CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY

A Tralee-based car dealer is celebrating after winning a national award for the fourth time.

Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while incorporating dóTerra’s powerful essential oils. Tummy Upset – Stomach Discomfort – Digestive Problems…I’ve an Oil for that! This week’s I want to focus on dóTerra’s Digest Zen essential oil or otherwise known as ZenGest. A powerful oil friend to all of us and one that may come in very handy over the course of the weekend if you over-indulge on Easter treats! ZenGest is known as the body balancing oil or the tummy tamer blend. I always like to keep a roller bottle pre-blended with some fractionated coconut oil in each of the bathrooms just in case anyone is feeling unwell, queasy or is experiencing butterflies in the tummy due to feelings or thoughts of anxiety. We apply the roller bottle to our wrist points, behind our ears, the back of the neck and over our tummy area. This essential oil relieves constipation, eases bloating, relieves indigestion and is a powerful assistant in the treatment of IBS and Chron’s disease. It may also help to ease / stop diarrhoea and vomiting and relieve symptoms of food poisoning when taken in a small amount of water as directed. ZenGest is infused with Ginger, Fennel, Coriander, Tarragon, Anise, Caraway and Peppermint essential oils which combine to help ease occasional stomach discomfort, maintain a healthy gastrointestinal tract and aid in digestion. ZenGest can be used aromatically, topically, and internally, and for those of us who are prone to car travel sickness it is our number one go to essential oil in diminishing feelings of queasiness and stomach upset. Our number one tip for anyone who experiences digestive discomfort is to add one drop to 4oz of water and drink before meals. Rub some on behind the ears and on the wrist points before long car journeys or carry your roller bottle with you! Rub on to the tops of the big toes to support sinuses. When individuals are fully overwhelmed and over stimulated, they may lose their appetite for food, life, and the physical world in general and may become apathetic about their situation and begin neglecting their body’s basic needs. ZenGest can support the body, the mind and the spirit and give us the ability to receive new information, new experiences, and allows us to be open to new possibilities. ZenGest is one of the top ten essential oils that is included in the Family Essentials Kit for and also the Home Essentials Kit which comes with the Free Petal Diffuser. As a wellness advocate for dóTerra I know how the oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood. Over the past three years I have supported many people and their families in using dóTerra’s oils and products such as Life Long Vitality in counties Kerry, Limerick and Cork. DóTerra now have a plant in Blarney Business Park in County Cork which is the first manufacturing facility outside of the United States and serves as dóTerra’s European Headquarters. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin with or without a carrier oil. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And the third way, internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop under the tongue daily. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. My addition of Caroline’s Fashion Fix on a Friday night is a must for all ladies to join, where I’ll be bringing you the latest Spring Summer Collection 2022 from the fabulous French clothing collection Captain Tortúe in sixes 4 to 24. Catalogues are now available for viewing and can be sent directly to your email or if you are interested in holding a Pop-Up in your own home with friends contact me on the number below. Until next time, I wish you all a Very Happy Easter Caroline X Tel: 087 292 1292 Email: carolinedhorgan@gmail.com

PRESENTATION SECONDARY SCHOOL LISTOWEL CELEBRATES WELLBEING WITH FUN AND COLOUR

Students and staff in Presentation Listowel focused on positive Wellbeing for the final week of the school term. Guided by the six Wellbeing indicators social, emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual and environmental aspects the wellbeing committee organised a wide range of activities and workshops to inform and enable the school community to build life skills and develop a strong sense of connectedness. During the week students were afforded learning opportunities such as mindfulness, mediation workshops, and inputs from Sr Stan and Dr Mark Rowe. A daily ‘Thought for the Day’ was read on the intercom to encourage students to reflect on the core values of the school. Students supported the ‘Hello How are you’ mental health awareness campaign and the Cycle against Suicide Campaign and an Easter egg donation was made to the local St Vincent de Paul Society. The whole school engaged in a lively Zumba class on Tuesday with staff and students performing in the school hall at lunch time. The highlight of the week was a whole school colour dash on Friday afternoon. Staff and students were doused from head to toe in a different coloured powder and then enjoyed a supervised walk. The sense of community, creativity and fun created by the colour dash brought a fitting end to the school term. Principal Katherina Broderick thanked Ms Mary O’Connor (Wellbeing coordinator) and the committee for organising an unforgettable week for everyone. She noted ‘There was something for everyone and that’s important in achieving our aim to build resilient, active and responsible young people who have a positive sense of self. Wellbeing is at the heart of this school and this week confirmed the connectedness that defines Presentation Listowel.’ Staff & students pictured: Desiree Dellandrea, Kaelynn Murphy, Mr Kiely and Chloe McCarthy

