CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while incorporating dóTerra’s powerful essential oils into your daily routine. This week we look at Thyme not only because of the wonderful properties it has but because it’s delicious when used in cooking. I particularly like to use this essential oil when cooking an Irish Beef Stew and this will definitely be on our menu for St Patricks Day as we look forward to celebrating once again with those we love.
LISTOWEL PRESENTATION SECONDARY SCHOOL STANDS WITH UKRAINE
“As the world stands in shock at the upheaval that is arising in Ukraine, we as a school wanted to come together and help the innocent civilians in Ukraine in any way that we could. We felt it was also righteous to hold intentional prayer services in our prayer room. We are very lucky in Presentation Listowel that we have the facility of a prayer room. The prayer room provides students with some peace and tranquillity away from the everyday stresses of school life.” “Our prayer services were held in honour of the courageous Ukrainian arms and the brave Ukrainian civilians. We also took it upon ourselves to set up a donation point in the school social area in which the girls have overwhelmingly and generously donated essential items to. These vital items include blankets, sleeping bags, towels, toiletries, baby food, non-perishable food items and many more items that will be crucial and appreciated by the Ukrainians in this time of desperate need. Our thoughts and prayers are with the heroic nation at this horrifying time.” Clodagh Joy, Student teacher at Presentation Listowel.
For centuries, Thyme has been used across nations and cultures for cooking, incense in holy temples, ancient embalming practices and to ward off nightmares. The main benefits of dóTerra’s Thyme are its stimulating aroma, and its spicy food flavouring. It also provides the skin with cleansing and purifying effects and adding a drop your daily water, tea or food will provide a general wellness throughout the body. This bottle from dóTerrra has replaced my jar of dried thyme and I really enjoy using it. On an emotional level, Thyme empties the soul of negativity, leaving the heart wide open. In this state of openness, individuals begin to feel tolerance and patience for others. As the heart opens more and more, it can receive love and offer forgiveness. Thyme transforms hate and anger into love and forgiveness. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them to your skin with or without carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing them in your homes, classrooms, offices, salons, or places of work / business. The third way to use the oils is internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by putting one drop under the tongue daily. The oils are a natural solution to care for your needs and your family’s health needs. They can support you with many of the following that you may experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. You can contact me for more information on any of the above and I will be happy to assist you in your journey of health and wellbeing with dóTerra’s essential oils. As a dóTerra wellness advocate I know how the oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood. Over the past three years I have supported many people and their families in using dóTerra’s oils and products in counties Kerry, Limerick and Cork. My addition of Caroline’s Fashion Fix on Facebook every Friday night is a must for all ladies to join, where I’ll be bringing you the latest Spring Summer Collection from the fabulous French clothing label Captain Tortue. Catalogues are now available for viewing. EVENT – On Friday 18th March Captain Tortue will be coming to Lovely Listowel with the full clothing collection for spring summer. KINGDOM VETERAN VINTAGE AND CLASSIC CAR CLUB APPOINT ALAN FITZELL AS YOUTH OFFICER
Kingdom Veteran Vintage and Classic Car Club has become the first organisation in Ireland of its kind to appoint a Youth Officer. At the club’s recent annual general meeting Alan Fitzell from Lisselton was appointed to this new role to protect the future of the club. Kingdom Veteran Vintage and Classic Car Club is the biggest car club in Kerry with over 200 members. It was founded in 1979 and continues to grow and expand to this day. The oldest car in the club is a 1922 Peugeot but there is a growing number of owners of modern classics from the 1980s and 1990s on the club’s books too. Like nearly every club in the county, Kingdom Veteran Vintage and Classic Car Club is managed by a group that have been in their positions for many years. Members felt that by appointing a Youth Officer the club would be able to protect its future by encouraging the next generation of classic car enthusiasts to get more involved in activities. Alan Fitzell accepted that role at the club’s AGM in February and last week attended his first club meeting as a committee member. A life-long Ford fan, he owns a 1956 Ford Anglia. “We have a lot of younger members but join and we don’t see them too much afterwards,” he said. “Part of my role is to get these members to attend more shows and runs and support some of the charity events. We also welcome new members.” The full committee elected at last month’s AGM are: President Francie Cantillon; Chair Tony Hehir; Vice-Chair Joe O’Sullivan; Secretary Garrett Foley; Treasurers George Glover and Aine Doyle; Youth Officer Alan Fitzell; Club Merchandise Lukas and Sylwia Warcaba; Webmaster Chris Foley and Richard Bono who is entering his 20th year on the committee. The club is preparing for its annual Ring of Kerry Run which will take place in May – further details including date to be announced in due course.
