CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS
CULTIVATE CREDIT UNION LOANS AVAILABLE FOR WORKING CAPITAL AS FERTILISER PRICES RISE
CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips and tools that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude as well as all the information on dóTerra’s powerful essential oils. Surrendering Pain – Physically and Emotionally DóTerra’s Deep Blue is this week’s essential oil as lots of us have taken up different activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, basketball, yoga among others to improve our fitness levels and overall health. This essential oil is generally used for physical discomfort as it fits into our active lifestyle and is helpful to us in our daily uses. It can also assist us on an emotional level due to its soothing properties. Deep Blue which is also available in a cream or rub provides targeted relief and works on reducing inflammation. It provides a soothing and cooling effect, and it smells good. It is the perfect choice oil to massage into tired muscles after a long day of work or exercise, or even add a few drops into a nice warm bath as it provides an effective and immediate cooling & soothing sensation to the body. It is a powerful essential oil to relieve migraines, and by placing one drop to the back of the neck, it will soothe tensions away. It is also highly effective when mixed with a carrier oil and applied to the temples and forehead, bearing in mind to always keep the oils away from the eyes! Deep Blue can also assist in the treatment of fibromyalgia and is extremely popular in assisting a growing child during their growth spurts. If you work on a computer from home or back in the office, I always recommend rubbing Deep Blue mixed with your carrier oil on to your fingers, wrists, neck, and shoulders to provide a cooling and comforting massage. As mentioned above, Deep Blue works on the emotions and is a soothing oil to use if one is going through heartbreak or grief. It can offer strength to face emotional wounds, allowing the wounds to surface for transformation and healing. It can teach individuals how to be the observer of their painful experiences rather than overidentifying with them. When individuals suffer from intense emotional or physical pain, it is common for them to act irrationally. Deep Blue can support the mind in staying cool and collected, regardless of the emotional turmoil or physical pain individuals may be in. Deep Blue can also be diffused in a cold-water diffuser and is one of the essential oils that cannot be taken internally. It can be purchase by contacting me on the number below. As an advocate for DóTerra essential oils I know how the oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood, and over the past three years, I’m delighted and so grateful to have been able to help so many people and their families in using their dóTerra oils. These oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin with or without a carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing a two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And the third way, internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop under the tongue daily. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. For extra positivity and well-being, check out our social media pages – Caroline’s Pod of Positivity where we have information and videos on all dóTerra’s essential oils. My addition of Caroline’s Fashion Fix on a Friday night is a must for all ladies to join, where I’ll be bringing you the latest Spring Summer Collection from the fabulous French clothing collection Captain Tortue. Until next time, I leave you with our thought for the week, ‘One small Positive Thought in the Morning can Change Your Whole Day’ Caroline X Tel: 087 292 1292

With soaring input prices across the agricultural sector, particularly in relation to fertiliser, farmers will need access to increased levels of working capital this Spring. Farmers across North Kerry are facing into a period of price inflation and increased uncertainty. Cultivate, which provides farm loans from the credit union is helping to address this working capital challenge. Cultivate is collaborating with independent local Agri Merchants nationwide to provide additional credit to farmers following this dramatic increase in fertiliser prices. While everyone hopes that this is a short-term issue, additional supports are now needed. Credit unions including Listowel Credit Union are stepping up to support local farmers who are looking to access a credit facility by offering a working capital loan to manage their cashflow this Spring. Joe Healy, former President of the IFA and now Chairperson of Cultivate, said: “This is good news for the agriculture