CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while incorporating dóTerra’s powerful essential oils into our daily routine. A Restful Night’s Sleep & Feelings of Calm and Relaxation – Sounds Good! So, this week I want to talk about dóTerra’s Clary Sage essential oil and how it is known for its calming abilities to the body. It dates to the Middle Ages and it includes relaxing and soothing properties that can help with the rejuvenation and calming of the skin. It is also a beautiful body balancing essential oil. When Clary Sage is diffused in any one room of your home, it adds to a relaxing environment, and it can be sprayed when mixed with cooled boiled water onto the bed linen & curtains before sleep-time. When Clary Sage is taken internally, by means of adding one drop to a small amount of water and drinking it, it can be a great natural aid to the body to promote a restful night’s sleep. During a menstrual cycle, Clary Sage should be applied to the abdomen area with a little fractionated coconut oil and massaged into this area for a soothing relief. It is very relaxing when added to a warm bath and provides a stress-relieving soak. Clary Sage can be added to your shampoo and hair conditioner to promote healthy hair and scalp and works great with dóTerra’s Rosemary and Lavender essential oils. The Clary Sage plant can grow up to six feet in height and is steam distilled from the flower part of the plant. DóTerra’s Clary Sage oil comes in a 15ml size bottle which contains 285 drops of pure unadulterated essential oil. This means that all the dóTerra essential oils are 100% pure and do not contain any harsh chemicals, substances, or alcohols. This beautiful Clary Sage oil also works on our emotions and can assist individuals in changing their perceptions and gives one courage to see the truth. Its one of the finest oils for the brow chakra and helps open the soul to new possibilities and experiences. I personally love wearing this oil as a perfume, and I apply one to two drops behind my ears. These oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin with or without a carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing a two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And the third way, internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop under the tongue daily.

FRANCISCAN FRIARY CELEBRATIONS AT LISLAUGHTIN BALLYLONGFORD
A significant event was celebrated last Saturday 19th March to mark the death of Saint Lachtain who died on this day 1400 years ago. The Friary was established by John O Connor of the O Connor Kerry in 1470 on a 12 acre site for the Franciscian order of strict Observance. This Friary was self-sufficient with access to the sea near the present day Saleen Pier. A large group in procession, left the Parish Hall and walked to the Friary led by Father Eamonn O Driscoll Franciscians Killarney and Michall Dennehy carrying a frame photo of the Lislaughtin cross. Bishop Ray Browne of Kerry led the event with prayers in the Friary followed by Historians Padraig Ó Concubhair, Dr. Declan Downey and Tom Kennedy, who gave a most interesting account and history of the Friary. Poems related to the friary were recited by various participants. Participants were treated to a feast of fine food in the Parish Hall after the event. SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well We hope all is well with you. The road map has changed in many ways for so many of us now compared to this time last year. We are all out and about more now with places to go and people to see. This can mean different things to each and everyone of us, for some of us it can be a shopping spree, or a social get together or for more it could be attending an event. It really comes down to different speeds at different times on your journey. Your weight loss and wellness journey may go through different phases and speeds at various times also. For example do you remember as a child learning to ride a bike for the first time. It was exciting yet scary and you were probably a bit wobbly, but once you got going it was so easy and you loved it. A little bit like your weight loss and wellness journey on our San Rita Wellness Plan, once you start to see and feel the pounds coming off it’s a fantastic feeling too. But like everything else sticking to the guidelines is key in order to achieve the outcome we want. There are six key areas that we need to be mindful of : Planning, Shopping, Tracking, Cooking, Walking Water 1...Planning Planning in advance is like mapping out a route to give you direction. It could be like planning your meals in advance, Planning out some short term goals with your weight loss, Planning out some time for yourself like a walk in the park. 2...Shopping What we put in our shopping trolley end up on the kitchen table, and what ends up on the table we are more likely to eat. We are easily tempted especially around Easter time when we do go into the supermarket with the wide range chocolate etc available. Make a list of what you really need to buy and think about how it can help you to have the right foods to hand, compared to buying other things that will only set you back on your weight loss journey. 3...Tracking Keep a track of various things such as your food choices, your calorie allowance, your body measurements and how you feel are all key in helping you to progress. We not alone learn from the good choices we make , but we also learn from the not so good choices also. 4... Cooking When lockdown first came into our lives many of us found ourselves cooking and indeed baking more. There are two sides to this however which may have helped or not helped. Trying out new recipes and ideas can add more interest to our meals, as it can sometimes be very easy to keep eating the same kind of foods over and over which can result in boredom and lack of variety 5...Walking Walking can be so beneficial to our overall health and wellbeing for many reasons. Firstly it costs nothing to put on a pair of comfortable shoes. Being outdoors in the fresh air leaves us feeling energised, invigorated and motivated. With the clocks going forward this weekend this gives us an extra hour of brightness in the evenings which we should take advantage of. 6...Water The recommended amount of water we require is between a litre and a half to two litres a day. Very often we can think we are hungry when in fact we could be more thirsty than hungry. Tips to help you drink more water would be to keep it at room temperature or try adding in some no added sugar cordial to your water.

ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH Mass Times: Friday 25th March at 2.00pm the Confirmation Ceremony for the children of Scoil Mhuire de Lourdes. Friday 25th March at 7.30pm. Saturday 26th March at 7.30pm for Kathleen Barrett (née Fuller), Glenoe; Mary Horgan, Ballinageragh; Gus Quilter, Gortinare.
DEATHS The death took place of Sean Guerin, Dooncaha, Tarbert. Sean, who was aged 90 years, died at University Hospital, Limerick on Thursday 17 March, Lá le Pádraig. He had spent the previous few days there having been transferred from Abbot Close Nursing Home, Askeaton where he had been a resident for the past couple of years. He reposed at Lyons Funeral Home, Listowel on Friday and his remains were removed to St Mary’s Church, Tarbert on Saturday 19 March. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Michael Hussey. Prayers of the Faithful were recited by Sr Catherine, his sister-in-law, nephews and nieces. After Mass, his coffin draped in the Tarbert football jersey was removed to Lislaughtin Abbey Cemetery for burial beside his beloved wife Bridget who had predeceased him on 15 November 2020. Sean, was one of 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl, born to James and Ellen Guerin in Dooncaha, Tarbert. Like his brothers, Eric, Paddy and Francie and sister Maura, he attended Tarmons National School. All the boys played football for Tarmons and Tarbert. Sean and Francie, both played on the Tarbert Senior Football team of 1959 which had the unique distinction of playing 22 games and losing only 1 - the Semi-Final of the North Kerry Championship. Brother Paddy went on to play with the Kerry Juniors and New York and Francie played with North Kerry and became Munster Heavyweight Boxing Champion. While the brothers all went on to pursue different career paths, Sean stayed at home on the family farm. He married Bridget Moran from Ballyline, Ballylongford in 1961 and they celebrated 60 years of married life together. Sean had many interests - he bred, reared and sold ponies and horses. Considered a good equine judge, he founded the Kerry Pony Show Society. He also bred and exhibited champion Shorthorn cattle at shows throughout Munster. He became very involved with the Irish Farmers Association and farm politics in the 1970’s campaigning for the election of IFA leader T J Maher to the European Parliament. He saw his role as fighting the cause of the Irish small farmer and over the years was involved in promoting that cause. He became an Auctioneer and valuer and advised farmers on land leasing and farm sales. In later years, sadly old age and infirmity caught up with Sean and his anam cara, Bridget and two years after Bridget took up residence in Oaklands Nursing Home she was joined by Sean. Following the death of Bridget and the closure of Oaklands, Sean was transferred to the Askeaton Nursing Home to live out his final days. Sean was predeceased by his brothers Paddy and Eric. Sympathy of the community is extended to his brother Francie in Middleton, to his sister Maura in England, brotherin-law George, sister-in-law Eileen, sister-in-law Sr Catherine, nephews, nieces, neighbours and friends. Sympathy is also extended to Tom Mackessy and family, London and Tarmons on the death of his wife Theresa, née Shannon formerly of Roscommon, who died on 6 March last. Tom and Theresa had been happily married for 55 years. Funeral arrangements at a later date and burial of ashes will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery, Tarbert. Beannacht Dé le h-anamacha na marbh go léir. UKRAINE RELIEF A special collection for the relief of distress in Ukraine will be held throughout the Diocese of Kerry next weekend of Saturday/Sunday 26/27 March. If you have not already done so you can now use one of the Special Collection envelopes in the Church envelope box. The good news locally is that the Tarbert Ukraine family have settled in with three of the five sisters attending Tarbert Comprehensive School and two sisters attending Tarbert National School.