Pictured: Journalist David Byrne, Brenda Woulfe of Woulfe’s Bookshop, and former Kerry footballer Jimmy Deenihan. David Byrne was recently joined by five-time All-Ireland winner Jimmy Deenihan to sign copies of the new GAA book, ‘Kerry Game of My Life’, at Woulfe’s Bookshop in Listowel. Finuge native Jimmy Deenihan is one of 30 former Kerry footballers to feature in the book, all of who reminisce on a game in the famous green and gold that defined their lives. Speaking about the recent book signing, ‘Kerry Game of My Life’ author David Byrne said it was great to be able to meet the people of Listowel in what is a ‘wonderful, independent, bookstore’. “A huge thanks to Jimmy Deehihan and Brenda Woulfe of Woulfe’s Bookshop for making it possible,” he said. “Jimmy’s chapter in the book is one of 30 fascinating stories that I am privileged to be able to share. It is really exciting to be able to bring people these stories from both on and off the field. Kerry Game of My Life is not only a look back on games gone by, but an exciting journey through the past, what makes these 30 men tick, what got them to that stage of their footballing career, and the many ups and downs of the 30 stars, both on and off the field.” “There are still plenty of copies available in Woulfe’s. From the 1959 All-Ireland final between Kerry and Galway to the All-Ireland Club semi-final between Dr Crokes and Corofin, 30 of the greatest Kerry footballers over the last 60 years look back on the Kingdom games that they will always remember.” The book includes first person testimonials from many of the stars of the 1975 to ‘85 era when Mick O’Dwyer’s brilliant team dominated the game and changed Gaelic football forever - and also teams from The Kingdom that won All-Irelands in the 90s, noughties and, more recently, in 2014 - the last time Kerry were crowd All-Ireland champions.
“THE FLEADH GOES WEST”
After a hugely successful Fleadh in 2007, Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan will return to Newcastle West from 13th – 16th July 2022. Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan brings competitors from all six counties in the province to compete for the honour of representing Munster at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2022 in Mullingar. Limerick CCÉ County Board with support from the branches of Comhaltas all over county Limerick will host the festival in the historic county town of Limerick. Having originally been revealed by Munster CCÉ as host town for the provincial Fleadh in 2020, excitement is starting to build once more in the local community after the 2020 Fleadh had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Following the announcement of reduced public health restrictions on 21st January by Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, a new committee has been formed and is working hard to make all necessary arrangements for the first Munster Fleadh since it was hosted by Ennis in 2019. At the launch at The Red Door Gallery in Newcastle West, Chairperson of the Fleadh, Liam Guiney shared his delight at the return to pre-pandemic cultural events “We are extremely excited to be hosting Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan 2022 in Newcastle West. Having been forced online for the last two years, there is a great appetite to get back to competitions and the buzz that surrounds an event like the Fleadh. Along with it being a huge cultural event for Newcastle West and West Limerick, it will also be a massive boost to the local economy.” The competitions, which form the backbone of the Fleadh, will take place from 13th – 16th July. Wednesday and Thursday will see the hotly contested dancing competitions fought out, while all other competitions will take place across Friday and Saturday. Newcastle West is set to come alive with the sound of music, song and dance in this enormous cultural celebration. To keep up to date with preparations for Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan 2022 please follow the social media updates on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram by searching for ‘Munster Fleadh’ or the hashtag #TheFleadhGoesWest.

