CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while incorporating dóTerra’s powerful essential oils. A natural solution to protect the Immunes System - This week we are discussing dóTerra’s On-Guard essential oil which is a powerful blend that supports a healthy immune function when taken internally in your food and drinks and also when diffused in your home, office, classroom, or work environment. On-Guard protects us against environmental and seasonal threats and can eliminate all bacteria and airborne threats from a room within 12 minutes when diffused in a cold-water diffuser. On-Guard is a natural antioxidant and contains Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary and it smells amazing! It is great for oral hygiene and you can put one drop onto your toothbrush or toothpaste in the mornings. It also soothes cold sores and mouth ulcers. On Guard can be used as a sanitiser by adding a few drops to cooled boiled water and used to spray on to your hands or facemask when you are out and about. A favourite in our house is to soak sliced apples in water with 2/3 drops of On Guard for a healthy immune boosting snack. On Guard retails at €49.50 for a 15ml size bottle and has 285 x drops. It can also be purchased as part of the Family Essentials Kit which retails at €150 which includes another 9 essential oils in 5ml size containing 85 x drops of pure essential oil in each bottle with 101x different uses to support your health and wellbeing. For better savings you can purchase the bigger kit (most popular) which has 3 x times the amount of oil, plus a FREE diffuser for less than twice the price, and this kit is called the Home Essentials Kit. Each of the 10 bottles in this kit is 15ml size and contains 285 x drops of pure essential oil. This kit is great value for families and supports all needs that arise with our younger generation and also supports us parents too with everyday challenges. It costs €286 and you will also get access to my private WhatsApp support group with our Pod of Positivity. On Guard should be diffused at least 5 x times a week in your home, office, classroom, or work environment.

As a wellness advocate for dóTerra I know how the oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood. Over the past three years I have supported many people and their families in using dóTerra’s oils and products such as Life Long Vitality in counties Kerry, Limerick and Cork. DóTerra now have a plant in Blarney Business Park in County Cork which is the first manufacturing facility outside of the United States and serves as dóTerra’s European Headquarters. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin with or without a carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And the third way, internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop under the tongue daily. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. My addition of Caroline’s Fashion Fix on a Friday night is a must for all ladies to join, where I’ll be bringing you the latest Spring Summer Collection 2022 from the fabulous French clothing collection Captain Tortúe in sixes 4 to 24. Catalogues are now available for viewing and can be sent directly to your email or a pdf to your WhatsApp. My next Pop-Up is taking place in The Listowel Arms Hotel this Friday night in the Castle Room from 7pm – 9pm. WELLBEING WEEK IN PRES. LISTOWEL SHINES A LIGHT ON DAFFODIL DAY

The students and staff of Presentation Secondary, Listowel recently raised much needed funds for Daffodil Day 2022. The amount generously raised was an amazing €500, which will go towards supporting cancer patients and their families. It has been great to shine a light on Daffodil Day, which promoted collegiality and community spirit among the whole school community. The activities planned included a staff lunch where staff prepared the food served and students sold Daffodil Day pins and badges etc. Well done and many thanks to all involved and to all who supported this great cause.

Congratulations to Presentation Secondary School, Listowel’s U19 badminton team who competed in the School’s Badminton on Wednesday the 30th of March. The Presentation Listowel team consisting of Deina Vesko, Madison Carter, Ellie Liston, Mary Kearney and Fiona O Connor qualified as provincial champions on the 7th of March and immediately starting training for the final in Gormanston College, Co Meath. They played tremendously, meeting Ulster in the final decider. After an intense set of matches they narrowly missed out on gold, placing 2nd in the competition. We are so proud of their achievement and their dedication to the school team this year.