sector. It’s an initiative that will be of benefit to both farmers and merchants. With a Cultivate Credit Union loan, farmers in County Kerry are increasingly able to benefit from the local decision making and personal service offered by Listowel Credit Union, Killarney Credit Union and Cara Credit Union. Cultivate offers local farmers the opportunity to talk with people who understand farming and to agree a financial package that is tailored to best suit the needs of the farmer and their farming enterprise.” Speaking on behalf of Listowel Credit Unions, Ashley FitzGerald said: “We understand the vital importance of fertiliser each Spring and the difficulties that the increased cost will have on farmers. Listowel Credit Union is here to support our farming members in this time of turbulence. Cultivate loans are unsecured loans of up to €50,000. For any farmer who wants to find out more about how to access a Cultivate loan, they call our Cultivate Officer Denyse Shine on 068 21938, visit in branch or go to www.listowelcu.ie/Cultivate-Loan.” For any farmer who wants to find out more please contact Listowel Credit Union. SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column… Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column
We have heard a lot of encouraging news over the last few days in relation to restrictions being lifted. This is very positive news but still at the end of the day it comes down to each and every one of us to play our part to keep us all in a safe and positive environment. Hope and positivity help people make better health and life decisions and focus more on long term goals Positivity vs Negativity So let’s get more positive It is well proven that “ What we think, determines how we feel and how we feel determines what we do “ so it does really all start with our thoughts. Think back over the past week and answer these questions yourself: What went well for you this past week? ( Food choices, Activity, Weekend) How did you make that happen? (Planned ahead, Made the time) How did that help you? (Felt in control, More organized) How did it make you feel? (Happy, Focused, In Control) Will you continue doing the same for this week? What are your Challenges? We all face a challenging time, whether it’s night time or the weekends etc. Think about your own challenges that you came up against recently on your Weightloss and Wellness journey. What were the factors leading up to it? (Weather, Feeling fed up etc) How did that leave you feeling? ( Sad, Stressed) How did you react? (Eat, Eat and Eat) How did you feel then? (Out of Control, Off Track) If you were faced with the same challenges again this week How could you react differently? Would it make a difference to how you feel? When you find yourself struggling it’s important to think positive to keep yourself inspired and to keep trying. For example, You could look back on how far you have come from when you first started on your weight loss and wellness journey. Recognise the changes you feel and see in yourself. As we know nothing is ever just “Black and White” it is important to look at the “Grey” area in between. For example: Imagine you have eaten something unplanned for, it’s very easy to think negatively then and say to yourself “I have ruined the day now” feel bad about it and go on to eat more and then a bad day can lead to another bad day. So the “Grey” area in this case would be to think more positively and say to yourself “ Well it’s only one thing or one day, I can still pull this back “ We should think and talk to ourselves like we would to a friend. What would you say to a friend? (Start afresh tomorrow, You can do this) Remember at the end of the day, we can be our own best friend or our own worst enemy. Whatever news we get from the Government it is up to ourselves whether we take it as a Positive or a Negative. That’s your choice. We will leave you with this Positive thought . “Don’t wait until you have reached your goal to be proud of yourself, be proud of every step you take towards reaching your goal” For extra support and for weekly accountability check us Rita Wellness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “In Person Meetings”, “At Home Service” or our “One to One Service”. BREAKING POINT By Edel Coffey