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well This week we are going to focus on how important it is for you and your wellbeing to keep yourself accountable to your commitment to feel and look better. There are many areas where accountability plays a big part in your weight loss and wellness journey. So, let’s break them down and ask yourself are you actually ticking all the boxes. It’s you not me... Very often you can blame others for “making” you eat or drink something you actually hadn’t planned on having which can very often be the start of the slippery slope that we are all familiar with. For example you may feel that because you are in the situation we are all in at the moment with restrictions still in place your feelings and emotions could be responsible for your actions to eat mindlessly and yet you could point the finger of blame at someone else. So maybe it’s time to recognise that you need to take the reigns of responsibility into your own hands, as after all it’s only you will carry the implications of your actions around with you let it be in your mind or your body. There will always be occasions when we do want to have that little bit of relaxation to have the treat without the after taste of the guilt. These would be times like St Patricks Day, Mothers Day and Easter also coming up. Blaming others for our actions is an easy way of letting ourselves “ off the hook “ for our own accountability. Your choices are your decisions. Always remember when you point the finger at someone the rest of your fingers are pointing back at YOU. Accountability Accountability is all about keeping records. It is a proven fact when you keep an account of what you eat and drink you are more aware and mindful of your calorie intake. By keeping a track of your calories you are less likely to “forget” the little things that can all add up in the end. Keeping track of your daily foods can be done in different ways, it’s all about finding the way that works for you . Some people may like to keep a track record on their phone while others may prefer to put pen to paper and write it down, Whichever works will work No guessing, No messing !! Being accountable to somebody else with your weight other than yourself is very important also as we do tend to leave ourselves off the hook quite easily at times. By doing this you are making a commitment not alone to yourself but to somebody else also. “It will be a weight off your mind.” So that is another reason why San Rita Wellness works so well for our members as they check in weekly with us either in our “ In Person Meetings “ or our “At Home Service“ Mini Goals Setting yourself a mini goal will keep you mindful and in the loop when you do feel like you may be inclined to throw complete caution to the wind. Having that mini goal in mind will help you to get back on track again so as not to cause too much damage overall Keeping a weekly record of your mini goals can help your motivation and commitment to stick with it and know that it will be worth it. Remember the saying “Slow progress is better than No progress.” You may set yourself a goal by deciding to lose five to seven pounds at a time or maybe seeing a lower number on the scales. It could be an item of clothing that is a little bit too tight at the moment that you would like for it to fit better or maybe you would like to be able to reach for a size down in the clothes rail next time you buy yourself something whether it’s online or when the shops reopen again. Now, picture that in your mind and think how great that would feel.

FIERCE APPETITES
Loving, losing and living to excess in my present and in the writings of the past
By Elizabeth Boyle
Every day a beloved father dies. Every day a lover departs. Every day a woman turns forty. All three happening together brings a moment of reckoning. Medieval historian Elizabeth Boyle made sense of these events the best way she knew how - by immersing herself in the literature that has been her first love and life’s work for over two decades. Fierce Appetites is the exhilarating and deeply humane result. Not only does Elizabeth Boyle write dazzling accounts of ancient stories, familiar and obscure, from Ireland and further afield, but she uses her historical learning to grapple with the raw and urgent questions she faces, questions that have bedevilled people in every age. She writes on grief, addiction, family breakdown, the complexities of motherhood, love and sex, memory, class, education, travel (and staying put) with unflinching honesty, deep compassion and occasional dark humour. Fierce Appetites is captivating and original - as an insight into the mind and heart of a groundbreaking scholar, and as a wise and reassuring account of what it is to be human.

