CAROLINE’S DÓTERRA ESSENTIAL OILS CAROLINE’S POD OF POSITIVITY Welcome to our weekly column and our Pod of Positivity. It is here you will find little tips, tools and information that help us to maintain a life of health, wellness, love, and gratitude while using DóTerra’s essential oils into our daily routine.
CLOUNMACON GAA 41 CARD GAME FUNDRAISER
On Thursday the 21st of April held their 41 Card Game for local Ukraine families. It was a fantastic success, better than we had anticipated, and we wish to thank everyone who attended the event. We are delighted to announce that the night raised €870. Special thanks to Siobhan Fealey, Nicola Carty, Maria & Darragh Casey for helping with the food on the night. To Cllr Tom Barry and Brian Carty for helping with the donations made and especially to all our fantastic crew of card players who so kindly and generously donated on the night. #Clounmacon #Listowel #WhereStoriesBegin
Gym Bag Essentials! Over the past three years I have been using DóTerras essential oils and have supported many people and their families on their oily journey in counties Kerry, Limerick and Cork. I know how these oils can support the Body, the Mind, and the Mood and this week I want to share some of the oils that may be of benefit to you in your gym bag whether you work out a few times a week or practically live at the gym! Deep Blue Rub – is a topical cream that provides comfort to problem areas for all sports men and women. The essential oils in this blend comfort and cool joints and muscles. Wintergreen, Camphhor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang are just some of the blends which work together to provide a sensation of cooling and warmth, especially after an intense workout. You can apply it to the back of the legs, feet, and back. It can be rubbed on to the fingers, wrists, shoulders and into the neck area after a long workday. Air – a top favourite, this minty invigorating blend has a calming and soothing effect when applied to the body topically. Air is enriched with a combination of oils meant to help cool and enliven the body, providing you with feelings of clear airways. My top tip is to combine a few drops of this oil with Epsom salts in a warm bath for a soothing sensation or add three drops to the shower floor tray. OnGuard Sanitising Mist – We are all know the protecting power of dóTerras OnGuard oil blend and the wonders it does for us in helping our families and homes with environmental threats. The sanitising mist purifies the hands by eliminating 99.9 per cent of bacteria and other germs on the skin through a fine quick drying mist. An essential for all gym bags. All of these oils can be purchased from our Pod separately or as a Kit to support you and your home space / work space. DóTerra now have a plant in Blarney Business Park in County Cork which is the first manufacturing facility outside of the United States and serves as our European Headquarters. DóTerra’s essential oils can be used in three different ways: Topically – applying them on to our skin. Aromatically – by placing two to three drops into a cold-water diffuser and diffusing these oils in our homes, classrooms, offices, salons or places of work and business. And we can take these oils internally – by adding them to your favourite food, waters, or drinks, or simply by taking one drop daily under the tongue. The oils are a natural solution to care for our needs and our family’s health needs and they can support us in many of the following that we experience from time to time, such as: Anxiety Issues, Digestive Support, Sleep Assist, Muscle Care, Stress Buster, Depression, Grief, Energy Boost, Skin Support, Immunity Boost, Allergy Assist and so much more. Feel free to ring me on the number below for more information or to request a sample.
DEMAND FOR CULTIVATE LOANS SOARS AS SECTOR TURNS TO FARMER FRIENDLY FINANCE
Cultivate, the collaborative credit union finance lending platform for farmers, released analysis of their 2021 loan applications. Year-on-year, there has been an increase of 66% in the number of Cultivate loan applications received. The average loan application from farmers in all sectors was up 14% year-on-year to €28,370 and this was mainly used for a number of key on-farm activities including, farm buildings (24%), stocking and working capital (23%) and tractor purchases (18%). This is the first year that farm buildings have featured as the most popular use for Cultivate loans highlighting farmers’ confidence in completing longer term investments. Loan terms increased marginally, which would be prudent as the average loan value also increased. Average loan terms increased from 69 months to just under 71 months (+2%). Speaking on behalf of Listowel Credit Union, Ashley FitzGerald noted, “We have seen demand for Cultivate loans increase across the country and are delighted to see the number of participating credit unions growing alongside the number of loan applications. Our review of 2021 loan applications highlights the ongoing need for this type of flexible finance for farmers as they look to balance the development of their farms alongside the significant rise in input costs that we have seen in the first quarter of 2022.” Beef farmers continue to account for the majority of Cultivate loan applications, driving over two-thirds of the total loan applications in 2021, while dairy farmers accounted for 21%, sheep farmers were 8% and tillage farmers were only 2%. Busiest times for applications May 2021 was the busiest month for loan applications accounting for 14% of total applications, driven by beef farmers. February was the second busiest month for applications last year, driven by applications from dairy farmers accounting for 13% of total dairy applications. August was the quietest month overall for applications.
