvey

Ask St Clare for 3 favours, one business and two impossible. Say 9 Hail Mary’s for 9 days with a lighted candle. Pray whether you believe or not, finish on the 9th day. Powerful Novena say May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised, adored, glorified now and forever throughout the world. Amen. Your request will be granted no matter how impossible it may seem. Favour requested. Publication must be promised. C.E.

Again 2 Corinthians 5:1 reminds me “For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home (our body) is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, but eternal in the heavens.”

In the Gospel of Matthew 6:19-21 Jesus urges us “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up treasures for yourselves in Heaven....for where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” Heaven is real place and the holy dwelling of the Lord Most High. We can’t even begin to understand it’s splendour but the bible does give us beautiful descriptions of the place in which those who receive Jesus will spend eternity. 1 Corinthians 2:9 puts it like this, “But eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” There is another life beyond this one. Who wouldn’t want to be sure of it? If you require any further information you can call LCF at 087 9529907. Yours sincerely, Bridie (Dillon)Hartney