Motivation We are all different and it takes different things to encourage us to be more motivated. For some it can be the number on the scales or the clothes fitting better. For more it could be looking forward to meeting up with family and friends over the Summer and wanting to look and feel our best. By constantly reminding ourselves of whichever it is will help keep the motivation strong. So, remember there is a saying: To wake up with Motivation. Go to bed with Determination For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Wellness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “ In Person Meetings “ “ At Home Service “ or our “ One to One Service “ NB - Our weekly “ In Person Meetings “ take place in Listowel Community Centre every Wednesday and in The Ballybunion Health and Leisure Centre every Thursday . This is the first time since 2019 that people will get a chance to relive the festivities that we were used to before Covid 19. The Country has been gifted a fantastically long week-end from St Patrick’s day on Thursday March 17th until Sunday March 20th. St Patrick’s Day is the National Feast day and a National Holiday, but this year the Country has an additional one-off holiday on Friday 18th March which is given as an acknowledgement of the tough times during the pandemic. LOCAL HISTORY In keeping us all well informed our local young historian Tom Kennedy reminds us that Lislaughtin Friary is a special place for all of us. Saint Lachtain is the Saint associated with the friary as he spread Christianity to the area. The friary was founded by John O’Connor of the Kerry O’Connor clan in 1470 on a sire associated with the Saint and named in his honour. In 1477, Pope Sixtus IV licensed it as a religious house and the friary was completed and its church consecrated in 1478. The Friary was attacked in 1580 by the troops of Queen Elizabeth I under the command of William Pelhams and the three elderly friars who could not flee were slaughtered at the altar. The Franciscans returned back to Lislaughtin in 1629 and remained here until Cromwellian troops caused destruction in 1652. However, the friars provided pastoral care in the area up until 1860. Saint Lachtain is the patron Saint of Ballylongford (and
18
Aghavallin parish). Locals celebrate the feast day of Saint Lachtain every year on the 19th of March. He died on the 19th of March 622 AD. So this year is rather significant 1400 years after his death. The friary is often called an abbey by locals which is incorrect. It is often in the shadow of Saint Patrick’s day nationally as it is only 2 days after it. This year presented a unique chance for a great celebration of our patron Saint of Ballylongford as the 19th falls on a Saturday and it is effectively a four day weekend due to the public holidays on Thursday and Friday due to Saint Patrick’s day. To celebrate the occasion there will be a procession by locals, all are welcome (As Lislaughtin is famous for the processional cross now in the national museum in Dublin) on Saturday the 19th from outside the church gates in Ballylongford village and we will Cross the bridge on our way to the to Lislaughtin friary (2km). It is important to start on the Church side of the bridge to incorporate our fellow Aghavallin parishioners from Asdee. The procession will pass the grotto on the way. All are welcome to join. We should be arriving at the friary at 2:30 p.m approximately. The Bishop of Kerry (Ray Browne) and Franciscan friar will be at Lislaughtin Friary. In what must be the first time in over 150 years that a friar was at Lislaughtin in an ecumenical setting. They will speak and say prayers. Padraig O’ Conchuir (author of many history books) will give a tour/speech about the history of the friary after the rosary and prayers. Dr. Declan Downey (Lecturer in the School of History in UCD) will also be there. Refreshments afterwards at the parish hall circa 4 o’clock. BARDIC FESTIVAL Don’t forget that the Ballydonoghue Bardic Festival is back on track after an absence of two years. The 2022 event will take place from Thursday, March 24th to Sunday, March 27th. DEATHS The death took place of Eileen O’Connell (née Carmod) of Doonard Lower, Tarbert and formerly of Chapel Street. Eileen, who was aged 86 years, died unexpectedly at her home on the evening of Friday 4 March. She reposed at her son Jeremiah’s residence in Chapel Street on Sunday 6 March and large crowds attended her wake. Her older brother Bishop Eddie, aged 88 years flew in from Corpus Christi diocese,Texas and he and her brother-in-law, Fr Philip O’Connell performed the funeral obsequies. Removal took place on Monday 7 March to Shannon Crematorium at 10.30am for Service at 12 noon. Eileen was one of 13 children, 10 boys and 3 girls, born