My addition of Caroline’s Fashion Fix on Facebook is a must for all ladies to join, where I’ll be bringing you the latest Spring Summer Collection 2022 from the fabulous French clothing label Captain Tortue. Sizes available are 4 to 24. I’m delighted to be hosting a Coffee Morning Fundraiser this Friday April 29th at The Kerry Writers Museum in Listowel at 10:30 which I will be making a donation to the COMFORT FOR CHEMO BUDDY INITIVIATIVE. There will be spot prizes and raffles and I look forward to seeing you all in support of a great cause.
Beef and dairy comparison The average loan to a dairy farmer was just over €32,000 in comparison to €27,715 for a beef farmer. The period saw an increased focus by beef farmers applying for farm building projects while dairy farmers prioritised equipment investment projects.
Until next time, I leave with your thought for the week, ‘I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.’
For any farmer wishing to find out more about Cultivate please visit www.listowelcu.ie or call 068 21938.
Dairy farmers were also bigger landowners, owning on average 43 HA of land in comparison to the 30 HA owned on average by beef farmers. The full 2021 Cultivate Review report is available to download at www.listowelcu.ie

FR PAT AHERN WINS KERRY ASSOCIATION IN DUBLIN ARTS AWARD
Fr Pat Ahern has been announced as the most recent recipient of the prestigious Kerry Association in Dublin Arts Award. The award sponsored by Kerry County Council is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the promotion and development of artistic, cultural and literary tradition of his native county both nationally and internationally. A native of Moyvane, Fr Pat was immersed in traditional Irish music from a young age. Having studied for the priesthood, he became a curate at St John’s in Tralee in 1957. He founded the St John’s Gregorian Choir and was given responsibility for liturgical music in the diocese. While in Tralee he produced and directed a number of liturgical pageants and was involved in the Scoraíocht movement in Comhaltas that led, in part, to the establishment of Siamsóirí na Ríochta in 1968. The Siamsóirí pioneered a form of folk theatre that presented Irish folk customs on stage through music, song and dance. The Bishop of Kerry decided to send the young priest to UCC to study a B.Mus degree under Professor Fleischmann, who was a great inspiration to Fr Pat. Graduating with a music degree from UCC in 1962, Fr Pat joined the Catholic Communications Centre in Dublin and studied TV and radio production. He produced a weekly series called “Network” for RTE Radio.
Following the success of Darkness into Light in Ireland and around the world in previous years, we are delighted to host the Darkness into Light walk in our community here in Tarbert for the very first time on Saturday 7th May 2022. The symbolism of commencing in darkness and walking into the light gives the occasion its impact, bringing the community together to support those who have been bereaved by suicides, who have self-harmed or who have experienced suicidal ideation. This event enables us to deliver a potent message of hope to all. The Tarbert Darkness into Light Committee is hosting the event with the support of Kerry Co. Co, An Garda Síochána, and many more local organisations and businesses. In addition the Tarbert Comprehensive & Primary Schools, teachers and students, are playing a major role in the event. At 4.15am, the walk begins at the Tarbert Comprehensive School, continues on to Tarbert Island, returning in the early dawn to the school where some light refreshment await. We are planning for approximately 1500 participants and will asking those who will be driving to the event to use the parking facilities provided. We will be encouraging participants to carpool where possible and expect the event to be finished by 7am. Registrations and donations can be done safely and securely via: https://www.darknessintolight.ie Our pop up information booth, at the Community Centre, will remain open from 10am to 10pm on Friday 6th May to handle any queries or last minute registrations. Our route includes the iconic island road to the Tarbert Ferry Port and back, taking you through that beautiful vista between the majestic Tarbert Bay/ Shannon Estuary and the natural woodlands of the Leslie estate to the most majestic dawn chorus of choir song imaginable - and did I mention the hospitality of the local community thrown in for good measure! The Committee would also like to invite everybody in our area to join with us in putting on a light in your window (a bit like the Christmas Eve tradition) as a sign of your support. Many thanks in advance: Paddy Creedon Chairperson (087 2532011) & Marie Mulvihill Media Liaison (087 4155212) Darkness into Light Committee Members: Pat Kissane, Noreen Denihan, Joe Coolahan, Trish Healy, Brendan Kissane, Mary Holland, Eleanor Sheehan, Liz Bogan and Suzanne Harrison.