ONE MISTAKE COULD COST HER EVERYTHING. Susannah has two beautiful daughters, a high-flying medical career, a successful husband and an enviable life. Her hair is glossy, her clothes are expensive; she truly has it all. But when - on the hottest day of the year - her strict morning routine is disrupted, Susannah finds herself running on autopilot. It is hours before she realises she has made a devastating mistake. Her baby, Louise, is still in the backseat of the car and it is too late to save her. As the press close in around her, Susannah is put on trial for negligence. It is plain to see that this is not a trial, it’s a witch hunt. But what will the court say? Readers love Breaking Point: ‘A genuine contender for best book I have read this year.’ ‘I was reading through the tears and couldn’t read it fast enough’ ‘An excellent novel, perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain’ ‘If you want an addictive, pacey read, this is for you!’ ‘I was a bit of an emotional wreck at the end’ ‘A gripping, compulsive pageturner about what we expect from women, especially mothers. It’s going to be a massive hit.’ Marian Keyes ‘Breaking Point is raw, compelling, and ground-breaking; Coffey puts the life of working mothers under a microscope. To say I loved it is an understatement, I expect it will be a huge success.’ Liz Nugent

BALLYLONGFORD BEREAVEMENTS The New Year has started in an extremely sad way for so many families in this Community. The number of families that have lost dear and loved ones has defied all description. The number of well known and highly respected people to pass from our midst has been very unfortunate both for the Community but most importantly for the families concerned. It is also extremely sad as the population of the Community is getting smaller and is haemorrhaging for the want of major employment in order to keep our young people at home. While I have always written articles dedicated to our bereaved and their families in the past, I am afraid that the space in this column would not be adequate if I had to write what I would love to write about each one of them and for that, I am truly sorry, but I will mention each one lovingly. The first sad passing was of Philip Martin Lyden At Rest of No.2 Lislaughtin or Quay Street who died on Thursday January 6th at University Hospital Kerry. To his wife Sarah Jane and daughter Samantha who have resided in the village for some years we extend our deepest sympathies. His body was taken from U.H.K.Tralee Mortuary to Shannon Crematorium for a private Cremation. William Cox R.I.P. more affectionately known as Willie of Ballyline sadly passed from us on Sunday 9th January. One of the kindest gentlemen and a hard working member of the farming community and a true G.A.A. Gael who adored the Blue & White. To Willie’s family of Son James, daughters Mary, Breda and Julie, sisters Sheila and Noreen, daughterin-law Noelle, sons-in-law Adrian and Sean, brothers-in-law Con and Cathal, grandchildren Seamus, Elaine, Kevin, Aoife, Emma, Andrew and David, nephew, nieces, cousins, neighbours and friends we extend our deepest sympathies. William’s cortege departed from his residence on Monday morning 17th January, arriving at St Michael the Archangel Church, Ballylongford for 11am Requiem Mass followed by Internment in Lislaughtin Abbey, Ballylongford. The sad news of the passing of Margaret Mulvihill (Née Hanrahan) R.I.P. of Asdee West and formerly of Shrone, Lenamore was received with great shock and deep sadness as she passed from us on Tuesday 11th January last. Peggy as she was more affectionately known was one of nature’s finest women whose love of family and the community she lived in was paramount in everything she did. She and her late husband Martin worked hard on the family farm for many years. Peggy died peacefully at home where she was so lovingly cared for by her now heartbroken family and it is to her heartbroken family of sons Eamon, Thomas, Martin Joseph, daughters Breda and Sarah-Ann, daughters-in law Anne, Catriona, Lisa, son-in law Liam, grandchildren Mary, Thomas, Kieran, Leanne, Megan, Eoin, Maura, Joseph, Gerard, Patrick, Christopher, Maggie, Sarah-Kate, great grandchild Molly-Mai, sisters Sadie, Joanie, Kate, brother John, sisters-in law Noan and Sheila, brothers-in law Tom, Pat, Frankie, that we extend our deepest sympathies at this time. Margaret (Peggy’s) remains lay in repose at her home Prior to Removal on Friday morning from her residence arriving at St Mary’s Church Asdee for 11.30am Requiem Mass after which Peggy was laid to rest in Ahavallen Cemetery Rusheen, Ballylongford. The News of the passing of Jane Ryan (Née Murphy) R.I.P. was a devastating shock which created a huge sadness in this Community and beyond when we learned of her passing on Tuesday 11th January. Jane was also a tower of strength in our Community. A great family woman she also worked hard on the family farm and always had a very deep and religious nature all through her life. She was one of the founder members of the local Adult Choir and was very much part of the choir up until the beginning of Covid which curtailed all that activity. Jane went to God peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday night. Jane is predeceased by