DUAGH DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP

Some Free training is being organised in the use of a Defibrillator. It is very important that people from the village and community are trained. If you have any questions or would like to avail of this free training please contact Sinead on 087-7787972. CPR/AED training is an important resource in an emergency. Effective bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival. The AGM is on Thursday 28th April at 7:30pm in The Presbytery, Duagh. We really need new members and welcome everyone to come along to the AGM if only to share new ideas with us. Its vital we have defibrillators in the village but need people to come on board. DUAGH GRAVEYARD COMMITTEE Over 20 years ago, the cemetery in Duagh was in a terrible state and it was an embarrassment to the parish. A group of people gathered together to tidy it up. With great support from the community in every way from labour to donations, the graveyard was transformed into a very well kept cemetery with large improvements in footpaths etc. A large number of people have contributed to this work at various stages over the years. In the last three years due to a number of factors including Covid, increasing age of the people involved, other commitments and illness, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain the standard of upkeep at the cemetery. We urgently need new volunteers who will give us some time from now to September. With sufficient help, all that is required is 1-2 hours per fortnight. In the absence of new volunteers, the onus will continue to fall on a dwindling number of people, some of whom are in their 80s. On occasions last year, we had as few as 6 people turning up for cutting. This puts too much of a burden on those people and if the situation continues, we will be looking seriously at ceasing our work at the cemetery. This is not an easy decision to take but failing the presence of new help, it is a necessary one. The choice is up to the public. We have always got great support from the people and we sincerely hope that you will help us on this occasion. The next cutting will be on Thursday evening from 5.30 onwards. Any and all help would be appreciated.

12

BOOK OF THE WEEK

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well We hope you are well. Our San Rita Wellness members often say that it’s hard to stay focused during different times of the year and it is very easy to get sidetracked with different occasions like Easter etc.. Now as we are into a new month, April can be an ideal time to look forward and start afresh and look forward to the Summer ahead. We know it may not feel like it but it is coming and we want you to stop and think about how you want to LOOK and how you want to FEEL then.

in association with

Woulfes Bookshop Listowel’s Only Dedicated Bookshop

COULD or SHOULD Do you need to change gears with how you are doing things at the moment? We want you to think about what Could you do rather than what Should you do. Why do you think we are saying this ? The implications of the word should implies that either “ you don’t want “ to do it or you are doing it just for the “ benefit of someone else “. So therefore it can be guilt inducing . Guilt is not and never will be a great motivator, if anything it could work against you and not for you. On the other hand the word could implies possibilities , it feels positive and it feels like something “ you want to do “ . Language is powerful and telling ourselves “ I can’t do it “ means “ I won’t do it “.On the other hand telling ourselves “ Yes I can do it “ means “ Yes I will do it “ . STOP - START - CONTINUE - CHANGE We want to ask you 4 questions today that we know only YOU have the answers to . Q. What could you STOP doing? For example: Guessing the calories in your food choices, Mindless snacking etc. What do you think the benefit for you would be if if you stopped the above? Q. What could you START doing? For example: Keeping a track of your calories and staying within your allowance etc. What do you think the benefit for you would be if you started the above? How can you make that start? Keep your diary or your journal nearby, Plan your meals in advance, Plan how and when you use you calorie allowance to the best of your advantage. Q. What do you need to CONTINUE doing? For example: Keep up your activity that you enjoy, have the right foods in the house, why not join San Rita Wellness for weekly accountability, support and motivation with like minded people. Our San Rita Wellness weekly meetings are personal, informative, fun and in a group support setting. Q. What could you CHANGE for the better? For example: Limit your alcohol to the weekends, Save your treat allowance for the time you need them most. Change around your foods and try new recipes.