Recalled to Kerry in 1973, he was released from parish work to devote himself to his work on folk theatre. His musical and theatrical work in the early years was channelled into the establishment of Siamsa Tíre, the national folk theatre of Ireland. Siamsa initially operated from the old Theatre Royal Cinema in Tralee. In 1974 Teach Siamsa was opened in Finuge and focused on the north Kerry dancing tradition and in 1975 a second centre was opened at Carraig, in the West Kerry Gaeltacht with a focus on the Irish language. Since then Siamsa Tire has gone from strength to strength, culminating in the opening of its new building on the edge of Tralee Town Park in 1991. Fr Pat was artistic director there until 1997. Other remarkable achievements included the first American tour where Siamsa sold out in Broadway in 1976, the many other tours that followed, the performance for the then Pope John Paul II at Limerick in 1979, for the Queen of the Netherlands, for the King and Queen of Sweden and in response to a personal invitation from Bob Hawke, the performance at the Australian Bicentennial celebrations in 1987. ONLY ONE MEMBER FROM NORTH KERRY ON THE SHANNON ESTUARY ECONOMIC TASKFORCE: CLLR MICHAEL FOLEY
Cllr Michael Foley said: ”We must not forget why the Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce was formed in the first place, it’s because of the pressure applied by myself and others with the rejection of the Shannon LGN project in the programme for Government.” Cllr Foley continued: “The Taskforce will assess the strategic strengths and comparative advantages of the Shannon Estuary and scope out potential economic opportunities for the area. The group will produce a report, specifying the actions which can be taken to create jobs and secure investment along the estuary and in its vicinity. It will report by the end of November this year.” Cllr Michael Foley concluded: “Now the most deprived area on the Shannon Estuary and the reason why it was formed in the first place only gets one member. Not taking from the ability of Dr Brendan O’Donnell and I congratulate his appointment, but he will be a lonely voice on the Taskforce, which is dominated by representatives from more advantaged areas. This is a worrying start to the Taskforce.”

SAN RITA WELLNESS
Welcome to San Rita Wellness weekly column…We hope you are safe and well We hope all is well with you again this week. The forecast for this week is a bit mixed, however we want to bring out the sunshine in you. Some things in our lives can be a little bit like the forecast at the moment BUT every cloud has a silver lining. Lets look at your silver lining on your Weight loss and Wellness journey and bring out your inner sunshine. I can see clearly now the rain has gone !! We have all been through the storms with our Weight loss and Wellness. Think back to a time when you were not happy with your weight. How did you look? Did you criticize yourself every time you looked in the mirror? How did you feel? Did you feel tired, bloated, unhealthy and in no way motivated? How was your mood? Were you snappy, quick tempered, moody? Was that the dark cloud for you? You know the answer We all have a different answer to each of these questions. When we are not happy with how we look or how we feel we have to remember that we can make the changes necessary to forecast a more positive outcome. So not everything has to be all gloom and doom. Every cloud has a silver lining and every change you make is a step in the right direction and over time all those changes will paint a different picture. Now take a look at the silver lining and where you are now. What is different now to before? Do you look different? Do you feel different? Has your mood changed? Has your mindset changed? When we focus on the positive changes above we start to see and feel the warmth of the sunshine. Recognising the changes we make and seeing and feeling the benefits can motivate and help us to feel more positive. It’s then that the sun starts shinning from within ourselves. Your future forecast Thinking and looking at the changes you have made over time ask yourself can you continue on with them. What is the forecast looking like for your future wellness ? Sunny and bright!! If you really want the “heatwave” to continue you need to ask yourself the following questions. What would you like to have happen? What needs to happen? Can you? Will you? When you have the answers to all of the above the clouds start to clear and the sun shines through. You will start to notice the changes in how you feel within yourself firstly, then others will start to see them too. Make yourself a priority, your health and wellbeing are very important and must be taken care of. We at San Rita Wellness are always there to support our members on their Weight loss and Wellness journey through the rainy days as well as the sunny days. For extra support and for weekly accountability check us out on Facebook San Rita Wellness or sanritawellness.ie for details of our “ In Person Meetings “ “ At Home Service “ or our “ One to One Service “