her daughters Maura and baby Margaret, brothers Harry, Fr Liam and Fr Michael, Sisters Joan, Bridget, Sr Marie Jude and Nancy. She is deeply regretted by her loving husband Joe, sons Tim and Pat, sisters Phil, Sr Ellen and Lizzy, brothers Jimmy and Nicholas and sister-in-law Kathleen, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies. Jane’s cortege departed from her residence on Friday afternoon, 14th January, arriving at St Michael the Archangel Church, Ballylongford for 2.30pm Requiem Mass after which Jane was laid to rest in Lislaughtin Abbey, Ballylongford. Tuesday January 13th was also a very sad and lonely day as we learned of the passing of Sheila Edgeworth R.I.P. of Mortra. Sheila formerly of Kilconly, Ballybunion lived in Mortrea with her late Husband Pat Joe R.I.P. and daughter Noreen. They were truly a golden couple whose love of each other and their daughter was all they lived for. Having happily resided in Mortrea, all their adult life they made National Headlines in 2009 after discovering a priceless treasure in a Sod of Turf which is now known as the “Mortrea Brooch” Sheila was also a deeply religious woman whose devotion to St Martin was very dear to her. Sheila is deeply regretted and sadly mourned by her daughter Noreen, son-in-law James, granddaughter Sarah (Long of Ballybunion), sister-in-law Margaret, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and family relatives to whom we extend our deepest sympathies. Sheila’s funeral cortege departed her residence in Mortara on Monday the 17th of January

last arriving for 2:30pm Requiem Mass in St. Michael the Archangel Church, Ballylongford after which Sheila will be laid to rest in Ahavallen Cemetery. On Friday last January 21st the Community was further plunged in to sadness and grief on learning of the death of Noreen Foley (Née Heaphy) R.I.P. of 29 Kenny Heights and formerly of Well Street, Ballylongford. A highly respected woman of our Community Noreen was a devoted wife and mother to her late husband Patrick and her children Ann and Michael. They lived happily in Well Street for numerous years, but sadly when Patrick R.I.P. passed away some years back Noreen moved to Listowel where she resided with her daughter Ann. Noreen was born and reared in Main Street where she was one of four daughters and eight brothers born to the late Jackie and Hannah Heaphy R.I.P. Indeed while times during those early years were hard, the family were happy and that happiness would follow on down the line onto their own families as time came round. But our thoughts and prayers and sympathies at this sad time go to her son Michael, daughter Ann (Flaherty), daughter in-law Corina, grandchildren Caroline, Aoife & Anna, great grandchild Lorcan, brothers Tommy, Willie, Jerry, Joseph & Brendan, sisters Hannah & Teresa, brothers in-law, sisters inlaw, nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members. Noreen lay in repose at Lynch’s Funeral Home, Ballylongford, on Monday, 24th January. from 6pm to 8pm. Removal on Tuesday morning from her residence in Listowel arriving at St Michael the Archangel Church, Ballylongford for 11.00am Requiem Mass after which Noreen was laid to rest in Ahavallen Cemetery, Rusheen, Ballylongford. May the light of Heaven shine on their Gentle Souls. SERIOUS ACCIDENT Last Thursday Morning January 20th as the shocking News filtered through of a fatal road accident on the Main Listowel to Lisselton Road nobody could brace themselves as to what happened and everybody praying that the occupants were safe. Not knowing who was involved, but hoping that all were ok. Then came the bolt that shook this Community and many other communities to the core as we learned that one of the passengers was a lovely bright young man Thomas Doc Doherty who was a member of the local Senior G.A.A. team and who had unfortunately sustained serious injuries. Such was his injuries that he was transferred to U.H.K. and further transferred to Cork University Hospital where thankfully he is making good progress and thank God making a steady recovery which we all hope and pray will continue and that he will be back to full health in a very short time please God. The wonderful work done by so many was what his Dad David wished me to highlight through these Notes as I spoke with him on Saturday. David and Thomas’ mother Mary wish to express their sincere gratitude to so many people who have been of such wonderful assistance and help to them since this unfortunate accident. The wish to express their sincere gratitude to the Emergency Services whose professionalism and care of Thomas was most greatly appreciated. His friends who stayed with him, and helped him, while waiting for the emergency services. All of the staff at U.H.K. and at University Hospital