LÁ LE PÁDRAIG Tarbert went green for Lá le Pádraig and everybody made an effort to mark the Feast Day. Tarbert Development Association and Tarbert Bridewell had very attractive sign boards illustrated in green with shamrocks on display. The Tidy Towns Window also went green with shamrocks and beannacthai na féile signs framed with the National Flag and the Kerry Flag. Mary Coolahan’s window was an fhuinneog is Gaelai ag ceiliúradh ár dteanga, ár cheol agus ár n-oidhreacht. Kerry and Limerick flags anticipate the quest for Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy cups and this year the display included the blue and yellow colours of Ukraine. Helen the Hairdresser’s window was a collection of hats, shamrocks, balloons and green and gold flags. Well done to every body for a lovely display. Beir bua agus beannacht. TRIBUTE NIGHT Tarbert Historical and Heritage Society, after two years in lock-down, resumes its activities with an informal get together at Nuala Carmody’s Bar on Saturday next, 26th March at 8pm. The night will feature a tribute to Ursula Leslie, the first recipient of the Heritage Hero Award presented by the National Heritage Council of Ireland in 2015. Ursula had been nominated by the Development Association and the Historical and Heritage Society. It will be a night of poetry, story telling and recitation with an odd song or two. PARADE Probably because there had not been any parade for the past two years, this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade was bigger and better than ever in terms of participants and on-lookers. The parade left from the Fire Station after the 11.30am Mass led by a suitably attired St Patrick in canonical green. Groups taking part included Under Age teams from the GAA and Soccer Clubs, the Maritime Club with a large replica of Tarbert Lighthouse, the Ladies Gaelic Football Club, Tarbert PTAA , Darkness into Light for Pieta House, The Fairy Trail group, the North Kerry First Responders, the Swanky Bar, Clean Coasts group, the Tarbert Pier Swimmers, Barry O’Sullivan on vintage tractor and the Estuary Rollers. So well done to Tarbert Development Association who organised the event and all who took part. Beir bua.

At the conclusion of the event the following were thanked - local historian Tom Kennedy for organising the event, historians Pádraig O’Concubhair and Dr Declan Downey for very interesting and informative talks on the history, significance and architecture of the Abbey, Mary Kennelly, Brendan’s niece for reading his iconic poem ‘Lislaughtin Abbey’, John O’Shea, caretaker for his on-going care and maintenance of the extensive grounds, also Noreen Kennelly and staff who looked after refreshments at the Parish Hall, all the people who took part in any way to make the day a success. LISTOWEL ATHLETIC CLUB
National Juvenile Championship Finals While the world indoor championships were on show in Belgrade, the best of Irish athletes were on show at the national finals in the Indoor stadium in Athlone. It was great to be in the stadium with spectators and an electric atmosphere which helped each athlete to produce their best performance. On Saturday, Megan Lynch produced a scintillating performance to win a Bronze medal in the girls U19 60m. Megan has being in the sport since U9 and struggled to make any impression at the start of her career. Megan continued her love for the sport and with perseverance and commitment has really kicked on over the past three years to now medal at the national stage. Megan is a true club athlete and great to see her talent coming to the top. Well done Megan and we hope this will drive you on for the upcoming outdoor season. On Sunday, Mollie oRiordan was the club sole representative taking part in the Girls U16 800m. Mollie started her athletic career as a sprinter but this year has moved up to the middle distance. Mollie had a fantastic run taking 3 secs off her Munster time to finish fourth in the semi final just missing out on the final. This was a very promising run considering this was Mollie first time at the national indoor championship. Mollie will gain great experience of this environment and we are very excited for Mollie to keep improving with the upcoming outdoor season. Mollie will be back in 2 week’s time with the U16 relay team. Busy weekend coming up with the U9-11 Munster championship in Nenagh and County roads on Sunday in Castleisland. Our seniors succumbed to a stronger Castlegregory team in the opening round game of the County League, Division 4, on Sunday. We had come out on the wrong side of the score when the teams met in the past few years and we were unable to shake off their shackles again on Sunday. We failed to score for the first thirty minutes and, despite our opponents been reduced to fourteen men, we found it difficult to get the measure of them. We struggled right through the first half and went into the interval 0-7 to 0-2 adrift. We fared no better in the second half and failed to put good moves together. Definitely not our day as we lost by 0-14 to 0-8. Our next game is on April 3rdagainst Tarbert in Páirc de Staic.