LAY PEOPLE TAKING LEADERSHIP ROLES IN THE DIOCESE OF KERRY- The new volunteer Ministry of the Lay Pastoral Leader is being introduced as a response to the changing needs of parish communities. The lay pastoral leaders will work alongside the clergy in pastoral areas. Their role will be to lead, coordinate and support different aspects of parish life. If you are interested in this ministry, for more information, check out www.dioceseofkerry.ie BEREAVEMENT It has been a sad week again in the Community with the passing of one of nature’s most elegant women the late Margaret McEntee (Née Healy) R.I.P. of Tullahinell. Margaret came from a very large family who was born and reared in the North Co. Dublin village of Naul. Like so many others after finishing school she took the emigrant route to England in search of a better life, there she met and fell in love with her future husband the late Hugh R.I.P. After their marriage they came back to Ireland and with Hugh taking up employment at Hanrahan’s Bakery the couple settled down in the local Community. While life in the early 60’s was tough they worked hard and with the arrival of their family they settled and became a huge part of community life in the Asdee/Bally area. Margaret was a great family woman and was always supportive and proud of all their achievements. She was a wonderful neighbour and friend to all her neighbours and friends and loved to socialise occasionally through her involvement with the Asdee active retirement group. Unfortunately, Margaret’s life was dealt a severe blow as she lost her beloved son Paul in 1983 and her beloved husband Hugh in 2009 but with the help and wonderful support of her family she coped and up until recently was blessed with good health. Sadly, Margaret passed on Wednesday 20th April last at Kerry University Hospital. To

her family of son Noel and her daughters Anne and Catriona, her grandchildren, Paul, Eoin, Orlaith, Brian, Aoife, Maebh and Aidan. Her sons-in-law Gerdy and Kieran, and her daughter-in- law, Mary. Her great-grandchildren and her brothers and sisters family relatives, neighbours and friends we extend our dearest sympathies Margaret’s body lay in repose at Lynch’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Ballylongford on last Thursday, 21st of April, with removal at to St. Mary’s Church, Asdee. Requiem mass for Margaret took place on Friday, 22nd April, at 11am. Margaret’s cortege then departed from St Mary’s Church via Tullahinell passing the family home, before arriving at her final resting place in Ahavallen Cemetery where she was laid to rest alongside her loving husband Hugh and their darling son Paul May Her Gentle soul Rest In Peace. DARKNESS INTO LIGHT Darkness Into Light 2022, proudly supported by Electric Ireland, will take place at sunrise on the morning of Saturday May 7th. So, this year, we know that Darkness Into Light will take on many forms and people will come together in different and creative ways to share a sunrise moment and stand in solidarity with people impacted by suicide and self-harm. Here in North Kerry Tarbert has been selected as the official North Kerry centre for this year’s Darkness into light event. The committee is busy making preparations for the event with its inspirational message of HOPE – The Walk on the morning of May 7th will begin at Tarbert Comprehensive School at 4.15 am and proceed to Tarbert Island and return back to Tarbert Comprehensive School to finish. The group is holding a Community Registration day at the Community Centre in Tarbert on this coming Saturday, 9th April from 10 am to 4pm. Come and meet the team members, and find out more about the Darkness into Light Walk and register for the event. Alternatively you can register online on www.darknessintolight.ie IRISH GRAND NATIONAL Another fantastic achievement was accomplished on Easter Monday last in which there was a very strong Bally connection. As Dermot McLoughlin the Co. Meath Horse Trainer became the first trainer in almost half a century to win the Boylesports Irish Grand National back-to-back after Lord Lariat won the top prize coming in at a staggering 40-1return. However, while the trainer made history the winning Jockey also made history as he has very strong Bally connections as Jockey Paddy O’Hanlon guided Lord Lariat to a four and three-quarter length victory over Frontal Assault. The 23 year-old jockey, originally from Glasnevin in Dublin, is the proud son of Martin Hanlon and nephew of Pat, Con, Tom, Eithne and Angela formerly of Quay Street. The jockey first started riding out at McLoughlin’s yard when he was 15 years of age and has returned to riding out there a couple of mornings a week, since his return from England where he concentrated on flat racing but had no luck. He came back and rode a couple of winners