ASDEE HANDBALL PLAYER STARS IN MUNSTER DIAMOND FINAL

By Con Dennehy Excitement reached fever pitch at the Boherbue Handball Complex in Cork this week during a pulsating and energy sapping Munster Diamond Masters B Doubles final. In a typical Cork and Kerry clash, the final was an enthralling test of skill and passion with scores at a premium. The Kerry duo of Pat Leahy (Asdee) and Dermot Casey (Ballymacelligott) faced the formable Cork players Tim Joe Healy (Ballydesmond) and John Lyons (Macroom) in one of the most exciting games played in Munster this season. In the opening game Kerry edged out a hard fought win on a 21-19 scoreline thanks to superb play from Leahy. “The second game was equally exciting as all four players traded scores. It was almost impossible to separate the sides with Cork edging past Kerry in the final seconds to win on a 21-19 scoreline. It was an incredible two games of absorbing and highly entertaining handball,” said Jack O’Shea, Kerry Handball Board PRO. There was no time for the vocal gallery to take a breath as all four players lined up for the tie break game and the honour of Munster champion. Similar to the two opening games, the final game was equally tense and exciting. Some great scores from Pat Leahy (Kerry) and Tim Joe Healy (Cork) kept the game on level terms. “This was a tight and hard fought game with just a score between the sides. However Cork just shaded a victory at the end winning on a scoreline of 11-10. Watching the levels of skill and fitness in this game it was hard to believe this category was for players over 65. They were simply superb.”

DUAGH DEFIBRILLATOR

Free training is being organised in the use of a defibrillator. It is very important that people from the village and community are trained. If you have any questions or would like to avail of this free training please contact Sinead on 087-7787972. CPR/AED training is an important resource in an emergency. Effective bystander CPR provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival. The AGM is on Thursday 28th April at 7:30pm in The Presbytery, Duagh. We really need new members and welcome everyone to come along to the AGM if only to share new ideas with us. Hope to see you there!

SAN RITA WELLNESS

Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well Has anyone ever said to you that you look different or that there is something different about you since they last met you. Imagine if everybody was the same, for example looked the same, ate the same food, enjoyed the same music , walked the same way, talked the same and dressed the same, wouldn’t life be very boring. So sometimes change is good when its for the better. So let’s look at things from a different angle: Different Lifestyles... Young mums or dads at home with children, full or part time workers, office or manual workers, people who work away from home and people who work from home, retired people ... No matter which of the above you slot into, these are different types of lifestyles but yet we may all be aiming to achieve the same outcome “Eat Well , Feel Well, Live Well” Different food preferences or requirements… On our San Rita Wellness plan no food is off limits so whether you are vegetarian, vegan, faddy eater, plain eater or gluten intolerant you can still eat healthily and enjoy the foods you love while still feeling in control. Remember you have the freedom to choose your foods your way once it all fits into your calorie allowance. Different exercise needs and choices... Active or inactive, sporty people, people who hate exercise, younger people, older people, again we are all different and move at a different pace. But at the end of the day it is important that we enjoy what we do but we all want the same result which is to feel healthier and fitter. Different ways of losing weight... New to losing weight, seasoned dieters, people who like rules and structure, people who want maximum flexibility, whichever you are, our San Rita Wellness plan will suit you. We know we all lose weight differently and at a different pace but the thing to remember is once it’s working for you “ It’s Working “ Different weight loss challenges... We all face different challenges but you are not alone. A challenge sometimes needs to be challenged, whether that means learning to cook simple dishes, breaking down your weight loss goals , give suggestions to the person preparing your meal, or planning ahead for your upcoming social occasions.. Different expectations... Thinking it will be easy, not believing you can do it, happy to lose weight steadily or want results fast. Again we all have different expectations but we also have to be realistic. Weight loss and Wellness happen over time by being patient with yourself, believing in yourself and understanding that if you were to continue doing the same thing all the time, you will always get the same results and there may never be anything different about you. For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Wellness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “In Person Meetings “ “At Home Service” or our “One to One Service” NB - Our weekly “ In Person Meetings “ take place in Listowel Community Centre every Wednesday and in The Ballybunion Health and Leisure Centre every Thursday. NORA