to Michael and Mary Carmody,née Stack. Eileen, was born in Moyvane and attended National School there, In 1952 following severe flooding on the Gale river which impacted severely on farming land, Michael Carmody and his family moved from the family holding in Cuss to Tarmons East, Tarbert. They purchased Tarmons House and lands which had previously been the property of landlord Monkton Creagh, later devolving to the family of Councillor M. J. Nolan in the 1900’s. Eileen was then 16 years of age and the eldest of the three girls. In 1957 she married William (Wim) O’Connell, Tarbert who was Principal Teacher in Tarmons National School which was attended by the younger members of the Carmody family. In 1972, Wim and Eileen purchased the licensed premises (now the Anchor Bar) from Michael Lanigan. While her husband continued in his teaching career, Eileen managed the bar business with her family of four children living on the premises. After the best part of 20 years they sold the premises and moved to Doonard, where they lived out their retirement. Eileen was predeceased by her brothers John, Peter and Finbar. Burial of ashes took place in St Mary’s Cemetery, Tarbert on Thursday 10 March. Sympathy of the community is extended to her husband Wim, sons Jeremiah, Michael and Philip and daughter Mary, to her brothers Michael, Bishop Eddie, Brendan, Maurice, Paschal, Noel and Martin, her sisters Sheila and Sr. Mary and to the extended Carmody and O’Connell families. Sympathy of the community also to Jim O’Connell and family of Friar Street, Youghal and formerly of Kilpadogue, Tarbert on the recent unexpected death of his wife Marietta, née Watkins. Marietta died at Cork University Hospital on Tuesday 1 March and her Requiem Mass and interment took place in Youghal on Friday 4 March. Jim, son of the late Dick and Mary Ellen O’Connell of Kilpadogue, was for many years organiser for SIPTU and Mandate Trade Unions.Beannacht Dé le h-anamacha na marbh go léir agus suaimhneas síoraí dóibh. The parade will start from the Fire Station, after the 11.30am Mass, with groups and individuals allocated their places and will proceed through the village led by St Patrick suitably attired and will terminate at the Bridewell. LISLAUGHTIN 1400 According to local historian, Tom Kennedy, St Lachtain, the patron saint of Ballylongford died on 19 March 622 AD, 1400 years ago, as recorded in the Annals of the Four Masters. To mark the occasion, locals will walk the 2km from the Church gates in Ballylongford at 2pm next Saturday 19 March to Lislaughtin Abbey. At the Abbey, a Franciscan friar from Killarney will conduct a prayer service. Bishop Ray Browne will also attend. Local historians, Padraig O’Concubhair and Dr Declan Downey will talk on the significance of the occasion, the history and architectural features of the Abbey. Following the sacking of the Abbey by Elizabethan and later Cromwellian soldiers the Lislaughtin Abbey Processional Cross was buried by the fleeing monks. The Cross was later found in the townland of Ballymackessy and is now in the National Museum in Dublin. In 1919 the cause for the canonisation of the three friars who were put to death by Elizabethan soldiers in 1580 was being promoted in Rome. The three martyred friars were named as Daniel Hanrahan, Philip O’Shea and Maurice Scanlon. The youngest of the friars was over 70 and one of the three was blind. There are a number of people from Tarbert parish buried in Lislaughtin cemetery and it would be nice to remember them in honouring St Lachtain on his feast day Saturday next, 19 March. The history of Lislaughtin Abbey is well detailed on one of the Shannonside bronzes on the Russell Store yard wall at the lower end of Main Street. ‘(the starlings) ignoring green Lislaughtin where subtle shadows pass through shattered altars, broken walls The blood of martyrs in the grass’ - Brendan Kennelly, Lislaughtin Abbey 1969

Man of the match: Conor Sweeney. Under 14 Girls National Cup (Last 16) - Listowel Celtic 0 2 Shelbourne FC Pat Kennedy Park was the venue last Sunday as we welcomed Shelbourne Football Club to our grounds. A minutes silence was observed before the game as our thoughts were with our midfielder Eliza O’Donnell and her Family on the recent passing of her Grandfather. Playing into a strong wind in the first half, the Girls went a goal down but showed great strength against the gale and a strong Shelbourne side to go into the break just one behind. In the second half, the Girls put the visitors under severe pressure but the bounce of the ball just didn’t go our way. Shelbourne hit us on the break and doubled their lead midway through the half and even though the Girls battled to the final whistle the breakthrough didn’t come. We wish Shelbourne all