for McLoughlin and as they say the rest is history. Paddy has been surrounded by horses his entire life as his father Martin bred horses and had a couple in training with horse trainer Tom McCourt. As a child, he was constantly on the road with his father going to the races or visiting trainer’s yards or going to Goffs. Well done and sincere congratulations to Paddy and his family and hoping that this major achievement will be the start of bigger and better achievements. MOYA Ballybunion will host its Moya Festival this coming Bank Holiday Weekend On Sunday May 1st is Family Fun Day and there will be a wide variety of Market Stalls, Games, Animals, Bouncy Castles, Music and something for everyone. The action gets under way at 11am at the Castle Green (Beside playground and McMunns field. A Great day is promised so do not miss it. The Senior team won well in Carlow inthe Joe McDonagh Cup with Podge and Mikey Boyle, Eoin Ross and Daniel O’Carroll, who came on as a sub, being the Ballyduff players on the team while Podge Boyle was “Man of the Match” scoring 1–11. Next up for Kerry is Meath in Austin Stack Park on this Saturday at 1.00pm. Kerry minor and Under 20’s both suffered defeat against Limerick and Waterford respectively. Luke Rochford, Luke Kennelly, Killian Boyle, Jack Enright and Aaron White were on the minor team. Kyle O’Connor, Adam Segal, Dylan Moriarty, Kieran O’Carroll, Aidan O’Connor, Aodhan Curley, Darragh Quinlan and JP O’Carroll were on the Under 20 team. Minor Football: Our minor football team travelled to Castleisland on Thursday evening last to contest the Division 2 Keane’s sponsored County Minor Football League but came up against a very good Rathmore team. Ballyduff had the assistance of a strong breeze in the first half but didn’t make enough use of the elements but they still battled to the end. Some of the players had played for Kerry minor hurling team on Tuesday and more under 15 football the previous night such are the problems facing dual Clubs. Nevertheless it was a great achievement to make the final of Division 2 Well done to the team and management. Senior hurlers: Our Senior hurlers travelled to Kilmoyley on Friday evening last in The Credit Union Sponsored County Hurling League. Fielding a youthful team including 9 under 21 players Ballyduff put in a terrific performance despite playing for forty five minutes with only 14 players and came away with a handsome victory 0–18 to 1–13. Next fixture is on this Friday at home to Ballyheigue at 7.00pm. Please come along and support. Senior Football: Glenflesk were visitors to Ballyduff on Sunday for Round 4 of the Credit Union sponsored County Senior Football League. The visitors had the assistance of a strong wind in the first half and led by a point at halftime. Ballyduff set about their task early in the second half but suffered setbacks in the loss of first Michael Slattery and later on Jack O’Sullivan to injury but battled on with Phillip Lucid nailing the equaliser with the last attack of the game. But alas no the referee thought that Glenflesk had won by 1–13 to 1-11 when everyone else in the ground thought it was a draw 1–12 apiece. Even the Glenflesk team and supporters sportingly agreed it was a draw. Who would ever be a Team Manager!!!!. LADY’S WALK Lady’s Walk continued their recent good form when they played Ballyheigue in the first round of the County League. In an entertaining match the “Walkers” led 0 – 7 to 0 – 5 at half time. Ballyheigue had a good start to the second half, but our boys battled hard and ran out 4 point winners on a scoreline of Lady’s Walk 0 - 16 Ballyheigue B 0 – 12. Lady’s Walk play Crotta in Dromakee next Wednesday night in Round 2 of the County League.

TOM PA FUNDRAISER Well done to Tom Pa O’Connor, Saleen, his family, supporters and friends in raising over €125,000 for Cancer Care Services. Kerry Hospice Foundation, Cork University Hospital and Milford Hospice Care Centre in Limerick all have benefitted from the fund-raising. This is testimony to the esteem in which Tom and his family are held by the greyhound fraternity. Over recent months Tom has fought his own personal battle with cancer and on behalf of the community we wish him good health and happiness into the future. Go neirí go geal leis í gcónaí. TIDY TARBERT TOGETHER Well done to everybody who took part in the KWD County Clean-Up which was organised by the Clean Coasts Group and Tarbert Tidy Towns. 120 bags of rubbish of all descriptions was collected on the roads around the parish over a three week period by local volunteers. There is an old Chinese proverb which states that if everybody cleans outside his or her own door we will all have a clean street and road. We owe it to ourselves, future generations and visitors to keep the parish looking clean, tidy and welcoming. Please remember that the street bins are for minor items only and not for disposal of household rubbish. Ní neart go chur le chéile.