GIVE UNTO OTHERS By Donna Leon

Brunetti is forced to confront the price of loyalty, to his past and in his work, as a seemingly innocent request leads him into troubling waters. What role can or should loyalty play in the life of a police inspector? It’s a question Commissario Guido Brunetti must face and ultimately answer in Give Unto Others, Donna Leon’s splendid 31st installment of her acclaimed Venetian crime series. Brunetti is approached for a favor by Elisabetta Foscarini, a woman he knows casually, but her mother was good to Brunetti’s mother, so he feels obliged to at least look into the matter privately, and not as official police business. Foscarini’s son-in-law, Enrico Fenzo, has alarmed his wife (her daughter) by confessing their family might be in danger because of something he’s involved with. Since Fenzo is an accountant, Brunetti logically suspects the cause of danger is related to the finances of a client. Yet his clients seem benign: an optician, a restaurateur, a charity established by his father-in-law. However, when his friend’s daughter’s place of work is vandalized, Brunetti asks his own favors--that his colleagues Claudia Griffoni, Lorenzo Vianello, and Signorina Elettra Zorzi assist his private investigation, which soon enough turns official as they uncover the dark and Janus-faced nature of a venerable Italian institution. Exploring the wobbly line between the criminal and non-criminal, revealing previously untold elements of Brunetti’s past, Give Unto Others shows that the price of reciprocity can be steep.

A THOUGHT May you begin each day with a smile on your face, warm thoughts in your mind, happiness in your soul and a heart filled with living kindness for all. COISTE NA NÓG U13: Hard luck to our U13 footballers who were beaten by a strong Kilcummin side on Sunday evening last. Next up for this group is Churchill at home next Sunday evening. Come out and cheer them on for their first home game. U15: Our U15s kicked off their season in both hurling and football this week. First up they took on Churchill at home on Wednesday evening. In what was a tightly contested game, both teams had some good passages of play to pull ahead however thanks to goals from Callum Carey and Fionn Houlihan we managed to edge a victory. Score Ballyduff 3 – 8 Churchill 2 – 8. The U15 hurlers travelled to Lixnaw on Friday evening for their first county league match. It wasn’t to be our night with the home side coming out on top on a score of 1 – 12 to 0 – 11. BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS County Senior Leagues: Our Senior Hurling and Football players had mixed luck at the weekend. Our hurling team was first into action on Friday evening under lights at Caherslee and came away with the points after a hard battle with Tralee Parnells. The old saying “goals win matches” proved vital here with goals from Darragh Goulding (2) Chris Whyte (1) and Paul O’Carroll (1) along with points from Aodhan Curley, Tommy O’Grady and Aidan Boyle that saw Ballyduff through on the score line of Ballyduff 4 – 9 Tralee Parnell’s 0 – 7. On Saturday evening our football team made the long journey to Ballinskelligs to take on St Michael’s Foilmore and though we were a point up at halftime, and four up ten minutes into the second half, the exertions of the previous evening and the long journey to the venue took its toll, we battled on, but two late goals put a lopsided look on the scoreboard. Final score St Michael’s Foilmore 3–11 Ballyduff 1–7. These two fixtures were fulfilled without 11 players who are not allowed play due to their involvement with Kerry teams in Under 20 hurling & football and Senior hurling. Well done to everyone who donned the Green and White on both teams particularly the 13 players who played both nights County Hurling League: There were five games played in the Division 1 of the County Hurling League on Friday last with four of them being refereed by Ballyduff men, John and Mike Hennessy, Joe Murphy and John Ross. Well done lads. Kerry Hurling: Kerry minor and under 20 hurling teams are in action this week. On Tuesday the Minors take on Cork and on Wednesday the u20’s are pitted against Tipperary. Both games are in Austin Stacks Park and have throw in times of 7.00pm. Best of luck to both teams and management.

Kilconly were victorious at the final whistle with two points to spare, 3-3 to 2-4, and were crowned champions. FINUGE GAA