the best in the quarter finals. Our fantastic Girls lost nothing in defeat today. To make the last 16 of a National competition is some achievement and there is no shame in losing to a side of Shelbourne’s calibre. Your club, your coaches and your families are extremely proud of you all. A Special thanks to all who provided food and helped out in the kitchen on the day. Our visitors were very appreciative of our hospitality. It may be the end of our adventure in this competition but the future is bright for this fantastic group of Girls. Thanks to Tom Sullivan who was the referee on the day. A Massive thanks to all our supporters. Well done to Coaches Dominic and PJ and to all The Girls. Listowel Celtic Under 10’s Boys (White) played Iveragh United last Sunday in a wet and windy Pat Kennedy Park. Despite the conditions there was some great football played by both teams which turned out to be a very competitive cup game. Well done Boys, Parents and Coaches Ger and PJ Our Under 11 Boys (Green and Yellow) Teams were in action last weekend The Green Team were in Kenmare on Saturday and welcomed Iveragh to Pat Kennedy Park last Sunday Our Yellow Team played Castleisland B in Pat Kennedy Park last Sunday. All three games were exciting and we scored some lovely goals. Well done to all Boys who played. Thanks to Parents for continued support. Well done to our coaches Jerry, Derek and PJ. Congratulations to Daryl Dalton who started last Sunday for The Kerry Under 13’s against Limerick County in Charleville in the first round of the Inter League. National Junior Championship Finals Last Sunday in Athlone we had four athletes taking to the boards at the highest level at the Junior age group. We are more than proud to have a new National Champion with ever present Padraic McCarthy winning the Junior WFD with a new PB of 7.76m. Padraic has being thrown well in training in recent weeks and great to see the talent coming through at national level. Congrats Padraic on your continual success. Megan Lynch is another athlete in good form in recent events. Megan produced a great run in the final of the 60m ladies final with a new PB of 7.88 secs and finished sixth overall in the ladies final. Another big progression run by Megan and set up nicely with her age group finals this weekend coming. Sean Mahony had two good runs in the 60m and 200m. Sean ran his best times of the year to date and is great encouragement for the summer season ahead. Rory Lynn completed in the 60m with a new PB and is learning with every outing. This weekend, club athletes compete at their national Finals age group in Athlone indoor stadium. Megan Lynch will look to maintain her good form in the 60m in the u19 age group and will cherish the competitive environment at National level. Mollie oRiordan takes to the longer distance of 800m on Sunday. Mollie coming from the sprint environment has moved up the middle distance and acquitted herself well at Munster and will use all of her speed to succeed at the national stage. BEALE GAA
Beale seniors play Division 4 of the County League again this year and travel to Castlegregory for our first round game on Sunday. Other teams in this division are Tarbert, Cordal, Scartaglin, Duagh, Knocknagoshel, Keel, Fossa, Ardfert, Cromane and Austin Stacks B. Our seniors will be setting out to balance the books when we take on the challenge of Castlegregory in the opening round game of the County League, Division 4, on Sunday. It’s been tit for tat between the teams and so we look forward to a great contest this weekend. When we last met, they were the authors of our demise and we exited the County Junior Club Championship at the quarter final stages last year. In our last County League encounter, we fared no better. We would come to rue our missed opportunities as we came out on the wrong side of the scoreline, by the bare minimum, last July. Not a free-flowing affair, the game didn’t really live up to expectations. We had looked to make amends at that game for the soul destroying defeat the previous October when Castlegregory denied us a place in the final of the County Junior Club Championship, again by just one point. A reformed and re-energised Beale team should have the confidence to get the County League off to a winning start on Sunday. Coming off the back of three consecutive wins in the past few weeks, we should be well up for the challenge and shake off the shackles of our nemesis. We will be especially keen to avenge the results the last times these two met and do redress for the ones that got away. There is very little between the teams. Both played Division 4 last year. Castlegregory ended up third on the table and we were fifth. We look forward to a thrilling encounter on Sunday. Throw in is at 2 o’clock.