Our seniors had the upperhand on Scartaglin on Saturday evening in the County League, Division 4. We got off to a dream start with an early goal. Our opponents found scores hard to come by and we were ahead by 1-5 to a point at the short whistle. They came back at us on the changeover with two unanswered points. It was a tough first fifteen minutes and our lads responded well to the challenge. We picked off some great scores and the final score read, Beale 3-8, Scartaglin 0-6. Our next two games are in Ballybunion. We host Duagh on Saturday evening at 7 o’clock. In mid-May, we welcome Knocknagoshel to Páirc de Staic. LISTOWEL ATHLETIC CLUB
Kerry T&F Championships The 2022 outdoor season kicked off in sunny but windy conditions made it difficult down the home straight and didn’t help to produce good times on the track in the Kerry outdoor championships in An Riocht. The club had one of its biggest numbers at this age for many years which is a great sign of the commitment from these athletes Our throw group did really well with Padraic McCarthy winning 3 silver medal and 3 PBs in the Discus, Shot Putt and WFD. Aoibhinn Harte competing in her first seniors has a memorable day with Bronze in the Shot and Silver in the WFD. Our Sprint group had a busy day at senior level. Megan Lynch won Silver in the 200m and Bronze in the 100m. Sinead Hunt won Bronze in the 200m, great to have Sinead back on the track again. Rebecca Falvey newly with the club had a very busy day with Gold in the Long Jump and Gold in the 400m and won Silver in the 100m. The three girls along with Rachel Neylon, who ran an excellent first leg set the team up for a massive win in the 4x100m Relay in a time of 50 secs.
28
Our male sprinters were equally as busy, with Four athletes reaching the 100m final. Louis oConnell, Sean Mahony, Kevin Lynch and Rory Lynn all reached the 100m final. Rory who joined the club last year won Bronze just pipped Sean on the line. This was a great win for Rory in a tight race. Brendan oLeary finished fourth in the 400m with a massive PB of 1.5 secs in tough conditions. The four boys joined up to win Silver in the 4x100m in a great race. Donal Leahy ran the 3K in the Masters and won his age category.
SENIORS; Top of the table Finuge welcomed Waterville to O’Sullivan Park on a bright sunny day. Waterville won the toss and elected to play against a significant breeze and opened the liveliest. Both sides traded points and in a big blow, Finuge lost fullback Jeremy McKenna to injury very early on. Waterville were dangerous up front and their play yielded a goal on 14 minutes from Barry O’Dwyer. Two more points were quickly added, however Finuge struck back with a goal from a penalty. The initial kick by Johnny Buckley was saved but he sharply followed up and hit the net with the rebound. A lot of direct, route one ball was being kicked into Pat Corridan and this was yielding scores from play and frees for Finuge. The home team was also now on top in midfield but given the aid of the breeze you would expect should have been ahead at halftime. The teams went into the break level on the scoreline 1-05 each. The first significant event of the second half was a black card for Waterville and Finuge took full advantage by hitting the next three points within the first 10 minutes. It took Waterville some time to get going and were not helping themselves by picking up a second black card but they played their way back into it picking off points and were a point up with 5 minutes to go. Once in front they maintained the momentum but the game hung in the balance into injury time when Waterville first hit a point and then a goal to seal the victory. Both teams will have rued missed chances but the visitors were certainly very happy facing into the long trip home. This win gets Waterville away from the bottom end of the table. While Finuge remain joint top of the table on points, they will be regretting not taking something away from this game. Next up for Finuge is an away trip to St Michaels-Foilmore.
The U15s were in action last Wednesday with a home game against Fossa. The lads came away with the win on the scoreline Finuge 6-13 to Fossa’s 6-07. They are in second spot in the league standings with daylight between them and the chasing pack - however, there are a number of back games to the played yet! Next up is a home game to Dromid/Waterville this Wednesday the 27th of April which is the last game in this phase. Our U13s were back in action this week with an away game to Northern Gaels. The boys went into this one with a 100% record so far in the county league and on top of division 4. After a tight opening half, the game opened up and Finuge ran out winners on the scoreline 4-14 to 0-06. With only one game left, away to Kenmare, Finuge remain top of the table. U11s; A road trip was in order this week as the team travelled west to play An Ghaeltacht. Both sides fielded two teams and some great football was played by everybody. Next up is a set of home games to Ardfert this Thursday. U9s; The U9 gang are back in action this week when the travel away to Ballylongford/Asdee in their next set of Go Games. U7s; Training continues on Wednesday evenings. CLUB FUNDRAISER: Important notice - Finuge GAA have decided to extend the draw date for the car raffle fundraiser. Best of luck to players and coaches. Minor County League Final Result: Tarbert U17s were victorious in the Division 6 Co. League Final played in Keel on Bank Holiday Monday 18th April. In a very competitive game, played in terrible weather conditions, both teams gave their