SENIORS: Our seniors won out in a resilient display Saturday evening against Lispole. Bright sunshine at O’Sullivan Park in Finuge greeted the teams on Saturday evening, however a brief shower 15 minutes before the game meant a greasy ball and slippery conditions in the opening minutes lead to a lot of turnovers and lose play by both sides. A point each in the early minutes were followed in the sixth minute with a good goal for Lispole by Pól Breathnach. However, Finuge responded immediately from the kickout with a well worked goal from the lively Jason Wallace. A barren spell followed from both teams before Darargh MacKessy kicked Finuge into the lead with a point. Lispole responded three minutes later with a point. At this stage Finuge were kicking a lot of wides despite having the aid of a meaningful breeze. The teams traded a point each before Lispole struck for a second goal in the 28th minute. The Finuge response was a pointed free by goalkeeper Kieran MacKessy to send the game into halftime Finuge 1-04 to Lispole’s 2-03. The second half saw a determined Finuge team make a significant move kicking three points without response to edge them in front. Lispole stemmed the tide with a pointed free while Finuge responded with another two points through Darragh MacKessy and Evan McCarthy. Lispole would only score once more with a pointed free with 12 minutes left to play. The Finuge work rate had upped a number of notches and they saw out the game with two more points to win on the scoreline Finuge 1-11 to Lispole’s 2-05 points. The MacKessy brothers had a big say in this game with goalkeeper Kieran pulling off a number of close range saves and scoring some important points from long range frees while Darragh at the other end was the target for Finuges attacks and kept the scoreboard moving. Back-to-back wins puts them at the top of the league table. Next up for Finuge is a trip to Kilgarvan Saturday evening at 6:30pm. Senior Football County League Division 4 Result: Beale 0-05, Tarbert 0-11. Tarbert secured back-to-back victories in the County League on Saturday evening 2nd April with a commanding win over the home team in Ballybunion. Tarbert were quick out of the blocks and raced into an early lead thanks to a point from Finbarr Carrig and a two converted frees from Gerald O Sullivan. A powerful shot from full forward Danny Stack clipped the top of the cross bar to give the number 14 his first point of the game. Beale responded with scores of their own and mid-way through the first half there was only the minimum between the two sides. A sweet effort from out on the right-hand side from the very effective Mike Heaphy and another point from Carrig meant the teams went in at half time on a score line of Beale 0-04, Tarbert 0-06. On the resumption of play the in form Carrig immediately added another point from play before Danny Stack, who had a superb game throughout, kicked a free kick from the ground from 55 yards out on the left-hand side to push Tarbert into a 4-point lead. After great interplay between the young pair of Jack Sheehan and Darragh Foley, Sheehan was fouled, and Andrew Doherty kicked the resultant free over the bar. Doherty tagged on his 2nd point from play shortly after as Tarbert began to take control in all areas of the field. Finbarr Carrig, who was excellent throughout the game, added the final score from play to see Tarbert home on a score line of Beale 0-05, Tarbert 0-11. This was a fantastic team display by the Tarbert boys that was built on moving the ball quickly, with energy and a terrific work ethic. Pa Carmody was solid in goals throughout the match. The full back line, martialled by Kevin Enright at full back, was commanding throughout with Danny Wren and Michael Carrig never putting a foot wrong. Shane Enright at centre back was dominant and was assisted by Ben Sheehan. Sheehan had a superb game at wing back, repelling attack after attack from Beale and pushing his team forward at every opportunity. The mid field pairing of Shea McDonnell and Mike Heaphy were dynamic, full of energy and pace and provided quick ball to the inside forward line which was a telling part of the way Tarbert played throughout. Jack Sheehan was excellent at wing forward contributing a huge work rate in the middle section of the field and pushing forward whenever possible. Danny Stack at 14 had an immense game in the red and black, winning possession in the full forward line, kicking 2 fantastic points and working so hard for the team when later moved out to centre forward. Finbarr Carrig and Andrew Doherty provided 6 points from the two corner forward positions and the ability of Tarbert to find their inside forwards with quick ball was telling throughout the game. Well done to all on another fantastic result. Team: Pa Carmody, Danny Wren, Kevin Enright, Micheál Carrig, Ben Sheehan, Shane Enright, Gavin Breen, Shea McDonnell, Michael Heaphy (0-01), Jack Sheehan, Gerald O Sullivan (0-02), Darragh Foley, Andrew Donerty (0-02), Danny Stack (0-02), Finbarr Carrig (0-04), Subs who played: Paddy Connell for Darragh Foley, Tadhg Finucane for Ben Sheehan Senior Football County League Division 4 Fixture: Our Seniors play Scartaglin in Scartaglin in round 3 of the County League on Sunday 10th April.