We contest Group 3 of the County Junior Club Championship and travel to Tarbert for our first round game. Date to be confirmed. The other two teams in this group are Asdee and Firies. The group stages are played on a league basis of four groups of four teams each. Each team in a group plays each of the other teams. The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarter finals. Stretched for numbers, regrettably we cannot field a minor team again this year. We have joined forces with Ballyduff and contest Division 2B of the County League. In the second round game they had a goal advantage over Ballymacelligott, 3-8 to 2-8. They travel to Spa for a 4 o’clock throw-in on Saturday. Their final round game will be against Emmetts. Any aspiring player wishing to play Gaelic football, contact Beale GAA Club. We are a family-friendly club that welcomes and caters for all – boys and girls aged 5-15 years, minors and senior lads and ladies. Improve your skill, keep fit, make friends and play football! If you are new to the area or new to the game, we have teams for all age groups from under-6 right through to seniors. We are looking for new and experienced players and also welcome coaches, team managers and other volunteers. This week’s Beale Lotto winning numbers were 2,12, 21 and 25. There was no jackpot winner and two Match-3 winners, Noel Rowan and Sheila Gleeson, who each win €50. Next week’s jackpot is €3,350. The draw will take place in The Railway Bar on Sunday at 9 o’clock. Ticket €2 each or 3 for a fiver. Thanks to everyone who supports the Beale Lotto. To be in with a chance of winning our lotto, get your tickets in local shops and pubs. You can also play online by downloading the Clubforce app or simply click the link on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages or log onto https://clubforce.com/clubs/beale-gaa-kerry/. All online entries to be registered by 6.00pm on the day of the draw. Entries after 6.00pm will be entered in the next draw. Congrats to our young, talented musicians who won best overall club in the North Kerry Scór na nÓg final, which took place in Asdee. Not only did Beale GAA Club win best overall club, we also had some individual and group winners on the evening. Solo Singing: 2nd, Audrey Ryan; Instrumential Music: Joint 2n Aoibheann Buckley, Síne Fogarty, Jack O’Connor, Aisling Hennessy and Samantha O’Sullivan; Recitation: 1st, Than Creed. Congratulations to Daniel Hayes and his bride, Nicole Finnicane, who recently tied the knot. Daniel, aka Dano, has worn the green and red down the years, from under-age to junior and senior. Not only a keen footballer, Daniel is also well-known for his prowess on the dance floor and won a Strictly Come Dancing event in recent years. Dano is always ready to give a helping hand for his beloved club when needed. Wishing Daniel and Nicole many years of love, health and happiness together.

MEANING OF LIFE “Prayer? Sure anyone can say a prayer. But I’m afraid this situation needs much more than just prayer. If t’was that simple wouldn’t we all be on our knees?” I must admit that my friend’s words echoed my own on more than one occasion these last weeks as the horrors of the Russian invasion of Ukraine play out before our very eyes. Feelings of sheer helplessness and uselessness have engulfed many of us, as well as anger and doubt. Where is God? Can our prayers make any difference? I looked to the Word of God for help on this huge question. Scripture reminds me again that this is God’s world. The book of Colossians 1:16 says “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers or authorities. All things have been created through Him and for Him.” He is the absolute creator, ruler, controller and sustainer of ALL OF HIS CREATION. And that means that all things happen either because God makes it happen or He allows it to happen. It’s His creation. We can’t change God’s will. BUT incredibly the Creator of the universe, with unending power, unending wisdom, unending goodness and unending love, invites us, foolish, faulty and sinful creatures to come to Him in prayer and ask for HIS will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. He gives us the privilege of including us in His work. That’s astonishing!
And He assures us in His Word that He hears and answers our prayers. Jeremiah 29:12-13 reads “Then you will call on Me(God) and come and pray to Me and l will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” Who else can we trust? We can’t look to human beings for solutions to this catastrophe. Psalm 118:8 says it best “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.” And right now the forces that are coming against the world are more than any government can handle. Right now only God, the Creator can intervene. Therfore in prayer we can ask Him to “Let His kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. “ So the truth is if we were all on our knees in prayer it is the very greatest thing we could do for Ukraine and the world. That’s why we are commanded by God in His Word to pray without ceasing, to not lose heart, to continue steadfastly in prayer, to not worry about anything but pray about everything, to always pray and not faint. I need to pray more especially when l read the following in the book of Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.” If you require any further information, you can call LCF at 087 9529907 Yours sincerely, Bridie (Dillon) Hartney