all and penalties were required to separate the teams at the end. As the ball was thrown in a hail shower started that persisted for most of the first half. Tarbert were on top in the early stages and went 4 points to 1 ahead to the delight of the Tarbert supporters. When Skellig/Valentia stuck for a goal, Tarbert responded immediately with a goal of their own from Caolam Moriarty. In the remainder of the 1st half Tarbert only scored one more point, while Skellig/Valentia tagged on 3 more to leave the half time score Tarbert 1-05 Skellig/Valentia 1-04. In the second half with an unpredictable wind, Tarbert struggled to impose themselves in the game and Skellig/Valentia were dominant for most of the second half. Going into the final minutes of the game Skellig/Valentia were 3 points ahead but the Tarbert lads never gave up and after an incisive run into the heart of the Skellig/Valentia defence from David Mulvihill, Evan Collins finished the ball to the net to leave the teams level on a scoreline of 2-06 to 1-09. Extra time followed and the teams were again level at half time of extra time with the score at 2-09 to 1-12. n the second half of extra time Skellig/ Valentia went 2 points up when Paudie Finucane responded with a goal which put Tarbert a point in front coming into the final minutes of extra time. Skellig/Valentia scored the final point of extra time and the game ended level with the score at 3-09 to 1-15. As the final required a “result on the day” penalties ensued. Aaron White was in in goals for the penalties and had already made some very important saves in normal time and extra time which kept Tarbert in the game. David Mulvihill scored the first penalty for Tarbert and when Skellig/Valentia missed their first penalty Tarbert had the advantage. Both teams scored their next three penalties with Brendan O’Leary, Adam Enright and Shaun Wren converting for Tarbert and when Caolam Moriarty scored his teams’ final penalty, Tarbert were confirmed as victors and Division 6 County League champions. This was a game when the team managed to dig out a victory which seemed very unlikely during the second half, but they are a very resilient bunch and kept working for each other and stayed in the contest when they could have capitulated. Both teams deserve great credit for such an exciting game in challenging conditions but the character of this Tarbert team was tested and again they were not found wanting. These young men are a credit to themselves, their families, their team and their club and will grace the fields of Kerry in the Red and Black for many years to come. Team: Aaron White, Michael Coolahan, Michéal Flaherty (Captain), Shane Stack, Conor Egan (0-01), Brendan O’Leary, Thomas Kiely, Shaun Wren(0-02), David Mulvihill, Dara Heaphy, Paudie Finucane (1-01), Lee Mulvihill, Caolam Moriarty (1-03), John Coolahan (0-01), Gavin O’Connor, Evan Collins (1-00), Adam Enright (0-01). Senior Football County League Division 4 Result: Tarbert 2-09, Knocknagoshel 2-11. Our seniors suffered a two point loss at home to Knocknagoshel in the County League on Saturday evening 23rd April. Knocknagoshel were quickest into their stride and had registered two points from frees in the 3rd and 4th minute of the first half. A miscommunication in the Tarbert defence allowed the Knocknagoshel corner forward to intercept a Tarbert goal kick and he quickly slipped the ball to the on rushing Knocknagoshel no 11 who dispatched the ball to the Tarbert net to leave the away side ahead 1-02 to 0-00 after 5 minutes of play. Tarbert were rattled at this point and three more points from the away side, 2 from frees and 1 from play, meant it was looking very ominous for the home side after 17 minutes of the first half with the score Tarbert 0-00, Knocknagoshel 1-05. However, Tarbert were soon to kick into gear and 3 rapid points from frees from Andrew Doherty between the 20th and 24th minute brought the home side back into the game. Then came the break Tarbert were looking for. After some good approach play Tarbert midfielder Michael Heaphy sent in a high ball to the square that eluded the Knocknagoshel goalkeeper and went into the net. Game on, Tarbert 1-03, Knocknagoshel 1-05. A beauty of a point from
Jack Sheehan swept over from his left boot from out on the right hand side shortly after meant that the teams went in at half time with the minimum between them, Tarbert 1-04, Knocknagoshel 1-05. Knock added to their lead early in the first half through a free in the 4th minute and Doherty responded well for Tarbert with a point from a free shortly afterwards. Then Tarbert took the lead for the first time in the game when Michael Heaphy stuck his and Tarbert’s second goal of the game in the 9th minute of the second half. The away side were not to lie down and kicked the next 4 points, 2 frees and 2 from play, to leave the scores Tarbert 2-05, Knocknagoshel 1-10 after 20 minutes of the second half. Doherty was on fine form from placed balls all evening, added another from a free and 2 more from play for the home team to leave Tarbert ahead by 1 point after 28th minutes of play in the second half. In the 31st minute Knocknagoshel were awarded a free in front of the posts when most in attendance felt the Tarbert defence had not committed an offence. This ball was placed over the bar and the teams were level again. There was time for another kickout and Tarbert went on the hunt for the winner. Killian Langan, who was returning from injury and introduced late on the second half, took the ball on the 40m line rounded his man and slipped the ball