Cork for their excellent care and attention of Thomas. The O’Rahilly Club Ballylongford and the wonderful work of Caroline the Secretary who organized the healing mass and to Rev. Fr Michael Hussey P.P. his fellow Team and Club mates who attended and took part were so wonderful. Thanks to all the people who have either rang or text the family enquiring and offering support which is wonderfully appreciated. In this our Community we pray for Thomas for a speedy and successful recovery and also we pray and support his parents David and Mary, his family relatives and friends in this awful time for them. KILFLYNN CHRISTMAS LIGHTS RAISED €7,891.14 FOR PALLIATIVE CARE UHK The Murphy family, Dromakee, Kilflynn are delighted to say, on Tuesday 18th of January, there presented a cheque to Palliative Care UHK for a total of €7,891.14. They want to sincerely thank everyone who made a donation. Your generosity was overwhelming. Thank you so much for choosing to donate to such a worthy cause, through our annual Christmas Lights Fundraising Event. Thank you to everyone who shared the Facebook post and for all the lovely messages, in particular, Mike Parker, Kilflynn, who helped greatly with publicising the fundraiser. As a family, as they approached their first Christmas since their dad passed away last June, the support they received through the fundraiser was overwhelming and gave the family a massive lift. They received donations from friends from many parts of the country, some work colleagues took it upon themselves to make collections and friends and neighbours contributed massively. I hope all those who came to view the lights enjoyed the experience. Noreen, Michael, Wayne Murphy, Jessica and Brian Nammock, found it very hard to put up the Christmas Lights this Christmas but got strength from carrying their dad’s wish and also carrying on his tradition. I know their Dad Mike would be so proud and as a family they are proud beyond measure of their dad and his kind heart. So again, thank you all for being so generous. DEATHS The death took place of David Flynn, aged 90, in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. David was one of 11 children born to Maurice and Mary Ann Flynn in Glencullare, Tarbert. He emigrated to the USA in the 1950’s and spent most of his life working on the railways. A proficient Irish speaker from his school days in Ballylongford National School he never lost his grá for the cuplá focail. He always liked to keep in touch with his Irish relations and what was happening in North Kerry. Sympathy of the community to his wife Agnes and family, to his sister Kitty in Mayo, his brothers Fr Mossy in England and Willie in Ballylongford and the extended Flynn and Fitzell family, Meelcon. The death also took place of Danny Hannon, Listowel who died on Sunday 16 January. Requiem Mass took place in St Mary’s Church, Listowel on Wednesday 19 January followed by interment in St Michael’s Cemetery, Listowel. Danny was a great ambassador for Listowel and North Kerry. He was involved in many cultural activities, most notably as a founding member of the Lartigue Players. Returning from England he was involved with his late father, Moss Hannon in the reconstruction and extension to Tarbert National School the contract having been awarded in 1976 to the building firm of M A Hannon & Sons, Listowel. Sympathy to his family and in particular to his first cousin, Michael Lanigan, the Square, Tarbert. The death took place of John Carmody, the Hill, Moyvane who died on 18 January. His Requiem Mass took place in the Church of the Assumption Moyvane on 21 January followed by interment in Murhur Cemetery, Moyvane. Sympathy to his sisters, extended family and to his first cousins, Eileen O’Connell, Doonard, Tarbert and Brendan Carmody, Sallowglen, Tarbert. Sympathy also to Patricia McNamara, Tieraclea Park, Tarbert on the recent death of her nephew Kevin Glover in Pennsylvania, USA. Sadly the news came through of the death of Paddy Regan, Cnocán, Listowel who died suddenly on Thursday last, 20 January. A very fine tradesman he did a lot of work in the Tarbert area, up to and including last Monday 17 January RE-OPENING The dramatic announcement by the Taoiseach that effective from Saturday 22 January a number of restrictions imposed as a result of Covid 19 were being lifted brought a sense of great relief to many particularly in the hospitality industry. It meant that the pre Christmas directive that pubs and restaurants had to close at 8pm was cancelled and that pre-Pandemic closing time would apply. Locally it had been very difficult for the three licensed premises to operate over the past two years. The fact that they were all long established family business houses helped. The Swanky Bar, award winning