A Love Story of Nora Barnacle and James Joyce By Nuala O’Connor

When Nora Barnacle, a twenty-year-old from Galway working as a maid at Finn’s Hotel, meets young James Joyce on a summer’s day in Dublin, she is instantly attracted to him, natural and daring in his company. But she cannot yet imagine the extraordinary life they will share together. All Nora knows is she likes her Jim enough to leave behind family and home, in search of a bigger, more exciting life. As their family grows, they ricochet from European city to city, making fast friends amongst the greatest artists and writers of their age as well as their wives, and are brought high and low by Jim’s ferocious ambition. But time and time again, Nora is torn between their intense and unwavering desire for each other and the constant anxiety of living hand-to-mouth, often made worse by Jim’s compulsion for company and attention. So, while Jim writes and drinks his way to literary acclaim, Nora provides unflinching support and inspiration, sometimes at the expense of her own happiness, and especially at that of their children, Giorgio and Lucia. Eventually, together, they achieve some longed-for security and stability, but it is hard-won and imperfect to the end.

“I am Reading”

BISHOP RAY BROWNE VISIT’S PRESENTATION SECONDARY SCHOOL, LISTOWEL On Thursday 7th of April, fifth year students in Presentation Listowel had the fantastic experience of meeting with Bishop Ray Browne. Bishop Ray visited Presentation Secondary School, Listowel as part of the SYNOD listening sessions. Pope Francis has invited us all to contribute to the renewal of the church and to begin the process of synodality, which means moving into the future by listening to all members of the church especially those who have been marginalised. Pope Francis has said it is especially important to listen to the voice of young people and so Bishop Ray joined us to hear our students’ view and their experience of Church. Both staff and students were delighted to welcome Bishop Ray to our school.

On what was a blustery cold evening the boys did their best but were up against a strong side from Churchill. A special mention must go to Sean Barron who broke his collarbone against Kilcummin last Sunday. Get well soon Sean and hopefully it won’t be long before we’re seeing you on the pitch again. U15: A mixed bag this week for our U15s. The U15 footballers travelled to Rathmore on Wednesday night. We played with a strong breeze in the first half and managed to keep a slight lead coming into half time, however it wasn’t enough to sustain the Rathmore attack in the second half. Final score Rathmore 4 – 8 Ballyduff 3 – 7. The U15 hurlers fared better on Friday night when they had a comfortable win over Ballyheigue at home. Finally, congratulations to all our Coiste na nÓg players who are part of the Causeway Comprehensive 2nd Years Boys Basketball team who are through to the All-Ireland Quarter-Finals after a hard-fought victory over Kildare Town CS on Wednesday. The team won in a nail-biting finish with three free throws in the last 10 seconds to win 31-29. Best of luck in the quarter-finals. BALLYDUFF GAA NEWS County Football League: Ballyduff travelled to JP O’Sullivan Park in Killorglin on Sunday last to take on Laune Rangers B, in Division 5, and came away with the points on offer. Ballyduff had the assistance of the strong wind in the first half and led at halftime 1 – 7 to 0 – 3. Ballyduff had a player sent off early in the second half but defended stoutly before giving away a rather soft goal near the end but held out to win by three points 2 – 9 to 1 – 9. Ballyduff players wore black armbands, and a minute’s silence was observed to the memory of Gerald McKenna. Kerry Hurling: Well done to the young men who represented the Club on the County u20 and u17 hurling teams during the week in Austin Stack Park. While defeat was their lot in both games they gave of their best and represented their Club, families and County and I am sure will have brighter days in the Green and Gold. Gerald McKenna R.I.P: It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of our esteemed club Vice-President and President of Kerry GAA, Gerald McKenna, on Saturday morning last. Gerald served the Association at all levels down through the years. Having been very involved at Club level he became Chairman of North Kerry Hurling Board in 1961 where he served for a number of years before becoming the first Public Relations Officer of Kerry County Board. In 1972 he was elected Chairman of the County GAA Board and presided over the start of the great Kerry team of the Seventies. He later became a Trustee of the Association and served on many subcommittees in Croke Park including the Rules Revisions Committee. His opinion was always sought by many who had a query on rules, bye laws etc and his advice was always forthcoming. He will be sadly missed by his family Sons, Padraig and Joseph, Daughters Maura, Ellen and Kathleen, Grandchildren and extended family and the wider GAA Community. May his Soul Rest In Peace.