over the bar for what many thought was the winner in the 33rd minute. However, this was not the case as the game was allowed to play on. Tarbert’s defence was packed and they repelled attack after attack from the away side. However, in the 6th minute of injury time the away side were awarded a penalty to the dismay of the home side and supporters. Knocknagoshel dispatched the ball the Tarbert net and the game was over. Tarbert lost by 2 points. Team: 1. Pa Carmody, 2. Micheál Carrig, 3. Kevin Enright, 4. Daniel O Connor, 5. Gavin Breen, 6. Shane Enright, 7. Ben Sheehan, 8. Michael Heaphy (2-00), 9. Danny Wren, 10. Thank you for your support. Result: Asdee 1-15 Kilgarvan 1-8, Asdee recorded an excellent 7-point win in perfect conditions in Jack Walsh Park. The home team produced some brilliant football throughout, particularly in the first half. Darragh Keane opened the scoring with a lovely point from play, quickly followed by a fine point, from Con Carmody up from corner back. Darragh extended Asdee’s lead with a free before Kilgarvan replied with a couple of points of their own. A great turnover in the midfield by Eoin Kennedy setup a lovely Darragh Keane point from the left. Kilgarvan got their first point from play before Owen Tydings added a long-range point. Paul O’Carroll scored a fine free, followed by 2 Darragh Keane points after some excellent team moves. Kilgarvan got their fourth point to leave 4 points in it. Then a big moment in the game came as a beautiful cross field pass by Paul O’Carroll found Eoin Kennedy running from deep, he cut inside and let fly with a rocket into the top corner from outside the box. Darragh Keane added a free before kicking a beauty for the final point of the half after Asdee had held possession expertly for a number of minutes. This saw the half time score Asdee 1-10 Kilgarvan 0-4. The second half saw Kilgarvan start strongly with 2 points from play before Stephen Lynch knocked over a lovely point. Darragh Keane then added a free shortly after, and finished off another fine move a few minutes later. Kilgarvan tried their best to get back into the game and added another point before a lovely Gearoid Fennessy goal narrowed the margin. Asdee defended valiantly and stood firm with some excellent turnovers by Martin Collins, Owen Tydings, and Eoin Kennedy. Darragh Keane then kicked a beauty with the outside of the boot to steady the ship once again. We also saw some fantastic high fielding from Jack Keane during the half. Asdee held possession excellently as time ran down, finishing with a mighty John Doran point from the side-line. Tadgh Murphy, who refereed the game very fairly, blew the final whistle to see Asdee win by 7 points. Great credit to all the players who produced some excellent football to record their first county league win of the year. OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine, splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God; Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succour me in my necessity (Mention your request here)
MEANING OF LIFE “She was gorgeous, her hair was shoulder length and beautifully styled, her smile was gentle, her skin was clear, her eyes so kind ,her teeth were white and perfect, she was stunning ...BUT...listen to this.... you won’t believeit ..she’s a robot! Artificial intelligence they call it!!” The conversation stemmed from a TV program which portrayed the very real role of artificial intelligence as a key component in the future of health care and society generally. A.I. is the ability of a computer or a robot controlled by a computer to do tasks that are usually done by humans. It set me thinking. Technology is undoubtedly amazing. But where have all the humans gone????? Seriously though, yes there are days when l wish I had a Duracell battery instead of a heart that feels hurt and sorrow when we observe all the terrible events going on all over the world, but, overall, humans are great. For starters, we are made by the One, True and Living God. Not only that but we are made IN HIS IMAGE ! That is mind blowing! In the book of Genesis chapter 1 verse 26 l read “Then God said ‘Let us make man in Our Image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air and over all the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” And again in Paul the Apostle’s letter to the Colossians we read “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.”
Add to that the fact that our Father in Heaven thinks we are worth loving! How do l know that? The entire bible, the Word of God from cover to cover is the true story of God’s love for humanity. Just look at John 3:16; “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” God gave the ultimate gift of His Beloved Son. Why? To gain our love. Surely that speaks volumes. Here is another scripture in Isaiah 54:10 that tells me about God’s unfailing love for us; “For the mountains may be removed and the hills may be shaken, but My loving kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord who has mercy on you.” Just read the bible and check it out for yourself. Imagine what a fantastic place the world would be if humans loved each other and lived the way God wants everyone to live. It would be so lovely. God’s love for us makes it possible for us to be better people and his love enables us to love others. He says it in 1John 4:7-8 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God: and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” Sadly He also reminds us that “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” We can choose.