restaurant and public house with second generation Prendevilles in management, Coolahan’s Bar with the same name over the door since and now very capably managed by Tomás, a great grandson of the original owners. Carmody’s Bar is today managed by Nuala, probably one of the oldest publicans in Kerry, running a very well kept, comfortable and welcoming meeting house. Hopefully we are now entering, le cúnamh Dé, a new safe and Healthy New Year in every sense of the word. TOM PA FUNDRAISER On Saturday last, 22 January, Tom Pa O’Connor, Saleen launched his local Cancer Fundraiser in Tarbert at Brosnan’s Daybreak Shop. Tom Pa who is himself recovering from cancer has set himself a goal to raise €100,000 in funding for research, treatment and hospice care. As well as local followers of greyhound racing present at the launch, there were many others anxious to support the cause. Kerry Motor Works have already sponsored a vehicle to convey patients to and from hospital for treatment. Over the coming week, tickets will be on sale in pubs and business premises with some €25,000 in valuable prizes donated. Please support this worthy cause. JOB VACANCIES There are a few positions available on the local Community Employment Scheme. Tidy Towns Assistants are required in both Tarbert and Ballylongford while Tarbert Bridewell are looking for a Heritage Assistant. For further information contact Jackie Kissane on 086-3266991 or 043824 or email asdeeballycommunityproject@gmail.com KILNAUGHTIN GRAVEYARD COMMITTEE Kilnaughtin Church and Graveyard Committee would like to acknowledge with thanks the help and support they received across the community towards the launch of their new website available at www.kilnaughtin. ie. There is a detailed history of this 6th Century foundation, timeline and headstone listings of those interred there from the Catholic and Anglican communities over the centuries.

LENAMORE ROVERS
North Kerry Senior Division 1 Leagues 2022 Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Group
Sunday 23rd Jan 2022 0 KDL Division 3A Lenamore Rovers B 1 - 1 Ferry Rangers This North Kerry Derby played in superb conditions provided a very entertaining game. Ferry Rangers started quicker and had a number of chances with one shot hitting the post. Lenamore continued to work hard and grew into the game. Both sides would have felt they should have had a penalty either side of half time but referee John Ross gave the benefit of the doubt to the defenders. From a corner kick Bryan Murphy placed the ball beautifully with his weaker foot to the near post giving us the lead. 1 - 0 at half time to Lenamore. In the 2nd half Ferry Rangers continued to create chances and scored deservedly from a direct free kick by Cillian Langan. Denis Kennelly had a fantastic chance to get a winner for Lenamore but his header from a corner skinned the crossbar with 15 mins remaining. A sporting game that finished all equal which was just about fair. Team: Matt Connor, Eamon Stack Mulvihill, Sully, Ciaran Ahern, Kieran Swan, Mikey Nolan, Pa Carmody, John Scannell, Bryan Murphy, Danny Power, Donal Leahy Subs: Jake Kelly, Brandon O Driscoll, Jack Mulvihill, Wayne Hayes, Denis Kennelly, Donal Stack, Paul Murphy MOTM: Matt O Connor.

It got me thinking. If you are anything like me, you don’t need a government directive to “lock you down.” Before l became a bible believing Christian and was born again into the family of the One, True and Living God l was in emotional and spiritual lockdown for many, many, many years. It was hell. The Word of God has a name for this....it’s called a stronghold. Essentially it is when you believe lies as truth and they become so established in your thinking that they affect your attitudes, emotions, and behaviours. These lies are not from God. Proverbs 23:7 puts it like this “As he thinks within himself, so is he.” In other words, you are what you think.
ever have set me free from those “lockdowns” or strongholds. It has taken the love, mercy and power of Jesus Christ the beloved Son of the One, True and Living God to bring healing, peace and joy to my broken soul and spirit. I’m not making light of the lockdowns we have had nor of the restrictions that were placed on us, but there is a freedom that goes far beyond physical freedom. You may be free to travel the globe but if you are locked down emotionally or mentally trapped in wrong thinking THEN you are not free.
This time I ask you this special one, (mention favour). Take it dear heart of Jesus and place it within your heart where your father sees it. Then in his merciful eyes it will become your own favour not mine. Amen. Say this prayer three times for three days and your favour will be granted. Never been known to fail. Must promise publication of prayer. M.K.