TARBERT THEATRE PLAYERS There was a full house on Monday 3 April, the final third night of Tarbert Theatre Players stage adaption of Brian Friel’s play ‘Faith Healer’. Jerry O’Connell as the Faith Healer, Frank Hardy opened and closed the performance in a word perfect 50 plus minutes of dialogue. Equally up to the task was Noelle McGibney as his mistress/wife Gracie and Shane Wall as the road manager Teddy. Both exuded great confidence, diction and role comprehension. Shane’s cows must have been puzzled by their new milker with the English cockney accent!. Credit to director Mary Lavery Carrig, never one to run away from a challenge in taking on this production. Outstanding performance from our Boy’s with a well deserved victory and we now look forward to a cup semi final in the near future. Well done to both teams for a very entertaining game enjoyed by the large attendance. Thanks for the parents for traveling and for the continuous support. Coaches Ger , Pj and Darren. Our Under 12 Girls made the long journey to Kenmare last Friday evening to take on Inter Kenmare in the Premier League. Our Girls were aiming to preserve our unbeaten run in the league, having won all of their previous five games. From kick off it was evident that this was going to be a hard battle and any point gained would be hard won. Kenmare started brightly but our defence soaked up the pressure and we slowly played our way into the game. Despite dominating possession our Girls found it difficult to penetrate a stubborn home defence and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. The point gained leaves us needing just one point from our final two games, to clench the title. Well done Girls! A special thanks to all the Parents who made the long journey to support the Girls. BEALE GAA

We’ve opened our account in County League, Division 4. Beale seniors’ trip to Cordal was worthwhile on Saturday evening when we came away with two valuable points in the third round. Goals were the order of the day, and we were indeed unlucky not to get two more in the first half. A re-energised and more focussed team, we dominated during a slick first half which saw us three points ahead at the short whistle, 1-6 to 0-6. A bad mistake in our defence early in the second half ended in a goal to level the game and brought Cordal back into it. However, we controlled the game, despite been reduced to fourteen men on two occasions with a black card and a red card. We added three more goals, one from the penalty spot, and some delightful points. Our backs soaked up the pressure, especially in the closing stages. While our opponents got a rather questionable goal, it only put a minor dent in the overall score line and we came away victorious on a score of 4-12 to 2-13. Beale team: Seán Dee, John Griffin, Shane Joy, Jack O’Sullivan, Fionnán Toomey, Jeremy King, Seamie O’Sullivan, Philly Blake, Diarmuid O’Mahony, Conor Toomey, Robert Stack, Barry O’Neill, Ian Mannix, Neilus Mulvihill and Ger O’Gorman. OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL

Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity (Mention your request here)

“Looks like our government has bottomless pockets these days, throwing billions in all directions but what l’d like to know is this.... how in heaven’s name is all that debt ever going to be repaid?“ Having neither a head nor interest for fiscal matters, stock markets, taxes, borrowings, the IMF, economic slumps and propping up measures l decided to leave the working out of all that serious stuff to my friend!! But it did set me thinking about another debt. I believe that the bible is the Word of God. Therefore l believe that “Because one person (Adam) disobeyed God, many people became sinners.....” Romans 5:19. Again in Romans 3:23 l read that “For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” We are all familiar with that line from the Lords Prayer in Matthew 6:12 where we ask God to “forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” That word debt is used for sin in the bible. This is important. Our sins are debts to a Holy God. They are debts that we can never pay off. No amount of tears, no depths of guilt, no self-inflicted punishment, no amount of repentance or fasting or prayer can pay off our sin debt. God knew that from the beginning of the world that we would never be able to save ourselves. But because He loves you and me God sent His Son Jesus, who never sinned, to die in our place as a substitute for each of us. This perfect sacrifice was acceptable to God as complete payment for all sin, for all people, for all time. Now we read in the second part of Romans 5:19

mentioned at the beginning of this article”... but because One other person (Jesus) obeyed God ,many people will be made right in God’s sight.”. When Jesus was on that cross the second last word He spoke before His death was Tetelestai. I read that this is a Greek word which in English means PAID IN FULL. What was paid in full? My sin debt and yours.....if you accept that. Jesus did it all, our part is to believe it. Ephesians 2:8-9 puts it like this “for by Grace you have been saved, through faith. And this is not your own doing, it is a gift of God, not of our works, lest anyone should boast. “ Romans 6:23 reads “....the free gift of God is eternal life.” John 3:16 reveals what Easter is about “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through Him.” I have accepted this incredible, astounding, astonishing, priceless gift with all my heart because otherwise my sin debt can never be paid off and I am lost for ever.
